Came here because we were in desperate need of a good pastry and Devil's Food absolutely devil-ered. It is located just outside of Wash Park in a gorgeous neighborhood. There is free street parking nearby, just make sure to read the street signs so you don't get towed. We got there on a Sunday right after they opened. I ordered their hot latte, the ham & cheese croissant, honey nectarine galette, and the chocolate croissant to go. The latte was good and the bitterness complimented the richness and sweetness of the pastries. They were all so big and filling. The ham & cheese was warm, cheesey, and delicious. The galette was good though I will admit I could distinguish neither the nectarine flavor nor honey. I took the chocolate croissant to go. Boy, was it messy on the plane but it was SO GOOD. Definitely worth a stop in even if you aren't in the area. It's worth it to travel here. read more

Stopped in after work for a little sweet treat. Granted it was 4pm so most of the baked goods were gone, which I've tried before and remember enjoying. This day I got the peanut butter chocolate mousse cake to satisfy my sweet tooth. The mousse was so light and airy and although the cake sounds like it could be a lot I think it was super yummy. Definitely on the richer side but not as sweet as I anticipated, would pair perfectly with a strong coffee. I could see this bakery being a great place to work remote. For as busy as a Sunday can be, the service was extremely fast, available, and friendly. The set up is unique with the "kitchen" area in the middle and seating all around it. Given how popular the spot is, there's not enough seating - but there is a good amount of seats in general. There's a cute shop attached that makes the spot even more fun. One of my favorite coffee shops! Quaint local and such a vibe. Their ham and Gruyère croissant is by far one of the best I've had in the CO, maybe ever (still need to make my way to France). Flakey and buttery and perfect! They have an incredible and vast bakery with so many unique options. A great spot to get a local gift as well. Been frequenting 'the Devil' for 19 years now. Recently moved to Seattle, and it is the ONE thing I miss most about Denver. Yes, the ambiance isn't spectacular. In fact, it's kinda tired in a friendly way. However, the people are friendly/efficient and the pastries are the best ever - anywhere. I strongly suggest the kouign amann. It's softer than most kouign amanns, and far superior to any I've had (and that's a LONG list from many different cities). The almond croissants are also top drawer. Try them all! I was getting my yearly eye exam and stopped in for a coffee and to bring home some treats! I have always enjoyed my coffees/lattes/whatever I'm feeling that day here. I opted for an iced vanilla latte which was perfect. It was everything I needed in the moment. I took home an old fashioned donut, ham and gruyere croissant, and almond croissant. The old fashioned was so so and the ham and gruyere croissant was fantastic. The almond croissant was a tad too crispy for me, but the filling was yummy. As a neighborhood coffee shop, it gives great vibes. There isn't a ton of seating inside, but when you do find a spot, it's a lovely place to hang. The good: We stopped by this place mostly to get free wifi while we had to make an important search online and submit paperwork but we also got to try some delicious sweets/pastries (my daughter enjoyed the chocolate bundt cake). The aesthetics of this space is 10/10. It has that old-Denver charm and is definitely a cool and trendy old-school looking joint. We came here after getting breakfast nearby at The Cookery. A lot of folks come here to get coffee while waiting for a table at that spot. I enjoyed the indoor seating and being able to people-watch. They sell lots of giftable goods too (candies, coffees, toys). The bad: There's street parking that can get tricky sometimes. The bathroom in the back was smelly and was definitely noticeable outside of the bathroom. The interesting: I loved the adjoining gift store connected through the middle of this store. read more

The mushrooms were roasted and seasoned perfectly in the danish, although it was a tad oily (I think due to the cheddar they used). The galette was unique and delicious. Super flaky pie crust and a very flavorful filling with large chunks of broccoli. The service was very quick and they had a large selection available even at 11:30 on a Sunday. read more

Fan-flipping-tastic pastries at this cute shop. I get my hair cut around the corner, so I've been here twice. Both times I've gotten great drinks to go with the superb pastries, the first time a chai latte and this last time a lemonade. Both had great depth of flavor without being sugar dumps, so bonus points for that. Service was prompt but not a ton of friendliness, which is odd considering they ask for a tip. Stopped by here, my first time, after visiting the art walk today. I ordered a honey lavender latte with oat milk that was absolute perfection but what really had me in a chokehold was the almond croissant. Flaky, buttery crust with a warm gooey center of almond filling. I literally said out loud, if I ever go to Paris, this croissant will be what I compare a Paris croissant to. Last minute decided to stop by to avoid traffic, and I am so glad we did! This place is a great brunch spot. We got lucky and avoided the wait and dined at the bar. This place stayed busy! Nothing about the breakfast burrito stood out, except for the size was huge! Enough for 2 to 3 servings. It was good but I don't think it is something I would order again. I had a chance to finally stop by this cute bakery in the Washington Park area last week and had a pleasant experience. This place has an extensive menu for both sweet and savory baked goods. When I was standing in line, I had a hard time deciding on which pastry to buy. Interior decors are so eye-catching as well. Everything you see inside this bakery is vintage from 1920's era. It looks like a café in Paris where famous writers like Hemingway frequented (did Hemingway like coffee at all? Am I just making that up?) Lucky me; I ended up getting two pastries with one price, by an accident. I asked for a zucchini feta croissant but the barista (who was so pleasant to me by the way) couldn't hear me well (or the blame is on me; my voice wasn't loud enough) so he put a zucchini muffin in a little brown bag which I didn't notice until I had paid for everything (I also got me a 16oz iced black tea with light ice.) When I politely/apologetically informed him of the little error, he, of course, kindly corrected it by giving me the right pastry and allowed me to keep the muffin as well. He said, "It (the muffin) is for tomorrow's breakfast!!" What a kind gesture!! Both of the zucchini pastries were delicious. I also liked my black iced tea. I believe it's earl grey if I'm not mistaken. They put some (light amount of) cream in it but this cream did the magic. I do drink earl grey with cream in it so I wonder how he knew that without even asking me. Great job!! Right next to this quaint bakery, there exists another cute shop for gift and they are connected so you don't need to go out of the bake shop to browse this gift shop. I had my iced beverage/food in my hand but the guy at the cashier didn't seem it (I wasn't really consuming any of it anyway. Oh wait, I may have sipped my iced tea but I was very careful by not spilling it!!) Devil's Food Bakery is such a cute neighborhood gem- I was blown away by how inviting and cute the decor is inside. It's also really nice that the cafe is attached to a store that sells all sorts of great items that are perfect for gift giving. The bakery has such a great way of using some of the old charm (like an old fashioned, beautiful metal till that is then equipped with an iPad for the actual ordering/totaling), great open-air lighting, and light decorations. It's a place that I can imagine would be a nice spot to work remotely or to have as a spot to catch up with a friend. I didn't know what I wanted when I walked in and it was great to get recommendations from the staff there! The croissants and savory vegetable galette were all delicious. My iced coffee was incredible. Service was also fantastic. Super friendly and it seemed like they had enough staff to keep the place as a well oiled machine. We were a group of 6 yesterday morning for breakfast at 8. We had to wait for about 20 minutes which I found odd because there were just a few others waiting and there was an open table for 6 sitting in view. But as i discovered they ended up short staffed so no biggie, completely understood. Even though they said they were short staffed, once we were seated everything went perfectly smoothly. We ordered our drink and then our breakfast which was server in decent time. The service was really good. I had the Huevos Ranchero and added Jalapeños (of course) and it was really delicious. Everyone had something different, and everyone was very satisfied. It was very nice having breakfast together with family! By the time we left there was a bunch of people waiting for a table, that has to tell you something too. This is a place I would visit again. read more

Twice a year we drive to this wonderful area to walk our dogs at Washington Park. Each time we stop at Devil's Food Bakery to bring home several pastries for the next few days of breakfast. We have never been disappointed by the quality and eagerly anticipate our visit. This time we chose apple galettes and pineapple slices. The pastries offered are unique and as always, , scrumptious ! They wrapped them to go in a sturdy brown box. Yes they were a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for. This is truly one of the best bakeries i have ever been to in my 65+ years on this earth. Yes there is almost always a line out the door and staff is not overly chatty, but never rude, just busy. The name of the bakery should be Heaven on Earth because it is just that.
