This was a large spot with outdoor seating along with a sushi bar. I did not get a good look at the inside as I sat outside on a nice day. The menu had a little bit of everything ranging from Thai to sushi to Vietnamese, a very fusion type feel to it. The service was friendly and the food came out in a timely manner. Three items were ordered and tried. They consisted of the sushi nachos ($14.95), bao buns with chicken katsu ($12.95) and the Mystic River roll ($19.95). The nachos had diced tuna, sliced avocado, Pico de Gallo, topped with spicy avocado sauce and tobiko and served over fried wonton skins. There was a nice portion here. I thought they were going to be small wontons, but this was a pleasant surprise. There was a great ratio of flavors, and I really enjoyed the small dicing of everything. The bao buns were topped with sliced cucumbers, spring onions, carrots, and some type of sweet hoisin sauce it appeared. The chicken was very crispy and tasty. The bun was okay. It was a little tough. I did enjoy the sweet factor from the sauce to pair with the hot and crunchy chicken. The Mystic River roll had tuna, salmon, mango, as well as avocado topped with spicy mayo and was wrapped in a rice wrapper. This was alright. This is a tourist trap. Do not expect quality in food or service. Read the other reviews here (we did not). They got our order wrong, started mopping the place while we were still there eating, and then forced 20% "large party" gratuity on us. The entire time the staff was busy chitchatting among themselves rather than attending to us. Our own server had to be reminded about bringing the correct time and then about the check. Which they again forgot started yelling "bill for table xxx". To our server - calling your customers "love" is unprofessional. TL;DR version: really bad service again, and food was inedible because of spice level. So after 5 years of avoiding this place, we decided that it would be a good night to get some pho and Pink Basil was the only place around. "I'm sure things have changed after 5 years" I naively thought. We went in pretty early for dinner hour so the place was fairly quiet. Got a table and then began the ignoring. After a good 15 minutes of waiting, a server came to our table with water and asked for our orders. I had a plate of noodles, my son had some sushi and my husband had the beef pho. The food was delivered at a reasonable time by someone who wasn't our server, we ate and then sat and waited. No one came to check on us, offer drink refills, nothing, which was unfortunate because my husband's pho was so spicy (he wasn't asked how spicy he wanted it when we ordered and since pho isn't usually spicy at all we thought we were ok), he couldn't finish it and since no one came around to our table, the issue couldn't be corrected. Forty minutes later, the person who took our order came back and asked if we wanted the bill. Twenty minutes later, we received the bill and then another 15 minutes after that, she came back to process the payment. I visited with my kids after quite some time, and since they're big Asian food lovers, we were all looking forward to it. Unfortunately, they were not impressed with the "red" Pho, it didn't taste like your usual Pho. I ordered the Pad Thai and Drawbridge rice. The rice was good, but the Pad Thai was quite bland and unusually red in color. In the past, I remember the food being much better. I used to come here often when they first opened, and even on occasional visits after that, but this time it just didn't meet expectations. The menu has a wide variety of Asian dishes from Vietnamese, Korean, Thai, Japanese, and etc. Fried rice dishes, pho, sushi, curry just to name a few. The menu also offers a lot of customizations, vegetarian, gluten free, and healthy options. You can choose spice levels on most dishes, and they don't hold back on the heat! If you can't do spicy food, i recommend level 1 or no spice. On our most recent visit we shared a Papaya Salad that I enjoyed. Typically, I'm not a fan of fish sauce, but this dish didn't have the usual strong taste. We were also able to order the salad without peanuts. I was excited to order a Pumpkin Curry with tofu, choosing a medium spice. The bowl was like a warm hug and it was a big helping that I took half of my meal home. They really need to update or reprint their menus as the writing on the descriptions are rather small and the other was their cleaning team. They kept banging dishes and utensils to the point it was rather annoying. Pretty loud banging going on. Other than that our dining experience was great. Food came out and was delicious. Although my description of the shrimp teriyaki said simmering about brown and red rice, which I thought I'd try but what came out was white rice. The restaurant is located right in mystic village, which is the perfect place to walk around after having lunch or dinner ! It's also located right next to the mystic aquarium! They have outdoor seating with covering perfect for the summer . Food: I have not had Thai in a while, but I think this place has quite the variety for a menu. Between sushi, Thai, and other dishes there's a lot to choose from! Our appetizers both were very delicious and simple, it wasn't too filling either. I got the Mee Goreng noodles with a spiciness level of 1, which was plenty for me (I don't have a good spice tolerance). It was very delicious, a little on the blander side maybe due to spice overload, but otherwise good. Service: our waitress was very nice and took care of us promptly when we needed drinks and boxes (expect to take something home the portion sizes are huge)! Atmosphere: it's very cute in this restaurant and if you haven't been to the Olde Mystic Village, it's in a very nice location. There's also a sushi bar where you can watch them prep your sushi! We had a really great first experience at Pink Basil and we can't wait to go back. When we walked in at 3:30 on a Monday, we were the only ones there. By the time we were done eating, all but two tables were taken. The inside is adorable? Beautiful? Pink and fabulous? I'll just go with all of those. Totally spoke to my girly self. Pink everywhere. Fake branches and flowers. I loved every inch of the decor. The service was pretty good. The server helping us was kind and helpful, but a couple of the other employees seemed quite unfriendly(like the person who sat us made us feel a little like an inconvenience). But our server made up for it. Our food came quickly and our water was refilled often. For food we got duck green curry, chicken pineapple fried rice and two sushi rolls. Everything was amazing! The pineapple in the rice was great. Firm but cooked. Great slight curry flavor. The green curry was delicious! So flavorful! I'm obsessed with fried sushi rolls and theirs was fantastic and had a great smoked salmon flavor without being overpowering. We each got a Thai iced tea and they do it right! Walked in as party of 4 and stood there awkwardly while 4 employees stood at the front stand speaking across us to the sushi chef. Hostess came over and seated us. Server was confused when we put in our drink order before our apps. She never offered refills. Maybe she was inexperienced? The absolute worst part was the very loud busing of dishes. They have a cart they load all the dirty plates into and it is very loud as they stack plates etc. Very unappetizing to see a cart full of dirty dishes and half eaten food roll by the table. The first two drinks were quick, the third was slow. When it came time to wrap leftover pho, we were given a standard takeout container (the aluminum kind wi, not suitable for anything with broth (we live in RI and needed to transport it home). The bartender decided to alter our receipt after we left to give himself an extra $20 tip. This is NOT how business should be done! I'm really upset! Slow service is one thing, not considering that broth is a liquid is another, but altering a receipt is absolutely wrong. Pink Basil is a beautifully decorated restaurant in Olde Mistick Village in Mystic. I visited on a Wednesday evening and there was plenty of seating open, but I have also been here on weekends and I reccomend making a reservation if you plan to visit during peak hours. Our server was kind but there seemed to be some miscommunication throughout the ordering process. We ordered a chicken satay appetizer but the server came back about 15 minutes later saying they were out of chicken satay. We ordered chicken wings instead, but another server brought out chicken satay! We asked to cancel the wings we ordered earlier and the original waitress said she already took care of that, which was nice. The situation just made us a little confused but at least it ended up alright. The food was good, the chicken satay (not pictured) was excellent with large pieces of chicken that were seasoned very well. It didn't seem like the spice levels we asked for were present in the dishes like the noodles or fried rice, but they were happy to bring us out a spice rack. Overall, I definitely recommend visiting this place on a trip to Mystic. It's super easy to stop in and make a reservation while walking around Mistick Village and you will absolutely receive a satisfying meal. read more

The Chicken Lettuce Wrap came with 6 large lettuce leaves (wish they were smaller). The chicken itself was drizzled with hoisin sauce and was cooked just right. The sushi also wasn't bad, but they did come drenched in a lot of sauce/mayo. The Godzilla Roll said it was filled with Spicy Kani (crab), but it wasn't spicy at all. It was just filled with a normal imitation crab piece. The sushi rice was a bit on the overcooked side / was chewier than I personally prefer, but it was still good enough to satisfy my sushi craving. Well I can certainly say that I won't be going back to this restaurant again. The staff did not greet us as we waited for a table. When we were finally greeted they led us to a dirty table. We waited another 10 minutes before a girl came over with water and silverware. We asked if she could wipe the table down and she said nothing, just walked away and came back with a towel. My friend said that she had eaten there before and that the food was good, so despite the shakey start, we stayed. Our server finally came over and took our order. Drinks came over after another ten minutes, just sodas, nothing fancy. Food took 40 minutes from when we ordered. My husband ordered a veggie dish with chicken and a side of rice, he said it was good. I however, got the most horrible meal, a curry dish with shrimp and chicken. I believe the shrimp may have been rancid. I patiently waited for our server to return so I could tell her. We did see her....when she asked if we needed to go boxes at which time I stated No that the dish was inedible. She took it away and went to the kitchen/management. She came back and said that they took half off the dish. I explained that I did not feel that I should pay for this since it wasn't eaten and it was suspected to be spoiled. She left and a man came over (manager maybe) he said that I should have told the server if there was a problem and they would have remade the dish. I told him that she never returned to our table or we most definitely would have let her know the issue. He seemed disinterested and almost annoyed. He walked away at which point I thought he was going to further discount the check. That didn't happen, nothing happened. Our server returned with a handheld payment device and watched as we paid (how very rude and unprofessional) all said and done we paid for our meal. Left a very small tip and promised ourselves to never return. As someone who works in the service industry, I never would have handled this situation like that. So unacceptable. I've tried pink basil multiple times and I have been greatly disappointed and disgusted every time. The food is never correct, and just poor quality. Dining in was the worst experience I've ever had. We were sat and no one came over to us for 45 minutes and even then we were just asked for drinks which we waited another 15 minutes for. Recent example: we ordered beef pho and I mind as well made boiled beef, noodles and water. Absolutely no flavor at all. I'm done trying to give this place the benefit of the doubt.
