Delicious but expensive and needs something on top of the omlet to improve appearance!
    Steven B.

I grew up with Denny's and have visited them in many locations. Who doesn't know about their iconic "Slams!" The last time I visited this one was three years ago, and the food was good, and the service sucked. This time was different. Arriving- They are on the northbound side of US Route 27 and the signage is great. You can't miss them. Parking is a snap. Ambience- Don't get too excited! It's a Denny's and they all have the same look. The difference here is this one was immaculate and well maintained from top to bottom. My booth was pristine, and the carpet was spotless! I was very impressed. Pro Tip- Free Wi-Fi but it's a bit of a process to sign in. Customer Service- My server was the perfect argument for cloning! She was just amazing in every way. I queried a manager when I was leaving, and she has been a server there for 19 years! Food- The usual giant laminated menu with the first few pages devoted to everything breakfast. Every American style breakfast item is there with a little Mexican thrown in here and there. I went with a pick-four, build-your-own omelet that of course came with hash browns and toast. I added coffee and with tax the pre-tip tab was $22! Sticker shock! With tip over $25 for breakfast at a Denny's is ridiculous. Welcome to the post-pandemic inflationary world! So, I sipped on great coffee and my meal came out in about ten minutes which was great. The omelet was well cooked and tasted great with plenty of fillings. The hash browns were perfect. As you can see from my picture, the plate is a little bland looking. For that kind of $$, they need to add some zip to the top of the omelet so it's more attractive. I had a very good breakfast in a spotless restaurant with an awesome server, but I paid a pretty penny for it! I had a four-star experience for sure but imagine what a traveling family would think about those prices!

This is the craziest thing I've ever seen in a restaurant, think about it, you fly in from out of town to see your mother and your have 30 minutes from the time you food comes? What about a date, eat and out? The sign just put me back and clouded my opinion even though the service was very good and the food tasted as we expected.

French Toast Slam at Denny's in Sebring
    Bruce K.

Arriving early at 6:15 (couldn't sleep), I ordered coffee and a French Toast slam. That first cup of coffee took a good ten minutes to arrive, but after that my cup was refilled plenty. The French Toast arrived promptly. I had asked for "all sausages, no bacon" but instead of substituting the bacon for more sausages, I just got the two of them. And I wasn't offered any syrup either. Not enough to complain about (do I really need that much more fat and sugar?), I enjoyed the eggs (cooked nicely) and the French toast had an excellent taste and consistency. The restaurant was clean inside and out, the one waitress on duty was running pretty ragged taking orders, delivering food, seating customers and doing the register too. Poor gal!

Wines from all around the world. Their list rivals the finest Miami restaurants. I started with a Green Goddess Wedge Salad. The Green Goddess dressing was delicious. It was a nice change from the standard blue cheese wedge dressing. My entree was the Suprema Christina, a classic from 1992. It's a tender chicken breast pan sautéed with mushrooms in a sherry lobster sauce. It came with two jumbo Key West shrimp and linguini pasta. The side green beans were pan seared and nicely wrinkled. The whole dish was an A+. I also enjoyed a nice Justin Cabernet Sauvignon. This restaurant and hotel are nicely positioned near the water. The lobby was beautifully decorated for Christmas. I highly recommend visiting this great establishment.

Chicanes Promises Upscale Dining but Delivers an Uneven Experience…read more Chicanes carries itself like an upscale dining room, which is why the night's missteps stood out more than they should have. The evening began on a sour note, and not because of anything on the plate. A heavy downpour had turned the entrance into a shallow lake with slick footing, the kind that makes every step feel unsure. My husband took a hard fall, wrenching his back and bruising his hip. Another guest later mentioned the same slick approach, which tells me this is more than bad luck. For a restaurant that draws an older crowd, safety at the door should not be an afterthought. Inside, the welcome was much warmer. The staff was friendly and our server Ethan handled the holiday rush with calm attention. He stayed present without hovering and made sure we had what we needed. If only the kitchen had matched his level of care. The Thanksgiving menu looked promising, but the execution never quite reached the level the price tag promised. The lobster arrived overcooked and clinging stubbornly to its shell. The sauce meant to lift it fell flat. The butternut squash bisque was pleasant enough, though short on depth. The apple walnut salad was a clear winner. Crisp, balanced, and bright. It deserves a permanent spot on the menu. The entrées continued the theme of missed opportunities. The vegetables needed seasoning, especially the Brussels sprouts, which tasted like they had skipped the last step before leaving the kitchen. The potatoes au gratin stole the show, rich and comforting, which only highlighted how muted everything else tasted. For a meal tipping the scale at around $140, the food should meet the standard the setting implies. Chicanes has the bones of a great restaurant. The staff is strong, the room is inviting, and the menu choices read well. But the flavors need more care, more confidence, and more seasoning. A place aiming for an upscale experience has to deliver more than ambiance. There is potential here, but potential is not enough at this price. With steadier footing at the entrance and sharper execution in the kitchen, Chicanes could be worth the splurge. Tonight, it wasn't.

Oscar is a real person and he's still there and an all-around great guy! So today I blew in for breakfast. Note this is a breakfast & lunch place that generally closes at 2pm. Arriving- They are on US Route 27 South in Village Fountain Plaza. It's hidden way in the back as deep into the plaza as you can get. Parking is plentiful. Ambience- Pretty typical for Central Florida. A nicely finished room that is light on the décor. Booths along the walls and tables in the middle. A small side room for the lunch Taco Buffet. Pro Tip- They do not have their own Wi-Fi, but a Xfinity Hot Spot is close by. Customer Service- My server today was adequate. She seated me immediately and I had coffee and a menu within a minute or two and said coffee was refilled when needed. Her personality was neutral. Adult Libations- If you come here for lunch, beer and wine are available! Food- This is a Mexican American joint, so you'll see both on the standard fare menu. I ordered the Chorizo Omelet with Home Fries and of course coffee. I paid a little extra for a side of Pico de Gallo. My tab pre-tip was $15. My omelet had a little kick and was truly exceptional! The home fries were just OK. A couple of pieces were undercooked, and a couple were burnt. The Pico de Gallo was crazy fresh and delicious! The coffee was excellent. I'm a sucker for Chorizo so you can take me here any time. Don't forget there is a Mon-Sat ACE Taco lunch buffet @ $10! Four stars!

The inside dining room is wonderful! A true old-fashioned tropical feel. Our waiter was a little odd, but competent. I wasn't real hungry, so I just had a shrimp cocktail. My friend had the duck. The shrimp cocktail was delicious, the cocktail sauce, a bit spicy. Had too much pepper for me. When I mentioned that to the waiter, he told me it was not spicy. He said it only had pepper in it. I said well after I mixed it was a little better. I don't think a waiter should contradict what a customer says if there is a problem; he should help to alleviate the issue. Obviously, somebody didn't stir the cocktail sauce well, still the pepper was a bit heavy. What's troubling is I specifically asked the waiter if the sauce would be hot , as in spicy. My friend said the duck was very nice. As I recall, they served some complementary bread and it was good. I hope to go back to Palm Heights, where this restaurant is located, and I am sure to go back to Tillies.
