I've been to a couple different painting studios and I've always had an enjoyable time and experience. My first impression of the building and studio was that it was a bit outdated and the inside of the studio looked older and less clean compared to many of the other studios I've visited. My girlfriend and I arrived about ten minutes earlier in hopes to get settled in and find a picture to paint. I was a bit disappointed to find that the studio was closed when we arrived. The instructor arrived about 5 minutes late for the start of class so it felt rushed getting the paints and everything set up for class. The canvases that were given to us were thin so I won't be able to hang this up unless I get it framed. This class gives you the freedom to choose what you want to paint opposed to everyone working on the same painting and the instructor goes step-by-step to guide you through the painting. As I am not a very artistic person, I found it to be a bit daunting having to paint the entire painting myself without specific guidance and step-by-step instructions. The instructor was funny and kept us entertained throughout the class. My friend and I still had an enjoyable girls night out but I really wish the studio was cleaner and the canvases were thicker and of better quality. read more

Tucked away off Main Street Frisco and close to unique restaurants and boutiques. Met at studio after dinner with wine and glasses in tow for a girls night out. We pre-booked and paid ahead. Instructor -Hope- was very funny and helpful. Every person picked their own picture and went to town. We had a great time and would definitely go back. Next time I will pick something I want to paint before I get there now that I know how it works. Recommend that owner spruce up/clean up the studio a little. Nothing expensive or cluttering, but a better atmosphere might draw more parties. Also, recommend a better sound system with fun music to keep the party upbeat. Finally, could invest into a small ice machine with a station for the byob. Maybe charge parties and extra dollar per person and include a bottle of water for each guest. read more

Full disclosure: I already somewhat knew Hope before I went, so judge for yourself if that makes my opinion less reliable. I had a really good time, and I felt like Hope did a good job of taking me through the process considering how completely devoid of artistic talent I am. I was really surprised at some of the negative reviews, but when I read through them, some things started to make sense. I'm not going to take your opinion seriously if you don't use ANY punctuation. Either you don't know how, or you are so upset that you can't think straight. If you are that upset over a paint party with the word "doodle" in the title, you are taking it WAY too seriously. I have several friends who've done similar BYOB and painting and thought I'd check this out after I saw it on Groupon. Went with my husband for an afternoon date and we had a blast! I liked how fun the atmosphere was and how you didn't need to know how to paint or draw in order to have fun. We had two artists in our class that would walk around and help you sketch out your painting with chalk and then come back around and give you help on which elements to add in order to make your paintings come to life. They provided endless paint and numerous paint brushes that would help with any design pattern you could think of. I loved the music that was played; it truly helped me get lost in what I was doing and before I knew it, 2.5 hours flew by. Definitely recommend going to anyone looking to try something new and bring home and pretty painting! read more

My boyfriend and I went on Thursday, we walked in really disappointed since the studio looks old and abandoned, not romantic at all for a date, there was only 2 other people in the class and we thought that it was going to boring as well; however, our instructor made everything more interesting, it was not the typical class where they tell you what to paint, she has an awesome attitude, pretty relaxed, positive, and makes you feel comfortable. The time passed by so fast that we didn't even thought about the snacks we brought, we had a lot of fun. I purchased a discount for this place on CBS local offers for painting class on a canvas. I tried to book an appointment months in advance of the coupon expiring but everything was filled up. I finally got a class a month (the last few spaces) after it expired but was told that I would only get credit for the purchase price of the voucher since it had expired. When I went to the class, There were at least 6 empty seats in the room. We were given a board to paint instead of a canvas. When I asked if it was extra for a canvas, they said they were out of them. I saw several painted boards on display in the room so I'm guessing that they decided to cut costs by switching to these boards instead of using canvases. The ladies who were running the class were very nice and offered to help if you wanted it. They did have a mandatory break where they made you stop painting. I didn't like this since you only had two hours to paint (other classes I've been to give you three hours). I would suggest going to E Galleries in Dallas over this place read more

Background info: I've been to Pinot's Palette in Houston and enjoyed the format of the place a lot more since they basically teach you how to paint something difficult. Here, you have the flexibility of choosing an image out of hundreds of printed out pictures. Cool... but too bad I selected something WAY out of my skill set since I didn't completely understand the premise of how this place was set up. Obviously my lack of artistic skills is not their fault, but considering how little they help you, I would suggest that they explain the process before pictures are selected. Star was taken off due to the overall messy nature of the place (especially the bathroom). One of our "instructors" was delightful, but the other one I really just wanted nothing to do with her. A friend and I came here on a Tuesday in June and it was 2 people for $30. This past Tuesday we arrive expecting to pay the same amount and were surprised to see that they increased the price to $39 for 2 people. Not a problem except once we paid we were disappointed to see that all of the previous painting samples were gone, only to be replaced with more complex images. The concept of this place, or so we thought, was to create something that looked professionally done. To be able to achieve this one must have options within their skill set. This is a cute little paint studio. You come in, get your canvas as you pay, pick a design that you like (everyone can pick their own different design and their are tons to choose form), grab a palette of paint, and wait for them to go over their instructions. The instructions were really just to let loose and that the more you think about it and worry about it the worse it will look. For my class the price was only $25, canvas was smaller than I was expecting but liked the free range we had to all do out own picture. I've been to another studio similar to this in the past but everyone painted the same picture and they walked you through step by step. They offer any guidance you want al the way through the process. The whole process took about two hours but we got a late start due to a large group in attendance. I am happy to finally have some art work to match and hang in my bathroom and would love to go again. read more

Hope arrived 1 hour late to set up. Party started at 7:30pm and she arrived at 7:30pm to set up. When I texted her and asked if she was near or on her way she texted, "I will let you know when I arrive.." a simple ETA or an apology for the delay would've been so much more professional. She spent a good part the evening sitting and painting the canvases for us. For me, I personally prefer a little correction and instruction. I wanted to paint my canvas. That's the point of a painting party. I also was bummed a friend couldn't stay to paint her art work since there was a 1 hr delay. read more

Update to my review: I received an email from Sip-n-Doodle on the 23rd, shortly after the class, that had been buried in my inbox until right now. I was refunded for the class that I took because they were training a new instructor (which was not disclosed during the class...and there was no one in there "training" her but, ok). Based on that, I'm upping my rating from 2 stars to 3 since many of my comments below could be explained by her inexperience. ******************** This is my 5th time attending a Sip-n-Doodle "class," so I obviously like them. Unfortunately, I had a drastically different experience at the Frisco location as compared to my Plano ones. If this was my only exposure, I would not be returning. The location is pretty nice and I could see walking around after to grab dinner, etc but interior of the space is extremely run down and actually pretty dirty (I understand it's a paint studio, but the toilet can still be clean.) It didn't appear the instructor had prepared for the class. Many of the containers holding the paint were clogged and at least two were nearly empty, prompting the instructor to have to perch a larger empty bottle on top of them to refill during the class. The medium sized brushes had just been cleaned, and were still wet (which can affect how they transfer paint to your canvas.) We ran out of paper towels. The wine glasses seemed dirty, there was old popcorn in the popcorn machine...etc, etc. The instructor herself seemed nice but didn't provide a lot of information. Meaning, it's a room full of people that are probably not artists so we need some instruction. During the courses I have taken from Stacy at the Plano location, she goes though describing the order in which things should be painted (for example, cover your whole canvas with your background then go back and paint the middle and then the foreground), That said, she was helpful one on one and talented in her sketches from what I saw. Perhaps she is normally an assistant or something. Lastly, in the other classes I have taken we were provided with popcorn, offered the option to buy frames and ended the evening with a "competition" where you get to walk around and vote on who had the best painting. Not a huge deal, but it does make the experience a little different. All in all, it could have just been an off night with a new instructor (it was 12/23) but I won't take my chances with this location again. read more

My only big complaint is the building. We went to the location in Frisco off of Main. It's literally in shambles and a complete dump. It's hard to have a romantic date when you're afraid that the ceiling tiles may come down on you. Yuck. I was disappointed too when we were given our canvases. I was expecting a thick canvas to hang but instead we were given a thin one that we would have to frame. Definitely wasn't worth $29/person (not including reservation fees). Hope and her assistant were nice but it's complete BS that for $29/person, they only get paid by tips. RIDICULOUS! Pay your people!!!! Ok! This was my first time at Sip-n-Doodle. Sheer and utterly the best date, BFF, just to hang out activity. Whitney (the host) was absolutely a delight. She demonstrated the necessary professionalism and charm throughout the event. You could also tell she has a creative mind and can out paint everyone in the class. We have a coupon to go here. It is next to impossible to schedule. We had to schedule 45 days in advance because on their website shows all class with "no availability". So, now we have had a scheduling conflict. When you try to call the phone number listed all you get is a message referring you to the website or an e-mail address. Here we are June 3rd and June is full on the website and there are no classes even listed for July or August. From reading previous reviews, you can pretty much guess what will be coming. The coupon expires and you will only get credit for what you paid for the coupon. You have to ask yourself, what is the point here. We have been to "Painting With A Twist" and had a really enjoyable evening. It was easy to reserve, to find, and to participate. First, I want to say that the employees were great. They were helpful and friendly. This review should in no way reflect badly upon them. I have been to other, similar places and was shocked at how run-down this store is. The ceiling tiles are falling down, the bathroom was gross, and there was only one tiny sink. There are very few sample drawings to look at on the walls. The plastic containers of xeroxed sheets that are supposed to give you ideas are woefully in need of updating. All of the supplies looked like it could be chucked in the trash. Even the easel threatened to fall down the entire time. Whoever owns this place needs to spend some money fixing it up. Creativity definitely flows here. Unlike other BYOB painting places, Sip N Doodle lets you pick out what you want to paint. You can ask for as much or as little help as you want or need. A group of us went for a girl's night on a Groupon ($20 I think?). We had a great time and we loved the playlist as well. We prebooked a party for a group of 12 about 3 weeks out. We also prepaid. The owner was great in setting up link for registration and accommodating our time. We show up with our food, wine and ready for a fun evening with friends to discover that they had double booked and there was no room for our group. They had no solution but to show up later that night. The other group came at the wrong time it was not asked to leave or reschedule. They also were paying on arrival. Many in our group had made childcare arrangements or had work In the morning so the best they could do was refund our money. We were having a going away for a coworker and we won't have time to reschedule before she moves. Very disappointing!! read more

It was great fun! Nobody cares if it's your first time or twentieth, there was help when you wanted it, and you got to pick what you wanted to paint. This place is kinda awesome!!! I came in with ZERO artistic skills and left with a bad azz painting! Do not come here expecting fancy...because it is not. The space is in an old office type of building, with a wall separating the front and back rooms. The tables are covered with tacky Christmas tablecloths and paint. Once the students begin to arrive the atmosphere becomes much more fun! They do give you a canvas board to paint on, and you get to choose what you want to paint, you can even bring your own ideas from home!! This was my 3rd visit to Sip n Doodle, and it was great fun as usual. It's a great laid back night out that doesn't break the bank. The instructors are very helpful and knowledgeable. I like it because you pick the subject of your painting, instead of everyone painting the same boring picture. The instructors give you as much or little help as you desire. We had such a great experience here! We wanted to plan something fun and different for our anniversary, so we decided on one of these painting classes. We had originally booked at another place and they cancelled on us hours before! Not going to mention any names cough*Bottles and Bottega*cough .. So we scrambled, freaked out, got disappointed, all that jazz. Then I came across Sip-n-Doodle. It was a lot cheaper, like less than half the price! And you get to paint whatever you want! Sweet, because the last thing I wanted was 2 of the same art work up in our house. We arrived a few minutes before the class started and the gal was super friendly. She explained to us how things worked, and we got started. The class is 2 hours long. The time went by so fast.. time flies when you're having fun! Our art came up super cute, thanks to her knowledge and suggestions on colors to use, brush strokes, all that stuff. We were so pleased. We plan on making coming here a habit! Groupon users take note: if your voucher is expired you will have to pay difference of total class rather than difference of other groupon. I had bought a groupon in October and planned to go in December with girlfriends. The day we had planned happened to be the first ice storm. We called and asked sip n doodle if we would be able to reschedule for a different day and still have full class covered. They guaranteed us we would. Fast forward to April when we are able to go and I called and asked them again if groupon would cover class and they said yes. Got to class and they said I owed full difference of class and groupon. That's 35 minus 17 when I already had paid 17 for the full class. I reminded them what they had told me on the phone and they pretended they had never suggested such a thing. My husband was mad and we were pretty frustrated but so as to not cause a scene we ended up paying. Not only that but we got a dinky canvas where other people got nice large canvases. The groupon doesn't mention you'll get less than the other students. This left a sour taste in my mouth. The class itself was fun ( even though I did feel like the instructors were kind of giving others more attention than us.). The pictures turned out well and we went home with cute paintings but were still feeling like the groupon was a scam. Don't fall for it if they tell you you can use the expired groupon. read more

This place was so much fun! I loved our instructor because she was so energetic and encouraging and made you feel like you were always doing a great job even if you've never painted before in your life (aka me). Before you come in, you should pick out a painting/image you want to paint. If you forget to, don't fret because you can look one up on your smartphone when you get there or pick from one of their printed images. It's not like other places like this where everyone paints the same image and the teacher teaches you step by step how to do it -- this place is really all about you letting loose and discovering your own innate abilities to paint. You'll find that after a couple glasses of wine and a few deep breaths, you can actually be that artist you've always wanted to be. The instructor walks around the whole time to answer questions and help people with technique, but she's mostly there to cheer you on. I do not recommend this place at all. they do not answer email they do not return phone calls. we did get one email changing our reservation from Plano to Frisco due to a flood. but no one would answer our questions about whether or not we still had a private room that was big enough for us to bring our own food. when we got to the Frisco location, the people there were very rude. our reservation was for 6 o'clock, but there were still people painting that we're only halfway finished with their paintings at 630. after having driven 2 hours to get there, we left without painting because we did not know how long it would be before we could get in. horrible horrible business practices. read more

We pre-paid for a reservation for seven on a Saturday afternoon - 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. (two small families together). We arrived a few minutes early and found the place dark and the door locked. There was another small group waiting, so we waited too. We were patient until about 4:10 when there was still no staff and more people were waiting. At 4:20 someone called the owner and was told the staff was on her way and that if we left we could be refunded but if we stayed we would get a voucher for a future visit. We were also told they would just shift the next group to start later if need be so we could get our full two hours. As we were giving up and walking away at 4:35, the staff person arrived, apologized, and told us she didn't know she was on the schedule. We ended up staying because several in the party had their hearts set on it (understandably). We had so much fun with the actual painting and definitely made some memories. Someone in one of the other groups asked about the vouchers and the staff person had no clue about them, but she wrote each of our names down with the number of people in our parties. It is now Wednesday and I have not received any communication about a voucher. I would have expected that they would have wanted to leave a better impression after the rocky start. read more
