Dick's Drive-Ins are multi-generational burger spots in the Seattle area for my family. On my birthday this year, the 26th of August, I decided I wanted to try this location, the Dick's Drive-In Edmonds location, for dinner. I had not yet visited so I was eager to have some fries, burger, and a milkshake at the still relatively new location. We, my mom, my dad, and I, arrived a little before 5 p.m. on a Wednesday. There were lines, but none too long. Distances were marked out on the ground leading up to the windows where one walks up and places one's order as to where to stand and maintain a safe distance from those around you. Masks were also required in the line and order placing/pick-up area, not in the parking lots though. The area where additional protective gear, face masks at this point in time, is required is clearly marked off with a sign informing customers that masks are required. My dad and I got in line and didn't wait too long before placing our order. When we visited the location they did not have change, which was clearly posted by the order placing/pick-up windows along with a variety of different payment options. We placed our order, got the milkshakes and rootbeer first, then the special burgers (specials), cheeseburgers, and fries. The workers were focused and respectful in their interactions. After getting our food and drinks we headed back to the car where mom was patiently waiting for us and chose to eat in the parking lot. We all enjoyed our food and it was as delicious as we all remembered! I got the special burger, fries, and a strawberry milkshake, my mom got the special burger, fries, and a vanilla milkshake, and my dad got two cheeseburgers, fries, and a rootbeer. Soooo tasty, sooo good! Downed it all in a quick minute it was so good. The fries especially hit the spot. They are the good kind of greasy fries that are finger-licking good. I can't believe I was here on a referral, some say I'm a food snob, most would disagree but one thing they'd all agree on is that I appreciate good quality food and decent service... it was quick, that's the only redeeming quality about this joint.. and some true blooded Americans will eat this and smile, maybe even come back for more, but bottom line, it's not my taste. From the wet, limp and greasy fries to the ... burger, I got the best on the menu the "Super-Poly-RazzmaTazz" 1/4 pound or whatever first the almost fresh bun was glued on by some orange goo that may have been used to pretend it was orange cheese, then 2 very sad and thin discs of what only could be confused with meat, I thought a tomato might help here but I'm sure, as you could tell, it's too far gone and "just stay away" is my official take away, people that eat here, hate food, hate eating, hate life and fuzzy puppies probably fluffy kittens and everything else but it's quick and (the second star) the ambience, helps them pretend that America used to be this way and that somehow makes it worth it.. for me, I'd rather skip a meal than to have concrete stomach again read more

I didn't grow up in Washington and had Dicks for the first time in my life on a Thursday after midnight. The service was great and I love that the staff just grabs you the food right after you order. I got to try the cookies and cream shake, hamburger, and cheeseburger which were all delicious for a midnight snack. In the interest of full disclosure I worked for Dick's Drive ins as a night manager which finanancilly made it feasible for me to attend and graduate from the U. I knew Warn Gormley and I have been a huge fan of Dick's since 1970. Great fast food from high quality supply sources prepared carefully by well trained staff. My favorite is the cheese, coke 'n' fries combo which I lived on during my college years. I made wonderful friends and met interesting folks on both sides of the grill, had fun and got paid for doing it! A free meal, fair pay and an opportunity to work nights and go to school during the day...what could be better! I owe a great debt of gratitude to the organization. As a proud former employee I am proud to say, it's still a fine fast food value. My wife and I had lunch at this newer restaurant in Edmonds yesterday and we were not disappointed. I've only been to Dick's twice in my life, including tonight. I know that the menu has been the same for decades, but unfortunately I don't eat hamburgers (Just chicken), so the only things I've ever gotten here are fries, a chocolate shake and a root beer. Tonight I was hungry, but not enough to eat a full meal. I made an unplanned stop here and it turns out that fries and a chocolate shake, while not at all nutritious, was just enough. For $3 I expected a bigger shake, but the total bill was under $8, which compared to other places like Chick Fil A and Port of Subs, is a bargain. The service was friendly and I was able to park pretty close to the walk up window. I will keep this place in mind if I'm ever in the mood for a snack. I wish they had chicken or something else on the menu, but I get it. Tradition is not something to be messed with. read more

I grew up on Capitol Hill (Seattle) so I know what the Dick's on Broadway would deliver in the 70's and 80's. What happened? Today I went to the Edmonds location after a few years of hiatus due to a bad experience last time. Even worse now. The french fries were a big nasty softball of oil and spongy potatoes. Disgusting. The Special burger was basically a hamburger with a thin layer of mayo lettuce. Used to be in the old days that burger would stand proud and deliver, with crunchy lettuce not some nasty, soggy, old lettuce. I doubt there was even relish on the burger. Safe bet is a simple hamburger. Around 2016 things went downhill. Now they are putting out crap in the hope that no one notices. Even their simple cheeseburgers lack any hint of palate interest. So sad. It's like wishing Pizza Pete on Broadway was still around. I am done with Dick's Drive-In. It's an old sick cow in the pasture now. Stopped here on a busy Friday night, was able to get my order taken quickly and my food as well. All I ordered was a cheeseburger, deluxe and a chocolate shake. Get back in my car and make my way down to Seattle when I realize they've given me fries instead of the cheeseburger. California In & Out person... and I really liked this place. Fries were pretty similar in taste and texture. I wouldn't call them soggy like most reviewers here. I'm not a fan of no customizations. I've never heard of a place that you can't even ask for no mayo I hate mayo, but I trusted yelpers and ordered the deluxe anyway. It had a ton of flavor and didn't even have mayo taste! At the same time, my child typically orders a double, but definitely wouldn't want the add ons of deluxe so went with cheeseburger... had to deal with crying about the mustard she doesn't want on her burger... but after I said she could have some milkshake after she finished her burger, her burger disappeared! Dick's Drive-In is by far the best in the Pacific Northwest for Burgers and Fries. They have hand dipped milkshakes in three flavors, chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry. They still serve ice cream by the scoop in a variety of flavors on a cone or in a cup and you can even get a Sundae topped with your favorite flavor. I think you can still order a Rootbeer Float here also! Some people don't like the Dick's french fries and say they are too limp or greasy. They are fresh cut and you can watch them bring prepared from the time they are cut and soaked in big tubs of water to eliminate the starch before they are deep-fried. I've been enjoying their burgers and fries since I was a kid. It's a Seattle locals thing I guess. It's kind of like people who enjoy In-N-Out Burger from California. read more

This was my first time coming to the Dick's at the Edmonds location. I'm originally from California and knew moving to Washington that Dicks was the "In-and-Out" for the PNW. During COVID things location was very responsible in marking the lines with spots for social distancing and roofs so you wouldn't have to wait in the rain for your order. Parking was hard to find. They offer gift card options. The menu is simple and of good quality. If you need a crunchy fry this is not the place for that... these seems to be more hand cut and about speed ...they are more soft than firm. Probably one of my go to place if I'm around partying in Snohomish county area after a late night. I would usually stop by here and grab one of their milkshake, fries, and their deluxe burger. Service is fast!!! Usually it's pretty busy here but it's good to see different crows and people waiting in line. You might see people getting arrest, doing weird shit and etc. People compare this to "In & Out"? Okay... every state have their own special chain burger chain. This place never fails to fill a late night crave with their amazing fresh, hand cut fries and milkshake. Some think Dick's fries are similar to Five Guys but being a self-proclaimed French fry connoisseur, I beg to differ. Dick's fries are just BOMB! They are a thinner cut and just seem to melt in your mouth and... no matter what time I order them, they are always hot and fresh. Simply delicious... As for the burgers, I was diagnosed with a gluten allergy a couple years ago and oh how I miss Dick's cheeseburgers and Dick's Deluxe. The Dick's Deluxe was just filled with ooeey gooey cheese, their secret sauce (maybe similar to thousand island?? IDK!) and it was always so yummmmm. Dick's does not take custom orders so the dream of ordering a Deluxe bunless is out the window for me. In the past, Dick's was 'cash only' but now take cards for convenience purposes. This location is in a prime location smack on Highway 99. They have a huge parking lot. The customer service is always great and even if the lines are long, they move pretty fast and you never wait long. Cool little spot, and decent burger for a decent price. Friend told me this place was better then in and out , so I had to try it out. It was super soft and made fresh, basically right in front of you. The size of the burger was actually perfect where it doesn't intimidate you lol. With tomatoe and chopped lettuce , cheese, and two patties. I ordered two deluxe for myself as usual. Got 3 orders of fries also. The fries was soggy, but I actually like my fries soggy. You just drive up, park and walk to the open windows too order. It had a old school classic feel to the whole spot. You see People in line , then heading to their cars to eat their burgers. To compare this to in and out, I would say they both have their own good things about them. I like the bread at Dick's better. I like in and out sauce And the chilli peppers. Usually along Hwy99 north of 205th/King to Snohomish County line/Shoreline to Edmonds, what becomes apparent are the multitude of Asian businesses and restaurants. But there is a welcomed local business that heard the call to have a north end location, it's Dick's Drive In. I've been to all Seattle locations, but it is awesome to have one in Edmonds. This location is adjacent to the giant WinCo grocery store. Most of the burger joints in the north end are all the usual big chains. The usual order includes cheeseburgers, chocolate shakes, fries, and once in awhile it's all about the hot fudge sundae....vanilla ice cream with hot fudge! Fast, friendly customer service too. They have straightforward, no frills grub, supports their staff and community groups, takes cash and cards, and open until 2am. read more

I grew up in Washington and remember coming to dicks once as a teen and being so upset they wouldn't take the mayo off a burger. I. Hate. Mayo. So, after living on the east coast for 12 years and recently moving back, we decided to give it another try. Here are the things we learned... They still will not remove mayo from their burgers. They won't change anything. BUT they've added more things to the menu, like cheeseburgers that don't have mayo(just ketchup and mustard), which made me happy! Their fries are not good. They are limp and soggy and not hot. We will skip those next time. Lines are long but move quickly! Because of the no changing of anything, they just pump burgers out, which makes the line move super quick! The shakes are good. No straws needed as they aren't too thick. It's inexpensive. Three burgers(two specials and a cheeseburger), two sets of fries and three shakes cost right around $20. So, it is what it is. A Washington staple, cheap burger joint that doesn't care if your teenager hates mayo. The menu expansion will have us back a few more times before we move away again. read more

First, let me say, I'm a fan of Dick's. A gourmet burger it is not. But for what they are, a relatively inexpensive fast food burger chain, the burgers are ok. The fries range from very good to disappointing, depending upon how soggy they are. My biggest complaint - and I hope Dick's management reads this - is that you don't need to use every part of a head of lettuce. There are some really distasteful portions of lettuce - in particular, the thick white ribs - that when one gets a big hunk of that in the burger, it ruins the taste. So please, be a little more selective in terms of the parts of the head of lettuce you use. Just the green leaves only would be much appreciated. read more
