Well maintained course with nice carts. Lots of people in t-shirts, felt over dressed in golf attire lol. Not as easy was we expected, different challenges with each hole. For example, 1st hole had a 90 degree dog leg right, some narrow fairways, up and down slopes, etc. But definitely a fun and somewhat chill course to play, especially on Father's Day. read more

Let's face it... this place is cool! Laid back easy going vibe to it! Staff was nice while I checked in.. probably more friendly than "upscale" places. The holes are interesting and you will need a map/scorecard to find the next holes/etc because it isn't always obvious. I will definitely go back! read more

I've been playing this golf course off and on for decades. It's a beautiful, picturesque, and challenging course hidden in the hills of Watsonville. Although the staff has turned over, I feel like family every time I walk in the door and this is a testament to how the owners Amy and Jacques expect their clients to be treated. It's just a great, great group of people. The green fees are very reasonable and their special order pizza's are awesome! Pay for a round of golf in the morning, have a pizza and beer for lunch, and then finish the day with another 18 holes on the house! Play on your birthday free of charge! The only downside is the fairways and sand traps need better maintenance. I've never seen the fairways aerated and over-seeded, so we're generally playing off weeds. And in the summer, some areas are as dry as a bone which is great for distance, but can do a number on your clubs if you play it as it lays. Overall a great, challenging course with low rates and friendly caring people keep me coming back! read more

Truly, a hidden gem! A diamond in the "rough!" (Sorry!) Come for the golf! Stay for the awesome pizza! Hang out and take in the incredible hospitality! It has been years since I made the trek to the foothills of Watsonville, and boy was it worth the drive! The course is in fantastic condition - tee boxes, fairways, and greens! The greens are near-flawless (but for some ball marks left behind) -- undulating, and fast! (Keep an eye on the grain of the grass, too!) Very reasonable green fees! Post-round, we ordered the Pesto Chicken Pizza - perfectly-sized, 8 slice pie for two. Perfectly done crust, plenty of cheese, pesto sauce, and pulled chicken! Incredible! The course is a little cramped if you have a hard time hitting straight, but it's scenic and fun to drive around. A good time and surprisingly good pizza. I highly recommend the pesto chicken pizza when you're done with your game. read more

I was made aware by a black friend who played this with me that he actually felt very unwelcome here. The locals he said, made him feel as if the money he paid didn't really entitle him to use the golf course. I've felt this racism here before but this only confirmed it. I would encourage People of Color to stay far away from this course. They just want it for locals. And none of the locals are black... and the locals seem to like it that way. I will say, speaking of locals, the pace of play among regulars can be a problem. They send out five-somes all the time and they take over 5 hours. They don't play ready golf. And they don't let people play through. It feels very much like rules for thee but not for me. I would like the course to make sure all groups try and get done in 4 hours and 15 minutes. My favorite course. Beautiful, natural and warm. Owners and staff treat you like a friend. Interesting and fair layout, and very fun. If it's your first outing, ask for tips as some holes demand a certain shot, anyone who knows the course will gladly educate you. As of my last round the course is in great shape, greens run true, sand in bunkers and fairways are green. The rewards and penalties can be handed out equally depending on your game. There are high handicap to scratch players who play here and love it. I generally avoid eating at most courses but I'd come here for pizza or burgers even if I'm not playing. It's that good! Also, the locals I've met are interesting and welcoming, if you come solo and get paired up I guarantee an enjoyable round. One last word-no housing on course, it's pure golf. read more

What a magic day! I came to play the course for the first time in my life on Fathers Day and could not of enjoyed my time any more. A short but challenging beautiful course with some fantastic views of the hills and valleys of Watsonville. More than the golf the staff and extras were outstanding, Ian the young man working in the club house was nothing short or first class. Too top it off they have pizzas are out of this world, some of the best pizza I have ever had, wonderful surprise. But the best part was the wild life, this was the first round I have played since my fathers passing and he was a nature nut. We saw deer, bobcats, and turkeys.... Even an ALBINO TURKEY, it was the first I have ever seen and made me think of my dad and some of our hunting adventures. I look forward to returning and seeing it again. This place is a hidden gem!! It's a bit of a drive from San Francisco airport (as a reference point ) they're very close to Santa Cruz as well. The course is beautiful (water falls and bridge feature would look sick in wedding pics !!! ) That said, I golfed here with my wife n two lady friends. The course is well maintained by a polite and friendly staff. (They almost seemed to be family ((maybe the actual course owners?)) I dunno but that was the vibe I got. Anyways. Beautiful and challenging course with features that were seemingly designed to challenge both your distance control and your ability to read terrain. The Spring Hills course has well defined borders and boundaries. It has a well loved and rustic blacktop cart path that triggers the kid in you but doesn't seem to be in danger of killing you or damaging the carts. The course feels clean and safe with really good water drainage. I didn't see any litter or excessive animal crap anywhere not did I see any sick or wounded animals. The animals were happy and healthy but not obnoxious cart bandits. I lost 7 balls in the first 9 holes. The course has beautiful wilderness and every lost ball was a sacrifice to the gods of golf and nature. If you're going golfing with newbs and you just wanna show off your 300 yard drives; Then this isn't a course for you. If you want to be challenged and you want to get a chance to try to accurately place your golf shots; then try Spring Hills!! Their bathrooms were clean and didn't stink or have super slippery floors. They had quality toilet paper, paper towels and soap dispensers in every bathroom. (Note guys. Want your wife to enjoy golfing with you? Take her to courses with lots of clean, nice smelling and functional bathrooms and a minimal of animal poo strewn about. Goes a long way. Ever pick up a ball with goose crap on it ?) Their Covid 19 preps and precautions were clear, sensible and consistently enforced and influenced without being authoritarian or confrontational. The ponds were clean with non marshy boundaries and a healthy "pond like " appearance as opposed to other swamps I've seen at other courses. Hmmm Oh! The cheeseburgers were great ! They were included in the tournament we played as part of a local amateur league. I wasn't expecting much. A cheeseburger is pretty straightforward and billions of dollars are made annually with fast food crap versions of them. So a burger is a burger but we all know there are certainly different grades of a burger. This one was a solidly done high quality burger. The buns were toasted and buttered. The patty was quality beef and a good 1/3 Lb. They were flat top grilled with a good sear or char on them and well seasoned. The cheese was a thick cut solid yellow cheddar melted and gooey with fresh pickle chips, red onion slice,tomato slice and butter lettuce. Condiment packs of name brand ketchup, mustard, Mayo, S&P, utensils and napkins were served in a sealed container labeled with your name. A cup of potato salad or a bag of Lays was included as well. Both tasty (I shared with my wife). It was quite literally the first day I've had with my friends in MONTHS and I wouldn't have changed a thing. Hey Spring Hills. If anything I said was wrong or incorrect fell free to correct me as I meant no insult or complaint. I simply wanted to describe adequately the impression that I got of your course. Spring Hills is definitely a hidden gem nestled on the outskirts of Watsonville and in the foothills of Mount Madonna. The front 9 is quite the challenge, as the first 5 holes are very tight and trouble is very easy to find. After that it opens up quite nicely, but still provides a solid challenge for all skill levels. The practice facilities are not in the greatest shape. Some of the mats are a little haggard and worn, but a small bucket of I think 30 balls is like 5 bucks, so its not the end of the world to me personally. The staff is always friendly and professional, rates are not outrageously expensive. I play here quite often and never really have problems with big crowds, mostly local golfers that kind of keep to themselves. Good overall course, would recommend to anyone! read more

I love Spring Hills. From Amy and Jacque , the owners, who are there everyday to Bobby who books the tee times and runs the bar it is like stepping back in time. People who care and make you feel they are genuinely happy to see you. Course is located out in the country with no houses on the course which makes for a peaceful round. Didn't give 5 stars because, yes, there are better courses on the Monterey peninsula but this course is in great shape from fairway to greens and has reasonable green fees and great ambiance. read more

I really expected much more from this golf course, but did it disappoint. To start off the 1st hole is an exaggerated dogleg right almost like a V!!! Some of the holes have water canals to the left and right so you if get an unlucky bounce your toast. Some of the holes are on an nearly unplayable hills, greens are in rough shape also. It does offer a scenery as you are out in the boonies not much else going. The clubhouse staff was rather friendly but I was not impressed by the course. read more

You'd never find this place without knowing exactly where you're going - it sits in the hills and ranchos between Watsonville and Gilroy, near Corralitos. The man who built the course ran a 160-acre horse ranch on the property but decided to build a 9-hole course on the land in the mid-1960's. A 2nd 9-holes was added later to create the course you see today. The 1911 farm house serves as the pro-shop and grill. Nice variety of terrain. Lots of small water hazards (creeks, ponds). Beautiful scenery and low-key crowd. read more

The course really speaks true to its name, there are quite a few hills and one of the more interesting course design I have seen. Spring Hills has a very exciting landscape which provides long yard holes. Some of my favorite Holes here are the ones where you stand on top of a large hill and shoot off. The nice part is the price. It is not too expensive to play here and after 3pm you can walk the course for only $15. read more

Played here on a Saturday in mid-September, and had fairly low expectations when I arrived. I was pleasantly surprised at the cozy but friendly clubhouse and the course itself. The first two holes are a pretty tough way to start, but once I settled into a routine I enjoyed the variety of hole designs. A great closing 18th hole, downhill par 4 with approach over water that is clearly the signature hole at this course. I hope to return in the next few months and am confident I can cut 5+ shots off my score just by knowing the layout a bit better. You cannot see much of the danger from the tee box on several holes, including tight OB markers on some holes and some sloping fairways with severe runoffs. read more

Played here May 2012. It's tricky to find but the reward is quiet and solitude. Crazy design to some holes, easy to lose a ball if you get too brave. Play with a local for best strategy. I was very impressed by the genuine hospitality I encountered when I checked in. $38 w/cart (Sr rate) is a great price. Family owned and operated, a major change from the corporate or muni attitudes exhibited but the zombies I usually deal with. I highly recommend making this a stop when visiting the area. It's a pleasant escape from the hustle-bustle of the area. Bunker on #17 needs TLC but the greens were excellent !!! Give it a look-see, you won't be disappointed. Rich read more

Love hate with this golf course. Not the longest course, but trouble can find on numerous holes without local knowledge. Also the greens size are some of smallest in the county. Friendly staff. I played here a bunch in the mid / late '90's -- what a treat, to get away from all the crowds and b.s. at the San Jose area courses. Spring Hills will test all of your game and its a beautiful walk, too. Just far enough off the beaten path to keep the boneheads away. I've since moved north to Seattle and miss the geography of the Santa Cruz mountains and surrounds-- Spring Hills is a gem. Hopefully it sticks around for years to come. read more

I've been going here for more than 20 years. The course is pretty municipal like. So-So fairways but the greens are usually very good. A real 18 hole course where a premium is placed on accuracy but length not so much. Some of the holes are funky but that just forces you to hit different shots. That's what makes golf fun. If your looking for a resort/country club golf course keep looking. If you want a no frills, relaxing, comfortable, affordable round of golf then this is your place. Whenever you hear someone complaining about unlucky bounces they're probably talking about the golf ball bouncing off the wrong part of the club face. The staff here is a refreshing change from the snotty attitudes of most bay area golf courses who act like they are doing you a favor by letting you play there. The people here try harder and really seem to appreciate your business. For the price and service it's the best deal around. Good course, good price, great customer service. weird. course was designed by a farmer who did not play golf back in the 50's or so. you can tell by the layout which makes no sense at all, including par fours you have hit irons off the tee and woods into the greens. par threes that are extremely elevated so you overshoot the hole and hit cars in the parking lot behind the green. i have seen more than one car get a divot in their hood. poor drainage too. the 10th hole becomes a swamp, even in the summer when the sprinkler system runs. o well, at least its golf and its cheap read more
