I'm not really a fan of donuts at all. I was recently in Mystic with a few friends. I saw a cute donut shop that also sells coffee. I figured let's get some donuts and coffee to share. The long line in front of Deviant Donuts made me think this is worth the long line and long wait. The donuts they sell here are are really cute and and very creative. I got the orange chocolate, can't usually go wrong with that combo. I also got a small regular coffee. One of my friends got the Ginger Molasses donut. This is all so awful, these are crumbly, dry and have no flavor, they're also $4.00 each, that's really overpriced if you ask me. Like I said I'm not a fan of donuts, these certainly didn't change my mind, but my friends who love donuts were also not impressed. None of us could finish this dry, crumbly mess called gourmet donuts. I did enjoy their coffee. It was basic, but very good. I also like the packaging and the presentation of the donuts. Not sure what good that is. I would not recommend going here at all. read more

Came here a couple weeks ago and got the orange and strawberry sugar donut. So good! They have so many fun flavors so it was really hard to decide. I also ordered a hazelnut latte but didn't taste any hazelnut at all so that was a little disappointing. I would definitely come again and try a couple donuts! read more

Just a little tip. I know it's on here already, but I'm going to say it. This place is located inside vault coffee roasters. It's facing the highway near the back of the village. It's on the side of a red building. With that being said, time for the review. I've been wanting to come here for so long, but I live an hour away. After a long wait, I finally got to try this place and I'm so upset they are so far from my house lol. The brioche donuts were SO GOOD. They change their menu every weekend, so I can only speak for the donuts I got but every one was soooo good. I got half baked, vanilla brioche, strawberry shortcake (which was made with croissant dough. Also called a crodo I guess??), and the Samoa. The donuts were amazing, and I can't say it enough. The people working are so nice and there's one girl there who had a shark tattoo and she was the best. There's no rush when you get to order. They take the time to answer your questions. They make sure everyone is satisfied and that's why I believe it takes so long for the wait ( I waited maybe like ten minutes) but it's not too bad. I love this place! read more

I was warned by my sister who lives in CT that they sell out quickly and that the lines are always long on the weekend. This was a holiday weekend and I'm not about that long line life, so I pre-ordered and picked up at their pick-up window the next day. Thank goodness I did because of course there was a line. I was in and out in less than 3 minutes and skipped away happy. The donuts themselves were soft and delicious. Even leaving them out on the counter overnight they maintained their moisture. Had a great experience with my almond cro-do, which I had seen them post on their instagram feed, and which I had to have, in addition to my breakfast, on our first day in Mystic. The donuts are sold inside of Vault coffee, a very cute little coffee shop inside the Olde Mystick Village, a few miles from downtown Mystic. On the day we were there, there was a line out the door, and once we got inside, we could see over a dozen delicious looking donuts and cro-dos (croissant-donuts) to choose from. If I didn't go in with my heart set on the almond cro-do, I would have been totally overwhelmed by the colors, fillings and descriptive names of the selection on offer that day. Thinking back on it, I should have bought a dozen, or at least a half dozen, but that could have resulted in me having a real, true sugar coma, if I had been unable to convince the others in my party to join me in eating them.... Anyway, the almond cro-do was basically a donut made with croissant pastry, in the shape of a donut with a small hole in the center, cut in half and then filled with almond cream (making it into a sandwich), and dusted with powdered sugar and slivered almonds. Every bit of it was decadent and delicious - the pastry was perfectly buttery and crunchy but still soft; the almond cream was tasty and sweet but not just sugary; and the size - it was a meal. Seriously. I would definitely order that particular donut again, and if I lived closer, I think I would be a regular consumer. But as I live in Rochester, NY, and Vault is over 6 hours away, I will just have to live vicariously through the instagram feed. read more

I love me a good donut! I have been waiting to try Deviant. The first time I went I passed in getting a donut because I had reservations elsewhere in the village for sweets. When I was in the store I asked questions and found the staff rude. I thought maybe just those folk but I stopped in again last week during the Illumination Fest. Again, found the staff rude. I was standing in line at the door and a girl yelled at me to stay where I was. Then when I was being waited on the guy clearly did not want to discuss flavors. There was a long line and I thought it might go quicker to talk as opposed to stand and read the tiny description. Not a lot of options but hey it was an event I get it. I ended up getting a snow themed donut that was supposed to be marshmallow. It tasted like Boston cream filling instead of marshmallow. The design element of my snowflake tasted like the Jesus wafer at church. My daughter took two bites of her candy donut and threw it out. This could be the worst service I have had in 42 years of my life. Forget about the stale $5 donut. Sitting on the porch on a Monday afternoon and the skies open with the biggest torrential rain storm I have seen in years. Lightning, Thunder, Hail you name it. Knocked on the door to walk in for the safety of me and my 6 year old son who suffers from anxiety. He was hysterical crying asking if he was going to get electricuted. I knocked on the door that was just locked (5:02 PM) where there were about 5-6 customers still in the store. The employee Emily, a young woman with many peircings, opened the window and asked what we wanted. When asking if we can come in until the storm dies the answer was "we are closed." Again cofee in hand and half a stale donut also in hand from literally an hour or less bought there before hand. And again 5-6 customers still in. Emily REFUSED to let us in while lightning and thunder were rapant, hail coming down like it was the 7th day after the Pharoah let the Israelis out of Egypt. Biblical weather. I pointed to my hysterical son and she could not care less. Again the other 5-6 people inside made no difference to her as they walked in at 4:55. I have never seen my son so scared. I hope no one visits this horrible establishment. I hope Emily is fired for this and I will make sure the owner knows how horrible of a human being she is. Maybe their other donuts are fine. I don't know and don't care. They hire Nazi robots to serve coffee and donuts. Emily - I hope you are never in a position where you need a human being especially a stranger's help. In the heart of Old Mystic Village this place is a must try. We tried the Samoa, French toast, and Canoli doughnuts. We were there early, so the doughnuts were super fresh, and not just tasty but also beautiful. The doughnuts melted in your mouth. The Samoa was our favorite of the bunch. The French toast was also very good, it was a cinnamon sugar doughnut filled with whipped cream and topped with a vanilla butter cream and a strawberry. The cannoli doughnut however was a bit of a disappointment. I was expecting a sweet ricotta filling but it was actually just a glazed doughnut filled with whipped cream and topped with chocolate chips and cannoli chips. I have been following this shop for a long time because I saw her their donuts on Instagram. The store is about an hour from my house and I thought it would be a nice ride to take during a pandemic when we really don't do anything else. Also their donuts looked amazing. So we went the other day and had a lovely ride to Mystic and found the donut shop. It is in such a cute little shopping center. There are plenty of signs to keep yourself socially distanced and safe while waiting outside. They only allow I believe five people at a time in the shop which is nice. They did not have a huge selection of donuts but that is typical I have found out for a boutique donut shop. And they had flavors of donuts that I had never heard of. We were trying to limit ourselves to four donuts to share and it was very difficult to make those choices. Some of the donuts we tried like the raspberry with the frosting on top were amazing. I would've liked to have tried some of the other flavors but there was one which had lavender as a flavor and I had to have that. And that's why unfortunately I gave four stars instead of five. The other donuts that we had were incredibly delicious. The one with lavender in it tasted very strongly of perfume and it was actually difficult to get it past my nose because of the strong perfume scent of lavender. Now I say that but acknowledge that it could've been the one donut that had too much lavender in it. It could be that I don't like lavender as much as I thought I did. Or this donut was just not to my taste. But I was disappointed by it. The people were very nice. I felt very safe shopping there and I will definitely not let the lavender deter me from returning and trying other donuts. I traveled about an hour to this donut/coffee shop. I wish I had visited last month to try their gingerbread donut. I got 4 donuts on Sunday Morning. They put it in a box for 6 which caused them to slide around inside. I ordered the: 1. vanilla glazed-so soft with gooey glaze. Pretty good. 2. Carrot cake- the cake donut was not soft and moist unfortunately. Took one bite and wasn't impressed so I moved on. 3. Cookies n cream- it was basically a glazed with hardened , SWEET frosting on top w/ Oreo pieces. If this was executed correctly, it would have been my favorite but sadly it wasn't. A let-down. 4. One the best coffee roasters in the area branching into the gourmet donut world, and doing it right!!!!!! I was literally just saying how I wished I could get a gourmet donut without actually having to drive an hour and then potentially wait hours in line. Right in the heart of Mystic located in olde Mystic village, the coffee shop just recently decided to add deviant donuts to their menu. I have now been stopping in every other weekend or so and noticed they have this down pat. Wasn't too long ago that last I arrived at the vault by 830am which is what time I saw on Instagram that they starting to sell these freshly made gourmet masterpieces. I remember having to wait for an Oreo donut as they were already out of the first batch and in process of making a second batch. Something else worth noting is that like every other gourmet donut shop popping up, half a doz donuts is right around 20$ I believe the freshness and quality is well worth the extra cost. I love that vault is finding success with this extra clientele and that they seem To be keeping up with the phenomenon and keeping their menu changing all the time!! Can't wait to stop in again! I bought five donuts from Deviant Donuts (vanilla glazed, double chocolate, Boston crème, chocolate sprinkle and peanut butter) today and as of now I've tried three of them (vanilla glazed, double chocolate and chocolate sprinkle) and they're all AMAZING!! It's very clear from the first bite that these donuts are made fresh!! The double chocolate is probably my favorite of the three I've tried so far. It's rich, decadent and super chocolaty without being overly sweet. Perfect with a cup of coffee. Boston crème donuts are my favorite so I have high hopes for them and I'm really looking forward to trying the peanut butter donut as well because it came recommended by the super sweet girl on the register. The entire staff were super sweet, helpful and very efficient - without making you feel rushed - which was great because they were very busy. I have been wanting to go here for quite a while and finally made the drive down. The donuts are located in Vault Coffee Roasters. It's a pretty small location and with all the donut aficionados or maybe donut addicts. Which after coming here I think you'll find yourself in that line almost every weekend with rest of them. The selection here changes every weekend but they have a few main donuts that are always on the list. I went with a brioche donut with a mango glaze, blackberry drizzle and fresh blackberry on top. First bite I was hooked the soft fresh donut delicious mango glaze with a slightly tart blackberry drizzle yum just yum. My Mom had the same donut as me and she said it tasted like more. My Father had a Fresh Strawberry Jam filled brioche donut which he agreed was one of the best donuts he's had. They don't skimp on quality here and they come up with different combinations all the time. They also have cake donuts but I only looked at them because 1 donut is my limit. Olde Mistik Village sure needs some help these days, and I'm sure its management was excited to bring Deviant Donuts in to save the day. What can I say? There aren't many choices for "real" donuts anymore now that Dunkin has taken over the market with those little sugary air pockets they call donuts. Any bakery that puts a little bit of effort into making donuts the way they were pre-Dunkin gets an A+ from me. Deviant is not the best donut shop I have been to, but it's certainly a cut above anything else I've had when visiting Mystic each summer for 20+ years. $3.75 for a donut is a little steep, especially given that it's going to take at least two to satisfy you. I just tell myself, "I'm on vacation!" Overall, I hope Deviant survives in this once-flourishing, now sluggish location. Give them a try and see if you agree. read more

And their staples give you something to rely on every week. They are only open three days a week, but that makes it a special weekend treat. They also offer gluten free donuts every week. Stopped in before leaving Mystic Village. Limited selection on styles of donuts but they were very creative in their designs. What set me back was the price! But we were in the shop so we ended getting a glazed donut with sprinkles and a double chocolate cake donut. We got back to the car to eat them and the glazed donut was just that, a raised glazed donut. Nothing spectacular and we decided Dunkin' was just as good. The chocolate cake donut was definitely chocolate, no question about that. It had a chocolate glaze and what appeared to be a sugar glaze as well. It was huge, sort of like an ice-burg where the majority of it is hiding beneath the surface. It really was more like a chocolate muffin with a whole in in. It was tasty but so often with cake donuts it was on the dry side. Can't say that we'll be going back anytime soon given the cost (7.50 for two donuts). If you want to be adventurous and have the money then go for it. They weren't lacking customers from what we could see of all the boxes people were carrying. I should mention the box the donuts were put in was big and very sturdy so I'm sure that amped up the cost of the donuts. read more

I struggle with food allergies and eat a lot of vegan food because of it. It's hard to find high quality vegan donuts so I've very much enjoyed discovering Deviant Donuts! Every time I visit Mystic, I stop in and order whatever vegan donut is available plus a lavender lemonade. The lemonade is initially light pink/purple and turns yellow over time, which is cute and the lavender flavor is divine. Every donut I've had has been delicious, but their vegan Coffee Oreo, London Fog, and Gingerbread donuts are a step above the rest.
