Fun course if you enjoy playing in the trees lol . Very scenic with fun elevations 2 & 10 are my favorites. Staff is helpful and the course aid lady who drives around is very sweet. Excellent food choices at the turn it's a must stop! Keep your eye out for the begging coyote at the turn- it's followed us the entire 10th hole twice now but doesn't bother us at all. Think it's hoping for some scraps. Range is mat only and tees are hard to come by. Ball dispenser is glitchy (bad WiFi service I believe). If you use 18 birdies or GHIN for course map and yardages be sure to grab wifi code at check in. Again very glitchy service up there. Be sure to stop at one of the lookout spots on your way home. read more

First time playing this course and first time playing an 18 hole at that. The course itself is beautiful and fairly maintained. The membership pricing is a good deal from the local spots weve been to.The facilities are fairly clean and they have a restraunt on site called the Overlook. We ended up grabbing some burgers and fries from there. Pretty solid food. Two burgers and an order of fries and tip came to $50. The course is definitely not for beginners. I had a hard time hitting from even the junior's section so i sorta gave up. Apart from that though my biggest complaint would be for the way they upcharge. They didn't honor afternoon pricing and tried to upcharge on the golf cart. It was ~$76 for me (non-member) and ~$52 for my husband (member) for a Saturday afternoon tee time plus another $40 ($36 for members) for the cart rental. Unfortunately, I didn't even end up playing because the course was too hard for me so it was a waste of money for me to just sit in the cart. The other downside was that it took 6.5 hours to get through this course because of all the wait times. It should've been less than 4 hours. So i wasn't much of a happy camper in the cold. Lesson learned- wear more layers. We still come back for the driving range. I may send my husband off to play on the course until I can get better at hitting the distance. It's been years since I've played TPGC but got in 18 this morning. Check in was easy, carts were in good shape, fairways and tee boxes were clean, and the greens were smooth. Course seemed more narrow than I remember. It's a tough track as it's pretty hilly, and you're hitting from uneven lies unless you can hit it dead straight. The first hole was tough... hitting an uphill par 4 to an elevated green. Good mix of average and skilled players. Several Marshals kept the pace moving along. Other East Bay courses could use Marshals like TPGC... friendly and ever-present. Challenging round but a good time. Only con- the perfectly placed restaurant at the turn ran out of breakfast burritos. read more

Love that there's a private golf course not too far away from where I live. Tilden Park Golf Course is gorgeous and I've only had the pleasure of visiting the driving range. Most visitors respect the peace & quiet so you can actually focus and get into the zone. At night or in the early mornings you'll see deer walking around the range as well. It gets really packed here after work hours so it can be difficult to find a stall. They have three levels to hit from but the ground floor has no lights or heaters so it gets absolutely dark after 5pm in the wintertime. read more

I've got the golf itch, and making my way around the bay to play the different courses. We played Tilden on a Sunday, and were surprised that we were able to finish in a little over 4.5 hours. The course itself is not super easy, so if you are a beginner golfer it can be on the tougher side because the fairways are narrow and greens are small. The greens weren't in bad shape and they rolled fast at times. Tough to read but a fun challenge nonetheless. Tee boxes definitely could use some love, fairways were in decent shape considering. Lots of high:low shots as you go around the course, and you'll end up using a lot of the clubs in your bag. If you are an above average golfer and hit the ball further than average, you'll end up with a lot of short irons for your approach shots. Pace of play was slow at times, but somehow we finished under 5hrs. The backups were primarily on the par 3s. We booked a tee time online, and they have dynamic pricing where some of the tee times are discounted and include a cart. For a weekend round it was around $80 with a cart which is reasonable compared to other courses we've played on the weekend. read more

Gorgeous, challenging public course! Made the trek up to Tilden park on a chilly Sunday afternoon. I was an awe the entire drive up! Located above the UC Berkeley hills, the views of the bay are absolutely stunning. Winding roads and lots of bikers are to be expected. My boyfriend booked us a midday tee time the night before - very fairly priced. Around $70 per person and $20 to add a cart. We arrived about an hour early to check in and enjoy some lunch at their on-sight restaurant, The Overlook. Check in was a breeze. I was actually surprised to see how casual this was, there was no marshall or anyone calling out who was up next to tee off. No biggie for me, I prefer that, but it can cause a little confusion. The first hole will humble you real quick, Par 4/5 completely uphill! Definitely the hardest hole of the 18. The course itself wasn't in the best condition but also not the worst, expected in the middle of winter. Pace of play seemed a lot slower than it actually was. There was a tournament ahead of us and we were backed up 1 or 2 groups pretty much every hole, still managed to finish up in under 5 hours. I very much enjoyed playing here, other than it being absolutely freezing! It's challenging for all levels of golfers and it truly is beautiful. read more

Course is fun to play. Many challenging holes and greens. Loved our first time here. Some holes are very close to each other. So be careful. As you're ready to tee off, balls from the next door fairway may be coming towards your head. Glad we rented carts. Green fees were reasonable on weekdays ($56). Cart fee reasonable too ($19 per player). Competitive pricing. Staff: The older Asian ladies are super nice. Very accommodating if you have questions. HOWEVER, they have a Starter who's over 60 years old and rude, argumentative, and mean as h*ll!! I don't know why he's hired to harass paying customers. He chastised me for asking a simple question which was, "May we drive to the first tee?" He went into a tirade about how we CANNOT go near the first tee until our exact time. He said "You can't be late!" Well old man we aren't. We have 5 min before our tee time. In case you golf here and wonder who he is, he's got black-brown hair, stands about 5 foot 8 inches, Filipino or Hispanic. File a complaint if he verbally abuses you. Awesome municipal course behind the Berkeley campus. I made a same day tee time for myself here, which is almost near impossible where I live. The pro shop even had crappy club rentals, which I was thankful for, even though there were no grooves left on most of the clubs. Carts don't have GPS and there's no food on the course, you must go into the bar/grill at the turn if you want food. Twilight rates after 4pm is great during the summer. This course is full of hills and the wildlife make appearances on certain greens. There are turkeys and deer roaming so be careful! The fairways are ok but very deceiving. Some holes you must lay-up to stay out of the ditch etc There's a driving range, practice putting greens and plenty of overflow parking so you can come here just to practice too. Overall I had a blast. On a muni course! read more

Honestly, Tilden's a beautiful course but for daily practice at the range and putting/chipping greens, the fee's just too high. Especially when you consider the exact same club amenities are available at Chabot for $30/month - that's less than half of Tilden's monthly fee. I switched over to Chabot and the first 3 guys I met there were Tilden ex-pats. I'll still golf Tilden's course now and then, and I'll pay for it with the money I'm saving every month practicing at Chabot. read more

I am a local and twice in the last month i left my magnetic laser on the golf cart as I turned it in and twice it did mot make the club house they were Bushnell brand , ji need for my tournament play somehow there are some dishonest cart kids there , my bad I forgot my laser it happen before but always got it back but the two i lost were at Tilden so watch out for your stuff there , i will also put this on Reddit golf subreddit. read more

Fun course on top of Berkeley, reminds me of Chabot with all the hills. I was planning to walk it but thankfully my group and I ended up getting carts cause ain't no way we were going to walk that. Came on a Sunday afternoon, there were some waiting at a few holes but we were still able to finish all 18. I've been playing Tilden my entire life and wanted to share current conditions of the course but also further thoughts on the design and operations as well. Tilden is a truly unique layout unique to itself in the serenity that is Tilden Park. The course is beautifully placed in the redwoods with nothing except the Berkeley Hills as its backdrop. The course has an Parkland feel but with a NorCal flair. One of the most difficult courses you can walk on par with Presidio and maybe only bested by Lake Chabot. The course is in dire need of a renovation as well as new management who can oversee a renovation of this magnitude and continue to maintain the course sufficiently post renovation. If the course were to be renovated properly with a new drainage system and money invested to modernize the layout and design, Tilden could be one of the best courses in the region if not the state due to its amazing setting. The sad thing is even though management has changed multiple times the investment from the East Bay regional park department most likely won't come. On to the course conditions. The Bay Area has been blessed with amazing weather again this year, with foggy mornings and evenings being commonplace across the East Bay. This wouldn't be a problem if Tilden had proper drainage and a grass type that handled moisture better but due to this much of the fairways and rough was overgrown to the point where they were water logged and muddy. Balls hit in the fairway would hardly roll on some holes due to mud and the greens were very soggy considering the time of year. Tee Boxes: mostly flat but some were over seeded and others are not large enough to move the blocks around to cycle the growth properly. This ends up in the blocks being moved to the front or back of many tee boxes Fairways: some holes were dried out and had very little coverage, others had long grass and seemed like they hadn't been mowed in 1-2 weeks. Strange confusing conditions as many good drives were not rolling out as they should. A few were in good shape as well but overall lacked consistency Greens: most were soggy and slow but the occasional greens that received more sunlight were significantly quicker. They rolled mostly true and were very receptive to irons and wedges Rough: lots of patchy spots on some holes, some didn't have a clear cut between the rough and fairway. Overgrown in some areas and damaged by a mowing staff that doesn't understand how to properly maintain rough. Bunkers: had decent wet sand that you could play out of but they clearly hadn't been raked by the maintenance staff in more than a day or longer. Pace of play wasn't terrible as I played 9 holes in 1:45 but due to the layout long waits are common on 3-9, 10-12 and 15-16. This round was in the middle of the week at 6PM so expected it to be faster but course was very busy. Considering the conditions Tilden would be a great course to work on your game but it is seemingly always crowded so makes it difficult to really sell much about this course except for the scenery and the setting. Until the course gets renovated it will continue to struggle with these issues. The practice facilities are excellent and probably what keeps this place afloat along with the new restaurant. read more

this goes back July 5, 2024. I called the GM left both my work number my email and my personal number. I received one phone call back from him. Left me a message and that was that. On July 5, I came with two friends and this is what happened when I went to go get my carts, I paid for two it only received one key so this individual told me that I did not pay for the other card. I was a bit confused never heard of it however, being under new management from the last time, I was there I decided to go with the flow so then I was charged a spectator fee and then was told there were no more carts so I paid two times for cart and never received. When I went out to go get the one card that I did get I had to wait because it was chaos and there were people grabbing carts and driving away. LI'm standing there with the receipt and I have no cart, I do get a cart. He doesn't even ask me for my receipt so now I understand why they have no carts. And then l went to go get beverage at the cart that was being used during their renovation and the young lady overcharged me I said you owe me five dollars unless my math is wrong and somebody from behind me said yeah it's wrong. She proceeded to pay me the five dollars she had shorted me and when I walked away, she engaged in conversation with the young men that were behind me that were rude. I went up to my friends, and as we waited for our turn to tee off, I noticed chaos and confusion. People asking each other what time their teatime was nobody knew who their partners were. It was pretty ridiculous. everything seem to be OK until we got to the 10th hole and there was a delay then there was another delay at the next hole and another delay. After that by the time we reached the 14th hole someone had hit into us and they came up to us and ask if they can go through, I advised them that they almost hit my friend and we can't go anywhere because we're jammed. They took off and passed us, but I didn't see them until much later and noticed that it was a lot of jumping from different hole to different hole by different kids, and we noticed they were not having any respect for anybody and they were hitting their ball over and over chasing their ball down the hill hitting it from there coming back up the hill. That caused a huge delay by the time we got to the 18th hole, it was pretty dark, but we were determined to finish when a young lady came up to us and said that the park is closed and if we didn't leave that she was going to lock our cars in the park and there was nothing we could do about it and then she rode away. We got off the golf course. I took my friend to his car and was going to the pro shop when it was closed so I could not get my $10 deposit. I left my cart there and went back to my friend so he can give me a ride to my car which was on the outside of the gate when we got to the gate, the young woman was there with another young man and she was not pleasant at all, and she was yelling for us to hurry up. I am not the only one that experienced this type of horrible customer service. The fact that there is nobody to regulate these kids who run the pro shop literally blows my mind. What is the sense of building a nice restaurant if nobody is going to go. I guess my business is not good enough to be given the respect of someone who works nearby and would go there on my lunch breaks on my days off after work and now I no longer go. Also, I have colleagues who have chosen to no longer go to Tilden because of what it has become. Had a great time on this course. Deeply embedded in the mountains its impressively isolated, lots of high-low tee shots, and very cool wildlife. It's a pretty challenging course with dog-legs and narrow fairways but well-maintained. What really won me over was the staff -- they were super friendly checking in but beyond that, I left my ball-finder there and got in touch with Tommy 4 days later. He promptly went to go check for it and gave me a call back (wasn't expecting that) saying he'd found it and would keep it safe for me till next time. I called to ask when they stop selling driving range balls. They said 8pm. I drive and get there around 7:40pm, their entry gate is already closed. I've seen them close it early many times. You can still walk in through the exit gate. I get to the driving range ball dispensers and they're all off already. Didn't see any signs about them being out of order. The top floor machine had a basket propping the top lid open. All the other machines had the red light on. I tried using my key fob on one to get balls and it accepted it. I can hear the machine dispensing but no balls were coming out. There were other patrons there trying to get balls, running around confused. They increased their monthly membership rates recently too. read more

Located on top of the UC Berkeley campus, it takes a bit drive to come up here. But this place is nice. 3 floors of driving range, and a beautiful 18-hole course that make the parking lot constantly full. With a restaurant next to the office, this provides everything you need for golf experience. Besides that, you can practice chipping, putting and bunker shots. Many people come here for driving range and it is still full even though on Sundays. The view of the course is breathtaking, the range balls are above average and the air is so fresh, and sometimes actually cold. I would live to come back again for whatever the purpose is. This is just a nice place to be at any given time. read more

There is no starter and nobody really said when we were up so we just went at our tee time. Only negative on the day for me. My first time ever playing at Tilden, I wanted to cry. The fairway is really narrow and the people playing there can be mean but that's not the courses fault at all! I had a 8:30am tee time and was playing in wet muddy grass (I slipped twice) plus the fog made it extremely hard to see where I was hitting. Plus I got called a dumbass by some other group. Not a pleasant first experience but gave this place a couple more tries. Second time my bf and I were paired with two older gentlemen and on that 8th hole, another group came to us and basically scolded the older man saying he needs to hurry up or go home, not being understanding that he's older and can't hit 300 yards like you youngins... They ended up leaving on the 14th hole. I went back on Labor Day and experience was much better. No wet grass or fog. Game went great until some random guy from another group and hole stole my bfs ball that was on OUR fairway while we were teeing off and refused to give us our ball back. It's not the $5 ball we care about but it's the principle, don't go stealing other peoples ball. Not sure why but there's always something that happens with other groups trying to be rude. It can really affect your game because it doesn't settle well.. Overall this course is amazing and I do love it but this isn't an easy course by any means. Plus all the distractions can really hinder your game and mood. I will continue going because it's not the courses fault but this is a warning to people who are nice and forgiving; you kinda have to be rough and aggressive here to "fit in" I guess.. read more

What a delightful day. This is an interesting, challenging, lush green course (guessing potable water? - didn't see any signs). We always enjoy our round and have been paired with the nicest people. My husband and I got a monthly Player's Club membership in 2020 and enjoyed playing / going to the driving range. The monthly rate was really good, considering everything that was included. We moved to Napa in July of 2021 and made multiple attempts to cancel our membership, but their website is terrible and wouldn't let us remove/update our payment method. I reached out to the general manager (Sam Crader) and after a long wait, he finally got back to me and said he had updated our accounts, so we should no longer be charged. Well, that was a lie... Tilden has continued to charge us monthly and I have yet to hear back from Sam. I'm posting to the Better Business Bureau next. It saddens me that something that gave us so much joy has now become a major stressor, all because Tilden does bad business. read more

I loved coming here and was happy with the deal that the PLAYERS CLUB offered. All of a sudden though they raised the monthly fee on me, as well as raised the back nine tee time fee without warning. Also, they took away the free beverage that came with booking a round of 18 without warning. This is why I left the players club and will golf otherwise from now on. The thing saving the course is that the staff is really cool and the head groundskeeper is an awesome guy! read more

Beautiful, tree-lined golf course in the Berkeley Hills. Different people feel differently about golf, and about the trappings of privilege that seem to come with it; but, we have a beautiful public golf course right here in the East Bay. The pro-shop rents clubs, and also gives away odd clubs periodically (ask about the bins in front of the counter. A medium bucket of balls is $11, and a large is $15. The membership costs $40 per month, and comes with a large bucket of balls every day in addition to discounted green fees. Extra shout-out to Sam C., who assisted me at the pro shop today. I was commiserating about a broken driver, and he let me know that a cheap replacement could be had over at Kepler's in Walnut Creek. 110% customer service. read more

This is a very challenging course. Locals call it billy goat golf. There are lots of hills,up and down with several challenging holes. If you are a double digit handicapper, bring lots of balls. This track is very narrow and due to the hills and tight fairways typically plays slow. On a weekend with the weekend warriors on the course it can take 6 hours where you are literally waiting on each shot. During the week is much better. The driving range has plenty of matts in a two tier setup. But they seem to run out of range balls often and there is often a line to get balls. It's probably one of the most scenic and peaceful golf courses in the area. It is fairly well maintained and the greens are decent. There are always specials and discounts and you can get a round with cart for as little as 27 bucks. This is an AGA course so their are team memberships lessons junior and senior groups if you are so inclined. With this the closet course and range to my house, I don't mind playing once in a while when it's not too crowded. I often just go to the range to tune up the ol swing. The staff is supper friendly and their marshals are typically retired folks who love the complimentary golf they get to play and can be very helpful in instructing your shots. The snack bar while not pretty has hella great views and pretty much all the liquid refreshment snacks and grub you could need between front and back as well as a nice terrace for the infamous 19th hole. That's where the scorecards get added over beers and noshes. Last tip- the fog from the bay can hover over the course rendering it 10-20 degrees colder than when you started. So bring a Sweater or jacket to carry incase. read more

Not sure what is going on since profits should be at an all time high with customers running to the golf course during the pandemic, but the course is running as if it has no money at all. Doesn't seem like there is much staff and the staff they do have are rude and lazy. There are consistently no golf balls in the machines nor are there buckets to put the balls in. The course itself is in somewhat decent shape, but they need to hire a new manager who will whip this place into shape. Very disappointing as a customer who has been coming here for the past 15 years. read more

DO NOT... I REPEAT DO NOT BOOK A ROUND AT TILDEN PARK USING GOLFNOW. I booked my first round ever at Tilden on Golfnow for June 15th. I showed up to the course, paid the round with my credit card and was off. ( I wont even talk about the 5 hours and 45 minutes it took to complete the round). It was days after the round my trouble started. I received an Automated email from Golfnow saying the course reported I didnt show up for my round and they were debiting my credit card the full cost of the round. I contacted golfnow support multiple times, I provided copies of my credit card statements showing I did pay the full cost of the round on June 15th and nothing. Evidently the GOLFNOW Policy is that if a course reports you didnt show up, they bill you the full cost of the round until the course says otherwise. Golfnow forwarded my communication and credit card statement to the course, and the course still denied the request to reverse the charge. I am disputing the charge with my card company, obviously, but I cant be the only person this is happening too. Sounds like Tilden has a great little scam going of reporting people arnt showing for their Tee Times booked online and being able to double charge for the greens fees. So the only way I would recommend anyone play this course is if you enjoy paying twice to play an almost six hour round. read more

The course ran out of carts so we teed off an hour after our scheduled tee time. Staff gave us two options to "solve" this issue: walk our round or go home. If you are going to enforce a one-person-per-cart policy, then you should have enough carts to implement that policy... This is my second time playing at Tilden and I had the same exact situation both times. Staff is not interested in solving this issue, perhaps Tilden should consider hiring an adult instead of 20 college kids who sit around and wait for their shift to be over.
