Yes great chicken sandwich and fries. I also like the chicken wings. My favorite flavor is the lemon pepper.

They definitely needed something so I added BBQ sauce and the good slaw which made for the most excellent bite. Needs to be a regular menu item. The slaw that was on it was dry. We tried 3 different wing flavors: buffalo, cajun dry rub, and garlic parm. Overall, the wings were somewhat disappointing - the meat was a bit dry (still decent for the price though). The buffalo flavor was my favorite as it helped balance out the dryness out and it had a nice kick. The garlic parm and cajun dry rub were on the saltier side but nice with the blue cheese and ranch on the side which helped to mellow these out. The star of the show was their Bar Burger - perfectly cooked, juicy and topped with BBQ sauce, grilled onions, bacon, and cheddar cheese. The portion of fries was generous too. Though they do offer a large variety of food on their menu, their burgers. in particular are delicious. Drinks were great, service was attentive and quick, and the atmosphere was laidback. Overall, a solid option for grabbing a draft or a late night bite!

I got buffalo wings, BBQ wings side of mac and cheese, yams and egg rolls, and greens to go. I got my order to go but when I got home the yam juice leaked onto the mac, greens and no juice left on yams. It was because the hot food collapsed the styrofoam. disappointed!!! I called the owner and he will make it right for my next visit. Those items I will have to review at a later date because everything tasted so sweet from the yam juice. Could not salvage those sides. Now let's talk egg rolls please. Those egg roll are AMAZING. I got a buffalo egg roll, steak and cheese, and hamburger egg roll. Each and every one was FANTASTIC. Get those. The wings were great. The taste was amazing on both flavors . I chose the buffalo and BBQ wet flavor. I really like the fact the wings were not the size of mini turkey wings. Those large wings are usually so meaty you chew for days. Woody Wings are just the right size. The inside of the restaurant is very cute for those that choose to dine in. They have good music as well. Next time you need some wings check out Woody Wings you will not be disappointed. Enjoy!!!

Sandra's Next Generation has been my absolute staple in the community for over three decades…read more Sandra Pittman has been cooking in this same location since 1989, and I've been eating here consistently since 1995. It is, without question, the best soul food in the state. I have no problem running down I-91 from Hartford just to get my food because the quality and taste are on a level that nobody else can touch. Don't let the neighborhood fool you; this is a masterclass in authentic cooking. Sandra and her husband Miguel have been running this place for over 30 years, and that level of dedication shows in every single dish. The food has the kind of soul and precision that defines the elite dining scene in Connecticut. If you want the real deal--the standard that every other soul food spot is measured against--this is the only place to go. It's a class act that has stayed true to its roots for over 30 years.

Although I don't typically dine out for soul food, my water was shut off due to maintenance on the outside pipes. Since it was Sunday and I usually cook Sunday dinner, I chose to visit Sandra's after hearing such high praise and wanting to try their menu. Upon arrival, I realized it doesn't particularly stand out, but there is a menu outside to review before entering. The restaurant is small, predominantly a takeout spot. I ordered the Pork Chop dinner, with sides of Collard Greens and Macaroni and Cheese. My son had the Ribs with Macaroni and Cheese and Rice, and my daughter selected the Fried Chicken, Macaroni and Cheese, and Collard Greens. I also picked up a side of Sweet Potatoes and Fried Fish. The Fried Fish was underwhelming in flavor, with a slimy breading. I prefer my fish fried until very crispy, and although it looked crispy, it needed a bit more time. The Sweet Potatoes were good but could benefit from a touch more sweetness. When I opened my Pork Chop dinner, I was surprised to find only one pork chop, especially given that the dinner costs twenty dollars and pork is typically an affordable meat. I would expect two pork chops for that price. The Mac and Cheese was decent--cooked well but lacking the deep, savory richness I seek. The Collard Greens, however, were excellent; cooked perfectly and absorbed the rich flavors of their broth and seasonings. My children found the food to be okay, rating it around 2.5 to 3 stars. There is also a refrigerator with desserts and homemade juice drinks. Overall, the staff and environment were friendly.

I stood at the bar with my plate of wings for a good 5 minutes before someone came to serve me. I asked what lagers they had and the bartender didn't know what a lager was. She recommended a stout. I decided on the Pilsner and it was VERY good. I grabbed a picnic table and dug into my wings only to find them extremely dried out. As if they'd been sitting under the heat lamp too long. The fries were also a bit burned and tasted as if they also sat too long under a lamp. I was going to take them back and complain but my friends started arriving and I got distracted. Most of my friends ordered sandwiches and said they were good. The one who ordered ribs also complained that they were very dry with that same heat lamp effect. When we were leaving, I decided to grab some food to go. I asked for a 2 meat combo with 1/2 chicken and brisket. In a small container the server put about 3 thin 1/4 slices of the brisket and less than a hand full of pulled chicken. I advised that what he was giving me is NOT the 2 meat combo. It should have a 1/2 chicken. He advised that they were out of chicken. I stated that he should inform me before substituting what I wanted. And further, the amount of pulled chicken he put in the container was FAR less than what one would get from a 1/2 chicken - dark or white meat. He stated again that they are out of 1/2 chicken. I stated my case again. He repeated his. So I cancelled the order and walked out. I may go back to the New Haven smokehouse. But if I do, I'll eat before I go and just drink. They need to work on the food.

When I returned the last time after the 1st. bad review that left behind, there was some improvement and so I was able to leave at least 3 stars but now we are right back at 0 and so let us discuss. I noticed the menu change, which was a good thing, There was less focus on the fried chicken options, actually I did not even see any anymore and more focus on wings, fish sandwiches, burgers and so let us grab up those. Hawaiian Pineapple Wings!! The fries and even. the Mac and Cheese that I read about. Add in some drinks and my bill was roughly $30. I went straight in for the Mac & Cheese which upon first bite was somebody's boxed up pot luck surprise with extra powdered cheese that nobody ever asked for but I received it anyway. This Trash & Cheese was far from cheesy and the elbows weren't thoroughly cooked but the clumps of dried out powder power pellets, left me in a very dark place and even when I tried to stir it, my fork wanted to give up and whatever residue of hope for this disaster, shot out of my driver side window. Moving along to the French fries. The potato itself tasted old and that. probably had to do with old oil; who knows but they were far from fresh fries. The best thing was the salt but the fries were not even good enough for the nearest trash can. We are not doing good at all but let us move along. My Hawaiian Pineapple wings had chunks of what should had been pineapple but looked more like apples that had a flavor of whatever giving up on life as we know it tastes like. Slimy sludge "apple" chunks, putrid and foul in taste and that same yuck butt sauce over my small little wings did not help much at all. The meat was decent, not overcooked but the wings just need some help along the way. I was hoping to see another bump in improvement here but unfortunately, the food fell short. The guy behind the counter was cool though and so he gets a star but that's about all I can give a star for....Maybe the drinks in the fridge too, they were good.

We walked in with no reservation on Valentine's Day (bold), and the manager couldn't have been more welcoming. Super friendly, got us seated quickly, and set the tone right away. That kind of hospitality matters. The vibe? Cool, modern, slightly moody -- perfect accidental Valentine's dinner energy. The service was on point all night. Attentive, smooth, and genuinely warm. Now let's talk about the moment that activated my Dominican DNA. I ordered the Sweet Plantains with Cilantro Aioli as an appetizer and when I saw plátanos on that menu? República Dominicana presente. . I felt seen. For my main, I had the Temple Salad and added a burger patty (because balance is important ). Fresh, flavorful, satisfying. My son ordered a burger with truffle fries and I am STILL thinking about those fries today. Crispy. Perfect salt. That truffle flavor hit just right. Those fries deserve their own review. And because it was Valentine's Day and I believe in celebrating myself too, I had the Pineapple Express. Divine. Tropical. Smooth. The kind of drink that keeps the gozadera going.
