Needed a repair on our HVAC and was charged for them coming out and seeing the problem. Called someone in the morning, had someone come out to the time frame they said they would arrive. They spent about 30ish minutes, which costed about $70 (about $2.33 per minute). Noted they would come back and contact once they ordered a new part for the HVAC. They contacted back and noted would be back at the end of the week. They arrived at the time frame and day they said they would come with a different person. Overall, reliable service and got it fixed. Definitely recommend them for your HVAC needs! read more

Over the last 20 years I have used Dicks Heating Cooling several of times to fix maintenance issues with my Heil Heat Pump and Air exchange. They did a great job at an affordable price. I recently did an upgrade on the 20 year old system to a new Bosch Heat pump and exchange system. Dicks had the most comprehensive and reasonable bid. A team of 6 individuals came out and did the duct, electrical and installation work. They were in at 9:30 AM and out by 3:30 PM for a complete remove and replace. The only they did well is show up the day after I called. When the tech did review my AC problem, he was here a total of 35 minutes. Diagnosed a bad Capacitor for my AC unit and replaced it with a new unit that was not the same size and I had to provide a screw to be able to secure the new Capacitor. The charge was $600 (including tax) and could be reduced by $100 if I signed up for their annual service plan for $400 a year. I am very much against this type of pricing policy and felt like the $600 was about double what I should have paid. The Tech never told me what the approximate cost would be - he installed it and 10 minutes later, handed me the outrageous bill! When I verbally pushed back, he said, "ok, do you want me to remove it"? That's such a lousy tactic for them to pressure a customer. When my daughter called me the next day and told me her AC was not working, I said, "whatever you do, don't call Dicks - they're a ripoff". I did complain to the office and they responded by telling me the owner said, no adjustment to the billing, that's their cost. The work is done and I paid it. We have a Rental House in Issaquah, Wa and during a frigid cold snap both of our gas direct vent furnaces failed. We have had very poor experiences with other Companies with technicians with no knowledge of direct vent heating systems. This has been an ongoing problem for us. We had another earlier problem with another company that charged us a hefty service fee and then sent out a technician with no knowledge of our direct vent furnace since the knowledgeable technician was delayed on a prior job the company did a bait and swap and never fixed our furnace and we had to pay the service fee for essentially no service or repair. Fortunately Roland (Dicks Heating Technician) lives across the street from our Rental and was very experienced with our direct vent furnaces. He diagnosed the problems, order us a 1 new furnace, 1 new valve for the other furnace so heat in the house was restored approximately in 1 week. We had to wait for the part & new furnace to arrive the installation of the new furnace was excellent and so superior to the old eye sore installation. Roland was very knowledgeable, extremely helpful - we so appreciate him. The Office staff was also very helpful - we highly recommend this Company and their services. read more

I needed my Nest thermostat installed in my house on a heat pump system. I called Dick's heating in. Roland arrives, pushes on the thermostat latch, looks at the wires for 3 seconds and tells me it's not compatible and provides me the brilliant advice to call Nest to have it installed. Without further due pulls out the invoice book and start writing up his invoice for $75. He then moved on to try and sell me some product I have absolutely no use for and that has nothing to do with my actual issue. This was the most expensive 2 minutes of my life. The tech had obviously no idea how to install the thermostat and did not offer any alternative or cost estimate on what it would take to have it installed and working. So I am left with no solution, 20 minutes and $75 wasted. Avoid this company. read more

The furnace and heat pump themselves seem to be good products. However, we've had endless issues with the ducts under the house and this company refuses to accept any responsibility. This is the second time our heating bills have been through the roof because the ducts have come loose and we're heating the crawl space under the house instead of the house itself. They will find any excuse to avoid taking responsibility. I'm not sure how it could be anyone else's fault that the ducts THEY attached have come loose multiple times. It's almost as if they do it on purpose so they can come out every couple years and change us to reattach them. I know ducts aren't their main product/service but when they replace a furnace they have to reattach everything right? Unless you want to pay a company to repeatedly do the same crappy work, while wasting tons of money on heating bills, find someone else. read more

If there was a zero I would give it! Contacted Dick's heating a month ago and explained we were selling our home and our heat pump did not work and needed to be in perfect condition by 5/31. We got an appointment 2 weeks out for the only technician they had that worked on our specific brand of pump. The technician came out, started working on it, showed me that it "worked" by turning on the AC and air came out. We paid $1,200.00 for the repairs. The following Friday the new owners tried to use the heat function of the heat pump and it didn't work. I immediately called Dicks to see if they could walk us through turning on the heat pump, assuming it was operator error, but the only person that knows how to do that didn't work until the next Thursday, 6 days away! We had to make an appointment for Sat 6/1. Our closing was moved to 6/3 and thought the technician would be able to actually fix the pump like we requested a month prior.... NOPE! Now our closing is in 2 days and we have to scramble to get a new pump put in on a Sunday with 1 days notice! The technician said if we paid for the $1700 servings this would have been caught, but we were never offered any repair options, they said it was fixed and asked for $1,200.00! Update: the same night the furnace was repaired it stopped working. They came out again and told us that there was actually something ELSE wrong with it now. And that it was the motherboard. And that it was dirty and had to be cleaned. (Which he apparently didn't notice the day before when he was here fixing it or when he was here the week before estimating it.) But because they wanted to provide us "good" service, they weren't going to charge us. Oh what? You aren't going to charge me more than the $900 I already gave you to actually have it work? Thanks. And then this. See photos attached. Today I get a letter in the mail with nothing but a PREPRINTED sheet on what goes into their "flat rate". No note. Apparently this is such a common complaint they got these printed. Stationary and supplies? Taxes?? Since my invoice also charged for tax I guess I'm paying yours now? Ridiculous. I called them to see when the next time they would be able to come fix it was, but it wasnt until days later and it was FREEZING in the home. Bought a new AC system for my home in September of 2021 (man that summer was HOT). This summer (2024) right during the first heat wave, the AC went out. I called Dick's to come troubleshoot the issue, after the tech was finished he told me the AC Compressor had failed but it was under warranty and I would only have to pay for the labor...which he quoted to me at $2000. I was blown away that first off I needed to pay anything for something that was still under warranty. I was not happy with the price and got a second opinion from another company. They told after doing the diagnostic that the compressor was indeed bad, and that it was due to a poor install which caused a build up of acid in the compressor which caused it to fail. Unfortunately his quote was even higher so I was forced to use Dick's to do the work. Now, I did want to talk to a manager or the owner or somebody to understand why I was having to play $2k for something that was apparently their fault, but nobody would call me back. After waiting over 3 weeks for the part to arrive and to get a tech out, they finally fixed it. Guy showed up at 9 am and was done and on his way at 1 pm. That's 5 hours labor for $2000 which works out to $400 an hour for the labor. Now here's the fun part, I'm a licensed O6 Electrician in the state of Washington, which is exactly what the tech was that showed up to do the work. I know for a fact that those guys at best, in the union, make like $43 an hour plus benefits, lets call it $60. So Dick's gets $340 an hour from their tech's work. Man, I'm in the wrong business! So, final review, Do NOT use this company for anything. They are going to do work that is apparently going to cause your systems to fail, then charge you a ridiculous labor charge to come fix their mistake. read more

Loretta was the rudest person on the phone ever . They stated they called to cancel our appointment again because of someone calling out, my husband is 64 and tells me the only one nice on the phone was Susan. That he was treated rude several times now . I called several other reputable plumbing services and their quote price was the same price we payed, so again not sure where or what this "discount" she spoke of was. Payed with my debit card they had no card reader or anyway to accept payment so they wrote my card number down, invoice was shoddy. The service technicians that installed our water heater could not answer any questions my wife had and one of them cut his hand and left blood on our water heater. I have been using dicks now for about 10 years. I got hooked in with a plan where if you did services for 5 years you have free services for the rest of the time you're in your home. Bad service.I thought that they actually came out and serviced your unit. But the only thing they do take a couple readings. And then try to high pressure sell you another brand new unit or equipment. So once a year I get someone to come over and tell me that I need a new air conditioning unit it's just basically a sales tactic. If I had to do all over again I wouldn't do it. Don't recommend it. Every technician has been knowledgeable, courteous, and on site as scheduled. Our original heat pump had lots of problems and lasted just 10 Years. In 2005 Dicks Heating & AC installed a new Armstrong heat pump and we have them do yearly maintenance or when called. We had one situation where the housing filled with ice and Dicks came out late, put some heater blowers on the unit and came back the next morning to access and fix the problem and only charged for one house call. Equipment wears out and in January 2017 we had to replace a defrost board plus had other equipment judged close to crashing so Dicks gave me an estimate on cost to replace the heart pump but my call. Technician had concerns but confident he had serviced best he could and we could chose to keep running. Same technician serviced our unit in 2018 and 2019 and we remain trouble free. When our heat pump gives up I will definitely go to Dicks Heating & AC for a replacement and maintenance! read more

I used this service in 2003, when I owned my first house. They came highly recommended. I had an insurance policy that covered repairs, and so I asked the technician to let me know before he started work. I finally went down when he didn't come up, and he brushed me off, saying the work was only going to be around $100. It was twice as much, and the insurance wouldn't pay any of it since they weren't contacted ahead of the work. I wrote the company, then called when I didn't hear back. The woman answering the phone was rude and basically said, too bad, not their problem. And the heater wasn't even fixed until the following Monday. Technician was great. It was the price. What a rip off. It was Christmas Eve and we had no heat. I was between a rock and a hard spot. Dicks charged 1,112.55 for a Ignitor and a Gas Valve. Took him 10 minutes to install. I can get the same parts for under 150.00 on Amazon. 962.55 in labor charges is just not right. Any other day I would've fixed myself. This was my second experience with Dick's. First one, they tried to replace a furnace that didn't need replacing. This one they tried to replace a circuit board that didn't need replacing. Technician came out and left no evidence of the work he did. No sticker, no checklist, not even an invoice. I had to take time off work for them to come out again. In his report he cited: "intermittent problem with circuit board" - $753 to fix. I did some homework, the board costs $78 at Gensco. I also got a second opinion and company B found NO issues. I called Dick's out to the residence to provide a full inspection report, and while on second trip out there, he was unable to duplicate the issue. The response I got was: "well....it COULD come up again....maybe in 3 months, maybe in 3 years." But we're going to go ahead and leave it on the report. Turns out that techs get kickbacks for selling parts. No wonder! At those prices I'd want to sell parts too. read more

Worst customer service ever. Last year they came out and was late for there "window of time" eta arrival. They showed up close to 6 pm well beyond the 3-5pm window. Tech hurried the inspection and told me to call customer service to reschedule a new appointment because it was too late to service in the dark. I called in to customer service to voice my frustration. Then to come to find out they were going to charge me another fee to come out. Ridiculous. I have several investment propertiea. I was given a 10% "discount" then after my services were completed presented with there "flat rate price" plus tax. I thought the bid included the tax and when I called to inquire about why I was presented this price the office staff was very condescending about the law says you have to pay taxes. I had Dick's Heating and Air Condition come to our home to clean the blower motor, belts and surrounding area. During the cleaning process the technician noted that the run capacitor for the blower motor was beginning to fail and could ruin the blower motor. He showed me the capacitor since the furnace was opened up and quoted me a price of $116.00 on top of the $160.00 for the cleaning. I asked for the old capacitor and went online to verify the cost of a capacitor with the same specs. The cost online was between $7.55 and $12.00. When I questioned the price with Loretta a manager at Dick's Heating and Air Conditioning and she checked with Bret Lauritzen the owner. He determined that that cost was correct based on 35+ years in the business, but they could offer me a $20.00 discount on the whole bill. I am NOT happy and would NOT recommend Dick's Heating and Air Conditioning to anyone. read more

After years of using Dicks Heating to service my fairly new (2009) Lennox Forced Air furnace and heat pump system on an annual service plan, I put their service to the test the other day and much to my disappointment, they failed - miserably! Last Friday, I woke up to a strange smell coming from the vents and a very cold house. Now, this just happened to coincide with a nasty cold-snap in Tacoma - low 30's at night - so I thought to myself, "Cool, I've got a Service Plan with Dicks so I don't have to wait for Emergency Service! No Problemo!" Although I had been lead to believe that plan customers received prioritization over other customers, a service tech could not be sent until late Saturday. But we're from Canada - we can handle the cold, right? The service tech finally arrived just before dinner on Saturday. After a while where fumbling and head-scratching were the order of the day, he finally found the problem. A dead variable speed control module that bolts onto the end of the furnace motor. The bad news = $874 + tax to order a replacement part and install. I was assured it would be here on Tuesday. What's three more nights without heat? Let me tell you, it gets MIGHTY cold in a big house with no furnace when it drops below freezing outside! On Sunday morning I raced to Home Depot and bought some space heaters and for the next few days and nights moved them from room to room to keep everyone from freezing! So, Tuesday comes. And I'm waiting for the technician to call me and give me the good news that he would be right over and we would again have HEAT! The call comes and the technician informs me that 1) the part would be nearly $1,200!!! and 2) he had taken a few days off and they would order the part that day. That meant at least another two or three days without heat! Are you KIDDING me?? What kind of service process is this that allows a customer to wait 'another few days' for heat just because someone decides they need some vaycay?? And then, I have to admit, I got a little angry. Not while I was on the phone, mind you. While I was surfing the internet a few minutes later and found, QUICKLY - I mean with NO problem - the exact part for my Lennox furnace, from a Lennox Parts distributor for just over 300 bucks! With a bit more searching, I found another supplier where the part was available for just over $200! I could buy an entire replacement blower motor and speed controller for just over $500! With next day delivery! For free! Now, I'm a business man. I've been in the corporate world all my life. I understand mark-up and margins and profit but REALLY!!!??? Charging $1,200 for a $200 part + 20 minutes of installation time??? I had to talk to someone! I called Dicks and asked for a Service Manager. I'll tell you what! They certainly need a refresher course in dealing with a frustrated and informed customer! I confess, I asked some pretty challenging questions like, "Just how much mark-up does your company think is reasonable?" and "Why was the part not ordered so it could be installed today as promised?" and the clincher, "In these days of internet access, don't your customers realize that you are ripping them off?" Then the Service Manager said she would have to talk to the other Service Manager and have her call me back. Later. In the cold. "Today?" I asked. "I think so," she replied. The next Service Manager had obviously taken a course in 'How to Deal with Upset Customers Through Condescension and Avoidance' since I got less out of the this conversation than the first. I did find out that they are NOT used to dealing with Customers that can ask leading questions! An example: Me "What amount of mark-up does your company charge on this type of service call?" She "Well, I can't tell you that because we use a flat-rate system for service calls." Me "So this quote covers parts and labor?" She "Yes. Parts and labor." Me "So, you must input the parts cost into your computer and it gives you the Parts and Labor total?" She "Yes." Me "Cool. Just tell me the parts cost then since you must know it. You just said you input that number into the computer." She Silence. "I'm sorry sir, but I only know the total amount that includes Parts and Labor." I told her about the places I found on the internet where I could purchase the part from a Lennox dealer for 80% less than their quote. I told her that I understood that making a reasonable margin on the service is a perfectly fine. But I also told her that they were a bunch of bandits if they thought that charging 600% mark-up was an ethical and durable business practice! Then I cancelled the Work Order. And I cancelled my Service Plan. Now my adventure moves onto the next phase. I'm going to order the part myself. I'm going into this business! If the bandits at Dicks can so unabashedly practice such highway robbery with no blow-back, it sure seems like a great way to get rich! (Unless I get electrocuted in the process!) read more

He carefully reviewed what we wanted the new furnace to do, measured the air flow and cooling system we wanted to add, and provided us with 3 different options. We chose the Coleman heater and heat pump option. It's been 3 years now and we are very happy with the system. The air flow is fantastic. I had to call a few places, but this company was AWESOME! They showed up withing an hour of me calling. The service repair man was VERY friendly, knowledgeable, kind and helpful. With a new hot water heater, install, warranty and maintenance plan, it was still $1,000 cheaper than the other bids I got. They have coupons online to use for service calls and installations. They are 24/7 and don't charge extra for nights and weekends too! You can even schedule a service call online. I definitely would recommend them - don't bother calling anyone else - seriously! On December 15th, 2017 I had one of Dick's Heating and Air Conditioning technicians to our house to fix my Trane XR80 furnace, installed by Dick's 8 1/2 years ago, because it stopped providing heat. It was determined that the control unit had shorted out and needed to be replaced at a cost of $731.55 plus tax or replace the furnace at a cost of $3,600 plus tax. I expressed my concern about the seemingly excessive high price for either choice with the technician but because we were expecting 10 Vietnam Era veterans and their spouses for a Holiday Fellowship lunch at Noon that same day I was left with no choice but to have, at least, the module replaced by the technician. This unexpected cost certainly put a "crimp" on our Christmas spending since we are senior citizens on fixed incomes. Two days later and wanting to get other estimates to compare pricing for the same service, I went on-line and received quotes from two other professional and seasoned Heating and AC companies in the Tacoma area and the cost for the same service including the replacement module for them to do it was between $225.00 including labor plus tax and $335.00 labor inclusive plus tax. On further internet "surfing" I discovered that the cost of the part ranged between $109.00 and $145.00. With an approximate $75-$100 markup that meant that I was charged an additional $400.00 + tax by Dick's. Compared to Dick's pricing for the same service, I feel Dick's should refund me $435.00 to resolve this issue. This amount is based on subtracting the higher of the two other companies' estimates, $335.00 + 10.1 % tax @ $33.83 or $368.84 from $804.70 tax inclusive which I paid for Dick's service. A certified letter to the President of the company providing all related documents was sent to Dick's and received by them on January 9th given him 10 days to contact or respond to me with my refund.
