-- 3/5 My wife,…read moredaughter, and I visited Dave's Hot Chicken in Milford today, and overall, the experience was a mixed bag -- especially when comparing it to the newer location in Hamden. First Impressions & Cleanliness Right away, a few things threw us off. The floors were sticky in several areas. The table we sat at hadn't been cleaned -- leftover crumbs, empty ketchup packets, and general debris. The bathroom smelled strongly of urine, to the point that it reminded me of NYC project hallways. These first impressions affected the overall vibe of the visit. Order Pickup I ordered online, and the screen showed my food as ready. But when I went to the counter, the staff told me they were still plating it. Not a big deal -- I waited another five or six minutes before being called. No complaints there. Food Quality We ordered: The 2-slider + fries meal to split The 10-piece bites + fries for our daughter Flavor-wise, the food was okay, but the attention to detail wasn't consistent: My slider came with barely any slaw and no kale at all, even though it should include kale slaw, pickles, and Dave's sauce. I had to go back up and ask for slaw on the side, which they provided promptly, and then I fixed the sandwich myself. The sliders still had decent flavor, and the chicken was juicy, but the lack of freshness and proper build took away from the experience. Overall The Hamden location was noticeably cleaner and more organized. The Milford restaurant felt a bit neglected during our visit, which overshadowed what could've been a solid meal. Rating: 6/10 -- or 3/5 stars. We'd consider returning, but definitely hope for a cleaner environment next time.

The person behind the counter was very kind and helped us figure out their menu. We ordered a couple of sliders - one hot and one no spice - and a mild tender. Both were excellent - the hot was a perfect mix of flavor and heat that sticks around but doesn't bother you. Really a tremendous first impression. I might go spicier next time.

I found this place while randomly looking on DoorDash. They had a happy hour special, so I decided…read moreto check them out. If you enjoy the flavors of Indian food as well as one of those quick service, hot chicken restaurants you probably would enjoy Hot Murga. The chicken sandwich comes in five spice levels from no heat to super hot. I got the standard hot, and it has some kick, but it wasn't overpowering. Then again I enjoy spicy food. I also ordered their spiced mac & cheese. Again, not spicy at all, but flavorful. Also a good portion as I have leftovers for later. I had my food delivered, but this establishment is close to the Yale campus and street parking can be a bit tricky on Howe St. and around Broadway. I've been inside of the space once when it was a different restaurant some years ago, it's not a large space, but I'm pretty sure comfortable if you decided to dine in. If you ever find yourselves at a crossroad between wanting Chick-fil-A and Indian food, this would be a great alternative.

A fun take on fried chicken, but with "Indian" flavors. I got the Murga Sandwich (hot) and…read moreBadmaash's Mac & Cheese (medium). Honestly, I didn't think the Murga Sandwich itself had too much flavor - the fry was good and the chicken was juicy & crispy, it was just a lacking seasoning and even "hot" was not super spicy. The spice itself also tasted very one dimensional - just spicy, with no seasoning. Overall, I was a bit disappointed by the sandwich itself, but would be interested in trying some of their other sauces. The Badmaash Mac & Cheese was the redeeming item of the meal though - this is basically a Mac & Cheese, covered in tikka sauce & their spicy sauce, and topped with fried chicken. It's definitely a unique flavor, and I think the tikka masala sauce went really well with the cheesy mac texture. Definitely seems like the kind of late night out comfort craving, because it is super heavy. p.s. - pro tip, the sandwich itself is $12 but the sliders are $6 and definitely larger than half of a sandwich (probably closer to 2/3rds). So I'd get 2 sliders for $12 instead of a sandwich.

When you walk in, it's bright, colorful, and lively -- the kind of atmosphere that'll really appeal to younger crowds. There's plenty of seating, and I was greeted right away. Everything looked clean and well-kept, and my food came out in a decent amount of time. I ordered two slider sandwiches (one for me, one for my wife) and the 10-piece bites for our three-year-old. Our daughter liked the bites but didn't finish them -- which is pretty standard toddler behavior! Now, my wife and I both agreed: the chicken was juicy and flavorful, but we personally wished it had a bit more crisp to it. The kale slaw on the sandwich was a nice surprise -- first time I've had kale slaw, and it worked well with the pickles and Dave's sauce. One of the employees suggested adding honey, and while it added a sweet kick, I think the sandwich was solid enough without it. Overall, I'd give the experience a 7 out of 10. The food was fresh, the flavor was there, and the service was great. I'd definitely return to try something else on the menu. Plus, with Popeye's being the only other chicken spot nearby, it's nice to have another option in Hamden.

I ordered THE sandwich combo with mild spice, mac & cheese, and of course banana pudding for desert. My sandwich was so juicy, tender, and crunchy! It was perfectly topped with just the right amount of coleslaw, pickles and rob sauce. I got the mac & cheese without spice just to try it, and honestly wasn't impressed. While very creamy, the cheese left a funny after taste I didn't like. Now the banana pudding on the other hand, that was amazing! It reminded me of southern style banana pudding with hints of cinnamon. My husband picked up the order for me. It was ready quickly and the servers were very friendly from what he said. It's definitely a take out place, as there is very little seating. I will gladly order from here again because I'm already thinking about that chicken sandwich again!

To me, it tasted like a perfect blend of Chick-fil-A and Popeyes--great texture with excellent crunch, and the chicken was moist and full of flavor. The fries were just okay; the crunchier ones were tasty, but they were mixed with some softer, less crispy pieces. The banana pudding was a nice treat too--definitely good. What really stood out was the exceptional staff. They were super friendly and even gave me some complimentary items since it was my first time trying hot chicken. That's fantastic customer service and great business! The only downsides: The place is very small, so don't plan on sitting down to eat if you're with more than one person (it's mostly takeout vibes). Also, the pricing feels expensive--the sandwich alone is $13.49, and adding the combo (with fries and a drink) bumps it up another $4.75. On the bright side, there are plenty of fries to share with someone else. Overall, I highly recommend it for the chicken and service, especially if you're craving Nashville-style hot chicken locally.
