Admittedly I didn't go to the storefront. My sister picked up coffee and pastries for me, so I couldn't tell you about the customer service. I have seen this Devout Coffee in passing while strolling through on Niles, so I can at least vouch to it being a cute, simple coffee shop. I had just missed the window for their Autumn Spice lattes, which they discontinued for the season right after Thanksgiving, so I advised my sister to get me a vanilla latte. I was informed that they didn't carry soy milk, so I was limited to oat or almond milks for non-dairy creamers. They did have non-fat milk at least, so I went with that. The vanilla latte I got from Devout Coffee was one of the best ones I've had. It had a wonderful sweetness to it that reminded me of brown sugar. Now on to the pastries. I asked my sister to surprise me, and she came back with an ube custard and chocolate chip cookie. I'm not that particularly fond of ube, but I really enjoyed this! The ube flavor wasn't overpowering, and it had the smoothness and creaminess like custard. I was expecting it to have the graininess or chunkiness of ube texture. The chocolate chip cookie was a delight as well. It was soft, chewy, and loaded with giant chocolate discs, so each bite was packed with chocolatey goodness. read more

I feel the need to preface this by saying that I am not a coffee snob or connoisseur. I have a lot of friends who are. I think I'm also saying this because Devout doesn't actually have a menu when you walk in, you kinda just tell them your order, and I thought wow this is for the advanced coffee drinker. Was feeling angry in general on a Monday morning so I decided to Yelp for coffee and pastries. My go-to coffee shop order is a pastry and an iced mocha but today I got two pastries (almond croissant and a savory danish) because I was angry. They were served in coffee filters which I thought was funny. They tasted great but they definitely had that sitting-out-for-at-least-a-day vibe. My issue with iced mochas usually is that they're too sweet but this place's wasn't sweet at all and not gonna lie I missed the sweet mochas. Theirs tasted almost savory. I'm thinking next time I should get something with less added, like maybe just an espresso shot. Devout is in Niles with mostly street parking. There's a bit of seating inside and outside and there's a bathroom but I wouldn't say it's a great place to get work done because I didn't see many outlets. read more

Arrived here on a Saturday afternoon around 2:30 pm for a caffein recharge in an interesting part of Fremont called Niles. The coffee shop is surrounded by bars and antique stores. There's parking by their town plaza or street parking. It's super hipster vibes across the town that's more on the traditional themes. They have indoor seating and a larger outside seating area with tables and benches. Their menu is when you walk up to the counter, and I ordered an iced latte. I waited around 10 minutes for my order since it was busy. My iced latte definitely needed sugar even though I asked for almond milk; I used about 4 packets of Splenda.... This is a cute coffee shop located in the Nile neighborhood in Fremont. Seating is widely available inside the store and in a large patio area next to the shop. The staff and baristas are all very friendly, and I ordered the latte with oat milk (as a heads up, they don't offer any syrups aside from their seasonal drinks). My drink came out very quickly, and it was delicious! Smooth, not acidic, and creamy. I also ordered a chocolate chip cookie (chewy and sweet) and maple cinnamon roll, both of which were tasty. There were plenty of other treats in the bakery display case, and I would love to come back and try more of them. They also have merch and house-roasted beans available for purchase. Came here Saturday afternoon and ordered their Gingerbread Cappuccino. There was a line to order, but it moved rather quickly. The wait to get my cappuccino took longer - about half an hour (based on my photos). I'm not sure what caused the wait to be so long. They have a rack of pastries to choose from as well ranging from savory to sweet options, you're bound to find something you'll like. Come early though, some favorites are gone fast! Recommendations from some of the regulars have included a Brie Rosemary Pastry and one with Cinnamon. I went with a traditional almond pastry on my first visit. It was crispy and tasty, not too sweet. Enjoy your treat inside with a few seating areas, one of which is by the window where you can enjoy the scenic Mission Hills. They have wifi so you can get some work done while you're there. Or soak in some sun on your stroll down the main road to explore a bit of this historic town. Parking is easy, theres a free lot but street parking can also be fairly easy to get. Weekends can be a bit chaotic but the neighborhood is quiet so you may be able to find a spot just a block away. They also have swag and may be able to handle bulk orders. Check in with the store and owner to find out more. I had a great experience bulk ordering some beans for a company event. We wanted snacks and coffee before our visit to the Niles Essanay Silent Film Museum and theater and found Devout Coffee just a block away. The atmosphere and setting, both inside and outside, was simple but with great character and charming decor. There are different options for seating, more in the outdoor patio than inside the coffee shop. There are pastries available, but not a whole lot of options like other coffee spots typically offer. We got the Kouign Amann, and the Ham and Gruyere Croissant. Both were delicious, not heated, but still good. Two thick slices of ham, the cheese melted into the flaky croissant, but again, it was not heated, so it could be tasted but not seen. There was zero wait for the pastries, since they are sitting in the display case and are not heated when ordered. Honestly, I'd prefer to have to wait, if I could get warm pastries/sandwiches/ cookies. Luckily, there was hardly a wait for our drinks as well, even with a constant short line of customers. The regular black coffee was good, but standard. The iced mocha was not very good, not much chocolate flavor, a bit chalky and bitter. I can definitely find better iced mocha drinks at other cafes (I saw another reviewer say they use powders instead of syrup... that may explain it). For me, the place was just okay... at least it served its purpose during our visit on a beautiful sunny day in the old town, and the food still tasted good even if not super fresh or warm. read more

This place is for the simple coffee lovers. I probably waited around 10 minutes in line. The back area was filled with friends catching up, people with their dogs, and some just enjoying coffee and sunshine and a good book. There aren't any syrups, but there is mocha (I believe it's powdered). The quality is great, the baristas are so kind, and it's very aesthetically pleasing inside! There isn't a huge selection aside from the coffee basics due to lack of flavoring syrup, which I didn't expect. I got a whole milk latte with packs of sugar in the raw. I N S I D E It's s small spot, so due to COVID, no seating inside, but they have this nice little outdoor seating on the side where my friend and I spent a majority talking and drinking our drinks. M E N U It's pretty darn straight forward. Coffee, espresso, tea and hot chocolate drinks. You can get most drinks iced or hot, as well as decaf if you're sensitive to caffeine. I opted for a mocha. It was rich and decadent and what you want in a mocha. Not sweet...just rich. They also had some pastries and desserts. I had some banana bread which was delicious. Okay coffee. Okay service. The electronic tablet to order eases up the baristas' work. It is great because it gives you all the information you need, but too low in height (I needed to crouch to read everything and I am a tall person). Too pretentious of a vibe and I was expecting a better coffee taste for what they advertised/pretend. They have a High end, Probat coffee roaster, which allows them to fine tune their bean and producing excellent flavors. You have the choice of specialty teas, drip coffees, or espresso drinks. I tried their cafe mocha, which I provided a great taste of their delicious coffee beans: earthy taste, hint of unsweetened chocolate, not sweet. A very simple menu with good coffee! I got an iced oat milk latte and it was delicious! Perfect for a warm day out on the patio outside. I'm kind of surprised they didn't have any unique syrups but I also didn't ask. I went on a Monday afternoon and it was very empty. The inside has some community seating but no full tables. Stopped in here to meet up with a friend on a Sunday at around 11AM. It's located in the older area of Fremont off of Niles. They were super busy, but staff was very friendly and were pumping out drinks as fast and efficiently as they could. I was sad their holiday eggnog coffee was out so I tried their seasonal Gingerbread one which was pretty tasty. I didn't have time to take any pics, but the foam on top of my coffee was a beautiful display. They also have pastries. I had their banana walnut which was bomb! Bread was super soft, and it had just enough walnuts in it for crunch! Seating indoors was pretty minimal especially since they were busy. Yum!! I was arrived at work a little early so I decided to swing by and try a new coffee place. The interior and exterior of Devout Coffee is so earthy and modern. The staff are also so friendly! They sell cute merchandise here, like clothes and cups. There's also a few refrigerated selections. The biggest size here is the 10 ounce. My mocha was bittersweet--they're not going to give you something like from Starbucks! The end of had that thick, bitter chocolate feel that worked for me but not for my friend. I remember coming here soon after it first opened, when the inside looked quite different, and while the look has been remodeled over the years, I'm still a huge fan of their coffee, pastries, and overall vibe. The chill Niles neighborhood also adds to the general feeling of relaxation. FOOD + DRINK: The espresso drinks menu is pretty simple - it's the same amount of espresso with different amounts of milk for a different total drink size. You won't find any grande-sized, much less venti-sized, drinks here, but you'll get some quality coffee to sip and enjoy. I find their coffee has an overall strong, smooth, well-balanced taste. I usually get a latte or mocha and appreciate that the microfoam stays for a while - and the latte art can be a delight to see. Pastry selection varies on the day and time; I've tried the kouign amman, chocolate chip cookies, chocolate concha bun, savory spinach pastries (these are better freshly toasted though), etc. SEASONAL DRINKS: + Vanilla citrus hystrix (January 2020 seasonal drink, $5): such a refreshing iced combo of vanilla, lime, and espresso flavors. I've never had espresso with tonic water before, and I'm not a huge fan of a lot of carbonated drinks, but this was surprisingly good. I hope they keep this past January, or bring it back on the menu in the warmer months - I would definitely get this again. COVID-19 NOTE: During the pandemic, the patio has sometimes been open, sometimes not. We've been here many times over the past two years, this is the only nice pour-over premium coffee we can think of in this area, the next closest ones being in Oakland and San Jose. Today while I was drinking my morning brew from Devout I said out loud "Damn that's a good Cappucino". Really like this place and hope it encourages other places w/ the same vibe to open in this area. They roast their own beans and every cup is made to order at the perfect temperature so you get a very good Coffee. There's a small shop w/ cool branded shirts and nice equipment needed to make pourover coffee at home. They also sell their beans and it's an amazing gift for friends, families, coworkers this Holiday. We took 4 bags home this morning after someone came and wiped them out this weekend! Ambiance is very cool too, can't wait till Covid ends and we can chill here again. Since covid has started there is pretty much never a "hot" time so parking and coming here is always easy even on a Friday night or Saturday. read more

Service was so friendly, the woman who took my order commented on how lovely my farmers market strawberries looked.
