If you are beginning to cook, looking for a fun night out or just want to try something new sign up for a cooking class! Instructors were down to earth and did I mention BYOB!? our menu consisted of homemade pasta, garlic steak bites and red wine chocolate cake. Class was from 630-9 and tickets were about 90$ per person for our class. They also give you the full recipe to take home so you can make it again. Will sign up and come back again!

Best cooking class in Dallas. Everything was clean and organized. The chef was very thorough and explained everything well. We had a blast and will def do this again. It was a full class but didn't feel like we were cramped up, everyone had their own cooking station and we all made our own meal. The food was good quality and everything tastes delicious.

We did a Thai cooking class and loved it! We ate some delicious food and the instructors were great.

I like kitchen social because of how nice the setup is and you are not paired up with other groups sharing a station like other cooking classes I've attended.

I recently moved to Plano and have been researching fun activities to participate in. Running in 90+ degree temps with humidity will tire a girl out! Something needs to be indoors. Enter, an incredible pastry class. I'm no rookie when it comes to culinary classes. I love them! I love cooking and baking and always learn something new from a class. It's something I throughly enjoy. This experience was 5 STARS! Everyone was so warm, friendly, inclusive and kind. We really had the absolute best time. I've been trying to feel a sense of community after relocating and the other students, as one told me are "my people". My week days have been spent in an altogether different environment that regardless of if it's cultural has brought me down in a real way. I was looking for an afternoon of joie. The class was so inviting, hands on and fun! We made a bunch of items, shared snacks and our creations together. On break another student in class gave me a tour of Central Market since I'd never been to one. Grabbing coffee, exchanging business cards with others, bookmarking a ton of new spots to try and learning about other fun activities was truly worth every dollar spent to join this 4hr class. It felt exactly like what I had imagined moving to Texas with Texans would feel like. It attracted the finest residents. I can't wait to return. They have an all star line up of classes and August is hatch chili month. I will surely be signing up for at least one class a month. The florals are also totally worth mentioning, the store and class is adorned in the most incredible arrangements. It really was such a lovely class. Now if I can find someone to teach me Mahjong! The store is also gorgeous! I'm definitely at the age where I couldn't care less about local bars, show me a stunning grocery store! Coming from Los Angeles, dare I say it... Central Market might be better than Erewhon.

Rolled, cut, and filled our pasta. Then enjoyed a feast of our own making. Perfection (maybe not perfect but definitely beautiful and incredibly tasty). Recipes were provided and easy to follow. I will do these at home. And a surprise: Italian creme cupcake for my birthday celebration. Truly a great night. Totally worth it for a family celebration.

Chef Zach provided us a wealth of knowledge on the different types of cocoa (dutch, natural), how to know what's happening with your ganache, how the proportions of liquid to chocolate impact it, infusion of flavors, talked about how best to incorporate ingredients depending on the way in which you choose to do so (by hand, mixer, or food processor) - just a pleasure to learn from and talk to! I'm the baker in the house (although my husband makes amazing souffle's) and I walked away with tips and and tricks that I will definitely be using in the future! I loved seeing and using some of the tools that I didn't even know existed but will definitely be purchasing for my own baking. It was an amazing evening and we look forward to doing another class in the future!

Chef Zach was an absolute gem. :) We parked, walked up to the door, and he opened the front door without us having to knock. He had his entire kitchen prepared for us so that all we had to do was whisk or pour or laugh at his jokes. We made white chocolate mousse with a strawberry sauce. It was absolutely delicious, and he made the entire class effortless. Taught us a lot about chocolate along the way and imparted great advice for an easier time with remaking it. Had a serving each while there, and he sweetly (;)) boxed up our extra servings to-go. Definitely recommend doing his chocolate class! It was a fun date, and the white chocolate mousse just melted in our mouths haha.

Case in point: many years ago I made a lamb cake for Easter. Growing up, my grandmother had always made one and I thought it would be fun to try. My young adult children at the time, named my creation a "Rat Cake." I can see how they might have come up with that. I used chocolate sprinkles as whiskers and now that I think about it, I don't think a lamb even has whiskers! :-) For the past couple of years I have gone to Cake Carousel for help in picking up the needed supplies to make a decent looking Easter lamb cake. My result has not been laughed at so, I'll take that as a win! Their tub of whipped buttercream is perfect! Not too sweet, reasonably priced and it spreads on great. They have precious candy flowers that instantly elevate your cake. The grandkids even had fun helping me decorate! I love this tradition that I'm able to carry on with my own grandkids, just as the happy memories I have with my grandmother so many years ago. Cake Carousel makes it happen!

The Alliance Francaise is a great place to learn or brush up on your French language skills or…read moresimply connect with the French culture. They have branch locations all over the world, and I was delighted to find one in Dallas that was nearby. I actually have a degree in French, but like anything, if you don't use it, you lose it. There was at least 20 years of dust and cobwebs to wipe off my broken language skills. I specifically went to AFD to brush up on my conversation skills before heading to Paris. The AFD has a variety of French classes at every level. If you are new to the language, take one of their submersion classes to build your foundation quickly or slog away with their once a week classes which are often 2 hours. Either way, you will eventually get to a point of basic proficiency. If you are more advanced, you can take their free online placement test to see which class to register for. I took the test, but opted to dive into their conversation classes instead of their regular classes. The latter requires you to purchase textbooks, but the former does not. The conversation class was very small. It ranged between 5-7 students. A student that was there one week might be gone the next, and sometimes new people would show up. The student to teacher ratio was always very low. I got to know the other students in the class quite well. We even met for a brown bag lunch at AFD to continue practicing our French outside of class. My conversation class met for two hours during the weekday. They also offer night and weekend classes. Some classes last 8 weeks, others are much shorter. My conversation class was about 4 weeks, but the teacher gave us an option to extend for two more weeks. The French Language for Travelers met just 4 times. There are also one day workshops occasionally. My conversation teacher was Parisian and regularly engaged us in partner work and games to keep us entertained and learning in a fun, safe space. The class was conducted entirely in French. Some students were more advanced than others, but we all helped each other out when we were stuck finding the right word or conjugation. I really appreciated that the teacher didn't stop to correct us. We were free to make mistakes and build our confidence through use of the language. The teacher helped when we asked her for help, otherwise, she simply provided the class structure and guidance in doing the activities. AFD also has lots of specialty classes like pronunciation, grammar, literature and French for travelers. The French for Travelers goes over all of the basic vocabulary you would need to survive in the francophone world for vacation. It was a great review for me, but others seemed to be overwhelmed with the amount of material. We also had very little time to actually practice what we learned, but I was thankful for the review and an additional opportunity to hear and speak the language in a safe space. It is worth becoming a member of the AFD. Members get a discount on class registration. Also, you have access to a library where you can check out books and videos. There are cultural events each month, and even cooking classes. My favorite part of the membership was the automatic enrollment in Cultureteque, an online library. It has newspapers, books and novels in French. If you are new to the language, there are books designed just for language learning. They have easy readers with vocabulary explanations in the margins and an aural option for having the books read to you. This is great for improving your listening and pronunciation skills. They even have reading comprehension checks at the end of each chapter. There are books for children, teens and adults. Wherever you are, be sure to find your local Alliance Francaise so you can immerse yourself in the French language and culture. It is an amazing organization. I wish they had the same for other languages.

I missed the first class that was last week because the website listed it as starting today. 3 students showed up like me today and 3 began last week. That's why I'm not giving a 5. Class was informative and the instructor was very patient and a native speaker. Accent was totally French but sure it's great to learn from a native with real-life scenarios and context. A bit challenging to me since I felt lost considering that I didn't attend last week. But everyone insisted I keep this course instead of waiting for the next term. So I have a lot of studying to do! Classes are for 2 hrs each wk. $240 plus membership for $40 (gives you access to events at a discounted rate for a yr). Oh and book is $70- yes it's quite expensive. Not sure if I have to buy another book in the next course. I don't understand anything in the textbooks as their all in French... Not even instructions...Term is for a month and a half (if I recall correctly).
