I've had a great experience at Cake Carousel! The staff is super helpful and kind. They have lots of supplies to assist in meeting your baking goals. Case in point: many years ago I made a lamb cake for Easter. Growing up, my grandmother had always made one and I thought it would be fun to try. My young adult children at the time, named my creation a "Rat Cake." I can see how they might have come up with that. I used chocolate sprinkles as whiskers and now that I think about it, I don't think a lamb even has whiskers! :-) For the past couple of years I have gone to Cake Carousel for help in picking up the needed supplies to make a decent looking Easter lamb cake. My result has not been laughed at so, I'll take that as a win! Their tub of whipped buttercream is perfect! Not too sweet, reasonably priced and it spreads on great. They have precious candy flowers that instantly elevate your cake. The grandkids even had fun helping me decorate! Okay, I came here reluctantly to take a cookie decorating class when my daughter at last minute could not go so she asked me if I would take her place. If I said I wasn't dreading spending time in a cookie decorating class I wouldn't be telling the truth! Boy was I wrong, I had a blast! This is a cute shop. They have everything you need to make a cake, cookies, etc. They have baking pans in crazy designs like dearth vador! My cake lady brought me here so we could decide on a cake size for my wedding. They allowed us to use a table and play with all the styrofoam layers. The succulent decorations class was fun but with some flaws. After paying a hefty fee for the class, we were given a long laundry list of items to buy plus making our own cupcakes. Each person had to bring all of the items (or purchase them at the store for significantly more than ordering supplies directly from Wilton), which almost doubled the total cost of the class. Some of the tools that I wouldn't have wanted to own after the class, but I own them now anyway. They instructor did a decent job of showing techniques, but not a great job at managing time, so we ended up putting not fully set succulents on our self-made cupcakes and then being hustled out of the room. On top of all that, I thought their icing was too sweet with a strange flavor to boot. I threw out all of my cupcakes because of the icing. read more

I purchased the succulent cupcake decorating class for my mom and sister for Christmas. This is something we've been wanting to do for awhile so we've been pretty excited about it. After booking a $60/ per person class, they then made it very clear to tell you that you need to bring all of your own supplies from a list of items they provide, as well as bringing your own cupcakes. None of which were transparent with in further pricing. All they provided for the class was the icing. I'm surprised those things aren't included in the price for the class. After spending another $35+ per person on supplies, we arrived to the class and received poor customer service while purchasing the items. Now to the actual class... the class experience was fairly decent until the end. We were informed after piping all of our room temperature icing succulents that we didn't have time to refrigerate the succulents to place on the cupcakes. We had to assemble our cupcakes with icing that was not firm enough to transport onto a cupcake, let alone out of the store. Needless to say, mine didn't turn out nearly as well as I anticipated and was pretty disappointed in the level of care our instructor showed for her short comings of her methods of teaching the class allowing for this incident. The "icing on the cake" was probably the fact that they then made us purchase boxes to transport our cupcakes home. Yet, ANOTHER purchase! Very disappointed, as were my mom and sister, with our experience. I was potentially interested in doing another decorating class before all of this, but I don't plan to waste more money on a mediocre, overpriced experience. read more

My boyfriend and I got a cookie decorating class groupon to try it out, forgot the exact price but whatever it was was totally worth it! Neither of us have had any real baking experiences but that didn't matter at all, the teachers were very informative and helpful, we were also impressed with a camcorder set up zoomed in to what the instructor was doing so we could see it clearly from where ever we were in the room. We were handed a few pages of baking recipes of how they prepared the sample cookies provided for us to decorate on, while explained in full by instructors in case there were any questions from students. Then proceeded on the decorating, showing us on their own cookies and explaining what was being used at the same time. There were so many things to go over and different techniques to pass on that the second half of the class seemed a little rushed in order to get us out on time. We had about 15 people in the class ranging from a 13 year old to adults, my boyfriend being the only guy hehehe, anyway, everyone's cookies turned out very nicely decorated I would say the class was a success for everyone! I was baking a cake for my friends birthday and lacking any large nice serving plates I needed a way to get it from my apartment to the house. Do you have any idea how hard it is to find a cake box in this city? After stopping by two grocery stores and a bakery it was finally suggested I go here. They hooked me up with the cake box and everything I needed. If I had more time I would of bought some more to try and decorate it a bit nicer. Shelves and shelves of supplies. She told me how I could just use a round platter and cut out cardboard in a heart shape. The people are friendly and helpful. My best friend and I took a cookie decorating class and had a great time. I had a little base knowledge of Royal icing and cookie decorating but she did not. We both learned a lot and had fun. The only downside was that the teacher sped things up a little towards the end of the class so it was hard to follow along. I think a few of the cookies were kindof basic so they could be taken out of the class to make more time. Overall it was a lot of fun and I'm planning to take more classes with them in the future. Normally I receive great service when I visit Cake Carousel to purchase my cake items. Today I visited the store for gum paste flowers to add to my 40th birthday cake. The associate assisting me gladly pulled out each flower I wanted to look at until I finally settled on the water lily I was purchasing. I was buying all 3 in the box. I also had leaf fillers, leaf dust, and brushes. The board had a price of $10.99 for the water lillies, but when the associate scanned the box label, the price on the box was $12.99. She grabbed another associate to figure out what to do, and then waited for the manager. There was no price correction, and I was simply told "my boy put the wrong price on the board". Bought my wife and 5 yr old daughter a Groupon cookie decorating class for 2 session and scheduled it for last week. They both had a great time, so that was a success! The store is located off the access road in a business park type area. The signage and elevation of the store looks stale and drab. The interior of the store feels like a 90's office building. They sell baking supplies and offer classes, and I assume that their bread and butter is their classes. If the curb appeal and interior wete modernly updated without linoleum flooring and old display units, I would have given them 5 stars, but for the pure joy and experience of my wife and daughter, it met and exceeded expectations. I watch a lot of cake decorating shows and am therefore an expert at decorating cakes, myself (not true). Cake Carousel is there for me in my time of need. Need of sprinkles, that is. And fondant. I most recently ventured to Cake Carousel because of Oprah. You see, my cousin was graduating college and saw some "sparkling "cupcakes on Oprah, and demanded they be present at her graduation party. Easy enough, right? Make cupcakes, douse them in champagne and gonache, and add sparklers. Finding sparklers in January- not so easy. Guess who had them! Not Michaels, WalMart, or Hobby Lobby. But Cake Carousel did :) And they also have pans for every shape cake you want to make, candy melts in every color of the rainbow, candles for every theme, and thousands of other items you didn't know you desperately needed until you walked in and saw them. I have driven past this place on 75 and Arapaho all my life but never knew what it was. It was not until the recommendation of a local bakery that lead me here for the first time, and believe me, they have everything bakery related. Everything from molds to decorations to ingredients they had, and in multiple varieties. We were looking for pastry boxes and they had all sorts of sizes in white and pink. They prices seemed reasonable for what we bought, but since I'm not a baker, I cannot comment on the prices for everything else. The staff was friendly and helpful. However I had to re-focus and continue on my mission to find meringue powder. Although Cake Carousel isn't the biggest store I've been in, it does take a while to navigate through the maze of pans, decorating tools, colors, and other items. Not wanting to drive to Euless, I turned to my fellow Yelpers (you fabulous people you) who introduced me to this mecca of baking supplies. Rows upon rows, shelves upon shelves of molds, candy melts and cookie cutters, it's a cake decorator's dream come true. I found exactly what I was looking for and then some. The women are very helpful and knowledgeable... I told Tammye the problem I had been having with my melts and she told me why I was having it and what to do to fix it! They do offer classes for the hard-core decorators... I think it may be awhile before I'm at that level. For now, I'll stick with the cute shoe cookie cutter and little Longhorn molds that I didn't know I needed until I saw them. read more

I loved our wedding cakes from Cake Carousel. I'm sorry it's taken so long to write this review. We had a JP wedding and a party at our home a week later. We had the most delicious bride's cake I've ever tasted. I usually prefer the groom's cake if that says anything. We went with the ever so slight amaretto (almond) for the bridal cake. I had my reservations before I sampled it, but it BLEW my tastebuds away! For the record, I'm not into fruit in my cakes, so that was my choice. I'm sure if you prefer that, it would be scrumptious. We found this place because we live down the road and my mom saw it, went inside and made us a tasting appointment. I am so glad we did. It wasn't pretentious and thus, I feel we didn't pay a pretentious price for one of the best cakes of my life! Relatively new to baking and wanting to expand my skills with cake decorating, I searched the internet and found CC. Signed up for a beginners class {$70 per person} and was super excited to get started and learn all the tricks. What they don't mention and proceed to teach you during half of the first of five sessions is: you, as the student, are responsible for bringing or purchasing a long list of items {20-30+ items} and NOTHING is provided except one pre-baked box cake for week two lesson. Everything else and I mean everything else is up to the student to bring or purchase from them. You'll "need" everything from extracts, cakes and frosting you bake and bring to class to tools/gadgets, paper towels and expensive cake turntables and spatulas. If you're on a budget or just find yourself curious about cake decorating but don't have $300+ to blow, save yourself a lot of money and watch YouTube videos. If you have a lot of these items already it might be a great way to just spend $70 and expand your craft. read more
