Great lunch on the patio-the service is wonderful, the patio feels very open and safe, and the food was fantastic. I had the Yes way, Jose cocktail, and my partner had a Guiness. We sat on the spacious patio which has umbrellas and heaters. It was a gorgeous afternoon. We shared some apps-the tomato bisque was incredible and came with a full grilled cheese and prosciutto sandwich. We also had an order of nachos and the pulled pork egg roll-which I will dream about. Our server was attentive and helpful and the overall vibe is lovely. Just what the doctor ordered. read more

Gonna 5-star this review because this is my spot and I believe in you boys but goddamn dude what the fuck. Also, because I'm going to be pretty harsh here. Let me just say that I don't order nachos when I'm out because they're always disappointing. It's always just a mound of fucking dry chips, a few little congealed chunks of cheese here and there with a bunch of stupid shit on top. But you guys changed all of that. Your nachos were cheesy and layered. They were served hot on a cast iron plate, the cheese bubbling at the bottom and getting crispy in places. It was a harmony of practicality and aesthetics, something to marvel. It was beautiful and I fucking spread the word boys so send the goddamn check. When I went last night though, you guys fucked everything up. The nachos looked like shit, dry, cheese deprived and came out on an aluminum trey. Hey boys, guess what aluminum does? It sucks the fucking heat out of food. Go put a piece of aluminum foil in a 500 degree oven for 20 min and take it out, touch it after 20 seconds. So obviously the cheese on the nachos, what little it had, had solidified by the time it was brought to the table. At first I was like huh, maybe the cast iron plates were too hard to clean or something? Nope, here comes the duck fat tots on a cast iron plate. Don't get me wrong boys, it was good, you should put that on the brunch menu. But the duck tots used to be crispy and served with aioli or some shit. These were just tater tots with gravy, cheese, a fried egg on top and ketchup on the side. It used to be a sexy, shared appetizer that went perfectly with a drink but now it's just slop. It just shouldn't be on the app menu, no one wants to to turn beat red from holding in farts on their date. Also, if you're going to make what's really just tater tot poutine, just call it that. I do appreciate the asterisk next to this item on the online menu though. I assume it's to note the runny sunny side up egg being an undercooked food product but I like to think it's more of a warning that says "this dish is pretty good but it also kind of sucks and you're going to fart a lot". Whoever suggested the aluminum treys needs to go take a lap. Throw those fucking things in the trash. read more

Came her for brunch while visiting friends in Boston. We had a fairly large group so we had to wait about 40 minutes, it was alright though because they have a bar you can sit at and order some pre brunch mimosas. For my meal I ordered the lobster and asparagus eggs Benedict. It was quite yummy and included a decent amount of lobster meat. One of my friends had the brussel sprouts appetizer which was my favorite thing that I tried while there! One person ordered the breakfast tacos which no one at the table liked, they were too mushy and just not good. Overall a nice place to come for brunch and would visit again. read more

Excellent Service, WORST "margarita" pizza that I've had in my life. I ordered this for brunch, and it was basically glorified cheese bread with absolutely no flavor. Another person in my party got a burger, which was also pretty average. My other friend seemed happy with her chicken and waffles, but I definitely wouldn't go back there again. It's hard to screw up a pasta dish. Even at my very greenest in the kitchen I was able to whip up something decent with angel hair, zucchini, butter and wine. But Devlin's managed to do just that on my one visit there, delivering to our table two of the ickiest looking pasta dishes I've ever seen. The presentation was so bare and strange on the blue fish and linguini with red sauce-- giant, giant chunks of fish with a bit of pasta, covered in a small amount of thin red sauce....no visible spices...just totally unappetizing. That went to my friend-- my husband received a shrimp pasta dish with onions that were almost raw, big pieces of hard asparagus, all finished off with a really watery white sauce. He looked really unhappy while eating it, and left half in his plate. And this was all on 'Pasta Night'. Granted, neither dish was mine-- I got a scallop appetizer and a beet and pear salad which were totally devoid of any creativity, but edible at least. It was all a real shame because their patio is so lovely, and the service is very prompt and friendly. Brighton could use a cool mid to high end restaurant, but this one doesn't quite fit the mark. I can't believe Devlin's isn't yelped already - that's insane! This place is to Brighton Center what Sunset is to Allston Village! Okay, perhaps that's a bad analogy, but Devlin's is awesome. I have lately been spurred to write reviews only if the establishment is A)really good B) Really bad, or C) really memorable for various reasons. That being said, this place really impressed me. I went on Saturday morning with my special ladyfriend for brunch. Now, the other option I had mentioned prior to leaving was Twin-Donuts... so you can get an idea for what I was mentally setting the bar for. But she recommended Devlin's, and THANK GOD she did-- cuz they took things to a whole nother level of brunch. I went with the scrambled eggs. Mostly cuz I love me some eggs after a nite of a few adult beverages, and secondly because they came with toast, fruit, homefries and your choice of meat (I love bacon) for 7 dolla. This seemed like a classy place-- and I am a classy guy-- so i asked for some classy cheddar on my eggs. Simply put: my plate was delicious. 4 or 5 strips of bacon... I'd estimate 4 eggs worth of scrambled deliciousness, 4 pieces of toast, and a bunch of crispy/crunchy homefries. I drenched all that shit in ketchup and I was in heaven. The ladyfriend let me try her french fries and they were amazing too!!! Some of the lightest, crispiest fries I've had in recent memory. Oh momma!! I'ma definitely be back to this place. Recently (12-15-21) the entire staff at Devlin's was kind enough to accommodate my sisters and my extended family by hosting a last-minute private family function. The entire staff provided us with an incredible amount of compassion, hospitality, attentiveness, professionalism, and transcendent service !!! From Tricia (Mngr.) and Kirstie (Hostess), to the servers, bartender, the kitchen staff , they all presented to us an incredible array of food ....Appetizers Charcuterie, Main-course Buffet items,Sides and Salads.The effort and dedication put forth to insure a "Celebration/Memoriam" was so comforting, unforgettable, impeccable !!!! Oh, and the food ......absolutely 5-Star, the Portions, the Presentation, the Quality, Flavor, ......stunning !!!!! Devlin's was my favorite place to grab food/drinks when I lived in Brighton Center. I would consider it "fancy" for Brighton Ctr, but not in an obnoxious way. Being able to head out for a glass of wine in the back patio and feel like I was downtown made it my favorite though. Sometimes a girl just wants fancy, you know? Oh wait...but you don't have to dress downtown. Bonus for a casual girl like me. I actually brought my current bf here for our first date, and we revisited many times before we..gulp...moved across the country. Next time I'm back visiting you can be sure I'll stop in for a micro-brew or glass of vino on the patio. I've also had an excellent lemon drop martini on the "bar" side. They serve different apps over there and it's a great place to stop in for a quick bite to eat. read more

5 Stars all the way. Wow I am impressed beyond belief. Last night was my works holiday party at Devlins and it was totally fantastic. The service was great. Kudos to our server for putting up with a bunch of loud obnoxious people. Nah we weren't that bad. The drinks were great - obviously I drank a little too much. But they had a great selection of wines we ended up with a Chateauneuf du Pape and a J. Lohr Merlot which complemented my meal (grilled swordfish and broccoli rabe) very nicely. Dessert was delicious a chocolate/peanut butter truffle cake with a perfect 20 year old port. Practically orgasmic - but the top of the evening was the 20 year old scotch that just melted my heart. YUMMMY. I'm still feeling the effects today thats for sure. The food, the quality of service, and atmosphere all rank high in my book I will definitely be going back soon. The prices were great for the quality that came out of the kitchen. I was blown away. I haven't eaten in a place like this for quite awhile and it was perfect sitting down with other foodies like myself. read more

I've been here a few times for dinner with friends. It's a nice place but nothing on the drink or food menu ever jumps out at me. This time around, we ordered the fried calamari appetizer and they were a bit on the rubbery side and the batter was soggy. We sent it back and I think they re-fried the calamari, but it still wasn't crispy. For my entree, I had the special, oven roasted pork tenderloin with mashed potatoes and asparagus. I had french fries instead of mashed, but for some reason the left the asparagus off my plate as well. A few moments after serving us, the waiter brought over a plate of fries and said that the chef felt like he skimped on the fries (3 of us had fries with our meals), so I thought that was a nice gesture. We shared an apple crisp dessert which was OK. When the bill came, I was surprised it was $50 per person. It seemed a bit on the pricey side for this type of restaurant, especially since nothing was all that satisfying. This place is just OK. Its not good but its not horrible. For those who live in the area, I guess its a nicer option than dives and pubs. As for me, I'd rather pick another spot to meet my friends. read more

I went here on a Friday night and had no problem getting 2 seats at the bar. The place was busy but not totally packed. The draft beer selection is pretty decent. I ordered the cookout burger cooked medium and it came out perfect. The service was great and the prices aren't bad. I've had a lot of brunch in my day, and I usually travel all over Boston to try it. When I moved to Brighton last year, I was in denial that there was anything cool around me. I've been a city girl for years now and couldn't imagine not being able to stroll down the street and pop in to one of 100 brunch options on Boylston Street. Boy, would I go back and scold my ignorant 2015 self. My best friend and I decided one morning last week, a morning when it was surprisingly mild and beautiful in Boston/Brighton, to go for a little walk down Washington Street and see if we could grab a coffee somewhere. I happened to be scrolling through Yelp and decided we should give Devlin's a try. We made a quick reservation and had a table waiting not but five minutes later as we squeezed past the crowd waiting to be seated. We were served quickly and handed what was the most interestingly amazing menu I've ever seen. The entire restaurant was sunlit, due to the awesome skylights they have, and there was Soccer on every TV. I already liked this place. Lets start off with the breakfast drinks. Mimosa? Choose between six creative options. Bloody Mary? Pick your favorite type of alcohol, and hit up the "toppings" bar that could serve as a breakfast itself. Coffee? Go classic with a full Starbucks quality menu, or spice it up with a Spiked Coffee. I had the S'mores Spiked Coffee, complete with marshmallow vodka and chocolate liquor. It was everything I never knew I dreamed of. On a second, later visit, I tried the Hawaiian, with Malibu and Kahlua, and loved it even more. There is a decent sized "brunch apps" section to the menu, and we decided to give the Doughnuts a try. These mini Apple Cider Doughnuts come with a Bacon Bourbon icing for dipping. They were crunchy on the outside and soft and spongy on the inside, with a great balance of cinnamon and fruity flavors. The bacon bourbon icing is something I can't describe and give it the credit it deserves. You have to go try it yourself. For Brunch, I had the "Full Irish" to try and relive my days running around Dublin. They made a traditional and delicious Irish breakfast, complete with all the meat you could ever want. My best friend tried the Southwestern Style Hash - made with BBQ Short Rib and all sorts of Southwestern style. We were very happy with our meals. On said later visit mentioned above, I went with the Southwestern, and best friend went with the Corn Beef Hash. Delicious. We are looking forward to trying their breakfast pizzas down the line. I almost feel as if I lost months of possible brunches by not giving Brighton the chance it deserved. I absolutely recommend Devlin's - and I hear they have a patio for the nicer weather. What more could you want! They are always playing great classic songs, and have live music various nights of the week. This is a MUST for the Brighton area, and I will even go so far to say that all you city folk should make the trip out too. read more

Devlin's I can't figure you out. I'm flummoxed. This past late summer/early fall I sat on your patio and had the most delicious sangria followed up with the absolute worst pasta dish ever, swimming in creamy heavy sauce. What's a girl to think? Mixed messages. Yesterday I sat at your bar and ordered a Caesar salad. I stupidly forgot to say "light dressing" but I didn't have to. The salad came out perfectly dressed with fresh, crisp greens, albeit a bit light handed on the parmesan. The salad was great. The butternut ravioli was yummy. They tasted like little sweet squash pies. In the past your staff has been rude and or incompetent. Last night the bartender was a delight. Your patio is always a winner in the summer. Wow. This place really needs to get it together. As much as I like the food and love the outdoor patio, we've had issues with slow service (only outside) in the past. Today, however, Devlin's sank to an all-time low and I doubt we'll be back. We arrived for a late lunch at 3 and were immediately seated on the patio. Our server asked if we wanted to sit in the shade or the sun and we chose shade. Once we sat down for a minute we realized it would be too cold so we asked if we could move to a different table. She told us we were welcome to sit wherever we liked. We sat down a few tables away (I'd say the patio was about 1/2 full). And then we sat for a solid 20 minutes without anyone approaching us, not our server, who wandered aimlessly around the patio, ignoring our eye contact, or any other restaurant employee. I tried making eye contact with any server we saw in our general vicinity but they stared through me (again, the patio was in no way terribly busy). Finally we were so exasperated we left (and believe me, it takes a lot for an 8 months pregnant woman to walk away from the promise of a tasty meal). As we walked out, our server, who was just hanging out by the entrance of the patio, waved goodbye and said thank you. Clearly she had no recollection of seating us, speaking with us or handing us menus. Ridiculous. read more

Being a Brighton resident I had high hopes for Devlin's, the area really does need a urbanish bistro/bar to have solid food and fun drinks. Unfortunately for us Brightonite's Devlin's is NOT that place. I've been to Devlin's a couple of times, for appetizers and cocktails, and also for dinner. The first couple of times my experience was decent - food was decent, service was decent. But the last time I was there it was the last straw. The worst POSSIBLE service I have had in a very long time. Bad service really ruins the experience but you can totally make up for it...good food for one, but also acknowledging the service isn't up to par. Neither options came through, the waitress (who we barely saw and forgot our drink orders 3 times) never said a word and the food was BAD. I had scallops that tasted like they came out of a can, and my boyfriend had what tasted like spaghetti-o's. Never again. read more

Devlin's was okay. I went there for Sunday brunch with some friends. The atmosphere was nice for a Sunday morning, it seemed pretty crowded. My friends and I split the tater tot app, it had good flavor but it didn't come out as warm as I prefer. I got the Denver omelette, it was okay not the greatest omelette I've ever had. It seemed a little over priced for the quality. It said it came with a side of home fries (one small ball of shredded potato) and fruit (came in a dipping sauce dish). I had brunch here a few weeks ago, steak and eggs with a Groupon. The meat was cooked as ordered and the eggs were a not dry or runny. The mini muffins that came to the table were exciting :) I didn't love it, but I would definitely come back because prices are reasonable. The food here is pretty good. I like how they have half entrees, so if you like to order a lot of things or you don't like to overorder/overeat it's perfect. I usually get a pasta dish with lobster. The half-portion is good enough and it's around $13. The flatbread pizzas are great too. Patio is nice in the summer. Makes for a nice "first date" kind of place. That's coming from someone who would never take a girl to Grill 23 on a first date. If the date goes well and you like eachother, is she going to expect you to take here to places like Grill 23 all the time? Would I want to date a girl who only liked places like Grill 23? no Trivia night is sweet because they have a jackpot. If you get 18 out of 20 questions right, your team wins at least $500. Been there for trivia maybe 5 times and have never seen anyone win. read more

I'm a sucker for patios, and the one at Devlin's is positively delightful. Big, spacious, plenty of tables and open air. The menu is good (sliiiiightly pricey). Was surprised to see that the shrimp on the pizza was in its whole/intact form, and delicately placed 1 per slice. Didn't really make for an even distribution, but was tasty nonetheless. And finally, am I the only one who didn't know that there are seasonal brews of Blue Moon? Regardless, this place gets props for showing me the light. read more

Devlin's - Fried Oreo Sundae - American Near Me - Brighton, Massachusetts

Let me start in reverse. The minute we left Devlin's I declared that I liked it, but probably wouldn't be dying to go back anytime soon. That said, I did really enjoy it. The ambiance is really nice, sort of like a faux-upscale bar (and by that I mean not pretentious) with nice tables for small parties and big booth seats for larger groups. The ceilings are high, the whole place is really nicely lit, and the room is divided by these huge archway cutouts draped with luxurious curtains. They serve two types of bread (crunchy flatbread and a warm foccacia type bread) with this very creamy roasted veggie hummus. It was good, I really wanted to ask for more (just for the hummus) but didn't. I tried the caesar salad which was big and hearty, pretty standard. For dinner I ordered the grilled chicken and jack cheese pizza. It was tasty, there was a lot of cheese though and was plated with sporadic blobs of sour cream and guacamole on it. I wished it was more cohesive. I also had french fries which were very good, golden and crunchy. I tried the baked maine crab macaroni and cheese which had bacon and a butter cracker topping to die for (that was the best part, believe it or not). Service was really good. Parking could be a bear but I scored a spot directly in front of the restaurant. Those two things definitely came in to play with my 3 star rating as this place is pretty standard fare. read more

Is this really the meal I get for $10? Yeah, it's delicious, but this really isn't a lot of food. I read the reviews before going here and noted that the service could be hit-or-miss. Well, today it really was a miss. The servers forgot about us due to a "section mix-up", and forgot two of our beers due to the good old "We're changing the keg" excuse. Maybe they really were changing the keg, but as a server I know that was a pretty good excuse to use when you simply forgot about the beers. This place is classy for Brighton center. Granted, that's not saying much... but still. I like it. Popped in here Friday night for a glass of wine and some dessert. The dessert was VERY mediocre and not recommended at all. The wine was delicious. We stayed for two glasses each! The waitress was friendly (but not TOO friendly), and refilled our water glasses frequently after hearing that I was dying of thirst. Prices are reasonable. I came once for lunch, and it was tasty. As the night wore on, the music got really, really loud. Dude, this is NOT a club. This is a bar/restaurant where people go to talk and drink and make merry. Keep the sound down, and I've got my neighborhood pub. I'll definitely be coming by again, especially for their patio, which certainly wasn't in play on that chilly Friday night. read more

Having been in most of the surrounding bars I somehow never wandered into Devlin's until last night. The service was excellent, prompt and friendly. No cardboard bread with the ubiquitous butter here, instead you get thick bread that seems like beer bread with delicious hummus. Steak tips were perfectly cooked arriving with grilled asparagus and tomatoes topped with blue cheese and bacon. Portions are nice, not the over the top portions the chains give you, but just enough for one person. Their Caesar salad was excellent, more than enough for a main meal. I went in because I stared at a picture of a pizza from Devlin's on Instagram. I was a sad to find out they only served their chorizo, avocado, egg pizza during brunch D: But we decided to go with a cheese/meat plate, something something tater tots, and lobster pie. Let's start off with the cheese/meat board - it was AMAZING! Our waitress even gave us a little cheat sheet for the spread. Everything made sense. My friend loved their tater tots which we had to sub with sweet potato because they ran out of regular potatoes. There was an egg on top - enough said. We sat at a corner of the bar and each ordered our drink of choice from the extremely friendly, informative bartender (Boston accent included). There are cheaper selections on the bar menu and we were able to share 3 appetizers and that was enough food. I don't know why I had it in my head that This place was more of a bar than a nice restaurant. Boy was I wrong... Just enjoyed an AMAZING meal. I had two boldly Mary's. Usually I can only fit one in my tummy along with food but they were sooo good I couldn't stop at just one. My boyfriend and I split our sandwiches. We got the pulled pork grilled cheese and the Reuben bagel. Both were phenomenal. Our waitress Roshini was such s delight, bright eyed, attentive, sweet as can be... She suggested the sweet potato tater tots. I'm so glad I took her suggestion, they were sooo yummy. The place is very bright, open, and clean. I love the atmosphere. There are two bars, one on the dining room side and another which also has some tables around it but not as many. I am so glad we decided to try Devlins today...
