The wings weren't too bad at this establishment. I ordered the smoked BBQ wings. I didn't get much smoked flavor but the wings were nicely sauced and the nice fried. I walked there for my house and stayed inside while my order was getting ready. My only issue was that there were a few young men in the back and taking orders. Solid wings but a bit overcooked. I appreciated that they were a nice size and not the cornish hen sized wingdings people are serving these days. We got the garlic parm, 911, and teriyaki bbq. Bbq was my favorite of the three. 911 was hot but not, I need milk! hot. I know that is subjective but I am not someone who eats hot things often. Occasional hot wings is about all the heat you get from me, so they weren't terrible. Mostly I'd take a bite and need to follow it with the bbq wings or water. The garlic parm were meh. First time ordering from them. Placed an order for delivery which took almost 1 hour and on top of that they forgot one item which they did bring quickly after I called. I ordered a wings combo and chicken fingers with fries. I think they should rename them to : " fries with 3 small chicken fingers" and " oil with wings" there was about half an inch of oil at the bottom of the container for the wings. Also, if I knew the garlic bread that I got as the side for the wings was going to be that small I would've never bothered calling them to tell them they forgot about it. Compared to other places in the same area it was way to small for the price, same as the chicken fingers. The wings had very little flavor too. read more

very poor customer service placed a order to be delivered for 12pm at diagnostic imaging which is around the corner. not only did the guy lie and say i didn't mention 12pm the diver got lost and stated he is at the wrong address. this was very unprofessional and to top it off the driver shows up super late, called to tell us he is sitting in his car to come get our order. with a lunch break only 3ominutes we were unable to eat the wings were cold!!!! so upsetting. dim of west haven loved this place and always spoke so highly but this really left a bad taste . not matter how good the wings are it doesnt make up from being unprofessional and inconsiderate! read more

Highly disappointed!! Wanted to order for delivery considering it says on their menus minimum 15$ some new haven area 1$ charge. So I place the order and the guy tells me that my total of 19$ isn't enough to deliver to me in New Haven and when I said it says 15$ minimum with a 1$ charge he tells me that it needs to be 25$ minimum. Well maybe it should say that on the flier so people can know not to call there. I've been ordering from Southern Wings Express for years now. They're my favorite wings in the area besides maybe Bonchon, but that's a whole different style. They have 30+ wing flavors and they get pretty creative with it. Big fan of the spicy bbq and honey hot. The only reason I'm not giving them 5 stars is because the delivery is so slow. They tell you 45 minutes but be prepared to wait an hour or so. Sometimes they surprise me but it usually takes a long time. The food is hot when it gets here though, so I guess I'll cut my loses. read more

I really can't believe that I'm reviewing this place, let alone giving them 4 stars. However, I've had them on 2 or 3 occasions and every time, those boneless buffalo wings hit the spot! One day, it was the only food that I ate and I wanted to order more; on another occasion I was hungry after a 13 hour wait in line for the iPhone and they tasted like the best boneless, saucy wings I've ever had. I was just watching a show about buffalo wings that made me crave the ones that Wings Express makes so they must be doing something right! I've only tasted two of the side dishes here: the mashed potatoes are decent and the macaroni and cheese is exactly what you'd expect from a recipe made with "government cheese". Cheesy goodness. I have never gotten around to reviewing Southern Wings Express even though I have been ordering delivery from them for over 10 years! What can I really say about them? They have a wide variety of sauces (33 to be exact). My personal favorite is the #16 Garlic Parmesan. My fallback is Spicy Buttery BBQ and my son likes the honey BBQ. I can feel my heart stopping just writing about them. I was never much of a boneless eater until last year when my wife mistakenly ordered boneless. The boneless wings are crispy and tender and quickly became my new favorite. The regular wings are just as good and any wing lover should find these in their top 3. Years ago they were adding a few of these little hush-puppy looking things to your order for free. The first one I tried was great but not a hush-puppy but I was pleasantly disappointed. It was a corn nugget. The only way to describe it is that they take cream corn and make a ball then put a light batter on it. It is then deep fried. WOW! Order the corn nuggets which are now a permanent part of the menu. Whenever I have been under the weather I order a couple of large wings rice to keep around and eat that until I am feeling better. It is a great comfort food. If you want to go lighter there are plenty of other choices on the menu but if you order from someplace called Southern Wings Express, you better get the wings!!! Note: Someone else had a Wings Express located in West Haven that was not even close to the same quality. I think they went under since I can't find them online or in Yelp. If they aren't on Elm St, they are not the same Wings Express as this review. read more

WORST SERVICE. When you call in, an old man answers and demands what you want. Make you uncomfortable to order. Last time I ordered, my wings were precooked so many times, the meat tasted rubbery. The fries looked looked like they were cooked in old oil. never changed the oil for months probably . The ranch dressing was semi-frozen?!?!? The worst part was, the celery and carrots looked like it was freezer burnt. I couldn't take another bite and just threw it away. DONT BOTHER COMING HERE. If you ever crave wings in or around the New Haven area, this is the place to be. Lots of choices for sauces and some of them are not your typical kind. Such a great blend of flavors. I always have a craving for this food. My favorite part is how they have a little of everything, even though they are called Wings Express they have so much more! With all the different varieties of chicken that they do have it's honestly too hard for me to pick a favorite. I must say though that even if I just want wings I always end up getting a combination because it's hard to pass up those sides. The sinful mashed potatoes and the macaroni and cheese are out of this world, in the best way. My mother was a fan of the naked chicken wings which have no sauce, but now that she has seen all the different flavors she has been bold enough to start ordering different kinds and absolutely loves adding the sauce now.
