Derby Wine Estates has been on my list of places to try for a while. Every time I drive from Paso Robles to San Luis Obispo, I pass by this beautiful building, and I finally had the chance to stop in. One of the best parts? No reservation needed! I did a walk-in wine tasting, which made the experience so easy and enjoyable. The staff was friendly, welcoming, and very knowledgeable about their wines. I was especially impressed with their rosé, it was absolutely delicious! I loved it so much that I left with two bottles. The winery has a great atmosphere, with outdoor seating and cozy fire pits, as well as a lovely indoor tasting area. It's a great little spot to relax and enjoy some fantastic wine. Can't say enough about how much we thoroughly enjoyed our wine tasting here at Derby. Both Emily and Danny were exceptional at making sure we knew exactly what was in each glass, and gave us invaluable information about the vineyards and what goes into their winemaking. On a cold and rainy morning it was nice to get a warm greeting as we were there right when they opened for the day. We settled in for the classic tasting, and came away with some delicious bottles. One of our favorite winery in the heart of Paso Robles. We enjoyed Friday concerts here. You can buy a bottle, or wine by the glass and get a table under the shade to enjoy the music all night. Staffs there are always friendly and fun to chat with. Clean and roomy bathroom, and really good red and white wine with very reasonable price. My wife and I brought her two brothers and sisters-in-law with us to Derby, unannounced. We have been Derby members for many years, since we first tasted their Pinot Noir. Since then, we have always enjoyed their outstanding tasting experience. This trip was no different, as Sean treated us six like royalty. He not only let us taste anything that was open, which is always the benefit of membership, but he allowed our group to go up to the top of the tower with our purchased wines and have a no-host private party. This was all after we just dropped-in. There are many great wines and wineries in Paso, but the hospitality at Derby is the best of any of the numerous wine clubs that we have been in, past or present. read more

Had a wonderful time celebrating our 29th wedding anniversary with Sean as our host. Been wanting to try Derby for quite some time. Really happy that we opted for the special tasting in the tower upstairs. Sean kicked us off with the 2007 sparkling Pinot Noir and it was delicious. We were able to try 7 other wines and liked most of them. Sean made us feel very welcome, knows a ton about the wine and area and is such a nice guy with a good sense of humor. There is an outdoor and indoor section for tastings. Unfortunately no food, but some cheeses and other snacks that you can get. Wine was good, not my favorite winery in Paso, but still we had some favorites in there. I think they focus most of their wines on the westside and have more coastal influences (Apparently West Vs. East is a thing in Paso). Overally super cute, great for a stop in for an afternoon tasting in the sun. Honestly we had a great time. read more

I am really happy that Derby got a real home instead of the trailer they previously had on Hwy 46. The tasting room was super slick, modern and very nice. We got there early on a Friday so we were the only ones there and had the tasting of their flight of wines. $10 tasting fee and waived with purchase. We picked up the 2011 Fifteen 10 which is a blend of five different wines and was excellent chilled. What a shame. They make such amazing wine but they've got a horrible wine ambassador named Danny who is bringing their rating down. This is a man who cannot even taste the wine he is pouring because of COVID and yet insists that COVID is a hoax and a conspiracy and made no attempt to hide such views from the clientele. We sent an email to the winery's management about him and it was clear that he was aware of it today when we visited and he told us we had to leave, using F-bombs and the like. Great wine, but spend your money nearby at Herman Story as their wine is orders of magnitude better and their staff would never, EVER treat us as rudely as we were treated today. read more

The building is a beautifully restored storehouse built by the California Almond Growers Association back in the 1920's - a tasteful and historical art-deco, early-20th century California vibe pervades the site. We did not plan to stop at the Derby winery but are glad that we did. Danny was fantastic since we arrived. He provided a full history of their wines and made great recommendations during the wine tasting. He also gave us a tour through their facilities. One of our favorite wines was their 2014 Man eater. I've been to Derby now several times. After our recent trip last month and considering the many tasting rooms I've visited in the PR area Derby has become one of my favorites. Why? Friendly and knowledgeable staff - always, reasonable prices, and great wine. Probably one of the few wineries that haven't impulsively jacked up their prices since PR was voted wine region of the year in 2014. Yes, I noticed and thank you. Many red wines to choose from here both single varietal and blends. This is also a great stop if you like white wine, many available to taste and they're all good and about 20 something bucks. Something else unique about Derby is their three distinct vineyards. Compare and contrast tasting wine made from coastal vineyards, West Paso, and East Paso. Cool to hot climate. There are a lot of choices of places to visit in Paso. Good vibe here and an easy relaxing stop right off the 101. read more
