This place is hit or miss. The drinks are average, and so are the donuts, though the handmade, custom donuts they make are creative and fun. The taste just isn't always there. I recently tried the egg nog cream filled donut, and it felt like it just didn't hit its potential. The cake for every donut I've had here tastes the same - bland and doughy. The ideas are solid but the execution is lacking. Can't say anything negative about the service, people have been nice during all my visits. I'll go back because there isn't much else in Mystic Village for decent coffee, but if someone else opened up shop I would definitely not choose Deviant first. The queue is also small and cramped, and the entire indoor seating area was done away with and is filled with stored items now. It's not a welcoming environment. read more

The donut flavors are unique with elaborated fun glazes and toppings like drizzles, fruit, fondant elements and an entire cookie to name a few. They always have the staples like Vanilla Sprinkle, Double Chocolate and Boston Cream. I love their brioche and cake style donuts. They always have a gluten-sensitive and a vegan donut on the menu. A huge tip is to follow their social media, Facebook or Instagram, because they will post the weekend's menu on Mondays with pictures and descriptions. You can pre-order online to make sure you get all the donuts you want and to avoid long lines. Depending on the theme, Deviant Donuts can get very busy and sell out early. When they sell out, they are OUT! They bake all the donuts fresh that morning. If donuts are not your thing, Deviant Donuts has other goodies like cookies, coffee and tea. I LOVE their cookies; crunchy around the edges and perfectly chewy on the inside. They don't just do donuts. The shop is small and there are a few tables and chairs outside. The seating arrangement is best for warmer weather, but Olde Mistick Village can get busy with tourist in the summer. When we visit the Village, Deviant Donuts is either the first or last stop. But donut was soggy and for this I had to stand in line for 20 mins and there was a bee which was flying and due to which the ladies at the counter made a big scene. Took a drive up on New years Eve with friends to get some tasty donuts. The donuts were delicious - we ordered a bunch of the New Years special menu - my favorite being the Chocolate Pretzel Fritter. This is a fun and unique shop in Olde Mistick Village! We went on Labor Day around 10 and they had a ton of flavor options and luckily, no line. We ordered two Boston creams, a tiramisu and a cannoli for donuts, then two specialty iced coffees. I agree with most other reviews that wished each filled donut had more filling in the center. While the donuts were quite large, there was very little filling in the center. The tiramisu was spot on and I wish we ordered two of them instead of the Boston Cream, definitely try one if you get the chance! The cannoli filling was very lemony and a bit thinner than the other fillings. While it tasted fine, I would skip this one next time. It is among the shops at Olde Mistick Village, so it can be the great start to your exploring or the best part to take home for later! There is no indoor seating, so if the elements are not conducive to enjoying on their small porch it will be a grab and go scenario. As with just about everything, enjoying fresh guarantees the maximum amount of enjoyment. When I make a trip, I usually stock up on just about one of each of everything to enjoy over a few days. I've been wanting to stop into Deviant for a while now. They have a menu that rotates weekly but they also keep staples on hand if you're not into the crazier styles. In fact, their staples were my favorites. The double chocolate reminded me of a moist brownie with high quality chocolate. It was easily my #1. Their marble cake is incredible and the ultimate blueberry is just that--ultimate. Blueberry donuts are always my go-to and Deviant's did not disappoint with theirs. As soon as I knew we were planning a trip to Mystic, I pre-ordered about a dozen donuts from Deviant Donuts, especially when I saw it was Classics Week! The death by chocolate was literally one of the best donuts I've had, and I have a pretty high standard for donuts. I definitely rank Deviant Donuts in my top 5 for CT donuts! The s'mores was fantastic too with an amazing marshmallow cream. They had a great selection, and though I wish I could have the donuts from the classics week menu again, I think it's really cool that they rotate their menu weekly. I also really appreciate that their donuts are creative, but not over the top. You can actually finish these and not get weighed down with too much sugar like some other donut shops. I'll take it that maybe we caught them on an off day, but this place seems like a gimmick. We went basic - Boston cream and Samoa. The donuts were almost FOUR DOLLARS each. Absurd for how average/bad they were. Absurd even if they were good to be honest... Let's put this into perspective. I haven't left food on my plate in 5 years, lol. I threw out 2/3 of the Boston cream -- it was burnt on the bottom and the cream? Def not custard, can't even really explain it. Mega disappointed, but I just dumped it and left. The Samoa was okay, we didn't finish that one either, it was just very average. This place sells super gimmicky donuts that kids might appreciate, yet their customer base was all adults based on my 20 minutes in line. A "jaws" donut that was very cute looking, a "cheeseburger in paradise" monstrosity -- I mean just gimmicky but they have a following so they must be doing something right. I hate to say it but there are "boutique" donut shops everywhere in NJ where I'm from and they run circles around this place in flavor and they are $2.50 max. To charge $4 for what they served us was highway robbery! The staff we dealt with were super nice, really the only reason for 2 stars. We finally made it to Deviant Donuts, and all that I can say is WOW! We went to celebrate Harry Potter's 40th birthday and try their special donuts for the occasion. We preordered our donuts and were able to skip the line. Seeing how busy they were, this was a very good move! The donuts were not only huge and delicious, but they were exceptionally well decorated as well. I almost felt bad eating them, but since they were some of the most delicious donuts I have ever tried, I didn't feel that bad. Deviant Donuts is in Mystic Village, which is full of mini shops. After you pick up donuts, you can walk through to visit shops or other restaurants. It's a very cute village! Deviant Donuts offers brioche, filled, cake, gluten sensitive, and vegan donuts. The brioche are my favorite. They are very fluffy. I love that there is a theme each week and each donut is super creative. The July 4th week had a donut that looked like a burger with mousse and frosting. That was my favorite flavor that week! Each year for the anniversary they have a special donut from each of the three bakers that fit their personality. They are usually a variation of a cake theme but they are great! Located inside Vault Coffee Roasters in Old Mystic Village. We made the trip down to Mystic for their Star Wars theme last month and was so impressed. We missed out on their Marvel theme in January (damn you Whole30) and couldn't live with ourselves if we missed this! My son and I spent the night at Mohegan with plans to visit Deviant in the morning. Located in Olde Mistick Village, it was very easy to find. You cannot miss the purple and pink facade. Inside, the decor was, as my son referred to it, very modern. A small shop with big flavors! We grabbed a French Toast, Cookies and Cream and a Pumpkin (vegan) for my husband. My son and I polished ours off in the car. The filling in the French Toast was a maple cream, light and fluffy. I'm not normally a maple fan, but this was finger licking good! My son tried a bite, but he was not a fan. Who could blame him, when his donut was covered in crushed Oreos?! My husband got to try his when he got home from work. He said it was good and moist. We went for Harry Potter day and they reccommend coming in before 9 to get the donuts of the week. We came at around 10 and were still able to get 3 of the specialty donuts: (gluten-sensitive) blueberry Ravenclaw, (vegan) Chocolate Frog, and Hogwarts Letter. The donuts cost a bit, about $3 per donut, but they are gourmet for sure. I think it's worth the price. We were able to split them between our family and each were able to enjoy them. Some of them have fillings and some don't. I think it's great that they offer allergy-sensitive donuts, especially to include those options as part of the rotating themed donut selection. All young girls working in there, but the one who took our order had an attitude about her and came off as a little rude, even though we were perfectly nice and just placed our order with no complaints. I had heard so many great things about Deviant Donuts that I knew I had to try it when we were down in Mystic after attending a wedding. The line looked deceivingly long but it moved SO quickly. They definitely have that place running like a well oiled machine. It was a bit later in the day so I wasn't sure what they would have left but they had a great selection! We went with cookie butter, double chocolate cake, sprinkle, and a maple bacon fritter. My favorite was hands down the cookie butter, it was sweet and decadent and everything I've ever dreamed of.
