They text you when your item(s) are ready for pickup so you don't have to wonder how close to closing time you need to show up. The owners were friendly and helpful. Dexter Dry Cleaners (with their natural ingredients) wasn't able to get any of my natural body odor out of my professional work dresses last month. I even gave them a 2nd chance and they failed miserably. I'm so glad that I've found Helena's. My downtown apartment uses them. With Helena's Cleaner's...Oh my GAWD! Spectacular. Today I just received my first item back; a Givenchy black trench. I was so concerned about them not being able to get out the body odor of sweating in the jacket throughout my winter wear. That's because they use "natural chemicals" and I was skeptical. I've never been able to see those work and in Scottsdale where I'm from, we didn't have those. I unpackaged my returned coat today, took the plastic off, gave it a sniff, and literally exclaimed aloud, "Oh my God...spectacular." But Dexter failed to surprise and delight like that. Owner is old-school miserable and rude, from an era that seems to pre-date Yelp and customer service altogether. Advantaged by location in an area with few other dry cleaners, he was so bizarrely rude today that I will make an extra effort to go to Belltown for my dry cleaning, even though Dexter Dry Cleaners is a few blocks away. Story: 6 laundered shirts, Wednesday 8:30am. Asked me if Friday was OK to return. I asked if we could do Thursday, he said sure. Pay later. Returned Thursday at 6pm after I received a text that shirts were ready. He charged me $23: for 6 laundered shirts!! When i asked why, he said I ordered expedited service. When i said that he did not notify me that receiving them next day was expedited, he responded "that's how we've always done it here." He then proceeded to tutor me on the process of laundering shirts and why 36 hour turnaround was indeed expedited. Be that as it may, my point was that the store does not have a price list, and that it was his obligation to let me know upfront that I would be charged DOUBLE by asking for them next day. His response here killed me: "so are you arguing with me so that I can give you $6 back? Is that what you want?" I said that if he cared for my repeat business, he should do what he thought was right by me as the customer. He knocked off $6, which was still not normal price for laundered shirts (in fact, still 50% more). As I walked out the door, he said: "and hey, next time, remember that normal time is two days. Otherwise you pay more." This guy doesn't get it. A shame, since it's so close to my place. But he also won't be getting my business anymore. read more

I've only had very positive experiences at Dexter Dry Cleaners. I've had numerous bad experiences at other cleaners around the city, so even though I live in Fremont, I am still willing to make the trek since they do such a good job. The prices are reasonable and my clothes have always come back looking great. The owner's wife does a fabulous job with alterations too--she made a faux fur vest that I bought a whole size smaller, which I wasn't sure would even be possible. She has great attention to detail--my boyfriend wanted elbow patches for a sweater and she recommended the perfect color/fabric. Seems like a pretty easy job, but 2 other places have messed that up. She will replace buttons for free. The owner is very friendly and recognizes his regular customers. The fact that there are 2 reserved parking spots in the building's garage is also a huge plus! read more

This place does a fantastic job! I came here make alterations on my Helly Hansen raincoat. The seams started to come out so I took it here to try to get it fixed, when I got it back it looked amazing, you could hardly tell that it had work done on it. I switched dry cleaners about three months ago after having far too many shirts ruined, poorly laundered/dry cleaned, etc. at the place at the top of Queen Anne. Having passed by this place on my way home every day, I decided to give it a try. I'm very glad that I did. The husband / wife (my assumption) that manage this place are extremely friendly, very competent, take the time to look at each of the items you bring you for any hidden stains, tears, places that require attention. They offer alternative suggestions for laundering/dry cleaning based on their experience. They do free button replacements. They even do alterations which is quick rare for most dry cleaners these days. They also turnaround very quickly relative to other places I've been to. When you receive each of your shirts back, you are provided extra collar stays, and shirts are neatly packaged and have the arms clipped together to avoid wrinkling. I would highly recommend this place. Their prices are on par with anywhere else, so you're not going to save money, but the quality is much higher, making it a wise choice. read more

I took my suit jacket and shirt in to be cleaned and have the jacket adjusted. The young lady who served me was professional, courteous and very quick in her measurements, making this a very simple and painless experience. The final result was fantastic; my shirts, which were dry clean only, were clean and presentable for the wedding I was attending, the quality of the stitching on the jacket was fantastic and the turnaround time for the suit jacket was only 2 days without any extra charge, which was phenomenal. I have been meaning to write a review for some time now. I have been using Dexter Cleaners for about 6 months now. I bring a batch of stuff every two weeks, so they know me by name now. I am always impressed with the speed and quality of their service. I have had at least 6 items altered now including a dress, fixing a hole, seems and so on. Every item has come back fitting perfectly. It is really hard to find a good seamstress. The couple who owns/runs the shop are lovely and would recommend them to anyone. I had been here several times over the last 1.5 years as I live within just a few blocks. It was fine - and extremely convenient. However I will NOT be going back. I brought in a sweater that I got less than two months ago, had worn twice, and then brought to Dexter Dry Cleaners. When I got it back it looked completely pilled - like it was a year+ old and worn many, many times. I went and bought a replacement and brought that in Dexter Dry Cleaners to show how the sweater was ruined at their store. The gentleman (owner?) who is always the one working and has seen me several times wouldn't do anything about the sweater. He basically told me the material of the sweater can do that. Why wouldn't he have warned me of that in advance?!? He wouldn't do a refund for the "cleaning" (damaging) of the sweater or any type of compensation for the replacement I had to get. He just told me to deal with the store where I had gotten it. I was already pretty annoyed that he wouldn't help out in any way but what confirmed I would never be back is that I also had to pick-up two other tops I had there when I went to discuss the sweater issue. He offered NO discount on the other tops I was picking up - NOTHING! I had to pay $20 for two shirts. I think he should have not charged me for them at all, but at the very least some sort of discount to indicate caring for customers. Obviously they don't. I hope the $5, $10, or $20 they saved was worth losing a loyal customer. Seems they have no awareness of/care for customer service 101. Ridiculous. read more

When I came there the owner told me that clothes will be ready in 4 days. Ok. but when I came to pick it up my scarf was completely ruined, all the threads were coming out. This was the worst dry cleaning experience I have ever had. It was so bad, in fact, that I waited a few months to write this review because I wanted to make sure I was thinking rationally. If you're interested in the story, read below. Otherwise, just save yourself the worst dry cleaning nightmare ever, and pick a different dry cleaner. Story: It was my first time using dexter dry cleaners. I dropped off my clothes and agreed on a pick up date. When I went to pick up my clothes, the male working told me none of my items were ready and I'd have to come back. I was leaving for a business trip which was why I needed the clothes in the first place, so my pick up time was non-negotiable. When I asked what was going on, he told me his wife never should have agreed to a promised pick up time (which was 4 or 5 days, by the way). I then asked if he had my phone number in the system, to which he replied yes. I asked why he never called me to notify me that they wouldn't be able to make the agreed upon deadline. He told me they never notify customers until they come in to pick up their clothes (that aren't ready) at the agreed time. It gets worse. So, fast forward to the following week. I went back to pick up my items and not only did he still make me pay full price and offered no discount for the hassle, but my silk shirts had water stains on them and the spots that i pointed out when I dropped them off were still on the shirt even though I watched them mark the areas with dry cleaner tape. Point is, it was an awful experience with horrible customer service. If yelp would let me, I'd give them no stars instead of one. Save yourselves the headache and use a different dry cleaner. read more

I have had items altered there so my review is based on this. Quality of the sewing was good on the first few items but wasn't done correctly on the last one. It was very simple to do and to correct, so she re-did it, but it still wasn't done right (I think she was just in a rush) so she corrected it again and then it was fine. The problem was that she was incredibly rude to me the whole time and even glared at me right in the eyes as I was leaving. I don't think this was an appropriate way to treat a customer. The last few times, she hasn't been rude but was never friendly either. The guy is friendly though so as long as you get him, you're ok. The text-when-ready is a nice feature although this didn't happen with my last alteration. read more

I wanted to get 2 dresses hemmed and I do not feel the man who measured for the alteration did professional or confident work. Dexter Dry Cleaners was the closest dry cleaning service to my house in SLU, so I decided to give them a try. Bear with me with this review, it has a happy ending! One of my custom dancing dresses was mangled during the cleaning. Its made of brushed satin and there must have been something beaded or very rough in with it, because it came out with a bunch of slubs everywhere (the fabric threads were pulled out, making a pronounced, unsightly bump) I noticed it the same day so took it back, hoping they could fix it. They did the best they could, but the dress was ruined. The gentleman and his wife were very sympathetic, and offered right away to reimburse me for the dress (a $130 value, not chump change!) and they wrote me a check. I found the rest of my clothing absolutely beautiful and well pressed, and will definitely be coming back to them with most of my things. Be careful with your delicate fabrics, and you can always ask the opinion of who's behind the counter, they will give you an honest opinion! read more

I brought in my two favorite jeans to have re-patched, they had holes in the inseams. They did a fantastic job. When I went in, the seamstress was there and gave me a quote of $5/patch. When I picked them up, she had done an excellent job. The stitching was very close together and is going to hold up to a lot of wear. She chose a thread color to match the jeans so the work wouldn't be too noticeable. And she had to do far more patching then she initially thought, but didn't charge me extra. Overall, she did a very thorough job with a lot of attention for detail. She definitely thought about how the jeans were going to wear and tried to preempt future damage.
