This is one fine and incredible hidden gem in Pasadena. It is located immediately next to Der Wolfskopf with a sign pointing to go downstairs. Inside, they play excellent music with a big emphasis on hip hop. Any place that plays Kendrick Lamar is pretty awesome in my book. There's very interesting art on the walls reminiscent of Alice in Wonderland style artwork, all of which are greatly enhanced by the dark lighting with candles. The bar area has ample open seating with a few large booths, small booths, and tables. The atmosphere and overall lightning is very dim, toned down, and dark but chill and relaxing at the same time. It gives off a very mysterious and cool vibe that we enjoyed. We went on a Saturday night around 11:30, but it didn't get packed and busy until just after midnight. There is a TV that shows movies on Netflix (we watched two old classics, The Sandlot and the Replacements with Keanu Reeves). They had two very friendly and attentive bartenders who know how to make great drinks. We started off with $4 mystery shots (but $6 if you ask what's in it) that smelled and tasted like a mix between Fireball and cough syrup. Next, we got a Radlerita (tequila, grapefruit radler beer, triple sec) which was very sweet and fruity. Then, we got an Irish Mule which was strong on the ginger beer and just how I wanted it to be. Finally, we finished off with another ginger beer cocktail that was once again strong with the ginger tastr and exactly how I want it to be. There was also beer and wine on the menu that we did not a chance to try out. Overall, I would totally recommend this place for anyone to try out. The tables were wobbly and sticky and the waitress did not even ask or attempt to wipe them down. We ordered bottomless Mimosas cool they kept them coming. However if you finished a plate they would not remove the plate nor would they even check on you if you were done so you just had a bunch of empty plates sitting in front of you and they would take an hour at most to move them. The food was decent and the tacos were good however it came down to the service and the waiters or waitresses. My buddy ordered a beer and it took 30 mins for him to get his beer. I asked for water and it took 20-25 minutes for water. The pitchers of beer are expensive and the service was horrible. I definitely wouldn't go back. I came here on a Saturday at around 1pm and the place was pretty much empty. I wanted to find a new German place, especially since the smoking at the Red Lion Tavern was getting out of hand, making my 13 year old son want to murder the people at the next table. Anyhoo, this is a nice substitute but not the same. I ordered their smoked beer bratwurst and a stein of their unfiltered lager and I can't complain. They have fries and tater tots (harkens me back to school cafeteria food in the 80s) instead of German potato salad and their sauerkraut is cold instead of warm. The bratwurst and sausages are served in a thick roll (like a hot dog) instead of on a plate and they include jalapenos and peppers as garnishes. Still, the quality of the food was good, but it doesn't give me the same cravings as I do for Red Lion. I supposed I'm saving the lives of smokers by going here instead of our usual haunt. If you like this place, don't go to Red Lion because you won't like Der Wolfskopf as much. read more

I had no idea the Rad came in any flavor other than grapefruit, but my most recent time in, they had Zitrone and it was just as damn refreshing, if not more, as its cousin. Yes, the ABV count on it is dismal, but man does it do the trick most of the time. I've also cruised by for happy hour on many occasion and it's definitely a steal, though prices aren't too shabby if you catch them on sadder hours. They also have HUGE ass mugs to drink of if you're hankering for more than just a standard pint. For their grub, I'm a fan of their soft pretzel, totchos, and the sausage plate. Staff is friendly without being overbearing, there's all kinds of seating to please even the most anal of derrières, and they've got lots of trivia nights and the like if you enjoy your libations with a side of entertainment. read more

ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE **BEWARE LADIES** Came here to celebrate my friends birthday, we were a group of 10 girls. There was a guy who was serving and assisting us, but come to find out he wasn't even an employee. We confronted our waitress and she confirmed he was not an employee, but "just a regular customer." Legally he should not be serving guests if he's not an official employee. He was also staring at us the whole time, which was very uncomfortable, as well as constantly coming to our table and harassing us. He ruined our evening. Service was slow and horrible. Came here for the 49er watch party. I had made reservations, when we arrived we were told our reservations were for the patio. Not what we wanted but figured we were already there and the game was about to start. While ordering drinks were told we had to order from the "patio drink menu". The beer selection was limited and of course the beer we wanted was not on the drink menu. We were told we could go to the inside bar to order beer there but it would probably take forever...the food was cold and took a long time to come out. We canceled some of our orders.... It was a good time watching the game with fellow 49er fans but the food and service was disappointing. Maybe they were understaffed and not prepared for a crowd that large.... And I did not like that depending where you were seated determined what you were able to order. The manager did comp some of the food. The food was decent but it was an odd menu. I expected lots of German options, but there were only a few, and instead there were several Mexican dishes. The giant pretzel was a bit hard/stale and the beer cheese was viscous. We walked through the indoor restaurant - which seemed closed - to get to the back patio. Pretty solid food with good beer. Order at the bar and your grub/beverage is brought to your table. Ordered the large sausage platter, which was pretty good. They didn't tell us which sausage was which, but we did our best at guessing. If said guesses were correct, I'm going to say the Nuremberg sausage was the best of the platter. Also had the pretzel plate with the savory beer cheese. Pretzels went really well with the honey mustard they brought to the table as they created a wonderful sweet/salty combo. We also had the wolf-style fries which were adequate. Beer-wise, I like lagers and was pleased by both I ordered. Didn't go with the steins as I wanted to walk out of the place. *DRUGGING CUSTOMERS* A few things before i really get into it... On July 31, 2021 i came here with my gf to have dinner and drinks to catch up (civilized night). We were expecting to sit inside der wolf but seemed like there was some event going on so we ended up sitting in their back patio. We ordered some food and a drink each. As we were hanging out, the bartender took a really strong liking to us and didn't leave our side the entire night even though he was working. We didn't think too much of it though. As we were drinking our drinks we ordered, the bartender "kindly" gives us two extra drinks. He said he wanted us to try it. I gave it a sip but didn't like it. My friend Drank one of them and He ended up giving me another order of my original drink instead. 2 drinks in and 2 hours in - i was completely fine one moment and completely gone the next. I completely blacked out and do not have any recollection of the night after 9:30 pm. I remember that time specifically because i called my boyfriend to let him know i was still out with my friend. However after that call.. was when my memory continues to draw blanks. I had eaten too so this is not a usual outcome after 2 drinks after a reasonable amount of time. All i know is my friend and i had 2 drinks + food and we both could barely hold ourselves up by the end of it all. We both spent the night completely blacked out, wrecked, and throwing up when we did have the energy. This type of response after two drinks is not normal and sketch as hell. There was definitely an outside substance in our drinks. We are just lucky we miraculously left the bar when we did. By the fcking grace of the universe. I'm writing this as a caution to ANYONE that is deciding whether to come here or not. People's drinks are being spiked/drugged here. This place needs to SHUT THE FCK DOWN. I am not the only one w this similar experience. Unfortunately we were not able to try the food her which looks amazing but we did soend some time downstairs in the bar/lounge area. The reason I only gave this place 3 stars is because the food is not allowed downstairs....BOO! I showed up hungry and excited to try a lot of the foods only to realize we had to be upstairs to eat.
