Well, this place is allergic to flavor I guess. If you enjoy your caprese salad dry as a bone with little to no flavor, this is your spot. The Italian sandwich was filled with solid ingredients, fresh even. However the sandwich was again dry as a bone. I understand many like light oil and vinegar on their Italian sandwich, but come on. I asked for any type of dressing they may have and they said we already put it on the sandwich. So, I guess customer tastes comes last here in relation to what you request. What a waste of excellent ingredients on a very dry roll. When the pepper is the highlight of taste, it may be an issue. Disappointing enough to leave the second half. We door dashed so I can't speak to the ambience there. I will say the food was delivered quickly but two items were missing. We received spaghetti and meat sauce and a meatball hoagie. The spaghetti was very salty while lacking other flavors. It was a good sized portion, enough to save for lunch. My daughter had the meatball sub, it was very large and the flavor was good per her report. However, the bread was very soggy so the sandwich fell apart immediately. What a cute little taste of Italy in downtown Denton, near campus. I have to start with the service. Everyone is friendly and welcoming and willing to answer questions. There are just a few seats inside and outside to enjoy your food. A nice variety of imported Italian goods and wines to chose from. We ordered from todays special menu. The Buttero panino was sliced strip steak (we prefer ours thinner) aged provolone, pesto, arugula,basalmic, on a ciabatta roll. I loved the freshness of the pesto and arugula with the contrasting basalmic. A very nicely presented sandwich. The Muffuletta sandwich is SO big. I could not bite it. And I, admittedly have a big mouth. Several layers of Italian meats and provolone, with an amazing mix of chopped olives. SO good. It was yummy! I don't need to eat for a week after all this fresh bread. They have their in house made ciabatta pizza called Grandmoms pies. The ciabatta was light and fluffy with the house marinara and Parmesan. I would add some mozzarella next time. The deli case has a mix of fresh salads, meats and cheeses and home made meatballs. The refrigerator section had pizza dough and store made pastas. As well as fresh breads and a small veggie section to round out your Italian meal should you choose to cook at home. As a small Italian market with a broad selection of hard-to-find food items and wines and spices and breads, I would give this a solid 4 and a half stars. As a deli for lunch, I would have to rate it a low 3 stars. We were in the area running errands and stopped in for lunch. I ordered the Sausage and Peppers Hoggie and my wife ordered the Caprese Sandwich. I thought both were a bit on the pricy side, but went for it. We then went over to the drink case to get drinks. I got the blood orange and black raspberry San Pellegrino and my wife had A' Siciliana Blood Orange drink. Her drink was $4 more but "less commercial." Not worth the price difference at all. Stick with the brand available just about anywhere, but go for the unique flavor. We also wandered around the store while waiting for out food. Fun to just look at all of the products and different olive oils and balsamic vinegars and other items not usually found around here. Before our next Italian dinner party, this will be our first stop. When the food arrived, both sandwiches were very good size, but not giant. And, for the prices, some chips on the side would have been welcome. My wife described her sandwich as "good" but not anything out of the ordinary. I had selected mine because of the sausage and then the giant sign on the wall saying Homemade Sausage. I found the sausage bland and flavorless and my peppers overcooked. The entire sandwich was absolutely dripping with grease. The sandwich could have used some sauce or condiment offering because it needed it to pump up any flavor. The bread was fresh and excellent. Service was good and friendly, and the restaurant was clean. So, the final conclusion is I would not eat here again, but would shop here again. read more

Oh my gods. That an Italian market like this exist in Denton Texas is divine perfection. I used to make a beeline to the Italian deli market in Staten Island every time I went there. This is the closest thing you were ever going to get to a true Italian market here in Texas. They have groceries, authentic Italian food, I drank an Americano that knocked my socks off, The servers are all super friendly and helpful. When asked if I needed any help, I simply responded "I am just so happy to be here." if you love, authentic Italian food, want to try some real espresso, or pick up some Italian groceries this is the place. The atmosphere is so nice and relaxing with Italian music being lightly piped over the air. I just left and I want to go back again to try some of the deli sandwiches and hot menu items. I happened to be in the Denton area for an event when I noticed this little Italian deli/store - just like Jimmy's in Dallas but smaller. Being half Italian and having spent a lot of time there visiting family, there's so many foods, brands, traditions, etc. that you miss since they're not available here. When I walked around, I immediately smiled when I saw the same items that my family uses back home. Walking up and down the aisles, I noticed torrone, a candy that I absolutely adore, strozzapreti, a s pasta that comes from my region of Italy, and so many more. Frozen section shows a variety of handmade pastas and even pizza dough. Since I was on my way to an event, this will be on my next trip. On the deli side of the store, there was meat counter with all sorts of meats, ready to slice to take home or to make you a fresh sandwich or charcuterie. At that time, I really considered skipping the event so I could buy and try more things! All in all, it's so nice to know that there's a good Italian place to get the essentials and an Italian deli sandwich without having to drive down to Dallas. I read about Di Abruzzo a while back which sounded like exactly what Denton needed, italian restaurant and italian grocery in the same space! They have a handful of tables and under 10 different dishes they serve that you can order and eat. We didn't have time to eat at this visit but it definitely looked good and people seemed to be enjoying it. They have a nice grocery full of Italian style items, olive oil, different kinds of pasta, olives etc. They also have a small deli where they sell deli meat like salami and similar, different meats. They also had pre-rolled meatballs that you just have to cook yourself. I was pleasantly surprised that they had veal which we needed for a recipe and you don't typically find it in groceries in Denton. They also sell cannoli's at the Deli and they are made when you order it which was a nice surprise. I tried the plain cannoli and it was very good! I can't remember having a better cannoli in Texas. This is based off of a lunch experience AND a walk through for a couple of take & bakes! The sammiches that my hubby grabbed for us when they first open were very good. Loaded to the brim with meats and cheeses on freshly baked bread. On Saturday, we knew we wouldn't want to cook dinner so we popped in really quick to grab some of their take & bakes. My hubby loves fettuccine Alfredo and I went for the lasagna. The fettuccine were freshly made with black pepper and garlic. The lasagna was in it's own baking container. I also nabbed a bottle of red bubbles, some soup mixes, fresh parmesan and a loaf of that freshly made bread. We stopped on the way home to grab a jar of Alfredo sauce and just like that, dinner is prepped. There is nothing like fresh pasta and boy, oh, boy these dishes did not disappoint. The fettuccine noodles were delicious and I had plenty left over for another meal. I stacked two servings of that lasagna on top of each other to make a deep dish. The quality of the ingredients here make me so happy - the homemade sausage embedded in each layer of homemade marinara! I had at least two servings of that left over as well. I ended up eating a few cold spoonfuls of lasagna for breakfast. I ate the rest of the lasagna for lunch. AND for dinner, polished off the fettuccine! It was that good! It's not cheap but nothing of quality is and you can tell the difference between this type of homemade pasta vs what you find in a grocery store. So, if you're in town, you best go get some of this delicious food. There is a small market with imported items, some fresh veggies and do NOT sleep on the fresh items in the cooler by the sammich makers! I totally forgot to nab an arancini and a ricotta pie slice. We ordered the chicken Alfredo, the Giacomo (a large sandwich), and butter noodles for my child. They all came out great and fresh. The sandwich was so refreshing, and the pastas were delicious. There were a few tables inside and outside, though it would not be good for a group of 20ppl or more. Decided to try this place out with all the hype I hear. Went in and to the right was a grocery section and left was the deli. For me it was a bit confusing where to order since there was a separate cashier stand and deli. The menu isn't the main visual so you have to look around for it. I ordered the caprese with prosciutto also had a small container with antipasto salad. Got some sparkling water as well. A tiny wait for them to make your sandwich but not too bad. Sandwich: overall it was okay not great but not totally bad. Was it worth the money? No. The bread was dry for my liking. I've had my share of caprese sandwiches but this fell short. To each their own though. I did sample their cherry cookie and that was very good. Their antipasto salad was very good I did enjoy that. My partner and I went here for an olive oil tasting (Nonno Luigi) and we loved it! I wish more places did tastings like this this. The store itself has a wonderful variety of Italian products such as fruits, cheeses, wines, pastas, sauces, and way more. They also have a really great deli where you can order some food- I had a muffuletta and he had a meatball parm on a hoagie and a glass of wine. The food was delicious! SUMMARY: Fantastic new (less than a year old) Italian deli and market. We've been searching for one and a local FB group was gushing about this place, so I dragged my coworker there with me. Best decision ever and I plan to make this a regular stop! BACKGROUND: A local FB Denton group member was raving about this and everyone piled on, so I had to go. I brought one of my more adventurous coworkers here on a very cold day and we had our first lunch here. ATMOSPHERE: They did it right. This strip mall is well, kind of dreary and looks like it's on its last legs but I'm hoping the strength of this deli and store revives this strip mall. Back to the store: It's clean, it's bright, and appears to have a great selection of imported Italian items as well as a counter for deli. There are about 5-6 tables so get there early if you want to eat there. FOOD: So far I've had the Di Abruzzo Italian Special as well as the Caprese. My favorite between the two is the Di Abruzzo mainly because it is more my type of an Italian sandwich when I think about Italian sandwiches. There's an option to add Italian hot pepper sauce and I'm glad I took them up on it. The manager was kind enough to give us some packets of hot sauce too. The bread, while somewhat hard to chew, was still delicious. The Caprese was just as good, but I liked the DA better. And the DA sandwich was more food too. I could finish it, but I'd probably take a long nap at work. SERVICE: Quick enough if people knew what they were ordering before getting to the counter. I can foresee this place getting busy to the point where if you're not ready, then the next person will be called to order :) SUGGESTION: EDIT- Thank you for the management team taking my suggestion to get the drinks closer to the register seriously. I drove by last month and saw a business in the old Legends location. An Italian Market??? We quickly pulled in, just to see they are closed on Sundays. The hours of operation (Monday-Saturday 11am to 6pm) and look of the outside screamed small business, so I filed it away as a must visit for later. Unfortunately it took me another 6 weeks to make it by during business hours. I came by early Friday afternoon, on a rare weekday off, to check out the grocery store and was surprised to also see a meat counter and tables with people eating. Within 30 seconds of entering, the first aisle I saw was full of ingredients and brands I recognized from my nana's pantry. I believe it was about this time I started involuntarily doing a little skip, trying to keep a happy dance contained. While there are only 4 or 5 aisles with a freezer section along the back, the selection was great! From a nostalgic point of view, I saw several breadsticks and cookies I remember from my childhood in NY. I bought one of the breadsticks and the 7 layer cookies, which did not disappoint! I intend to purchase their homemade raviolis and gelato pops from the freezer section on a future visit. We also got some sauce and I was impressed to see a huge selection of pasta, including 2 I didn't even recognize! They also have wine and olive oil! The staff was sooooo friendly! There were multiple people working and they were so nice and engaging and I really felt welcomed- another bit of nostalgia! While everyone I saw was too young to be one of the owners, the owners clearly know how to hire and inspire their staff. I learned that they were just about to go into their 3rd month of business. Multiple people said goodbye to my husband and I when we left. I KNEW I would be back. In the parking lot, the happy dance could no longer be contained! On our first visit, I wasn't hungry because we were stuffed from lunch. Although I was intrigued by their deli counter, including house made meatballs, pasta salad and a selection of sausages. I kept walking by 3 people at different tables that were eating hoagies, looking happy, and eating in that content silence when the food is so good it requires all your attention. So I ordered a cannoli to go. A plain cannoli, as this is how I judge a place, not drizzled in chocolate to hide imperfections, but a plain old cannoli. We didn't even make it out of the parking lot before I tried it and oh my Gooooodddddd. It's amazing! I then remembered they also sell their cannoli filling in the freezer section as well, and I could buy that alone to eat straight out of the piping bag! The pastry was good too, it was clearly made fresh to order and not made early and stored in a fridge to slowly die. I was immediately analyzing it, trying to figure out the ingredients- is that coffee infused? Is that a hint of cinnamon? It was both familiar and clearly a unique recipe. I am terrible at figuring out recipes, which is why I enjoy food instead of make food, but this was legitimately the best cannoli I've had in the entire state of Texas. After a few bites and thinking hard, I'm pretty sure this is the best cannoli I've had *ever*, including in NY! There is no way that building doesn't contain at least 1 person originally from the east coast. We came back the next day, Saturday just before noon, with the intention of splitting a meatball hoagie and a pistachio cannoli, but there wasn't a single parking spot available! My husband dropped me off in front so I could just get a cannoli and we could go elsewhere for lunch, and I immediately saw most of those cars were people in the store, despite the other businesses in that shopping center. I am thrilled they are so popular, I definitely want them to stay in business, but it was a bit chaotic with people everywhere, every seat taken and barely anywhere to stand in line. The pistachios were a garnish, instead of mixed in, which is more authentic. The cannoli cream was consistent and the pistachios tasted freshly added, very nice. I am definitely going back to purchase some freezer items and have lunch there, I just have to be smarter with my arrival time. Oh, and a cannoli per visit will definitely be mandated! Even if you don't find yourself needing top tier ingredients for cooking, you MUST stop in so you can try out their food and get a cannoli- just leave some for me! read more

We ordered eggplant Parmesan with housemaid fettuccine, one of their and huge sandwiches and of course cannolis!
