Huge patio and perfect for people that want to watch the game. However when they do get busy the drinks can take hours to come out. Also the tables are pretty sticky and full of ants. Food is mediocre. Sat at the bar when it was not busy and didn't get good service. The guy was nice WHEN he was paying attention. Had no water for half of the meal. My sisters meal was late. Like I had finished my entire meal before hers came. The guy said he's take it off the bill, but it wasn't. They shorted me 2 shrimp on my order. They did bring me a new full order after I said something, but they charged me for both. For Pasadena, where can you go where on a Wednesday you can see a bunch of live bands, another night sing karaoke, and another go to a cool underground bar space. This is it. Probably my favorite neighborhood bar because they are always trying to do stuff. Drinks are good and their whiskey selection is better than you would think. This is a chill place to hang if the nightly activity suits you. This place was a heaven to come to during Covid, where they had an awesome outdoor space. Pasadena however is being obtuse in letting people enjoy it. Would give this place six stars if they opened it back up. read more

Nice atmosphere here. Street parking is (as in all of Pasadena) difficult. Park in the structure. So the staff is nice, and the food and drinks are good. There is a sister bar downstairs (the Rathskeller) which is pretty cool. The only thing I would warn against is that, at least on weekdays, they close the grill pretty early. Also, if you are looking at the beer menu in photos on Yelp, they may not be being served anymore. We were looking forward to some of the beers listed in reviews and when we got there, they were not on the menu at-all. This is listed as a German pub with a beer garden. It is no longer that! False advertisement. It is now a cantina still using the the name of the German pub. They must have purchased it because it serves Mexican food and import/domestic beer. When I asked the waitress if they carried the Der Wolf brewed beer as listed she said yes. That is what the modelo & stella is. Didnt even know what a brewed beer was. when they ran my card for the beers I purchased it came back as "Victoria's cantina". Very disappointing. read more

This is NOT the same bar as before. The "bouncer" checked our ids and we went in per usual, went to the bar to order when a BARTENDER demanded to see our ids because we could've snuck in the back.... We tell him our ids we're already checked he says he has to go check with the "bouncer." Ok fine. We end up checking out. Yay? The actual atmosphere of the bar is completely changed. This was a cool underground German bar before, super chill. Now it's more of a club. There is now horrible music playing on repeat and the tables have been replaced with little stools to place drinks on. The German beer list is basically non existent now. I understand people need to make money, so good for them I guess. This place was once so unique and now it's totally generic. We won't be coming back. read more

I hate to read such negative and faulty sounding reviews for this place. Der Wolf is my favorite bar to go to in the neighborhood. Not sure how the atmosphere was prior to Covid, (as per reading the angry comments about it not being a German type of bar anymore), although the atmosphere now is one that I hope stays! This place is NOT Der Wolf. What I am assuming is that they changed ownership after struggling with the pandemic, which so many restaurants did. We used to come here when it was still true to German flavors, both on libations and in food. After being away for so long we were excited to be in the back patio to enjoy the weekend. Instead of being welcomed in, we were greeted by a wannabe nightclub kingpin, claiming that this was "his patio"; we were grateful when he allowed us in. I mean, that is great customer service. Dude, everyone is adjusting and trying to recover, but you are not doing anything to help your cause. The music was terrible. It was loud like a club. So what about the dumpling place next door? Why do their customers have to be subject to Crappy autotuned reggeton? And there is not one German beer on the menu. But we had some friends come to us for a change (we normally go downtown) and my boyfriend and read about this place. So we decided to branch out and see how it was! My friend and I went here for "happy hour" and it was pretty much a bust. The service was awful! The place was pretty much completely empty but it still took us about 30 mins to just get our drinks. I finally got my order of wings and my friend sat there and waited probably an extra 45 mins for us to finally ask where her corn was. They brought it out and it had clearly been sitting in the back cause it was totally cold. Just not a great atmosphere and subpar food... the drinks were actually really good, which was almost unfortunate cause I will never be going back. There are tons of places with way better deals for happy hour in the area so you would think they would try just a little bit harder to keep up with competition... Der Wolf is a classic German Pub in beautiful Old Town Pasadena. The inside is exactly what you would find at a bigger pub, on one side there are long tables that seat 8-12 people on the other side more modern cushioned high top tables. This pub has both food and drinks, so its fun for everyone. A plus is that they have many TVs inside playing all the different games. Kitchen is open until 8:30-9 (I can't remember) so get there earlier if you want to eat. The happy hour has $5 drinks and some $5 food options if you are looking for a quick bite. There were many beer options, as you would expect. I ordered a Chicken and Hatch Chile with tater tots. It was really good! The bread that the sausage is in is not what you would think came with a sausage, but it definitely didnt take too much away from the meal itself. Tip: ORDER THE TOTS THEY ARE AMAZING!! read more

Wednesday around 10pm. it wasn't packed but there were good amount of people. there was also an open karaoke. had a blast there. ordered a total about 6 glasses of beers, i had 4 my friend had 2. the Vanilla Ale was pretty good. The hype here on instagram is very overrated, I decided to give this place a try to celebrate my sisters anniversary. I was expecting a host to sit us and acknowledge the occasion by my reservation. We were given menus at bar and sat ourselves which isn't a big deal but I was hoping for a more sit down experience. The service was okay, nothing special, she was in between nice and rude, just enough to get by I guess. I would probably give this place closer to a 3.5 stars (maybe one day that will be possible on yelp) but I digress. I came in on a Wednesday night with a group of about 10 people. We were looking to have some drinks and a bite to eat. The food here is not bad in fact some of the sausages and the tater tots are actually pretty good. I ordered the cheddar brat and I found it to be tasty. I wasn't crazy about the bun they serve it in because it was really over toasted and the texture was too crunchy. But the sausage itself was good quality. We also ordered the chicken and hatch chili sausage which everyone seemed to be a fan of. We got it with a side of tater tots which were really good and perfectly seasoned. I ordered a Bitburger which of course they had on draft. The ambiance is a bit dark but it definitely makes you feel like you're in a German beer hall. Between the food and the drinks overall it was an ok experience and I might come here again. read more

Pretty cool spot. Checked this place out recently, but didn't stay too long because it was a school night (jk about the school part) but in any case, I only had one drink. The bartender was cool. I asked him for suggestions and he chose a pretty good beer for me. I'd like to come back to try other beers, mixed drinks, and the food. I liked that I was able to talk in here. As a few others have mentioned, I think it has somewhat of an intimate vibe. Also when I went during the week, the atmosphere was just right.. it wasn't too crowded but it wasn't empty either.
