I've never played here before but golfmoose gave me a great deal for a SAT at 1PM for $50 - 2 players with cart, I took a chance and drove from Fremont. iPhone used a very long and slow direction to this hidden place, lots of local roads instead of 101 to Gilroy. We got there just in time although we left hour before. Anyhow, it was a hot SAT but nice with the golf cart, I wouldn't recommend walking on this course, quite hilly indeed, on a hot day it's a no no. I know giving 5 stars is not correct, but I liked the golf course layout and the price is quite attractive. I'm sure if it has the whole 18 holes instead of 11 holes, it would charge much more. Some of the fairways are spotty because lack of grass, but the grass parts are very nice and great IMO. Hit the fairways and you're ok. The green grass are thick so it's extremely slow, the speed is not correct, although many greens are slopped but they won't roll as they should so putt harder. The sands are soft and perfect, I only got in a bunker once so can't tell about others. So, we played first 9 holes with white, then came back 10 with black, when it went to 16 from the same T as 7 then it split to the left fairway to a new hole 16 which was nice and up hill as most of the holes on this course. Then the 17th holes T using the same green as #8 is beautiful. We love these 2 holes, #8 and #17, people can drive to the green on the 17, I don't drive long but I was 100 yard to the green. If you don't hit straight, then you may find the hills and rocks not friendly, the fairways green are great IMHO. Beginners may find this golf course challenging, but if you use the soft fairways as practice then it's great, don't score, just play. The greens are slow so easier to putt NOT to go all over the place. I think the golf course is being renovated, for $25 a game with cart, I would come back and can't wait to see when it's totally renovated. It's further than Coyote, but less crowded. The round was 4hr and 15 minutes on a SAT was quite good unlike many other golf courses. Look at the pictures I took and the layout of the holes to have some ideas of the layout, fairways and greens. read more

A little ridiculous that I made the drive to Gilroy all to be denied a golf cart at 12 noon because of a Men's club that starts at 5pm. FIVE! A whole five hours before. At least have a sign up or something that says "walking course only" .. Last week, I came at the same exact time and was given TWO carts. Fun little muni. Easy getting around, takes less than two hours without holdups for 9 holes. Only two minor issues. First is that they need to work on the drainage in the actual hole itself, picking the ball out of water that has who knows what in it doesn't feel great. Second is that the fourth green has had some abuse and needs to be maintained a little better, especially since no one seems to fix their marks. read more

Worst golf experience ever! There is a reason why it's so cheap. Grass was so bad, choppy, holes, weeds, and super muddy. Got to hole 8 and then the cart died, just died. Called the office and no one answered, left a msg then packed up the clubs and belongings and carried our stuff up and over 17/18, through the field back to the parking lot. Paid for 18 and got a cart for free, so didn't bring our push carts. Went to tell the guy inside, he said "oh" and it made me so annoyed that we left. So, in the end, it was a terrible deal. Paid for 2 people to play 18 with a cart and left after starting the 8th hole. Customer service doesn't exist here. Not even a "I'm sorry, can I get you another golf cart?" Nope. Just "oh". Interesting little, longish course stuck up in the hills. We have something like this near where I live and find that we don't use it as much as you'd think being so close. The greens are in very nice shape, the fairways not so much - but then it is a wet winter/spring so understandable. Just not a lot of character. If I lived nearby, I think I'd Use the driving range anyway. read more

I used to like this course, but with the the so called upgrade , the new three par is a joke , it always screws up my GPS . I guess the course can't figure out how to add the new hole in as part of the course. I liked having the old # 7 was better on the first nine , it's a monster and better to deal with when you're fresher instead of at the end of the 18. It's just not worth the price ! read more

This has to be the worst layout of any golf course in California, maybe the entire country? Only 11 holes, so people on front and back nine trying to play to the same greens from different tee locations. What a shitshow... Do NOT play here!! Update- after reply from Don. The layout obviously sucks, but I was aware of that. Our issue was that we had group of tee times reserved, but you booked a tournament in before us and bumped us back by an hour, then we had to deal with the tournament tee time sums on the "shared" holes. We would have canceled if we knew of the tournament, but didn't find out we were bumped until we showed up. Just turn it into a nine hole course. read more

Set your expectations appropriately. This course is not trying to be like its neighbor course down the road, Eagle Ridge. I dont understand all of the low reviews this place has received. This is bargain golf, period. 4 Stars for exactly what its is, affordable golf for all ages. This is Gilroys best option for a quick round, or driving/putting practice. I am a huge fan of this little public course. Only nine holes but only $10! Twilight rate is only $5. They advertise affordability, and that is what you receive. The course is not that bad, but the people that played there (at least when I went) were rude, hit balls right behind you...and at least 2 other groups of players were complete asses! They also added grass to the practice range, I also have noticed a cart girl selling drinks which is always good. WOW! What an amazing course. No hole is normal on this course but so much fun! The guy in the club house was very helpful when he said "good luck!" LOL We used a cart to do 9 holes....all holes and up and down hills...some on the side of a hills...very challenging for sure. Of course because of the weather the grass was really long in many places and the guy was out there trying to mow in spots that were dry enough but over all it's a beautiful course and we can't wait to spend the day out there again! read more

I really hate giving "low" reviews. Especially because I know some places try, but can only do the best with what they have. For example, anyone coming in to manage/run this golf course faces a HUGE obstacle, mainly the golf course itself. It was really not designed well. Doesn't have proper sprinkler systems(I'll assume). Doesn't have a good chunk of land to actually build on. So, I wouldn't expect much typically from a $10 round of golf. But, recently I've played a few places paying only that, and was quite surprised at how well they were kept up, and how well they were designed to maximize space while keeping it interesting. Therefore, my standards in the low-ball golf price range has changed based on what my other options are. And I'll say that even at $10, my other options are way better. The course feels aged. The grass is in a need for some serious TLC. I actually broke multiple tees just trying to put them into the ground to hit off of. The greens are almost impossible to get a good put on. Imagine putting on dirt with as many bumps as a put-put golf kinda place. And, true story, some of the greens had more dirt than grass. I guess we'll call em "browns" or "beiges". It doesn't have much land to work with, and you can sense it. Often a ball will come at you from the fairway right next to it. It's kind of like a "ping pong" back and forth kind of play. Again, I've seen other courses with little more space than this, and really maximize it though. So, design has a lot to do with the lackluster layout. There were people everywhere, several times people would jump ahead of us. Literally people were running around the course. Felt so chaotic. Overall, I'd say the best part about golfing out here, $2.50 beers. Can't beat that. Also, the staff was really cool and helpful. read more

So, we've been coming to this course for a few years now, and I finally decided to write a post. This course is exactly what you are looking for if you're a beginner, or just want to sharpen some of your skills. However, with that being said, the greens are a bit bumpy, and with the drought situation, the fairways can be dry...but most courses are like that this time of year. Some of the holes are long enough to bring out a driver, but if you are a long ball hitter...make sure people are off the green, like on hole 3. (Which I hit passed but left of the green) Since there are no hard hats available in the pro shop, be careful of "scud missile-like" golf balls from fellow hackers. It can get crowded some days, and backs up, due to the cheap rates, and beginners... but that's why I usually get a beer, and sit on some of the tee box benches, and enjoy the day out! After all, this course is best for beginners, please make sure you bring a good, patient attitude, and definitely, just go out and HAVE FUN WITH THE GAME... Plus, they sell BEER in the pro-shop! GGC is a great intermediate course to up your long hole game. I am challenged on every hole- all are way over 200 yards each. I want to master these par 3's and 4's SO snobby mc snob snobs that play at nicer courses can suck it! I like this course! Great views of the south county foot hills and wonderful lingering morning fog makes it comfortable to play until about noon. Well, this ain't gonna be pretty... It didn't help that our round started when we checked in with the biggest a**hole ever to work in a pro shop. This little course has few redeeming qualities for anyone with a decent golf game. The first hole is a very short Par 3 with a smooth rolling green. I was hoping the following 8 holes would be more of the same. Unfortunately, that couldn't be further from the truth. The greens were horrendous. They were completely run over by a clover infestation. Some of the greens actually had patches of mud in the middle. We simply picked our ball up and placed it in a better position when confronted with putting over mud. All Par 4s are driveable. We rented a driving cart (BIG mistake) because we were in a hurry. We ended up driving around with the choke pulled out just to make it run. The only reason I don't give it one star is that it's a perfect course for beginning golfers. No one should ever be embarassed out here. If someone would tell the ass behind the counter to improve his attitude, that could be a start in working toward a better rating. read more

5 stars if your a beginner I mean really, a JC w/their own golf course? I don't even think West Valley has that! It's cheap, if you are a beginner and you're intimidated and embarrassed, this is the perfect place. You tell everyone you are a beginner and that you suck and it's all good. This is a beginner's course and a great place to just play, let other's either play ahead or play with them, they don't care. Just know that it is a 9 hole and walking course. First of all, I gotta chuckle at their website -- "Gilroy Golf Course is dubbed one of the greatest 11-hole courses around." No kidding? As far as I'm concerned, it's the only 11-hole course in exsistance. Honestly, it really is 9 holes -- you play it twice to complete 18 holes. You play the white tees the first go around, and the blacks on the back nine. It is very similar to Gleneagles in SF. One thing is certain, Gilroy GC is NOT easy. The entire course is slanted. The fairways and greens are sloped and fast. The 8th hole was an interesting 265-yard par 3 straight downhill. The greens were also in great shape and were tough. The course was dead on this chilly November Saturday morning. We finished in 4 hours even. Not a great course. But challenging enough and a good bargain. $38 including a cart is decent -- and it is definitely a more interesting layout than your typical back-and-forth muni. read more

Its not Peeble Beach, well its not even the Pacific Grove Golf links, but for $10 a round its good enough for a quick hit around. For a 9 hole course there were more par 4s than the usual 9 hole courses, and it usually not too busy so you can take your time and concentrate on just your game. The fairways are narrow, but the greens were decent. Don't come here expecting a manicured fairway, and smooth greens, but this place is nice especially for the price. This place is ok, not so well-maintained but for 20 something buck or even less if you book online with golfnow its alright. Theres a lot of muddy areas and the cart path are not smooth at all. The driving range is a calamity. It's right along the first hole and all it takes is a slice from a novice golfer to come close to hitting you if on the first hole since there is no safety net. From my prior reviews you can see that I've been a long-time patron. And $7 for a huge bucket of balls is a bargain, especially when you can hit off the grass of you wish. There are few finer places to practice than in the shade of the old, old California Sycamore at the bottom of the hill. One star is for the range. That said, they've let the course itself go to the point where it's just not worth bothering, at any price. I realize that water and $$ issues are going to cause problems from tee-to-green. I can live with that, just slide your ball to a grassy spot and play on. You get what you pay for with golf. But they've lost chunks of every single green now. Some are bare dirt in spots, others have rodent holes. In other spots around greens, large piles of seemingly healthy sod have been pulled up and just left there to die. If there's a work in progress here, it's not readily apparent. Then we got to 9 today, and they have signs up saying "9th hole closed 1130a-4p today" For who? For what? There was a a group of First Tee kids when we started, but there were only two cars in the parking lot and one was ours. We were quite literally the only people playing or practicing then--on a beautiful Saturday. There seemed to be no reason not to play #9. And if there were, why not tells us when we paid, so we can work an extra hole in other than 8 to compensate. Sorry, Gav. You're off my list. read more

Even though we've lived in Gilroy for over 3 years, we hadn't played this course until yesterday. We thought it was great! Yeah, the 11-hole thing is a little weird, but this is a really interesting and fun course to play. There are enough quirks to keep the more experienced golfer interested, but it's also wide enough for beginners to feel comfortable. The greens were challenging, too. I had a great time playing, and my husband (who is a much better golfer than me) enjoyed it, too. What a hoot! read more

I love this golf course! I've been coming here a few years now and they have been really improving it over the years, the staff or students that work there are very nice and friendly. I'm not a pro by a long shot but this course is so much fun to go to with some friends and just have a good time, for $10 you can't beat it! I would recommend this course. Pros: Plenty of longish holes for a 9 hole course, zero wait time, super cheap and frolicking prairie dogs everywhere. Cons: Grim fairways, muddy greens and the homes of frolicking prairie dogs everywhere you step. I like this course for what it is; a cheap but fun beginners course where you can take your time and not feel sheepish about a duck hook left off the tee. It's rough around the edges but for $10 bucks you get what you pay for. We stopped in the middle of a long drive up 101 to stretch our legs and had a good time. Don't rent a cart - it's totally walkable and honestly some of the gravel foot paths would be a challenge on a cart. And don't expect snacks or beverages - the pro shop/snack bar is bare bones. Do bring extra balls - especially if you aren't so consistent with your driver. We lost a couple of balls to the neighboring fields (sorry Mr. Farmer...) read more
