Slightly better than sports authority and bigger, but kinda far from me.

I now hate this place, I will never shop here again, I purchased my daughter a 500$ gt bike about a week ago, she was riding it outside in the street when she pulled up on the handle bars, the whole handle bar came apart, pieces went flying everywhere, my kids fell and hurt her arm, she had to go to hospital, she sprained her wrist. So then I go to the store to have them fix it for me, and they tell me that it's in manufactures hands now, I just bought this bike a week ago here, this is ridiculous, I asked the manager for the number of manufacturer and he said I don't have it, and it should be with my manual. Thanks for being helpful guy. So I now hate this place, I've spent so much money here and this is how I get treated. I will tell everyone I know to never shop here. Now I'm stuck with my kid hurt, and this broken bike, and 500$ down. It really sucks to be me, don't be like me folks and make the same mistake I did of buying at dicks. Management or anyone please call me if you can help me. 209 447 5229, the manager that denied me help was the taller Asain gentleman, with the hair that goes up in the front. He was not willing to go extra mile for me. read more

First, let me say that I dislike sports stores. I find them to have the most distasteful women's apparel, but came in because my fiance can't pass one up w/o going in...my eyes busted in an eyegasm once i walked into the women's section. the colors, the colors! all kinds of awesome colors from sizes xs to xxl. I didnt think the prices were that bad having just come off a shopping trip from San Francisco's Niketown (ooohweee - $100 for running tights?!a little bit outta my budget...a SMIDGE). The sales racks sucked. I agree right on with Jennifer O. - the sales staff weren't overly friendly, & helpful - when you can find them! And yes, the customer svc at the counter IS excellent. here's my one true blue complaint: when i was in the dressing room, there was a group of guys - maybe 3 in their early 20's - talking to one of the guy employees assigned to the area i was in i'm guessing (& the guy that let me in the dressing room). These fools were straight up in front of the fitting room when i walked in, stepped oh 5 steps to the side & continued to talk. They walked away at one point, but when i would open the door to show my fiance an outfit, oh look who was all up in front of my dressing room space. For real? They couldnt step aside to the golf section & shoot the shit over there?? Annoying. They DO have a larger women's apparel selection here than Fresno's, so I'll definitely make a point to stop by the next time i'm in the area. read more

It's 10:15 am on a Thursday .. We've been standing in the shoe department, clumsly trying to find a size in a specific style of shoes for the past 15 minutes. No help. Actually, I take that back, there is a gal roaming the shoe section with a clipboard avoiding eye contact. I guess I could use my big girl voice and words, but c'mon, where is the customer service?! We weren't even greeted on the way in. I hate this place. Every time I'm here its the same story. I definitely won't be back after today. P.S. I literally wrote this review as my friend is STILL struggling to reach the shoes on the top shelf .. and clipboard girl is still hovering in the distance, playing bob and weave from my gaze. Oh, well. read more

If i could rate the modesto store a 0 i would!! This store was the OLNY store to receive the olympic weight set with 100 miles. I called the store and asked about ordering the set and was told it was only sold on line and picked up curb side. I was On several devices and checking LITERALLY EVERY FEW MINUTES and it never came available. When i called the store i was told they were all sold out, then i look on offer up and i find several of the sets BRAND NEW in boxes selling for double the price. Seems like either the employees kept for themselves or sold to friends for profit. read more

I was in the Modesto store about a month ago and spoke to the store manager Shao who was very professional, he gave me Brain Alamano the Reginal manager's phone number, I tried contacting him for over a month requesting a call back but never received one, you would think that someone at that level of management would call you back, poor customer service on Brian's part , don't understand how he got to the position he is in now read more

Purchased a new Callaway Rogue driver for 300 bucks at dicks in modesto. The young salesman who was very polite and had me pay for the club and then he placed a new grip on the club for me. He then went to find the head cover for my new club and he said it was missing. He offered me another head over that did match my club and of course I declined that offer asking for the correct head cover . This young man brought me the manager who had the personality of a wet sponge. I was then met by the guy who stated he runs the golf department and he was very abrupt and border line rude. Someone need to come in and train all these people (including the manager) on proper interpersonal skills when dealing with customers. This place has very poor ratings and I can see why. They ordered me a new club online which I could have done myself.. read more

I agree! Racist. They were trying to accuse me of stealing, I parked in their parking lot because it was closer to the apple store at about 10am i walked through picked up my item that i ordered at the apple store walked back through to put it in my car walked back to get a Pretzel from Auntie Annes and the guy at the register with braids repeatedly kept telling me "have a good day" thinking i was suppose to feel guilty or afraid because he acknowledged me multiple times so i get to Auntie Annes and saw it was closed and they were opening in 30mins (11am) due to covid their were no seats in the mall to sit and wait so i decided to walk back to my car to sit and wait and again the employee with the braids repeats the same thing loud knowing we've seen each other already twice and i felt very uncomfortable finally 11:00 came and i walked through again to get to Auntie Annes to get a Pretzel and on my way back through their headsets he sends a employee to the front door to stand there to see if i was stealing. Im not someone who just randomly calls people and everyone racist for no reason especially with everything thats going on right now but i have no reason to steal i have a college degree and not everyone my color is the same. I have also been a member with you guys with a ScoreCard for so many years where i would receive coupons in the mail and continuously shop here and i recently moved to this area from Miami knowing that its not a lot of people of my color in the area but ever since i moved here i've never felt people treating me different or looking at me different until i walked into this store today and it hurts. I love this company and i've been shopping with you guys for so many years but i guess its not the same as the one i use to shop at in Miami. read more

I came in to buy the GSW back 2 back Tee. I like to buy most of my stuff online. I drove from out of town to come here and the people here are rude! They close at 7 today as soon as that clock hit 6:59 I had 3 employees back to back come and tell me that I had to take my stuff up to the register. That they were closed. The last person came and told me we are closed you need to take your stuff to the register now or else you can't purchase anything! Wow!! I wouldn't give this store even one star, but had to in order to post review. I went In looking to buy three pairs ladies UA running shoes. After looking for quite awhile I finally found an associate who I thought could help me. I asked her if they carried ladies UA Fortes to which she replied, "Uah, Yah, if we do they'd be over there...with a vague gesture to the racks behind her and walked away. Wow, sorry a customer interrupted your day. I was going to stop her and ask her to be more specific, but then thought better of it. If you can't be bothered to stop chomping on your gum, be professional, or wear more professional attire to your job than overly skin tight yoga pants that disappeared into the crack of your ass then I'll just shop elsewhere. My husband had equally disappointing luck in speaking with a male supervisor who couldn't be bothered to help either. He offered a, " Well, I know there's someone back there to help as he walked away. Dick's obviously doesn't need my money and I won't waste anymore of my time in their store. read more

Good selection of hunting gear and ammo, shoes and clothing. Ammo that most other store front type stores do not carry, clearance items priced good and overall selection is good. A little pricy on some items but overall fair if you don't want to wait for shipping from a cheaper online store. Also when they have it in stock you can see it and make an educated choice. Overall the staff is knowledgable, polite and helpful. The store is clean and laid out well. read more

Not as good as what Copeland Sports used to be - but since that doesn't exist anymore, I'd recommend Dicks to anyone asking about sportswear. I've never had a problem with the customer service. They've been useful anytime I asked about anything, and have stayed out of my way otherwise. The best thing about the store, in my opinion, is the putting green. It's very open, and slightly larger than the one at Sports Authority. I love the pseudo-rough that surrounds the green, you can even chip with wedges on it. All in all, I will come here again if only for the convenient location. read more

It's not often enough we can give praise, right? I was inspired to write and share my experience with Jessie. I live in the SF Bay Area, and Modesto is not close by. However, none of the local Dick's stores carried my sons' cleat size in the specific brand/model. He needed the next size up. But, the Modesto store had them. I phoned ahead before making the hour drive to the valley as we needed the cleats for the next day. I was helped on the phone by Jessie. Because there were about 8 color choices in the brand/model we wanted, Jessie took extra time to ensure the exact pair in the desired size was in-stock. He knew we didn't want to make the drive for the wrong pair. The inventory had been picked over as we were late in the season to be buying cleats. He said there wasn't much left. To my delight, Jessie followed through by placing the correct pair of cleats on hold at the Customer Service desk. They were the exact ones we wanted and in the correct size in the hold drawer with my name. We made sure they fit before purchasing and leaving. Unfortunately, Jessie wasn't available when we arrived and purchased the cleats so I was unable to thank him in person for his due diligence and attention to detail (while being incredibly thoughtful about ensuring the cleats were the correct ones so we didn't make the long drive for nothing!). My son was elated to have the right cleats for his tournament practice the next day. Thank you, Jessie! read more

They say word of mouth is a powerful thing. And the experience I recently had at the Dicks was very impressionable-not in the good way either. We purchased a pair of ($140) cleats for my son and after he tried them at practice he realized they did not fit well. I did my research on the Dicks return policy before heading back into the store for my refund and in the policy it states that they understand that sometimes athletes need to try before buying and if they are not satisfied they will offer a refund. Well when we got to the store they refused my return stating that the cleats were used (duh) and because of that wouldn't refund. I repeatedly asked them to show where in the policy it stated the sale would be final or unreturnable for reasons x,y,z and they could not. I even showed them their policy online and they still refused. Instead they continued to make up their own rules and policies contrary to what the website said. At one point the cashier (Yasmine) said in front of the Head Coach (Ron) well we cant return them because then Dicks would take a loss on these. Umm is it the business of the cashier to state company financials and does that even matter when it goes against the return policy. Well after getting no help in store I told them I was going to call Customer Service and immediately did so. The rep (Astrid) was super helpful and could not understand why the store was treating me this way as my product clearly fell within the policy for return. So I headed back into the store to find Ron with Astrid on speaker phone. Ron was very dismissive and rude the entire time. He stated that he was tone deaf and wouldn't listen to Astrid as she spoke and then said that Astrid didn't know what she was talking about in regard to the policy because she was just customer service and didn't work in the store. He then began stating that the shoes were damaged to which Astrid pointed out that in the policy it states that damaged items were also refundable. Ron finally agreed to return the cleats. I have been shopping Dicks for a long time and wont be coming back after this. I already made a formal complaint with Dicks. Upper management needs to really find out what's going on in this store as this is not the first 1 star post about the lack of professionalism and service this store gives. The policy is there for a reason-follow it! Do not make up your own rules and treat your customers with courtesy and respect. read more

Today I had the worse customer servicing experience ever. I was trying to exchange some shoes for a different size. They said they did not have the shoes in store and could only return and re buy the shoes online for whatever price was shown. They said they could not price adjust. We asked to speak to a manager and the women was so rude and very unhelpful. She asked why we waited so long to try and exchange because it was after the 30 days. It was a Christmas present and also was not past 30 days... we purchased the item on November 28th. It is December 26th..We immediately left the store and decided to call the 800 number to do the exchange instead. I am disgusted by the management staff at this location. read more

She was very rude and short with me. I was going to buy a kayak next week but they lost my business forever. I told her that and she said that she did not care. I will spend my money somewhere else. What the heck is going on in this store?! There was ONE employee for the entire shoe department (I'd say at least 12 different groups waiting on this one kid to get different shoes from the back.) It took me over an hour to pick out 2 pairs of cleats for my boys, because every time I'd get the employee to get us a new pair, it would take at least another 15 minutes to get him back over to us to try a different size or style. Dicks, if your shoe department is set up in this manner (only display shoes, no stock) you need to have the staff to support that!!! Every single customer in there around me was just as frustrated as I was. Not to mention, all the cleats my son actually wanted were not available in his size. Don't blame your employee, he was doing the best he possibly could in that crappy situation. Poor guy was being pulled in all directions. If I were him, I would've thrown my hands up & quit. Absolutely ridiculous. Not his fault at all, this is a MANAGEMENT issue & needs to be addressed. read more
