I've been on the search for an amazing sushi spot here in Dallas and I would say this is one of the better ones I've tried! When you walk in, it's very small and cozy. I had heard they can get pretty busy and that is correct! My brother and I went to the restaurant at 3:30 pm for lunch and it was still filled with people. When we entered the restaurant, the hostess informed us it would be about a 10 minute wait, which wasn't an issue for us, but there were several tables that did not have people seated at them so we were a little confused. When we finally did get seated it was at a table that had been available since we came in, but everything that came after that definitely made up for that situation. Our waitress was very kind and was very quick with any requests we had. When it came time to ordering, I ended up ordering the Lonestar because I had heard such good things about it, and I was not disappointed! First off, these pieces of sushi are ginormous!! I know most people would think one roll isn't filling but I'm not joking when I say these rolls are ginormous! Best sashimi/sushi in the DFW area! My friend from the Plano area suggested this place and we met here for a weekday lunch. It was busy, but we were seated immediately. I ordered the Sashimi lunch combination which comes with 10 pieces of sashimi. The fish was fresh and I enjoyed the variety. I tried my friend's Dragon Roll and while it was too large to eat in one bite, it was delicious with the fusion of flavors and the spice. My meal came with complementary miso soup and both of us received a complementary salad as an appetizer. It was inexpensive in comparison to most sushi restaurants and they were very generous with portions. Restaurant is clean and can be a bit noisy. Staff was very attentive and kind throughout our entire long meal. Wow! Everything in Texas is really bigger! Visiting my sister who lives here and we came here for lunch right when they opened! There were already a good amount of people in here when we walked in shortly after 11:30. Food: At regular sushi places back in LA, I can usually eat 2-3 roll and feel pretty good... But this place is something else.. Salmon Roll: HUGE! I've been to places that serve big portions but this was on another level. After eating 1 roll, I could barely finish my salmon skin roll (Not complaining, love it!) Salmon Skin Handroll: They packed this roll like crazy. Their Salmon Skin wasn't as crunchy as ones I've had before but still delicious! Ribeye Steak Teriyaki Bento Box: My mom ordered this and she said it was good. I tried a bite and it really was ribeye. If you've tried other Japanese restaurants, their steak teriyaki is usually overcooked and tough but this place got it perfectly medium rare! Kudos to them. They know how to cook meat to temperature. Spicy Chicken Bento Box: One of my sisters got this and she claims she can handle spicy but her nose was running! Haha it had like Medium amount of spice. Ordered take-out in this trip. I got the tonkatsu bento and calamari appetizer. First the Tonkatsu. Rice was good. The meat was good too. I would say it's unique as well. The texture from the side is almost tempura looking but it's not bad. The gyoza was okay too. Nothing special. Comes with salad and miso soup as well. The calamari basically look like onion rings but of course has squid. Pretty good. The sauce that comes with it complements it very well. The food alone would've been 3.5 stars but what bumped me up to a very confident 4 stars was some of the other subtle things. Upon entry and exit, resounding greeting and farewell in Japanese of course by the staff. Restaurant isn't that spacious. The only downfall is this place is PACKED all the time especially during the weekends. You are guaranteed to wait a while, but they do take reservations after 8pm. The tables are so close to one other, but I'm a social butterfly. We became friends with the 2 tables next to us. You can defintiely hear interesting conversations. We started off with the calamari, and it was probably one of the best I've tasted. It comes with a spicy mayo dip that is good. We decided to split 2 tempura sushi orders. Anyway, this place is as good as it gets in terms of sushi in Plano, Texas--which is possibly the diametric cultural opposite of Japan. My brother and I made it a tradition a while back to go every time I visit home. In fact, we go often enough that one of the chefs (this really friendly, wise grandpa-esque guy) at some point began to recognize us. His story: He used to work at Uchi before moving from Austin to Plano. Those familiar with Uchi know that its head chefs have made it to Top Chef. It is not surprising, then, that Uchi is one of the most premier spots for sushi in Austin. Point being, you can gauge the caliber of this restaurant if one of the chefs previously worked at Uchi. Really, knowing the previous restaurants a chef has worked at is a great way to benchmark credentials. Pros: * The decor is on point! * Very friendly and mindful staff * The food is mind blowing. My new favorite is the Krispy Roll. Truly a culinary orgasm. * Decent portion size * Great ambiance. I enjoy sitting at the sushi bar watching the chefs sculpt their pescatarian masterpieces. It's no less than an art. * The aesthetic of the food is artistic, fresh, and colorful: a plate filled with cute, edible geometry. * ...speaking of which, when you receive the bill, you are given an orange that is gutted and cleaved in the most intriguing way. * Lastly, homie senseis do not hold back on the amount of ginger and wasabi they serve with the sushi. So 2 stars for the food, and 4 stars for the service! Came in on a Sunday and it was PACKED. There were only spots available at the bar or a small area for 3 people to squeeze in so we decided that spot. We quickly got waters and were told that there might be a long wait for the food because just now the outside area just placed 20 orders! So we stated off with edamame. We decided on superman burrito, salmon sashimi, ahi tuna sashimi, and Lion King roll. We saw someone get the superman burrito and it was HUGE so we asked them to cancel that one, and they said they had already made it but were nice enough to cancel the order and not charge us. The sashimi was very good and fresh tasting, and they were thick slices! The lion king pieces were so big, and I am all about sticking one piece of sushi in my mouth instead of cutting it up but this roll piece would NOT fit. It was way too big for my liking. Since we did not get the superman burrito we ended up ordering Angry John's roll recommended by the waiter. Again, did not love this roll. The spicy tuna was not good to me. The top portion was tasty so we just ate that part of the roll. I don't see why a lot people love this place. Maybe they love the big portions, but I do not care for that. This is my go to sushi joint! I find myself comparing any other sushi restaurant I try to Densetsu, and it is never as good. Their rolls and service are awesome! There hasn't been a roll that I've tried that I didn't like. They have a good variety of fresh, baked, and tempura rolls. Not only is their ingredients good quality, their portions are huge. I've never left hungry. For my family of 3, we usually order 4 rolls and that is more than enough. The Ahi Tower, Hot Night Roll, Godzilla Roll, and the Snow Roll are a few of my favorites. I've also tried their Miso Ramen which I liked very much. Perfect for the cold weather! The restaurant does get packed during peak times on the weekend. It's not very big so you may have to wait. Last time we went on a Sunday night and it was a full house. Service here has always been great. The employees are friendly, helpful, and attentive. Food (3.5/5) Man, I used to really love this place, but things have slowly been going downhill. My default order has always been the Jay's Favorite Roll. It's a spicy tuna roll topped with pieces of raw salmon, avocado, and tomato. This roll used to be HEAVENLY with a generous amount of tuna and salmon to boot. However, my recent visits have visibly shown the deterioration in quality. The ratio of rice-to-fish in the Jay's Favorite has significantly increased, meaning there is now way more rice and much fewer fish than before. I don't know about you, but I prefer to eat sushi rolls and not a giant circle of rice with a bit of fish in the middle. Complimentary oranges are served at the end of the meal as a palate cleanser, which I appreciate so bonus points to Densetsu for that. Service (3/5) Nothing special to write home about. You can either place your order on the sheet with the provided pencil or verbally tell the waiter your order. The place appears to be run by Koreans but they happily greet you in Japanese upon your arrival and departure. It was endearing at first, but I have grown to find it a bit fake. Atmosphere (3/5) There's a sizable amount of room in the restaurant, but everything feels very cramped. Tables are squeezed right next to each other so come during off-hours if you don't want to bump elbows with the party next to you. Sadly, Densetsu used to be one of my favorite places for sushi. It seems I will have to look elsewhere before this place goes bad entirely. However, if I hear in the grapevine that things are turning around, I am open to giving them another shot. read more

DANG........ koreans sure know how to make some baller sushi. Shoutout to my boy Leslie T. and Jenny H. for taking me to this place for the very first time. I had heard a lot of praise for this place so i was a little hesitant that this place might not live up to it...... naw bro it does. You walk in and you hear some japanese phrase which probably means something like "Wuz up wit it" in japanese. We sat down at the bar and instantly i noticed that most of the employees here are korean. It was tough to listen to koreans try to speak japanese since we don't gots a good history with them, but oh well. We ordered the superman burrito, salad, spicy salmon roll, philly roll, salmon sashimi, and the angry john roll. Superman Burrito - a california roll in burrito form?!?! genius.... but why is it called superman? Densetsu uses a rice wrapper and puts in rice, crab, nice salmon and tuna sashimi, and serves it up with ponzu sauce and a spicy mayo aioli. The thing that made this burrito was the quality of the sashimi. I'll explain it in my sashimi review. Salad - veggies with octopus. Spicy Salmon Roll - Densetsu makes their rolls extremely generously.... 3 pieces at other sushi joints would equal one piece from a densetsu roll. The salmon was chopped up with a spicy sauce but not finely... it still had great texture almost like a medium course chop on a burger patty. You could feel each individual piece of salmon. Philly roll - cream cheese, avocado, and smoked salmon. Known as the fat boys roll, i loved densetu's philly roll. As i said before, the quality of the fish was very very good. Angry John Roll - 6 different kinds of fish on a spicy tuna roll with black tobiko and drizzled spicy mayo. Extremely generously sized and portioned. The tuna had a nice kick of heat with great texture (duh). Salmon Sashimi - With everything i do.... i save the best for last. I haven't had intensely good sushi since my trip to San Diego. The moment i took the first bite i was transported back to the sushi bar in San Diego where i had about 6 O-faces. Fresh..... buttery..... great mouthfeel.... this sushi was onpar to the Salmon Belly i had in San Diego. Thickly cut, i've never had salmon like this in Dallas. This is hands down one of my favorite sushi locations. I have never been disappointed whenever I come here for lunch or dinner. The rolls are much larger than many other sushi places and that is definitely a plus! I ordered the Ahi Tower which contains tuna and other concoctions that they mix together for you! You get a free show right before you eat. I also ordered the Cherry Blossom Roll which is also great. The sauce for that one adds a nice tangy kick to the dish. The Popcorn Lobster Roll is definitely one of my favorite dishes that I order at this location. The proportion is very big and you can easily split it among two people. The atmosphere is very calming and when you walk in you're automatically warmly greeted. The servers have always been very helpful and they do a good job about checking up on you without over doing it. The only complaint that I would have is that because it is a popular spot, lunch and dinner times are quite crowded and I have had to wait before being seated. However once you taste the food, you'll understand why you had to wait in that long line. The restaurant itself is actually very small also so you're very close with the other tables. Even though the place is run by Koreans, they're doing a very good job. I've lived in Japan for 4 years and Japanese food is by far my favorite type of food. I came here for the first time a few month after they first opened and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of their sushi. Not those wimpy small rolls for $15, or the low quality $7 rolls, or even the giant rolls overfilled with rice. None of those wanna-be rolls you tend to find in Americanized Japanese restaurants. I'm talking about real sushi rolls. We got to try out 5 different kinds of rolls and the volcano and the dynamite rolls were my favorites. I've also tried their Katsudon and Ramen during subsequent visits and they were both really good. For dessert, warning, their Tempura Ice Cream is larger than you think. They're delicious but I do suggest sharing it someone for your own good. The service was good and the owner tends to come out and greet all the customers herself. The price is a little high but it's backed with quality. The restaurant name "Densetsu" means "Legendary" in Japanese btw, for those that didn't know. read more

Huge, monstrous rolls here! No way you're going to be able to take one, cute bite because these rolls will break apart before you put them in your mouth. Took the BF here for an early birthday dinner. The sushi chefs have a fun greeting they say every time someone comes in. The restaurant is very small so avoid peak hours if you don't want to wait. We ordered 3 rolls for the both of us to share and surprisingly it was just too much food. Popcorn lobster roll- This was my favorite and my BF almost made me not get it. Ha! This is is more than enough for one person but plenty to share. Lots of fried lobster bits! Not quite sure if it's really lobster though... it could have been crawfish. I just couldn't believe that I could get a lobster roll for less than $20. Densetsu roll- The fishes on here are very fresh and I love all the elements. I'd probably just stick with this roll from now on. Dynamite roll- I've plenty of dynamite rolls in my lifetime... but after eating this for leftovers the next day I felt sick. The thought of it still makes me queasy... The sauces they used were a little off tasting to me... from the spicy mayo to the eel sauce. Service was great though! Back again for the third time! This time with my parents, who are food snobs. I just had to let them try this place because I know they would love it. And they did! We tried their Sea Urchin sushi (Uni), which my dad said was THE BEST Uni he has ever had! That's a lot coming from my dad. It was very fresh and really good quality! A few months ago, I would've given this place five stars, but I think they recently changed management, and their food doesn't taste quite the same. First of all, this place is usually packed, especially on weekends and holidays. But it usually doesn't take too long to get seated. Second, this place has some of the best rolls I've ever had, and in general their portions are huge. My boyfriend and I usually get the superman burrito (HUGE chunks of salmon & tuna with crab, avocado, cucumber, rice), a salmon tower (my favorite out of the sushi places I've tried), and a third miscellaneous roll. The superman burrito and tower are just too good to pass up every time we come here. However, the last time we came here, it seemed like the superman burrito had a lot less fish and way too much crab. Also, the salmon tower tasted.....different, like something was missing. We finally figured out that it was because they didn't add any eel sauce to the tower, and we had to ask for a side of eel sauce. The chefs and waitstaff all yelled (in a nice way) something I assume was in Japanese (saying hello)... that was cool... I looked at the menu and had heard about the lunch special... 5 pieces of nigiri that is chef's choice, but I saw that one was salmon... cool! The 3 choices of rolls did not have a salmon choice... bum deal, oh well I do like other rolls as well. Asked the waiter if we could sub in another one of the house rolls, yes!!!! Woohoo, sub me in some salmon baby!!! Out comes a bowl of miso soup and a salad to begin with... the salad dressing was really nice and had just a hint of wasabi flavor to it... wonderful! About the time the soup and salad are finished came the sushi plate... the roll was light on rice and had *Huge* chunks of salmon!!! I don't know what's in salmon but as soon as it hits my tongue some type of brain/chemical release thing happens and tunnel vision sets in... just me and the salmon. I usually get the superman burrito, which is the ahi tuna, salmon, crab meat and avocado wrapped around the rice and rice paper. They also give you spicy mayo and ponzu sauce which go very well! Another good choice is their heavenly roll, which is their riceless roll (they use cucumber instead of rice) and inside is the tuna, salmon and yellowtail I believe. Noodles were overcooked (almost mushy) and the broth was bland, but meat was sweet and salty. Love this place! I spent my last two birthday meals here. They give you a fried green tea ice cream as a birthday treat. Their rolls are huuuge. My boyfriend and I usually get two and we always have leftovers. I always enjoy getting the Ahi Tuna Tower or the Salmon Tuna Tower. It comes out looking like a delicious snowman than the server will mix it up for you. Excellent! I recently tried the Lion King Roll, which is shrimp tempura with eel and crabmeat. Also good! The only roll I've ever not completely enjoyed was the Heavenly roll but it did taste very fresh. Don't be the fool that thinks they can handle three. 2. Beware of the tempura rolls. Not only do they come in the traditional XXXLARGE size. They become a grease bomb in the pit of your stomach very quickly. 3. Do try the Superman Burrito. It's satisfying and has hunks of fresh tuna and salmon. 4. If you don't like imitation crab don't come here. If you like simple rolls, this is not going to be your cup of tea ( Try Sushi Sake instead). 5. The food portions are ginormous and it isn't your typical packed with rice & little sushi ploy some places get you with. It's a little difficult to eat in 1 bite & I'm not big on paying $12-$15 for a roll but it's worth it. Thank god the waitress talked me out of getting 2 rolls. I'm an eater folks and there's NO way even I could have finished them. The pickled cucumbers and marinated radish on the side add a nice authentic Japanese touch. I ordered the spicy scallop hand roll - it fell apart but was delicious and again HUGE! Even the (very fresh yellowtail) nigiri took 2 bites to finish. Hands down Best Shushi in Texas. I have tried dozen of Shushi Places in Dallas and none of them are even 1 star compared to DENSETSU. Not seeing owner around much these days. Service is really bad when she's not there. Orders came out fast. Waiter never brought us napkins or chopsticks. Waited 26 minutes for check, only to find out waiter left. Took order, had to ask for refills, and never saw him again. He was too busy talking to his friends and hugging other waitresses. Wait staff really screws off when (owner) she's not around. Sushi chefs are quite the opposite. Very focused and making orders at extremely fast pace. In fairness, food remains amazing. Decided to pop in for lunch about 11:30. It's true it is a small restaurant, but a nice atmosphere. If there are no available tables I noticed there is room at the sushi bar and there is a covered patio. We were able to snag the last 2 seater table right before what seemed to be a light lunch rush. Let me say first, we kinda over ordered. We didn't realize how big the rolls were (Not a bad thing). I ordered the bento box lunch special, which included miso soup, spicy chicken teriyaki, salad, rice & gyoza for about 10 bucks. The presentation was great & the contents were hot and steaming. We also had the California roll, golden roll, and shrimp tempura roll. Every bite was fresh and delicious. We took the leftovers to-go. The staff was attentive & kept our glasses full. We got a refreshing cold orange bites with our check & left full and happy. I will be back. read more

Ok, so I'm not a giant sushi fan, but when you're out with a Japanese person, you want to cater to them. After reading so many good reviews of this place, I decided to try this place out. And after eating at many better places, I'm lowering my rating. I had a Bento Box, which wasn't bad(the steak was overcooked though). She had a few different rolls and said the flavor was good, but overall it was overpriced for what we got. But, the fish was all fresh..it's not very high quality though. Service was very very slow, and it wasn't that busy. The sushi chefs were all messing around...young guys who took no pride in what they were doing. There were 4 of them, and our food was still slow coming out. The staff was very friendly though. It was ok, but for the price I can get sushi much better. I'd rather goto Hanasho for the price. The special rolls here are huge! Densetsu doesn't have happy hour, but I think their rolls are very well worth their price, if you're looking for some good, authentic sushi. We walked in, and the place was crowded! It's a pretty small venue overall, but there never seemed to be an empty table. We sat at the sushi bar, and the servers and chefs were all very friendly. At times we seemed forgotten, but random servers would come by and check on us. I felt like we had 3 separate servers, actually... I got the miso ramen, and honestly, I was a bit disappointed. It was mostly noodles with barely any vegetables or meat. The rolls were very good, however. I'll have to come back and try their other rolls. read more
