They always take their time and make sure everything is done perfectly, and I never feel rushed. The staff is so patient, detail-oriented, and truly cares about making sure you leave happy every single time. I recommend this place to anyone, they have charms on charms and can create the most detailed sets. I honestly cannot praise them enough! Another huge plus is their hours, they're open as late as 8 PM, which is super convenient. And as a little bonus, Taco El Norte is right next door, making it perfect for a girls' day. Although the strip mall Designs Nails is in looks a little run down, don't be deterred like I was! After a few years of living in Palatine I decided to check it out as it's 2 minutes from my house. Boy was I impressed! Tommy here is wonderful. He knows I come after a long day at work and leaves me to watch movies on my phone with headphones while he does my nails. there have been many times he's offered me a cup of coffee when he brews a pot, how nice is that. You really can't beat the prices either. I was shocked when they rang me up the first time and gave me the price. So inexpensive for such quality work! I've always gotten nails done here bc they're all so amazing with detail and it's all very affordable but I chose to also get a pedicure this time. 20 YEAR CUSTOMER HERE. I have been coming to Design nails over 20 years. They have great staff, and great work! Always using innovative new technology and tools too... I am one to take them a template picture for my nails and they always come correct! I definitely suggest an appointment as they are always busy. If you want to come in short notice on Friday or Saturday evening might have to wait... I mean thats a no brainer... Mary, Tommy, Mimi, everyone there works extremely hard!!! They work open to close everyday, always staying late, and sometimes working thru lunch/dinner. They have been in the community a very long time and help making us all look and feel great! Don't forget to acknowledge them as humans too! Would it kill you all to thank your tech, maybe bring them a coffee once or twice. Please please please I have seen to many times, people bring a picture in of extremely difficult nail set and get mad about process and price. Then don't tip either Do research of what your asking not everything is $20. The prices go up for every extra you are asking for.. DISGUSTING CUSTOMER SERVICE , HORRIBLE NAIL QUALITY, DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY... The "nail technician" who did my set ended up cutting and making me bleed while doing the service and she continued to put chemicals on my cut and be very aggressive when finishing the full set. She gave me a painful nail file cut when shaping. View pictures below before you consider giving this PATHETIC nail salon your money. This place does not even deserve one star. I went here because I saw on Yelp it had somewhat decent reviews. I called around 12pm, asked if they would have time for full set later that evening owner said yes no problem to come in later. I get there, show photo of basic coffin red nails. The "nail technician" who did my nails couldn't even do a basic set. Struggled with shaping and mad every nail uneven and lumpy, when I confronted her she got mad and began to speak in her language loud and Mary came over to fix the horrible shape her co worker had began. Mary "fixed" the horrible job the other woman did the best she could. Very rude customer service I should of just told them to soak the full set off but I did not want to do that as I was exhausted from work that day and wanted to get out of there as soon as possible considering the poor quality of work they did on my nails and horrible customer service in there. I wasted 2 hours of my life and $50 to these pathetic nail salon employees/owners. I honestly should of not gave them a penny for this trash they gave me. If the owner of this salon is reading this - please do not take clients that want nail sets that your poorly trained nail technicians cannot re create you are wasting other people's time and making your business look like a bigger joke than it is. Save yourself time and money stay away from this place. Unsanitary, giving clients open wounds and putting chemicals on them, can't even paint nails correctly. Mary and her entire staff here at design nails are incredible. Not only do they value customer service but they are all very talented at what they do. They take walk ins but I would suggest making an appointment on weekends because they do get busy. But busy is good, that's how you know you are going to the right place! The first time Mary was so nice. I called for a second appointment she said no open appointments, she then called me and said that she had a cancellation When I got there the place was empty except for one customer. I ask Mary where are all your appointments she says that they all canceled. Seems fishy to me. But anyways Mary did a good job. My only problem was she slapped my hands too hard like she was spanking me. Also Mary kept saying to relax my fingers, she bent and twisted my fingers Like they were made of rubber. I have arthritis in my hands. The next day my fingers were hurting. She claims I'm too sensitive. I'm not that sensitive I have the right to complaint if I'm disrespected. I have visited at least 6 nail salon in the northwest suburbs and they all have have some kind of people problem. I hope it's not because of my color. read more

I would've given one star, but I will say the women in the salon were very friendly and the prices were good. However, I cannot give more than that. I was looking through their limited selection of paints for a pale yellow color when I settled on what I thought would fit that. When my nail tech (a man, not sure of his name) saw this color I selected, he asked if my boyfriend would be mad about the color (1, I don't care what men think and 2, I came with my girlfriend..). Then he told me that color would stop traffic and cause a car accident. I asked for a blue color as a backup, and he returned with a lavender (read: purple) color. He then proceeded to put this shade on two of my nails. When I hesitated, he told me not to look at it too long, like "when a boy looks at your face, first glance is good, but only for a few seconds" (I am not sure i heard this 100% correctly, but this was the gist.). He also asked about other nail places and proceeded to make demeaning and racist comments about the techs at other local salons. Now, I have left with the purple color that I never asked for nor wanted. I wanted to like the place but I am disappointed and, frankly, a little hurt by my experience. Service is so slow. They don't follow through with appointments, have poor communication with guest. I was really excited and grateful that they take walk-ins as the salon I usually go to was fully booked for the rest of the week and I needed to get my nails done for an event that was coming up. I didn't catch the name of the technician (I think her name was Mary) but she was sweet and super quick. The whole process took maybe about 30 minutes max. The salon is located in a plaza that is a little run down but overall I am extremely happy with my experience and the best part was that it was very inexpensive. I've come in here twice. The first time was okay. Mimi did my nails. I needed a place that did acrylics since I got them done in Vegas for the trip and needed a fill. They were good but I asked if she could do a silver stripe. She said yeah no problem. But we had issues when trying to get the stripe on. She said she had never done it before so she wasn't sure. She was very nice about it though. There was silver stripe hanging off the tip of the nail and at the nail bed so before the end of the day it was peeling back. The crappy stars are from the second time I came. My nails had grown out while I had the acrylics so I thought I would try dip. I was attended by some guy who was playing on his iPad when I came in - whatever not an issue - the lady by the door (Mary?) told me that he would be helping me and to sit. Ok so I sit for a couple mins and he doesnt acknowledge me just keeps on his iPad. A little rude but whatever so he starts taking off the acrylics. I'm soaking them off and he goes back to playing on his iPad. He just kind of half ass comes back and squirts acetone into my cotton on my nails every time he checks and theres acetone running all down my hands and it's all over the table. At some point he sees me looking at it so he grabs a paper towel throws it over it and puts my hands in bags. So he finally starts taking the acrylics off but he again just kind of half asses it I could see pieces of acrylic on my nail left and he just moves on and starts dipping my nails. I had never gotten it done before so I didn't know what to expect he dipped each nail more than twice for sure and then would grind it down and mess something up and back into the dip. I could tell he was messing up cuz he would grunt - mind you at this point I'm pretty sure we havent spoken aside from him asking shape and me saying roundish and was gonna explain and he's like ok ok. Ok we're in the home stretch now and I notice the top of my right ring finger has a clear/white spot near the top. So I ask him whats going on here. He dips again and doesn't grind it down this time because I'm pretty sure he doesn't want to run into whatever garbage was in the dip... cool cool so I left with one thick ass nail and all of my nails different shade/thickness. Honestly they looked like milk duds. They're an okay place - not great - just stay away from the guy. read more

not sure why such negative reviews!? Designs Nails has always been my go to, and I always regret going elsewhere when I can't make it out to the burbs. I haven't had a bad time with any tech, but Tommy is by far my #1. He takes his time and makes sure your nails are perfect before you walk out. They gave me a girl that sits in Tees table she has no idea what she is doing ! Went for mani she ruined my nails ! Came in for a Mani/Pedi. During my pedicure she seemed to have forgotten what she did to one leg as she put lotion on one, and not the other. When buffing my heels and balls of my feet, she left them rougher than when I came in and when I asked her to buff them because they were still rough, all she did was put some Vaseline on them. During my manicure, I asked her to even out my nails. I should left it alone, because now my middle finger nail is completely lopsided. As for the cuticle removal, I'm honestly shocked. The skin around my nails has never looked so bad and torn up, it looks like I'm in desperate need of a manicure, not like I just got one. When she want to clip my cuticles, they did not look like they had been cleaned. She would clip my cuticles and put the plastic cover back over the clippers without cleaning them, and the nail clippers had something stuck in them (likely other peoples nails) that she had to pick out and then proceeded to use them. I didn't see her wipe any tools down before or after me. Honestly just shocked that people recommend this place. read more

I live in the city, but was in the area and decided to try this nail shop. I am so glad that I did! Mary, (managing partner), is the sweetest lady with a truly skilled knowledge of nail design. She is fast, yet takes the time to ensure each nail is perfect. (I currently get the gel acrylic service). She gets the shape and the designs right every time. Not only is she a great artist, she is also the sweetest, kindest lady and a pleasure to talk to. The shop itself is spacious and nicely designed, with a tv to watch, several pedicure chairs, a quality drying station, and plenty of waiting chairs. Even though this is a far drive for me I make the trip since it is hard to find a great nail artist you really enjoy.
