The GP at a hair more. You quoted $6,000 then offered $700 for both watches. You are now claiming $14,000-16,000 in restoration costs. Those numbers just are not accurate in any world... These watches are being serviced. They weren't beyond repair... they were beyond your interest in being honest. Vintage watch service specialists exist that are not predatory. I've been to the shop several times and every time they give me a rose, it's nice they make the ladies feel so special! This is my second time visiting Diamond Jim's jewelry store and the watch repair. I love supporting local business. Stop the car, honey. I used to live in this neighborhood and would drive-by all the time. What changed my mind to stop in is that I have inherited a bunch of older watches and I needed to know if they could work, be repaired, just needed batteries, what they're worth,etc. It's a small store and you have to be buzzed in. But their selection is great. While I was in there, somebody was getting their jewelry cleaned and inspected for insurance purposes. Another person was browsing. They have super friendly and very knowledgeable customer service representative's. They swiftly took my watches and told me to have a look around while they checked over my watches and replace the batteries that needed to be. One watch, I picked up at a flea market. It was cheap watch and more for sentimental value of why I was keeping it.? The jeweler said to repair it would cost as much buying a nice new watch. But they gave me the option if I did want it repaired. I declined. I love the selection . They have a lot of unique pieces and it doesn't feel cookie cutter like at some of the larger chain stores. I value their personal service and do not feel like they are trying to make a sale just because. Instead, go there to get educated about jewelry and find some nice pieces to give as a gift or to add to your own collection. Added bonus - they always have monthly drawings for different types of jewelry that includes that month's birthstone. They do offer layaway plans. Big extra bonus : They have some Insane sales right now as they are celebrating their 10th year anniversary and will be remodeling the store. I questioned what to expect from this store as a neighbor said I had to go there to get the batteries changed in my watches..so reasonable. She was exactly right..$5 to $8 for batteries. Seems everyone in my complex have gone there and have great things to say. The staff couldn't be more pleasant and helpful when you go in. This last time I went in to get three watch bands and two batteries. The only brown band they had for my every day self winding was $30 which is more than I usually spend for that watch. The other two bands were less for two Seikos I don't wear that often. The day after I picked up my watches a loop fell off my $30 band. I was a bit surprised but things happen, right? I am a person who rarely return anything but the next day. When I took it in, they could not have been more helpful, exchanged the band no questions asked. My Mother loved her diamonds and my father enjoyed buying them for her. I might have more knowledge in general of the way quality service should be when one is buying more expensive items. I had enough experience listening while I waited for my parents made their purchases. Also, I've spent time listening when my Mother had her jewelry fixed and cleaned. In this respect these people also get my stamp of approval. In closing, I will make one remark. In any jewelry store, the goal is to sell the merchandise. Unless one is ready to do some high end impulse buying, one should know their limits. No, thank you, is a perfectly acceptable answer. Keeps you out of trouble and makes browsing a delightful experience. They are moderate to high end. They also have more parking in the back of the building. read more

I came to get a battery put into a watch and was told it would be around 175 dollars. I thought i had heard wrong and gasped when he repeated that number. i told the jeweler that i had gotten the same battery replaced a few years ago, 3, by them and paid around 15 bucks. he said that couldn't be and i told him i must be in his records because i had gotten 3 or 4 watches done at the same time. he looked it up and sure enough i paid about what i said. He shook his head and mumbled something about before covid and I asked for my watch back at which point he told me to be careful who replaced my battery because it was a Cartier and I just left. The more I thought about it the more it annoyed me. i called back and spoke to the manager. he told me that yes the price i was quoted was in fact correct and that i had probably gotten charged incorrectly the first time and wasn't that lucky for me? Sigh... Here's the funny part... it was a FAKE Cartier! Sooo.... I basically got swindled and someone thought they could charge me exorbitantly for a BATTERY for a FAKE Cartier. I will never go back and I will continue to tell this story. I lost all respect for this business. Too bad... I ended up across the street and got charged the appropriate amount for a watch battery. My girlfriend sold some jewelry to this place back in 2012. She received a check for $200, but misplaced it before she could deposit it into her account. We were going through our files late last year, and found the check. My girlfriend tried to deposit it, but it was returned unpaid since the account it was drawn on had already been closed. I figured it was probably a lost cause, but I decided to drop a line to the business on Yelp to see if they would be willing to help. The initial response I got from "Diamond Jim" (the business owner, James K.) was prompt and promising. He asked for a copy of the check, and promised to look at their books from 2012 to straighten the matter out. I was surprised and pleased, and already writing a positive review of the business in my head. Unfortunately, things went downhill after that. After an initial back-and-forth making sure he had received the check images, the owner promised to contact me again after the new year. However, by March, I hadn't heard back. I sent a message asking about the status, and he immediately answered that someone must have fraudulently cashed our check back in 2012 and that their bank had "contacted the authorities". This doesn't add up, as the check never left our possession, and was never endorsed until 2016. This whole experience has left us confused. I think I understand the reluctance to make payment years after the fact, even though they did rightfully owe the money. But why even respond to my message initially if you were just going to give us the runaround in the end? The real lesson is to run to the bank with any checks you may receive from this business -- they'll only pretend to help if you happen to have any issues. read more

I like this place a lot. I stopped in here with a watch that needed a battery, a ring that needed to be sized, a broken chain that was laying in the bottom of my jewelry box for years and a broken earring that was my favorite pair. The earring repair was around $25 and the watch battery $5. The owner Jim weighed and then bought the chain from me and I ended up paying him $2. He told me that they would buy silver as well as gold and he'll also sell items on Ebay. The ring sizing was $78 because it was so small and needed extra gold to make it the size I wanted. I decided not to have it done at that time. I drove up to Schmidts Jewelers on Glendale and 7th Street to see what they would charge to size the ring. They wanted over a hundred dollars. I went home and found another piece of jewelry I didn't care for and haven't worn in years and brought it back to Diamond Jim's. He told me the cash value was $180. Cool. I left my ring to be sized and he gave me $102. He has some pretty interesting one of a kind pieces in the cases including some nice amber jewelry as well as artwork. I ended up buying a small pair of sapphire and diamond chip earrings for $15. The only bad thing is the parking lot. It's tiny and it's shared with a very busy restaurant (Tex-Az). Don't go at lunchtime. read more

I spotted a ring I fell in love with, and then fell in love all over again with the price so I called my BF right away. I chose to use their layaway program. I have visited this friendly little shop twice so far. First time was to have my ring polished and then again to have a battery replaced in my watch. I took in my engagement ring from my first marriage and got store credit. I used the credit to have them convert a rather large necklace with a lot of sentimental value to me, into a pendent and earrings. The workmanship was amazing and cost far less then I had expected. They took excellent care of a rather meaningful piece for me. They also fixed a ring for me and made it better. With my remaining store credit I was able to buy a lovely ring with a huge piece of amber in it and an amethyst ring, silver chain, and a gift for someone else. I went over my store credit but it was so worth it. The staff at Diamond Jim's are thoughtful and just lovely to work with. Skip the mall and go to Diamond Jim's.
