"Don't believe the Hype" I was driving home from New Haven and stopped at Dew Drop Inn for some wings and beer. I sat at the bar and ordered a Founders Sumatra Mountain Brown Ale from the huge list of beers. I wanted some hot wings, but I also wanted to taste the peanut butter and jelly wings. I love peanut butter so it sounded interesting. I asked if I could order a dozen wings with two sauce flavors. It's rediculous, they only allow one sauce per order. Even Buffalo Wild Wings allows more than one sauce flavor per order. Being that I was alone, I wasn't about to place two orders just to taste both flavors. I was disappointed, but ordered 7 wings to taste the PB & J wings. I've had wings before with peanut butter sauce and they were delicious. These wings were ok. I wouldn't suggest for someone else to try them. The plating of the wings had no visual appeal at all. It appears that the wings were tossed in the peanut butter and then dropped on the plate. And then a big glob of jelly is dumped in the middle. I ate some of the wings because I was hungry, but it was off putting to see a pile of greasy grape jelly when I was done. I assumed they would arrange the peanut butter wings on the plate and make a nice jelly dipping sauce on the side. Instead, they use a small cup of marshmellow fluff for dipping. Seriously..... fluff with wings? You might have read all the magazine hype in regards to Dew Drop Inn having some of the best wings in CT. The staff was very friendly and attentive. I had the spicy honey mustard wings from here and they were very good - the sauce wasnt spicy though. The prices are a little high, but they can get away with it because of the notoriety. Im knocking off one star because of the service. I went on a thursday night and it was busy but not crazy. Had to ask for water 2-3 times and our waitress wasnt super friendly. Im sure they get a whole lot of "whats the best flavor" and i bet it gets annoying, but she was clearly annoyed with the questions we were asking. I got attitude when i asked her to explain the happy hour drink specials. The wings themselves are very crispy and hard fried. I didnt mind them this way but some people might. On a brewery hopping day one can get a little hungry. Low and behold almost right next to bad sons beer company resides the dew drop inn. Parking is kind of temperamental as there not allot right there. We walked in the place is dark and loud inside. We shared a table with some other people and that's the fun community meeting type atmosphere. I ordered the garlic parm bacon wings. All the flavor was there but the bacon ends up on the plate when done. The peanut butter jelly wings I was eating and I felt they were very gloopy it wasn't until I had one wing left that I found out about the fluff dipping sauce tried it and was amazing. I wanted to come here forever and was pretty disappointed. We were there on a Tuesday night but the place was packed. We had to park up the street and wait once we got inside. I ordered the pb&j and the jalapeño cream cheese wings. Both seemed very poorly executed with the sauces just kind of globbed on top of the wings. I should use the words sauces loosely. Toppings might be a better way to describe them. My fiancee got a few other kinds that were ok but not impressive. From the outside, this looks like a standard Valley dive bar. I grew up in the Valley, and really don't mean that as an insult...it's just pretty nondescript from the outside and you expect to go in and just see a few locals hanging at the bar watching TV. However, when we went inside (mid afternoon on a Sunday), it was jammed!!! Every table filled, people waiting everywhere. My only complaint would be that on my first time, it was hard to figure out what to do as far as putting my name on a list or just grabbing a table as it opened. But my husband went up to the bar and asked and we got on the list. We got seated pretty quickly, I think it helped we were a table of two, they seated us at a shared table in the back with another party of two (but with a couple seats in between us). They have a pretty good list of craft beers, but they do have other beers too. They didn't give us a list of those, you just have to ask what they have on tap/in bottles. They brought our drinks very quickly, and we took some time to figure out what wings to order. Several of their appetizers sounded amazing, but we were there for wings and planning to order 3 orders of 10 so we could try more flavors, so there just was no room for apps. Maybe next time. One of the servers mentioned that they had recently closed for renovation and when they reopened, they had several special wing flavors to add to the menu. I counted them all up, 117 flavors of wings in total. How do you choose? I read reviews, asked friends who have been there in the past, asked the servers...everyone has a different favorite, it really is personal preference. So for our first two flavors we tried core stuff that we know we usually like. I opted for Honey Hot BBQ, and my husband got Spicy Asian Glaze. Then we threw in Peanut Butter and Jelly wings for a fun third selection. It took a while for the wings to come out, but they kept the drinks coming, so that was good. When they arrived they looked great. Large wings, heavily sauced, they remembered my ranch in addition to the blue cheese (that seems like the hardest thing for most people to remember for some reason), so I was happy. They also serve the PB&J wings with fluff, which is cute (and tasty)! Quality of the wings - amazing. Cooked perfectly, nice and crispy, just how I like them. Plenty of sauce. But I think I was a little disappointed in our sauce selections. I like honey BBQ and this was fine but was not "hot"...similarly, the Asian glaze was not "spicy." So I guess unless they show a pepper (or more than one pepper) next to the flavor, it's probably not spicy, regardless of the name. I didn't really like the Asian glaze, too sweet/gingery for me, there was just something about it that I did not personally like. But my husband loved them. The PB&J was okay. It's not the first time I've had that flavor, and the other place I had them did what I feel was a better job of incorporating PB + J together into a sauce that was equally distributed on the wings. These had peanut butter on them, and then globs of grape jelly on top. Like, big chunks. Not easy to eat together, and we had no utensils so I was grabbing globs of jelly with my hands and mushing them on top of the wings. Not my most graceful moment, but eating wings never usually is. I liked that they came with fluff, that was a nice touch. But I probably wouldn't order them again. Service was AMAZING. We didn't have one set server, all of the servers were running around helping everyone. We always had someone checking on us and everyone was super friendly. So...I will definitely be back to work my way through the other 114 flavors that I did not get to try on my first visit. Wings themselves are definitely some of the best I've ever had, so I just need to find that "WOW" flavor for myself and I'll be golden. I would also like to try some of the apps and the burgers looked great too! For those who mentioned bad parking - when you pass the restaurant on your right, continue up about half a block, and on the left there is a street, turn there and there is a parking lot right on the corner. It is very large and has ample parking. You need the walk to work off your drinks and food...so just park your car there, walk to the restaurant, and don't complain about it! :) read more

I was born in Griffin Hospital in Derby, Connecticut. Derby is the smallest city in the State of Connecticut. I have loyalty to Derby and I have found two hidden gems in the small city. One is Roseland Apizza and the other is the Dew Drop Inn. My first visit was Saturday April 19, 2014. I was researching different burgers in the New Haven Connecticut area and Dew Drop Inn was listed as ones to check out. The first burger I tried was the Rodeo Burger which is described as "Cheddar Cheese, Onion Rings, Bacon and BBQ Sauce. On my second visit I had the Blue Goat which is described as "Goat Cheese, Cucumbers, Mixed Greens and creamy blueberry dressing". On both visits my hamburgers were cooked exactly as I specified them to be, well done. I want them as hockey pucks and Dew Drop Inn delivered. Prime 16 in New Haven is still my favorite burger place but Dew Drop Inn deserves an honorable mention in the category. On one of my visits I brought my girlfriend from Ireland with me. We both shared the Fried Mozzarella Sticks and Jalapeno Poppers. Both were good and we both enjoyed them. I told different people about my three visits to the Dew Drop Inn. The one comment I constantly heard from different people was "you haven't tried their wings yet". On my fourth visit I ordered the Cajun BBQ Wings. I haven't had wings in years. I love the taste but they are messy. You do have to use your hands and sometimes lick your fingers. My mom would be horrified. The staff reassured me it was okay to be messy. Since then I have had the JD BBQ, Jim Beam Bourbon BBQ and General Tsao's wings. The Cajun BBQ Wings are my absolute favorite followed by the JD BBQ. Jim Beam Bourbon and General Tsao's tie for third. All these wings I have tried are phenomenal. This is most definitely a wing place. I overheard the owner talking about different craft beers they have. Craft beers are growing on me however I still prefer a Guinness with a shot of Jägermeister the best. The staff at Dew Drop Inn are excellent. I like the customers. Some of the customers can be load when they come in but will also say excuse me if they accidently bump into me on the way to the bathroom. One time there was this nice couple who brought in bread and was insistent that I had a piece. I am giving this place 4.2 stars. The only two drawbacks. One is the place is small and gets crowded very quick. The second is parking which seems to be limited which. These are the reasons why I try to arrive about 11:15 on a Saturday for lunch. Realized I never reviewed this place and I was shocked! This is one of my top 3 wing places in CT, their flavors are great, the wings are big and crispy and they have a great tap list. My favorite is the kickass bayou whether it's the wings or their grilled chicken wrap with this sauce. I also really liked their tots. I'm not even a big tots fan but I like these! I've had a bunch of their other flavors which range from nachos (that come out looking like nachos), Parmesan garlic, maple bacon, Asian chili, spicy honey mustard, etc. they have like 50 types and one of their most famous is pb&j with a side of fluff. Yes you heard right. So there are 3 reasons I gave 4 stars and not 5. Cause believe me the food is 5 if not more! 1. Depending on the day/night u can wait up to 45 mins for your food. It's a small place and what looks like an even smaller kitchen. However it's worth the wait! 2. I don't like the sizes the wings come in- you have no option, you get 10. So because they have so many flavors you want the option for smaller qty so you can try a lot but they just don't allow that. So my suggestion is come with a group so you each order one and share as a table. 3. It's a small place so big groups are hard to accommodate or you might show up and not have a seat for a while. If it wasn't for Yelp, I wouldn't have known about this place. It was a great find! We were in the area on Sunday afternoon, and figured this would be a perfect place for lunch. It doesn't look like much from outside, and there was a bouncer outside on a Sunday afternoon. I loved the music that was playing. A bunch of classic rock from the 70's. So many choices for sauce! Now, disclaimer - I'm more of a fan of boneless wings.(so much easier to eat and not messy!) However, I know they did not have any boneless wings here and if I had to try some of their amazing sauces I would have to order traditional wings. This was actual the first full order of traditional wings I ever had. My husband and I each picked one flavor, and shared them. Our server was incredibly nice. She asked us if it was our first time (I suppose we had that look!) and she explained the process, and some of the favorites, how spicy some sauces are, etc. We started off with a ceasar salad. They only have one size salad, and I was expecting a larger type bowl with the salad in it. However, since she knew we were splitting it, they even split the salad for us into two separate bowls! Very nice touch. The wings come in order of 10. We decided to get the kickass bayou and one of the favorites our server mentioned, the parm butter bacon garlic. They were both very flavorful. I liked the kickass bayou a little more than the parm butter bacon garlic. The kickass bayou had just a little kick of spice, not very spicy (well at least for me) but the flavor was amazing. The place offers up an awesome vibe. The food is very down-home cooking, including the hands-down best tater tots on the planet! The prices are reasonable too. The number of taps dedicated to an impressive list of craft beers is as good as I have seen anywhere in CT. And, I haven't even gotten to the best part.... The service is wonderful. Our server, Leah, was kind, funny, responsive, informative and patient (when we asked nearly 100 questions about their ga-zillion different types of wings -- the dry cajun wings were my fave).
