I've been living in out of state for years and Dr. Galan is STILL my go to eye doctor (and has been since I was a kid). Aside from the fact that he is kind, knowledgeable, and thorough, the staff is also absolutely lovely. It's so nice to walk into an office and be greeted by such warm sociable people. My previous insurance plan wasn't excepted in NY so I paid out of pocket last time I was here and it felt like I was actually stealing something because it was so cheap. I've been wearing distance contacts for years never thinking I was a candidate for mono vision. I'm at that age where I've been relying more and more on drug store reading glasses and it's been driving me nutty. You know...... glasses on, glasses off, glasses lost all over the place. Ugh, Well, my friend recommended Dr. Shane Galan at Diamond Vision In Rockville Centre. He and his office staff are awesome and amazing. I am wearing mono vision contact lenses now and I'm SO SO HAPPY!!!! Why am I happy????? Why am I thrilled????? Because I don't need those dreaded drug store readers AND I found a doctor who is so caring, friendly and truly wants to please his patients. Stay far away from this place. They charge an exorbitant amount for basic exams and do not honor the insurance they accept at agreed upon rates. The receptionists are rude and condescending. read more

I have been taking my daughter to Dr. Galan for her yearly eye exam and contact lens fitting for many years. We both love Dr. Galan for his great manner in dealing with his patients. He is efficient but you don't feel rushed. He is thorough but doesn't subject you to any unnecessary testing or waste your time. Sometimes you wait a bit if things get backed up but that is the case for any decent Dr. with a thriving practice, and he is worth the wait. I don't know how the prices at Diamond Vision compare to other providers but I'm happy to pay whatever he charges b/c the location is convenient and I feel he does a great job. I called Diamond Vision Center in a panic yesterday. I was trying to find a place for my boyfriend, who in the process of taking the medical/physicals for the Federal Customs/Border Patrol, was told he needed to take the "Farnsworth 100 Hue" and "Farnsworth D15" tests. I was calling every comprehensive eye care place and no one did these specific tests for color blindness. Lo and behold, this facility not only did the tests but they accommodated us the very next morning and said the doctor would come in an hour early for us as he had a deadline for submitting the results of the exams. I was shocked and thankful. Dr Shane Galan was one of the nicest people ever! He confidently explained everything thoroughly and with a smile. In at 8:50am and out at 9:40am. Dr. Shane Galan, nicest man you'll meet on earth! No seriously he really is the best. I found this practice online because I was searching for a place that does the Farnsworth D-15 and Farnsworth-Munsell 100 hue color vision test for Customs and Border Protection. If you have no idea what im talking about, let me tell you I called 50 other places who rudely told me Im talking "in code". But not this office!!! From the first phone call I made, Patty right off the bat knew exactly what I was talking about, super professional and thorough, which is especially important when your having an over the phone conversation. Made my appointment for just a few days later. Upon entering received a warm welcome, to nice staff and beautiful clean office. Coming from brooklyn its always surprising when people actually look forward to talking to you! Other staff was extremely nice as well although I don't remember their names I give them credit too. Waited maybe 5 minutes to be called in to see Dr. Galan. I explained to him my situation with optic neuritis and multiple sclerosis, and why it was necessary for Dept of Homeland security to have this color vision test done on me. He answered alllll of my questions, I did not feel rushed, or like a burden. Did both tests in less than the time I was given, we went through all the paperwork I was told to fill out. He really went above and beyond for me! I couldn't be happier. I don't wear glasses or contacts, and this practice is 40minutes from my house, but trust when I say if I ever need either, I have no problem taking the drive out there!!! Dr. Galan is an outstanding eye doctor who is professional, accommodating, and down to earth. He always takes the time to explain what he does and, gives great advice on how I can best treat my eyes. I never feel rushed when I have an appointment, or have to wait a long time. He has even made himself available during multiple after-hour eye emergencies that I had, and handled them all with patience and understanding. His staff member Denise is the most kind and helpful person I've dealt with in a doctor setting. She always follows up and makes sure my contacts are delivered in time. I must say, from the beginning I was looking forward to my eye appointment. The receptionist I spoke with on the phone was very friendly. Upon my arrival I was greeted with a smile, and all my questions regarding billing and insurance were answered. I did have to wait about 30 minutes, it seemed there were a couple of eye injury appointment and they were a little backed up. But when I mentioned to the assistant that I wasn't sure I had enough $ in the meter she went out and put more in for me! Dr galan is very personable, and gave me several brands of contacts to try out before ordering. I definitely recommend this office. read more

Love going here. I have been seeing Dr Galan for 8 years and travel from Queens. The commute to his office is worth it. Everyone who works there is so friendly and willing to help. It's always easy getting an appointment and I usually never have to wait to see the doctor. After my examination, Mindy always helps me pick out frames. We have been seeing Dr Galan for many years. Within the last year things have changed. I had 2 occasions that I called and asked for the Doctor to call me when he was finished I had an eye issue that I felt needed care. I received no return call. Two months later the condition had worsened I called again, the receptionist was most kind, SHE called me and told me to come in at 5:30. Dr Galan did spend time with me but at this point the problem had gotten worse & he was unable to clear it up. He referred me to a professional. Had it been cared for in March, perhaps and I do not know it could have been delayed, now I have to have surgery to open tear ducts. My husband went a month ago for a regular check up, all was well, he ordered new glasses ($119 for the frame). The bill came to $600 which he paid. They then billed medicare and United Health and got about $200 more. He called & asked was he going to get the $200 refunded to him, they said NO and not nicely. He asked for a itemized bill, the charges were ridiculous, not the Doctor's fault he is a good doctor he can charge what he wants, HOWEVER his prices are way above our pay level. The lady said I will refund you $50. That will not be necessary as we will not be going back to Diamond VIsion. The gals are nice (except the one who told Fred NO). Dr Galan is nice as well but way too much money, the follow up is not what it once was, and the level of caring is not as we felt it used to be. By no means are we saying that they are not good at what they do, just too expensive, we have spoken to friends and we just do not belong there or do we feel that they will ever miss us. Times have changed, that was not our opinion or experience for the last 5 years. I had recommended him to a friend, when she called she had to wait too long for an appointment so it does indicate the practice is thriving. read more
