Dickey's Barbecue Pit

After landing at Myrtle Beach International Airport, my friend and I headed straight to Simply…read moreSouthern Smokehouse for lunch--and it was the perfect way to experience Southern hospitality. If you're looking for authentic Southern comfort food rather than another seafood buffet, Simply Southern Smokehouse is one of Myrtle Beach's best-known local favorites. The restaurant offers an all-you-can-eat buffet featuring a wide variety of home-style classics in a casual, family-friendly atmosphere. One of its most charming traditions is that the staff periodically break into song, creating a warm, welcoming experience that's uniquely Southern. The buffet changes daily, but during our visit it featured an impressive selection including crispy fried chicken, fried pork chops, pulled pork barbecue, smoked chicken legs, collard greens, green beans, cornbread, banana pudding, soft-serve ice cream, and peach cobbler. The fried chicken was outstanding--crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside--and the pulled pork was tender and flavorful. Personally, I tend to prefer barbecue with a deeper, smokier profile, so while I enjoyed the pulled pork, this is better described as a traditional Southern buffet than a destination for smoked barbecue. The homemade desserts, especially the peach cobbler, provided the perfect ending to the meal. The value is exceptional, especially considering the variety and quality of the food. The staff was genuinely friendly, and the singing added a fun, memorable touch that made the restaurant feel more like a community gathering than just another buffet. I also appreciated the thoughtful gesture of complimentary pocket New Testament Bibles available for guests near the entrance. If you're visiting Myrtle Beach and want to experience classic Southern cooking at a reasonable price, Simply Southern Smokehouse is well worth a visit. Come hungry, expect hearty comfort food rather than competition-style barbecue, and you'll likely leave satisfied.

Sabrina cheerfully pointed out some of her favorites and we were happy she did! We ordered nachos with homemade chili for an appetizer and they were huge! For our entrees we ordered a Fried Flounder Platter and the Nawlins Chicken. The flounder had a few bones so that caused some apprehension. Although both entrees were good, the real show stopper was the side salad! Following Sabrina's recommendation, we all ordered with their house dressing and the most delicious croissant we ever ate. Since I was visiting the city, and this place had such high reviews, I decided to give this place a try. First of all, staff is friendly, and the menu is straight forward. My frugal meter wasn't disturbed by the pricing at all. They are pretty reasonably priced consider the cost of food now and days. My issue is that I'm from New Orleans. Many consider my city the definition of food flavor town. Taste is very important in Creole and Cajun cooking. You may actually like this place and frequent here, but I wouldn't break my neck to go to this place. Texture wise, things were fried well and cooked to appropriate levels for me. The cornbread did not have sweetness and was very hard. Overall, much of my food didn't have a flavor pow. Chicken, ribs, yams, beans, and okra all needed love. Were is the seasoning? The food was prepared by someone that can cook, but honestly, it tasted healthy. I don't want healthy versions of soul food. I want to eat candied yams and worry about my sugar levels later. I want to eat different meats and wonder what season blend was used. It's things like this that makes me not rank this place higher. You had a little flavor in the gravy and rice. One big exception to the rule: The peach cobbler was DELICIOUS! Whomever made the peach cobbler should fix all the food. The flavor was hitting. The crust was firm but very forgiving to the utensil. This place will be gold for many people. For me, it was an average dining experience. Bring cash. They prefer cash, and your bill will be lower because of that fact.

The employees were nice and I heard the cashier telling someone it was her family's business. It's not decorated fancy , but the dining room is clean and has honest bbq. I got the Pulled Pork Plate with 2 Sides and a Sweet Tea. I also ordered an extra side. If you're a Veteran like me , your drink is free. The Pulled Pork was tasty and a good portion and they give you a bun even though you didn't order a sandwich you have bread to go with it. I ordered Hush Puppies as my bread , but still ate the top bun with my meal. Hush Puppies were pretty good when warm , my last one when it cooled down then tasted a little oily so eat them while they're hot. Usually I get a Pulled Pork Sandwich instead of a platter and have Slaw on it. Well I got a side of Slaw and it was Mayo style , not Vinegar style and I didn't like it. The young lady let me replace them with the Beans and they were very good. Potato Salad was average , I like a little more mustard in mine. Now for the BBQ Sauces. They have 5 BBQ Sauces which is a good variety to have. I liked the Hot , Vinegar , and Rob Sauce the most. For Pulled Pork I found if you mix the Hot and Vinegar Sauces it worked the best. If I would've had Brisket then the Rob Sauce would be my pick for it. The Mild was okay , but I prefer more of a kick. The Mustard Sauce was weak and not tangy enough and I usually like a good mustard sauce sometimes on pulled pork , but prefer the vinegar. Sweet tea ok , not too sweet like some places. Overall it's a well rounded bbq place. My total with tax was $19.70 with my free Veteran's drink , pulled pork platter and 3 sides. I would like to come back and try the Brisket next time. I would recommend you giving it a try and support a local family business.

Dirty Myrtle Wing Company - We Found Our New Favorite Wing Spot!…read more I had been hearing a lot about the great wings at Dirty Myrtle Wing Company, and we finally got the chance to give them a try. We stopped at the Myrtle Beach location and ordered their 20-wing special, which allowed us to choose four different sauces or flavors. Helen got five wings with teriyaki sauce and five with garlic Parmesan, while I went with dry rubs on my 10 wings. We have been eating wings for years at restaurants throughout Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina, but we had never found anything that compared to the wings at Quaker Steak & Lube before they closed in Richmond, Virginia. Well, we finally found something even better! The wings at Dirty Myrtle Wing Company were outstanding, and we were excited to discover our new favorite wing spot. A week later, we stopped by their Socastee location after hearing that their smash burgers were also worth trying. Helen ordered one and absolutely fell in love with it! We aren't sure what kind of sauce they use on their burgers, but whatever it is, it was wonderful. Since we had tried the bone-in wings during our first visit, I decided to try the boneless wings this time. They had excellent flavor, although I thought they were a little on the dry side. Perhaps a minute less in the fryer would have made them even better. Regardless, we were both very happy with our meals. One of the other highlights of our experience was meeting Troy, the owner, and his better half while they were having lunch at the Myrtle Beach location. We had a really good conversation with them. We later ran into Troy again at the Socastee location, which tells me he is very hands-on with his business. He comes across as a genuinely down-to-earth guy who takes an interest in what he does. We also heard they are starting a food truck, and we will definitely be keeping an eye on their Facebook pages to see when they make it to Conway! If you're a fan of great wings or a delicious smash burger, Dirty Myrtle Wing Company is definitely worth checking out. We are thrilled to have found them and look forward to many more visits!

Street parking is limited, but we got lucky and found a spot close by. When we went in, we asked to sit at the bar, which was empty at the time, and we were able to watch the football game. The bartender greeted us quickly and took our drink order while we looked over the menu. We noticed the pimento cheese appetizer and asked how it was. The bartender recommended the jalapeño version and suggested getting pork rinds instead of crackers, mentioning we could do a half order of the pork rinds, so we went with that. For our meal, we shared the two-meat plate with brisket and ribs, and chose mac and cheese and beans as our sides. The appetizer came out sizzling and popping, which looked great. The pork rinds were just okay. Personally, I would have preferred them cut thinner and simply salted instead of seasoned with BBQ seasoning. The pimento cheese wasn't my favorite -- there wasn't much pimento, and even with jalapeños it wasn't spicy. I wouldn't order it again. When our food arrived, everything looked good. I started with the mac and cheese -- it was decent but lacked the crispy, browned cheese topping. The beans looked excellent, but once I started chewing them, they seemed undercooked and too firm. When I mentioned it to the bartender, I was told that's how they're supposed to be, but I think they would be better cooked a bit longer to soften them up. The brisket was very moist and had good flavor, but it was only lukewarm. I asked if the meat is always served that way, and the bartender explained that it's smoked and then kept warm. We were expecting pork ribs but received beef ribs instead. They were good, the bones were large and the meat was very hard on the outside but tender under neither. They were brushed with sauce to look great. We did look at dessert -- they looked very good and the portions are large. The peanut butter pie in particular looked great, but it's definitely big enough for three people. Overall, we were disappointed. The sides and meats were only lukewarm, and when we brought it up, we were told that's just how the food is served there. Unfortunately, it wasn't for us, and we likely won't be back. There's so many other places in Myrtle to try.

Shortly after arriving, my mother and sister came out of the restroom and noticed they were getting stared at by multiple servers and even some customers. One interaction really stood out. An older server with brown hair was walking by carrying waters. My sister smiled, apologized, and politely stepped out of her way. Instead of acknowledging her, the server gave her a very cold stare and continued walking without saying a word. It immediately made the atmosphere feel uncomfortable. The server assigned to our table, a blonde woman wearing a white bow, wasn't welcoming either. From the moment she greeted us, she never smiled and seemed like she just wanted to get through the interaction as quickly as possible. Throughout our meal, she never once came across as warm or friendly. As for the food, it was good overall, but all of our steaks were a bit salty, especially my mother's. To the manager's credit, they replaced the steaks, and I appreciate that they tried to make it right. The replacement steak was a little undercooked, but we chose not to say anything else because, by that point, we already felt uncomfortable and didn't want to make the situation any more awkward. The part that made us feel the most uneasy happened while we were paying. Our server kept looking over at us very intensely. Two other servers standing nearby, one printing our receipt while talking with another employee, also continued looking over at us. Whether intentional or not, it made us feel very uncomfortable. Another thing we noticed was that one of the songs being played in the restaurant contained a racial slur, which didn't help the atmosphere. I'm only sharing what my family personally experienced. I can't speak to anyone's intentions, but we genuinely left feeling unwelcome. If you're a person of color or Hispanic, I would simply say to be aware that this was our experience. Because of the service, the uncomfortable atmosphere, and the issues with the food, I'm giving this location 2 stars.

Back to the burger as that's the reason we went there I was told best burger they ever had well I have had better burger at Sonic and if it says bacon burger you get bacon. Tourists beware
