I can see how this is a spot for the regulars/locals and not for the ones that like to play at spots like Top Golf. If you are looking for a Top Golf experience do NOT come here. Came here with a group of people and one of them happens to be a regular so I could see the treatment was different. The location has plenty of parking, some outdoor/indoor seating, good priced alcohol and two levels to hit the balls into buckets. Service was decent (two bartenders who also served the food) bartender made sure to come out once in a while to see if anyone needed drinks and didn't have to wait long. Nothing fancy , but again sometimes you just want a place to have a beer and hit some buckets. Overall for people who just want to focus on hitting the balls and not the ambiance this is the spot, but for larger groups or ones expecting something fancier this is not the spot. read more

I came here to celebrate my little brother's 18th birthday. He has been going to this business since he was a little boy to practice golf. We purchased at least 4 buckets of balls, bought drinks from the bar, ordered food, etc. Our party was at least 20 people total. My brother and his friends left for the 3-par course and when they returned, they were followed by an employee who completely lacked any composure, class, or even a hint of professionalism. He accused our kids of stealing and 'trying to get in free' to a place that we'd already spent at least a couple hundred dollars at. Despite the kids compliance and respect, this man was completely aggressive and utterly disrespectful. Cursing, profanity, hostility and all the things. Telling the kids they stink! I still can't believe it. All the kids but one are African-American, but when he realized he had to talk to our white mother, this man changed his whole tune. Needless to say we will never come back here and the management will be hearing from multiple people in our party. The nostalgia of this business is completely tainted and I hope that employee, who many of us can EASILY identify if needed, is handled accordingly. read more

Worst experience ever. I was attending a birthday party with my friends and I who were all paid costumers of the driving range and then relocated to the 3 par course which was not specified anywhere that there was extra payment needed to enter. we were on the 2nd hole when the manager, a middle aged man, and a younger female companion approached the bottom of the hill and started screaming and using extremely disrespectful amounts of profanity at us as we tried to calmly explain that we didn't know there was an additional payment requirement. As we exited the range after they both refused to hear us out there were disrespectful comments said from the both of them and uncalled hostility, these comments included "keep f ing walking" "where are you going" "that's not the exit" and when my friend said to the manager "this has to be racism" he responded with "has to be". I will never step foot on this establishment again and I have never felt so disrespected up front. If you want to have a good time golfing or enjoying yourself with friends and family, go anywhere else. read more

The food was mediocre at best, but the absolute worst part of my experience was dealing with the owner who yelled at me when I wanted to pay my bill with Apple Pay. He was a complete jerk and I can guarantee that we won't be going back. I recommend that if they have a cash only policy that they post signage around the restaurant. I was very displeased with my recent visit to this golf course when I came as a guest for my friend's birthday celebration. His family payed to use the driving range as well as multiple buckets of golf balls. After swinging for around an hour we made our way to 3-par course. By the time we made it to the second hole, we were met with extreme aggression, repeated profanity, all around hostility from the manger and his female counterpart yelling at us to get off of the course. We looked around confused not understanding what was happening. The man and woman made their way to our group continuing to yell and curse claiming that we were stealing from him and that we had not payed to use the 3-par course. This information was never communicated to us throughout our stay and instead of explaining that there was an additional fee for the 3-par course the 2 employees shouted comments as 'get the f*** out' and 'keep f-ing walking" and when my friend questioned his intents stating she felt profiled saying 'this is racism' he said 'must be'. These profane comments and aggressive demeanor continued even when we tried to explain the misunderstanding in a calm and collected manner, stating that we were apart of a birthday celebration and had paid for golf balls, he told us that we was canceling our reservation and forcing our entire party to leave, without any discussion or conversation. Our party then left feeling very unsafe and unwelcomed. If your looking for a place to golf in the bay area do NOT come to this establishment if it can even be labeled as such. read more

I just experienced one of the most racist and unprovoked acts of anger while at this course. My group of friends and I, who happen to be black, were enjoying a birthday party at the driving range that was paid for in full before we even arrived. We ventured onto to a 3 par course, bringing balls that had also been paid for previously. After around 25 minutes of practicing our swings, we were yelled at from down the hill by the elderly manager and a young woman. They were screaming at us to "get the F out" and when we asked if they were speaking to us, they said "who the F else would we be speaking to". One of my friends asked if there was a problem as we gathered our belongings to start walking toward them, and we were told that we weren't allowed to be on the course without paying which we didn't know before. Instead of respectfully telling us this information, or asking us politely to leave, they resorted to shouts and profanity. We were then told that we were stealing balls, and weren't given a chance to explain that they came from the main section of the birthday party at the driving range. We were followed back to the group of adults we were with, and comments by the manager included "this doesn't look like the exit, keep F-ing walking", "you smell", and when I said that this has to be racism, the manager responded with "has to be". The entire party, including those who were still at the driving range, were told they need to leave despite having paid for a longer time at the range. The manager was hostile to every black member of the group but was slightly more respectful to the white people in attendance. I will never give my money or time to this establishment ever again. read more

I was invited out to this location. This is my opinion as a non golfer. There is a good amount of parking. This place looks like its been here for a while so no really as appealing to the eye. It seems like this is a nice place for regulars. The guy in the front was a little spicy and for someone who doesnt know him Id think he was rude but it seems like that was his personality. They provided everything you need. I think the cost was $15 for a bucket and club. They have two levels to hit from. The people who come here were very nice. They left early had extra balls and said we could hit them. There is also a bar here. Overall a nice experience and fun activity. read more

The range balls are a random stockpile of scuffed practice balls, the course is barely serviceable, the tee boxes are worn down old mats and I always bring cash just in case the old owner is manning the register so I don't get yelled at. There is no virginal white marble here and the cisterns are not filled with Chanel No. 5. This very well might be the worst course in the San Francisco Bay Area. But the beer is cold and cheap, the staff welcoming and everyone here is having a good time. For a few bucks you can play this casual pitch and putt which is a great track for beginners and experienced golfers alike. I can hardly think of a better day of golf than hitting the range, walking the course (don't bother booking online, just pay in the shop and walk on) and grabbing a few beers at the bar after. Temper expectations and understand you're not at Augusta or Pebble. This is a neighborhood golf course and driving range that happens to have a homey feeling bar. If you're a fan of a good dive and more importantly a genuineness that is increasingly hard to find in this day and age, you'll be a fan of Montclair Golf Enterprises. God bless this mess! read more

After 9 years I returned and absolutely nothing has changed. And when I say nothing, I'm talking about the rugs, interior and even the golf balls. $10 for a small bucket, it's the most expensive in the East Bay and the worst quality. They obviously buy the balls from eBay or from someone who picks up balls at some local muni. This is a leased property from the city and the owner refuses to put one penny into fixing it up. Unfortunately he doesn't realize that if he did it would generate more money. The food is hit or miss depending on the cook. It seems like it's a swinging door for out of work chefs who occasionally might cook something interesting before they move on to a serious restaurant that pays better. I always feel like this is one of the "best kept secret" of Montclair. This driving range and golf course is postage stamp size but has everything you need. The folks who runs the place is super nice. We usually just show up and rent the clubs and balls. The range is well maintained. There are two decks. The course is tiny and "okay". But it's the perfect place for a beginner to try out what playing on a course is like. We went on a Sunday morning and we were the only folks for half an hour before another twosome showed up. read more

Just be aware that when you go to pay you'll be met by a guy with the worst attitude that you can't help but let out a giggle on how you only see that kind of bad attitude at the workplace in movies. So spontaneously me and my husband decided to have a golf date. As a first timer I love that this 9 hole course was very beginner friendly! The service was great and workers are very kind here especially it being our very first time here they made sure we knew how to get started. The pricing is pretty decent considering how much it cost to go out and do things nowadays. *TIP bring cash so you don't get hit with card charges. For me personally, this place is 5/5 and I'm a regular here. TDLR: it's a dive bar with a range and small par 3. Don't expect much in amenities, but it's got a nice community. Pro's: it's a golf course/dive bar. It's no frills in both departments, but full of charm, good people, and friendly staff. If you're new to golf, the par 3 course is great to learn on or practice your chipping. I invite non golfers to play a round all the time and it's super approachable. And some staff members like Andrew are super nice. Cons: if you're used to even a decent range with new balls, a shot tracker, no cigarette butts then this place isn't for you. Simple as that. And it's a bit of a right of passage for Mr Lee to yell at you, but he's secretly a super nice guy, so don't take it personal. read more

I'm just getting into golf and have been here two times. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly and ownership is kind and accommodating and easygoing. My last visit I learned that they offer golf lessons through Marty Foster, their founder and long term golf professional who is also highly rated, here. I'm finding that golf helps me center myself and become mindful of my bodily mechanics and breath. The sport puts me in competition with myself and I can make adjustments and experience progress on a very personal and immediate scale. All that said -- I'm SUPER excited to book some lessons and get better at the game. Thank you for having such a welcoming and accessible space for everyone and anyone to participate in the sport! Oh man, looking at these reviews made me LOL. I'm giving this beloved, run down place 5 stars because it's a real gem. Be clear: this is a dive bar. Instead of an old pool table it has an old driving range with old balls, worn out mats, narrow stalls (for more swinging space go to the upper deck), and poorly marked old barrels on downsloped dirt. It also has a small, poorly sloped putting area, that might be challenging to roll your ball on because it's not smooth. And there's a dilapidated short par 3 that's stupidly fun. Personnel-worse, yes, the owner, Mr. Lee, is a trip. He's like the crazy Korean grandfather you never knew you were missing from your life. I always think of him as a comically eccentric character from the movie Caddyshack. Or the famous rude waiter from Sam Wo's restaurant in SF or the soup nazi character on Seinfeld. His preference for cash, credit card fees, and expirations on pre-paid range balls are not likely to survive legal scrutiny. But it's like the lyrics from the song Benny and the Jets: "oh their so weird but so wonderful." Mr. Lee's son Cliff is always kind and helpful as is everyone in the pro shop. They have fair prices on good gear, are knowledgeable, helpful, and it's a great local place to regrip your clubs. The bartenders have seen generations of bar flies and and are great like that. It has food. Montclair needs this place. It is Oakland. It is gritty, resilient, genuine, and every segment of our society is welcomed. You'll see newbies, old pros, young folks and old timers, construction workers after their early shifts and business people and politicians. It's not new and shiny, it's not elite, it's not fancy, but damn if you understand and accept it (be warned: that acceptance might quickly turn to love it) for what it actually is you might just see the soul (Seoul? :) of the place and look back at your weird and wonderful disappointing experience there and find yourself smiling and thinking 'dang, that place was hella fun and funny'; do that enough times and you just might find yourself becoming a a regular and feeling a need to write a long ass Yelp review to counter all the hate! :) Yeah like I said, it's a real gem. read more

For folks getting into the sport, it is not an intimidating place to practice. I do wish they had a monthly pass for ball bucket rentals, however. This place used to have a special charm about it, and I would visit weekly to have some beers with friends and work on my swing. My wife and I always told our friends that it was "a dive bar with a driving range attached", and we loved it for it's grunginess, location, and vibe. After multiple instances of getting screamed at by James (the owners son), it's lost all its charm. He is unbelievably rude and disrespectful, even to regulars (like me) that help keep his shitty range open. Now this place just feels dirty, the drinks and beyond worn-out range balls are overpriced, and they seem to do virtually zero maintenance or cleaning to any of the facilities. It really sucks that I'll have to find a new regular range to practice at, just because James is such a rude jerk. The owner was also overtly rude whenever you didn't pay him cash. I don't know what people expect. You're not going to Pebble Beach. It's a tiny little hole in the wall in Montclair district. With a little hole in the wall restaurant and bar. Which in my experience is a lot of times turns out to be the best!!. I love it. Cliff is awesome. There's nothing wrong with the balls. Fun yet challenging pitch and putt course. My fiancé and I came here to check out the double decker driving range and beginner 9 hole course. During the weekend the driving range really can fill up so be mindful of that. The spacing of the stalls also don't seem very far apart but most everyone around us was wearing masks. I enjoyed hitting off the top deck into the canyon. The matts were in good shape. They sell Tees in the shop if you want to hit off them at the range (there aren't out for everyone to use with COVID). After we hit a bucket of balls we decided to play 9. The course is deceptively hard. No hole is longer than 90 yards and all are par 3s. The holes are very narrow and packed very closely together, even with some crossing over the other ones. If it's busy balls can be flying everywhere. Also the rough is really rough so be prepared to loose balls. Overall we enjoyed practicing here, it was hard to take it too seriously. read more

I wanted a place to dial in for the off season and this place is perfect. This place is like a dive bar of golf courses. I mean that as a compliment. A warm local vibe that isn't judgey at all. The reviews on here kinda made me nervous about going but from my experience I had a great time. The green fee is $7-$9 You cannot beat that price anywhere. With that said, you also get what you pay for. This course is intended to be for beginners and to be very casual. My girlfriend has always been intimated to go golfing because of the swanky, ritzy vibe a lot of courses have but she found this place really welcoming and is now warming up to golf. Tips: bring cash, and lots of balls. Pro tip: the trees overhang the fair way in some holes so play it as a bump and run rather than flop shot. It's best not to come here. Prices keep going up, quality keeps going down. They have a sign stating that paying in cash gets you an immediate 4% discount however if you pay with a credit card you pay $4 on top??? The math clearly doesn't add up and honestly just feels like a shady business practice. If you want to charge a fee just state that there's a fee. If you want to charge more for things just raise the price. Don't put up signs saying you can get a discount and then charge people more when nothing of the sort is stated. Great place to golf if you want to come play a (very) casual round, or if you're a beginner. For $7 a round, this place can't be beat for value. While the greens are not the best, and the course very short, it's meant to be for a fun time, rather than the next aspiring Woods or Morikawa. I recommend just bringing a putter and one club (wedge or iron), and you'll be good to go. The place could definitely be cleaner, and service is subpar most of the time, which ends up in strange interactions with the staff sometimes. This review is based on their failure to enforce social distancing. I tried going to the driving range yesterday and while there were "Social Distance" signs up, there was zero enforcement. Both levels of the driving range were packed, all stalls were in use and multiple people were crowded behind the range hitters waiting their turn. Not only was it impossible to keep a 6 foot distance, it was almost impossible not to actually bump into other people at the range. This should be like a store. This place is like the dive bar of golf clubs - and we love it like that! It's SUPER low key, old school, and down market. It in no way resembles what most of us imagine when we hear the term "golf club". Adjust your expectations and you'll have fun. There's a 9-hole course that is very basic and barely maintained. There's a dilapidated 2-tier driving range that is super fun and hilarious, trying to hit garbage cans. The restaurant is really a dive bar with quite decent but very basic food, like burgers and fried stuff. The wines are "red" and "white", but the bar is actually kinda fun. It's a great place to take kids to try golf or hitting a ball. Our family and friends love it, but if you're expecting any kind of upscale amenities or elegance, forget it. This business advertises that it is "open" until 9 pm, but be aware that they are not actually open for business until this publicly advertised time. After spending the previous 8 hours in San Francisco, Walnut Creek, and then back to Oakland with wife, baby, and toddler, I couldn't wait to peacefully smack a few balls alone with my brand new set of irons to finish my Saturday night. However, after arriving at 8:34 PM, I was informed by the kind gentleman at the range counter, who works for minimum wage (in his words), that he would be fired if he allows anyone on the range after 8:30 PM. I planned to plow through a small bucket, something that can take me about 15 minutes, and requires no work or service by anyone. With multiple people still on the range, I explained that I would make sure to finish before those still out there, but this would not sway the sad, underpaid fellow. I was referred upstairs to talk with James, in charge for the night. James succinctly told me there was nothing he could do because of this brilliant policy. Perhaps I could have swayed him to let me on. But after offering double the cost of the bucket to bend this well thought out rule by 4 minutes, and after explaining the predicament, that I unfortunately assumed that golf activities would still be available 26 minutes before closing at the Montclair GOLF club, alas, I was denied a final time, "yea sorry, can't do it." Or at least that's what I think he said, but I'm not sure if I could hear him over the cacophony of noise from the 10 people still at the bar of this apparently closed golf club. One star for this establishment that manages to be a worse driving range than a bar, and that's saying something, since it's a pretty bad bar. If you like the falsely advertised business hours of an unposted and stupidly rigid rule that serves no purpose except to waste my time then go here If you like the rancid smell of ball sweat and microbiology lab that fills the air and emanates from their disgusting carpets, then go here. FYI that's mold you're smelling, and I don't know how they pass inspections. I've smelled better gum disease. I feel sorry for anyone that actually eats here. read more

It was my first time here, I let everyone who helped me know i wasn't familiar with where to go or what times they were open but still went out around 7-7:30pm, Went to play the 9 holes available and came back little after 8PM and was locked in. I wish there was a sign or someone gave us a heads up because the lights outside stay on and you cant see the club from out there. Also no one answered the phone and we couldn't find any emergency contact numbers anywhere....
