Appliance repair called in for a leaky washer. The Dick Van Dyke tech showed up, and did absolutely nothing, and then said I owed them $94. So I asked the tech, since I had 5 year full warranty, that this should be covered? He said he wasn't sure, and left. I mean what is a 5 year warranty supposed to be anyway? They sent a bill to my former address and then supposedly tried to call me. Then I receive a collections notification in the mail (to the correct address) from the company. I have made thousands of dollars in appliance purchases from this company, and this how they treat a long time customer? This company is an absolute nightmare to deal with. On 8/21/26, I requested a service call for a refrigerator that was not cooling. The technician diagnosed that the fan needed to be replaced. As he was leaving, I asked if he would be ordering the part that day because we needed a working refrigerator asap. He said he would order the part as soon as he got to his truck, which was literally 20 steps away, and it would arrive in approximately one week. After 3 weeks, I called their office to inquire about the part; they could find no record of the part being ordered. The service office said they would order the part and it would arrive in one week. The service office called a week later to tell me that they ordered the wrong part and they would order the correct part right away. I had been without my refrigerator for a month at this point. On 9/28 a technician came to install the "correct" part. As of 10/01, the refrigerator is still not cool, the freezer items are starting to melt and the fan has not been running. I have been a month and a half without a working refrigerator. These people are so unbelievably incompetent. They have cashed my check for $365.00 and I still have no working refrigerator. I have owned an 8 unit apartment building for 20 years, with 8 refrigerators, 8 stoves and 8 dishwashers. I have always called Dick Van Dyke but I will never call them again. Unfortunately, for this repair I was not able to get the only competent technician they have because the service call was needed on a Friday. read more

We purchased a freezer, from Dick Van Dyke four years ago. It malfunctioned, quit holding temperature, so we called the Springfield store asking what our options were. I thought they would want to sell me a new one. Nope, they said I should repair it. Not only did they say we should have it repaired, they said it was likely under warranty, They came out, checked a few things, found the problem, ordered a new part, came back a week later, installed the new part, and didn't charge us a dime. bought a new dryer almost $1600 and they delivered and setup the unit - they removed the old unit - they saw that the old unit hand a left swing door and the one they set was a right swing door - they never ask in the store or at installation if the door would need reversed - when called and told that the swing was incorrect they said that we should have told them when we bought the unit - i believe it is the salesman job to ask and find out the information - then when brought up to them they want to make an additional charge for something that should have been part of the setup and delivery of the unit in the first place - i will find some other place to by appilance in the future as i will need something in the future owning 15 rental properties - i do not recommend them as their followup is terrible as is the attitude of the staff read more

It's shocking that this company has deteriorated so much in 20 years. I see that there's 87 reviews on Yelp averaging 1 1/2 stars. I purchased a new dishwasher for my daughter's condo before Christmas - the installer came and said they had to hire a carpenter to install it. They reduced yesterday and refused to install, again saying she had to remove flooring or raise the counter to to install. I contacted the Champaign store today and spoke with Jim, our sales guy. He said they can't do the carpenter work necessary to make it work. Further, he said that they encounter this all the time - I asked for a solution where they work with craft and trades people they know, to get it done and bill me. He refused, I suggested he take an hour and talk with his team to find a solution rather than lose the deal - he said whatever and hung up. Don't bother working with them, go after big box stores, geta better price, and hire a company to install ... and let them go out of business - they don't deserve your time or money. read more

To start on a positive note, I thought that the tech (David) did a great job on my laundry machine repair and gave me an honest assessment and estimate; I didn't think the cost of repair was unreasonable. The biggest issue that I had to deal with was trying to get a repair appointment scheduled. When my appointment was scheduled for a Tuesday, I called the scheduling number and explained that I would not be available until the afternoon and asked if I could have a late-day slot; I was told that appointment times cannot be made in advance. On the day of the repair, I received a text that the tech would arrive before 10:00 AM; I again called and asked if I could be moved to a later time, but was told that this was not possible. I had no choice but to reschedule for Friday and to take a personal day from work, as I could not predict what time the repair might be scheduled for. On Friday at 8:00 AM, I received a call stating that my appointment was cancelled and needed to be rescheduled again; I explained that I had taken the entire day off of work and asked if another tech could come complete the simple repair job. I was told that this was not possible, but that I could choose either a morning or afternoon time slot for my next appointment to better accommodate my schedule-- this was despite being told twice previously that appointment times could not be scheduled in advance. The whole scheduling process was just an overcomplicated headache that made me waste an entire personal day from work for no reason. While the repair was eventually made and I did feel it was largely reasonable, I'm not sure that I'll utilize Dick Van Dyke again in the future. read more

I ordered Bosh dishwasher on 04/16/22. Have been told that delivery will take close to 9 months (back ordered). I and sales person agreed on the 12/05/22 Than they called in December of 2022 and asked for delay (still don't have any in stock). Gave them 4 more months. When time run out, went to the store an have been told that they do not know when they will have it. I have decided to cancel the order. Instead of proceed with the cancellation DVD customer support told me that there hit me with 60% restocking fee ($650 on the item they did not have in stock) Conversation with area manager did not result of anything. We bought a dishwasher in 2021. Since we bought that, we have had a technician out 4 times. The technician is great, but the customer service is beyond poor. I'm currently deployed overseas and my wife let's me know the dishwasher is out again. She calls Dick Van Dyke appliance and says they now charge $10 for gas to come out. I call out to them to ask why they are now charging a fee and that a $10 gas fee wasn't in the contract and his response was "it doesn't say in the contract we can't charge that." They were there a total of 38 minutes and I was charged $224 with using the part that I had already purchased. Doesn't take a math whiz to realize that's over $200/hr. They sent a repair man out to take a look and he has now come out 4 times to fix it and it still is not working. They were supposed to come out today, but they cancelled saying the part was not in. On a Sunday, we ordered a refrigerator online and didn't receive confirmation. Called the next day and spoke to Shawn who said he placed the order and delivery will be in 14 days. We never received any type of confirmation. On delivery day, the appliance didn't arrive so we called and spoke to Shawn who said the item will arrive on Friday, then said he didn't have a delivery date, then said he would need to check and see if the refrigerator is even available. What? During the same call, Shawn offered an 'equivalent replacement' but when we pressed him, he said it was for a different brand with different features. Shawn then asked if we just want to cancel our order and we said no, just give us a delivery date. He said he'd call us the next day. When Shawn called the next day, presumably to give us the updated delivery date, Shawn first pretended not to hear us. We asked, "Can you hear us?" and he answered, "no." We called him out that his response meant that he had, in fact, heard us. Shawn then said he had canceled our order. When asked why, he said that he figured it was what we wanted and, besides, it's so busy during the holidays. Shawn said we would get our money returned in 10 days. Again, no confirmation. They are a nightmare. They took a year to admit the Electrolux dryer was a lemon and gave a pittance to make it right. Many, many service calls to replace everything didn't fix it. No Loaner, no apologies. We hauled many loads of wet clothes waiting for them to stand behind their product. Now we have trouble getting the tech scheduling acceptable. DVD sure does deserve all 1.3 stars (as of this point) of its rating. The "warranty" is junk. If it was really "free" you would be able to decline it. You cant. So know that you are paying for something that isnt "free". The people in the "service" dept are friendly, but not knowledgeable. They are clerks to set up service calls. The "technician" that came to fix a Whirlpool dishwasher that wasnt getting the dishes clean came to my house. He took the filter out of the bottom of the dishwasher (which a 5 year old could do), scrpaped the mesh filter with his fingernail as hes tellim me I need to get some Ahh-Fresh. He then asked me if I was still underwarranty. I said yes, and he said "Ok, you are all set". I got a bill for $200. ...and I still have hard water deposits on the heating element on the bottom of my dishwasher. If I was gonna be charged $200 or a product still under "warranty", that dishwasher should have been CLEAN when he was done. A "clerk" should be able to hear "my dishes arent getting clean" and suggest trying Ahh-Fresh, and seeing if that worked before setting up a service call that was going to charge someone $200. My score would have been ZERO had it let me select 0. But since it wont, the 1 star that Im forced to give this place can go to the fact that at least they are friendly while they reach into your pocket to take more of your money. I suppose I would be friendly too, if I knew I was going to take money from someone that I knew I wasnt entitled to, and knew there was nothing they could do about it. read more

Having read all the negative reviews concerning dick van dyke warranty. I dreaded having them look at my 4 year old refrigerator that was not cooling. It did take 6 days for them to come out, but to be fair it was across a 3 day holiday weekend. The tech {Harold} showed up at appointed time, disassembled, defrosted ice, unplugged frozen drain tube reassembled, all in a little over an hour. Said would order a possible faulty sensor to have on hand if it happens again. Needed to replace dishwasher. Only thing they had was GE. Ordered it they brought it out. Then took mine an left. I unwrapped the unit an found dents in it on both sides. Immediately called them told them drivers left when I was unwrapping unit I could not stop them to tell them about dents. After several back an forth calls I finally got a replacement unit. It to had dents so I showed the delivery guys they said all GE unit are like that. Called store they offered me $75 rebate or I could wait until November 3 to get a different manufacture unit. BUYER BEWARE! They sell poor quality appliances and do not keep their warranty to repair or replace. We have been waiting for over a month to get our dishwasher repaired, and they have not yet done it. Their customer service is rude and unhelpful. They were supposed to have had our replacement parts on 4/12/2021. Today is the 15th, and they have not even bothered to follow-up. We have had to have this dishwasher repaired over 5 times, and they still won't replace it. I finally went to Best Buy; got a GREAT Samsung dishwasher at a GREAT price; great discount with Geek Squad Total Tech Support; and I look forward to being able to have clean dishes after 6 weeks of waiting and no follow-up from the service department that provides poor service. Caveat Emptor! I am currently experiencing the same treatment from the service department as expressed by so many other reviewers. I've purchased all my appliance from Dick Van Dyke for 30 years - long before they were what they have become today - just a smallish store in the White Oaks Plaza. I've been satisfied with previous purchases and so did not even think to read recent reviews on the company. Wow, was THAT a mistake. I purchased all new GE Profile appliances for an upcoming kitchen renovation - a counter-depth refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave convection oven, and a slide-in dual fuel range. Of course, not all of the appliances were immediately able to be delivered. I understood that. I accepted the refrigerator in late January after rejecting the first two because of dents. Late July the compressor on the refrigerator went out. Called for service and the tech who came verified it was the compressor and said that they have all kinds of problems with the compressors on these. Of course, they didn't have a compressor in stock (yes, why not if they have all kinds of problems with them?). The customer service rep said she would contact GE regarding repairing or replacing the appliance. After several days, she replied that she had a case number and GE said that it has to be repaired - not replaced. I called almost daily asking for a status update on the service timing - to no avail. Dick Van Dyke said that they couldn't give me a loaner because we already had one in the garage (full, I might add). Here's the thing - my husband is 87, has congestive heart failure, diabetes, kidney failure, and is in a wheelchair. I work. Husband is capable of going to the fridge and finding something to eat or nuking leftovers. Not able to do THAT with the steps he has to navigate to get to said refrigerator in the garage. Of course, because the freezer in the garage was full, I lost everything inside the one in the house. I was able (I thought) to get all the nasty stinky food thrown away only to discover after a week a malodorous stench emanating from the area (it was the weekend and I was ready to give it a good scrubbing). Careless me! I found a pork steak under one of the baskets. It stayed in there rotting the entire week and I still am trying to get the stench out (kitty litter, baking soda, of course a thorough cleaning with bleach, and any other number of cleaning products) to no avail. Nice. After calling numerous times and explaining that I just wanted SOMEone to talk to be about when the thing would be repaired I finally just showed up at the customer service warehouse in Springfield and talked to the supervisor. Let me tell you - you cannot go above him. He indicated that the Dennis Reiken really has nothing to do with the company. While talking to him on the phone we used trusty Google to learn that John Shepherd is his manager. No talking to him, either (this from the sales folks I talked to after the service manager promised to call me "first thing in the morning" and didn't because he was out of the office). Sales folks pretty much told me that the service manager is king and good luck trying to get around him. So, when is the fridge going to be repaired? Oh - maybe in five weeks. Now, get this - I finally asked about a loaner - again - because I was making a nuisance out of myself. And, drum roll please..... THEY DON'T HAVE ANY LOANERS! And, just for the record, the very same make and model of my fridge is in stock. So, I've asked for a refund; but, based on another review on here, I know I am not going to get the full price. I've also asked for a new fridge; but, they have to do what GE says. Told them they could bring me a new refrigerator, take mine, add the compressor when it comes in IN FIVE WEEKs and sell it like "scratch and dent" or not and sell it to some unsuspecting customer. Nope - just gotta wait it out. I could go on and on.... I was sickening sweet to start with thinking I'd get better service if I was uber nice. Should not have wasted my time on that approach although I do believe kindness matters and I am sure they deal with hostile and upset customers wanting service every day. I didn't want to add to that. I'm over it, now. They do not care. Oh, but the service manager, in our heated discussion, said "he never said that". I told him not those words, but the ACTIONs show that they do not care. They refuse to honor their jingle about standing behind what they sell, service beyond compare, making me happy, getting the whole store. The warranty is going to be a joke when the time comes, I'm sure. So, needless to say, I'm getting a divorce from my 30 year marriage to Dick Van Dyke and am seriously praying that I don't have any issues with the other appliances. Worst customer service experience ever. How is it okay that I have to deal with a service technician on a brand new refrigerator?! Let me just go back and start at the beginning.. I went in on September 9th to see about a new kitchen appliance set. I told Kyle what a wanted and that I liked GE and had $4000 to spend. He turned me to frigidaire and I trusted his expertise although I wanted GE. Kyle told me the fridge probably woulnt be here until mid to late October. I told him waiting wasnt a problem. He tried to get me to buy a dented dishwasher model for $200 off but I declined, I asked him to grab a total on the set and it came to $4004.04. How lucky right? Wrong... I paid for the appliances and left. September 16th came, when the dishwasher and stove were to arrive. Well they had those, and the fridge! We were excited! The guys came in (I dont remember their names, maybe one was Austin. A younger guy with light colored longer hair) first thing in the morning and dropped off the 3 appliances. At the time we didnt know the fridge was coming so our kitchen table was taking up quite a bit of room and so the delivery guys packed them in in a small area in my kitchen. They didnt unwrap any of the appliances (the technician later told me they were supposed to do so, as well as hook them up). Didnt even wear a mask into my house.. They threw the doors on the fridge and asked me to sign on his phone to say the items were delivered. He was talking so fast im not really sure of what they said but I know they never asked me to look the appliances over. So after they left, my boyfriend took the kitchen table apart and moved the fridge to the corner. That's when we plugged the fridge in and he started unwrapping it. Right after unwrapping, we noticed the fridge was covered in dust on top (how nice for a brand new fridge), dirty hand prints inside, and most importantly the back where the water hose connects was dented in and a gash was in the corner of the back. So I called D.V.D. and was told by Kyle I had to call service.. I called service, they said they had to send a Repairman (again not sure why on a brand new fridge). Later that night the fridge made a god awful whining sound. It happens atleast 1-4 times a day when plugged in. While waiting we used our new dishwasher and oven. We loved them at first, until after a couple uses they started acting weird.. the degree spot on the stove flashes 666 and the dishwasher isnt closing or drying my dishes properly (I filled it with cascade drying solution..) So the repairman came out the 30th. He concluded that the frame of the fridge was bent at delivery or before, and that the compressor was bad. He told D.V.D. I waited and heard nothing so I called back, the original service lady I spoke with Tosha no longer worked there. I spoke with Amanda. She asked what I wanted to do and I told her I wanted the appliances all switched out for GE like I originally wanted. She said she updated my file and that once reviewed, either later that day or Monday she would call me back, she promised. Tuesday rolls around and I call back...she said she just got the file and that they could exchange the fridge with no charge, but I would have to pay a 10% restocking fee on the dishwasher and stove or 20% if I wanted my money back. I told her I just wanted GE appliances, that I shouldn't have to pay a restocking fee... the original reciept says there is a 20% restocking fee on non warranty returns but my appliances came with a warranty and I only want to switch them out. I told Amanda to call me back with a solution, that wasnt one. She never called back.. I called and spoke with another service representative Sarah, who refused to transfer me to a supervisor and referred me to Brianna another service rep that I already spoke with after Amanda who told me the same, 10% or 20% restocking fee my choice. What a great solution... she said the same thing again and at this point I am 100% pissed off. I shouldn't even be dealing with the service department!!! I just want what I paid for, a working and non dented (GE) appliance set. Here I am a month later with this same problem and Kyle still wont call me back. My husband and I purchased a Whirlpool refrigerator online on 1/22. We recieved an emial on 1/23 from Kyle Spencer stating that our fridge would arrive on 2/7. On 2/6, the day before our set delivery, we recieved an email from Kyle stating our appliance had been damaged in shipping and a new one would have to be ordered. He stated, "Your satisfaction is our top priority, and we are committed to making this right for you." We were now set to recieve our refrigerator 2/23...another 2.5 weeks after the first 2.5 weeks we had waited. My husband called to see of anything could be done as were living out of 3 coolers in our kitchen, trying to keep milk etc. cold for our two small children. There wasn't much that could be done. We were understanding and patiently waited for our refrigerator.The Tuesday (2/20) before our delivery, I called to check on things. I was told our refrigerator would arrive Saturday 2/24. On Friday 2/23 we recieved an email stating our refrigerator was back ordered and we could not recieve that refrigerator until 3/29. Unfortunately, we didn't see this email until early Saturday morning, the day we expected our appliance to arrive. We quickly called the store and stated we had now been 5 weeks without a refrigerator and were still using coolers and frozen jugs of water to keep everything cold and we were seeking a solution. We were told that there wasn't any management there on Saturday but the salesperson assured us he'd speak with his manager first thing Monday and even go above them if needed. On Monday 2/26 we waited the morning for a call. By 11am my husband decided to go ahead and call. He was told everyone was in meetings and they'd get back to us. By 3pm no one had called and my husband called back. The salesperson was not helpful and when we asked about a loaner refrigerator they said that those are usually all given away. We were upset and reached out to an employee we knew asking who could help us get this situation figured out. Our family friend spoke with Angel, in customer service, and she assured him she would help us. A salesperson promptly called us stating they could help us find a new refrigerator or let us use the loaner. Per policy the loaner can only go in a garage. Because we have a detached garage across the yard, we opted to have them help us find a new refrigerator. We ordered it that day and it was set to arrive 1/7. Our refrigerator did arrive on time, however, I was made to pay an EXTRA $40 on top of the delivery fee we had already paid, because the delivery took over 40minutes. They required payment before leaving. I paid, because the delivery people are simply doing their job, but I quickly called customer service asking for my $40 to be refunded. After a customer waits 6 weeks for a refrigerator and is only contacted the day before each delivery to say, "Hey it's not coming," is it good customer service to then charge them extra? I was told my case would be reviewed. After reviewing the case Dick Van Dyke decided it was in fact appropriate to keep the $40. $40 wasn't going to make or break us when we were already spending thousands on a new appliance. However, I was overwhelmingly disappointed in the lack of communication and assistance we recieved through this whole process, the lack of empathy over our situation, and quite honestly I mad when I was told I would need to pay more. My family has owned small businesses for 27 years. My younger brother and I now help answer concerns/complaints and reviews such as this one. When a customer has a problem you don't email them the day before they expect to recieve their item and you don't ask them to pay extra when they have been inconcienvced. Kyle's email about our satisfaction being top priority and being commited to making this right, is a catchy tag line but not a true sentiment held by Dick Van Dyke. If you want a company that will communicate well, Dick Van Dyke isn't it. If you want someone who will work with you when things go unexpectedly, Dick Van Dyke isn't it. If you want a company that values their customers over profits, Dick Van Dyke isn't it. Congratulations Dick Van Dyke, you got to keep your $40 but lost a customer. My family and I will be sure to use Sam's Best Brands next time and we will be telling everyone else to do the same. read more

I purchased a freezer from them two years ago. During that period it has failed five times, spoiling the food within. I've now spent more on spoiled food than on the freezer. I have repeatedly called seeking some sort of resolution. But remain unsatisfied. read more

I would like to have left a good review because one of the reasons we went to Dick Van Dyck's is that they are a locally-owned business. HOWEVER, sometimes that can be more expensive and more troublesome. First of all, the free warrantee DVD gives is NOT a ten year warrantee though it is labeled a 5/10 year warrantee. In 2016, we bought a micro-hood (a microwave that goes over the stove) to replace the one that quit on us (it came with the house). Within two years, we had trouble with the new one from DVD's. Since they could not tell us how soon the tech could come out, we bought a cheap countertop microwave from a big box store to see us through the holidays. The tech did fix it, we thought, but soon had to have them out again and then again. Eventually they told us they had to replace the whole appliance. Then late last year (holiday time again!) the DVD brand-new replacement started giving us trouble. Of course, their 5/10 warrantee would not cover anything this time (the new replacement worked off of the old warrantee) and the amount we have to pay for this reparation is more than a new cheap microwave from a big box store. The cheap countertop microwave we bought to have on hand has worked perfectly (knock on wood) during the whole time that the DVD appliance gave us problems. read more

Ordered and paid 100% for all appliances for a new house in February. Delivery date was set for April 29th. Our house wasn't ready so I called to move the delivery to May 27th. I was told, no problem, we can hold your appliances for up to a year, all appliances are in. Called to ask about a time for delivery on the 27th & they said not all of our appliances are in! The refrigerator won't be in till Sept 16th now!!! WHAT? We think they sold our frig to someone else. Unethical company. I would not recommend this company for anyone. I was set up for a service for a new refrigerator with an ice machine that needed to be set up. I advised them that my old one didn't have one. They advised it's 69 to just to come out. I asked the operator to call the store to confirm exactly what is needed to complete this set and the cost. After speaking with the ones that would install it it would be 157. I didn't ask any additional questions about my setup, even though I repeatedly asked what was needed because I didn't want them to come out for no reason. They came and said that they couldn't do it because there wasn't a water line setup. I told my service guy Jayden that nothing like that was asked of me or mentioned after I asked the operator to ask the service guy what was needed and the cost. I told him I'm not paying for something that can't be done especially when asked in advance. I told him to call his manager to get this cleared. The kid called and was advised that he would inform the manager so the service charge would be reimbursed. I told Jayden to have the manager listen to the recorded call. Long story short the manager refused to speak to me, and they are not trying to clear the charge. I'm disputing through my bank now. read more

Buyer Beware! The warranties they offer are horrible. My washing machine has been broken for 7 weeks. Every time we call we get a different story. I have spent hundreds of dollars at the laundromat and I still have no idea when they will fix my washer. The customer service is terrible. We have called many times no one can help us. Purchased a chest freezer and refrigerator (both Frigidaire) from DVD in late 2016. The freezer stopped working earlier this year, and so we had a service tech come out to look at it. The thermostat was bad, and he told me Frigidaire no longer makes the replacement part so it was not fixable and not under warranty. So we paid for the service call to be told there was nothing that could be done. Then the icemaker in our refrigerator stopped working - cost of service call and repair? - nearly $300. I called Frigidaire customer service and was told they couldn't do anything. Called DVD to see if they could at least pick up the useless freezer, and they said they would - for another $65. Folks, don't waste your time with this place. Despite their jingles of "we stand behind what we sell" and "when you buy from us you get the whole store"...you can actually get poor quality appliances with below average service where they don't necessarily stand behind what they sell. Might as well go with the big box stores or, better yet, a different local appliance retailer. read more

$699 for a Whirlpool dishwasher that lasts a year! 4 months it sits broken. Extended warranty? BUYER BEWARE! What a joke and a scam! They can't fix it. They send repairman with broken parts (BUYER BEWARE it may cost you $15 each visit!) They won't fix it. Repair department is rude beyond reproach... even ask me why I bothered to purchase from their store. Really no kidding. Now they won't replace it and want to offer a pittance as credit toward new dishwasher. BUYER BEWARE it doesn't even cover installation and haul away of this piece of junk they sold me. Their warranty is really a disclaimer on what they won't do for you now that they have your money. I see their TV ads showing loads of #1 awards in a wheel barrel. Their #1 awards really are: WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE. WORST GIMMICKY WARRANTY. WORST AT CARING FOR THEIR CLIENTS & CLIENT RETENTION. Save yourself headaches and hours on the phone.
