What can I say about Denny's that nobody else has said or experienced ... it's Denny's. After a day visiting three national parks - Sequoia, Kings Canyon and Yosemite - and 12+ hours in the car, we were tired and hungry. All of the towns within a 50 mile radius of Yosemite were rip-off, tourist traps with "cheap" hotels running $180 up to $600 per night (Coursegold, Oakhurst, Groveland), so we moved on to Oakdale. After finding a relatively reasonable room ($85/night), we dashed over to the only restaurant in town open at 10:15PM, Denny's. My wife had a "Moons Over My Hammy" breakfast sandwich ($9.59 - ham, egg and cheese on sourdough with hash browns) and I went with the 55+ Special, a Chicken-Fried Steak ($9.99) with Caesar salad, mashed potatoes and country gravy. My wife liked her sandwich and HB's and the chicken fried steak was small and probably frozen, but not bad for the price. The star of the show was the Caesar salad, fresh, big and tasty with lots o' croutons ... HOOAH! The place was clean, the service good and the food consistently "Denny's". Denny's.. Denny's... Denny's. So good for those late night munchies. This time I was craving for breakfast around 8 pm or so after hiking out from Yosemite. It was quite when we got there. Huge place. Clean carpet. Our waitress was quite the expert. According to her she's been working the industry for 30+ years. But Murphys Law was in full swing this time. It was swinging alright and she threw a toast with butter right unto my chest :) she said it never happened to her before. Sure...! She's cool and I was exhausted so I didn't really care. I was there for the eggs. Now that's a different story if she ruined my over medium :) She's also bad with prioritizing. Food was getting cold right by the kitchen while she was busy joking around. Sigh...but then again this is Dennys. Bathroom was awful! That's all I can say. I'm glad I ate my over medium before I saw the over easy in the toilet bowl. Gross! read more

It's a hit or miss with Denny's and this place was definitely a hit! We stopped by around 4am on our way to Yosemite. The place was a little empty, but that's ok. Our waitress was super nice and energetic for having to be awake and working at such an odd hour. The wait for the food was a while, but it was good because the food was amazing. Everything was cooked well and not sloppy! My hashbrowns were crispy on the outside and yummy on the inside. My eggs were good too. The portions were pretty big - more than what I'm used to. This Denny's is a bit better than most Denny's. For my rating system, 3 is still good. It isn't great, but I'd go back. The meal I ordered was actually a 4 for a coffee shop. I ordered the salad with grilled chicken. The salad was fresh and the chicken was decent. My ice tea was OK. My husband's hamburger was probably more like a 2. It was super, super greasy. So, if you like greasy burgers, you should order a burger. If not, you might want to skip the burger. The server was very friendly, attentive, and efficient. The bathroom was OK - not bad for a Denny's. The floor was a little bit dirty. But, everything was stocked well. There is plenty of parking. Checked on line and found Denny's offers free children's meals with the purchase of an adult meal. Well, we had six adults and four children. We ordered breakfast. Had almost everything they offer. Food was good, came in a timely manner. Waitress was very attentive without being over bearing. All was going great until we went to pay the bill. WOW! about $20 more than we expected. When we questioned the amount of the bill, stating children eat free. OH NO, not here. Apparently, this independently owned Denny's, does not honor children eat free with an adult meal at full price. Wish this was listed somewhere when we came in. It was not and the manager made no apology for this sudden shock. So when you go out for a meal, make sure you know what you will be charged with. Still in-love with Denny's food! I ordered The Sliced Turkey Sandwich with a side salad. The turkey breast slices were soft and it was paired with bacon and melted cheese. It was yummy but I found it a tad salty good thing I ordered a salad remove the saltiness a bit. The bread was also crunchy and I think it was cooked like a grilled cheese sandwich, i.e. seared in butter. For a second time I ordered the Iced Caramel Coffee. It was prepared differently than the one iN modesto tho. In this branch the caramel was already mixed in the coffee whereas in Modesto you get the syrup and you get to stir it in the coffee yourself. It still had the same great flavors. As for the salad, it's very fresh. The cheddar cheese wasn't sharp enough for my liking but I guess it's because it should complement the dressing/vinaigrette and not overpower it. read more

So I ate at this Denny's the other day...Friday I believe. Establishment was clean enough and the food tasted exactly what you would expect from a Denny's. However...the real problem was with the "help." Heidi was her name and it's quite clear she does not like people of color. My wife is Hispanic and we could hear "spic" being uttered under her breath when my wife asked for some condiments. That coupled with the change in her demeanor when she came from a table of Caucasian folks back to our table to "follow up." Her attitude changed immediately and she was nasty and short with us. Won't be going back any time soon...pass along to your friends and family...especially if you are a minority person...approach with caution. read more

I decided to try them out today because of their home delivery service. I placed my order and was given an estimate of 30 minutes. An hour and ten minutes later when my food arrived I was pretty understanding because dealing with takeout/delivery only is a new thing for all of us. As I start unloading I my order I immediately notice that there was no meat with my kids breakfast. I gave them a call which was answered by a gentleman, maybe Richard, but not sure. I let him know what was going on and he told he didn't understand how that could happen and even if it did happen, what do I want him to do about it?!... Awkward pause while I process this dude's tone and total nonattempt at a resolution. "I guess bring me the sausage‍" He told me if I want it I would need to come get it. After waiting over an hour and tipping a delivery driver all in an attempt to avoid going into a store if I want my complete order I would have to come get it. I tell him no, that he needs to refund me the cost of an order of sausage. Enter super sarcastic tone: "ohhh yeah, I'll go in the back and get riiiiiight on that". At this point I hung up because I was about to lose it. Afterward I realize that I had two containers of grapes. One was the container of grapes that I ordered with one kids meal. The other, I presume, was the "seasonal fruit" that I paid extra for with the other kids meal. I am eating bacon and sausage. Pancakes and maple syrup. My woman is across the booth from me, eating oatmeal with sliced bananas. She is always eating healthier then me. I am drinking a Diet Coke. She is drinking orange juice. She is always drinking healthier than me. We are headed back to SF from Yosemite. Don't ask how we ended up there. It doesn't matter. We are glowing with relaxation. He is a big guy, even sitting his size is imposing. He is wearing a loose grey muscle shirt and white sweatpants. The sweatpants are too tight. He has a buzzcut and a three day growth. He is all blue color. Involuntarily, I think to myself, this guy loves guns and potatoes. He is laughing so hard, he is having a hard time talking. "I'm sorry to interrupt, I really am, but I couldn't help but overhear." My woman and I smile. "Oh, yeah? No prob. What do you think about Anderson Cooper?" His laugh turns hardier. "You said it best, ma'am. Jackass! They all are. So are the politicians. They all are." We all laugh amiably, still at a distance. The fat lady in the booth across from me starts coughing like the plague. She chokes something up. "So, are you a tea-partier, then?," my woman follows up, never scared of a good conversation. "Nah, I'm just an independent," he responds, never losing that wide smile. "You know, I talk about it on my blog. I'm a marketer here in Oakdale. I have a little office in downtown. This Denny's is one of my clients, I like to get to know my clients. But it is like I say on my blog. You have to think about the issues. Everything else is just window dressing." He points to his head, smiling broader still. "You've got use your noggin. You've got to use your head." A waitress named Millie walks by and rubs the marketer's head. "Oh, Mark, the Marketer . . . " He looks up at her, his eyes glimmering. "All I'm saying is that a vote is a vote and that is important. You shouldn't just throw it away because of some silliness like the Ground Zero Mosque or birth certificates or any of that. Thinkg about the issues!" Someone drops a plate somewhere. This is one of the random places that I have visited and will review, simply because it is in Oakdale (as I'm sure many are thinking, where?!?) . I have been here twice now, each on my drive home with friends from the Yosemite area. The food quality is about what you expect from Dennys, always on the greasier side. Though I am happy to say that since last year, they offer many more healthy alternatives for the healthy eaters. Of course, that isnt to say that they still don't offer the delicious, heart stopping macaroni salad and cheese sandwhich. One thing to note is if you plan on making this place a quick pit stop during a road trip, think again. It is always pretty crowded with a wait so you're better off going to a Mcdonalds for a fast run if you are trying to get somewhere. In general, if you have time to chill, this is a great place to enjoy a hot plated meal that is not a a drive through during a long road trip. I called into this place for a reservation for 7 @ 9:58 am. After mispronouncing my name twice I spelled it out for the young lady. My wife and kids arrive before me and they were told there was no name for Todd on the list. I arrive within 3 minutes and Giselle at the desk said they do not do reservations. THEN WHY DID THE LADY WHO ANSWERED THE PHONE ASK FOR MY NAME..... TWICE? Giselle then asked if I wanted to be put on the list and it was a 15-20 minute wait. I said sure. Well after seeing several families be seated and several names listed after mine be seated, I asked how much longer as it had already been 37 minutes. She said not much longer. After another 14 minutes I asked Giselle if we can just be seated at the two empty booths? She said sure. We sat for another 14 minutes before we were seated At the 2 empty booths. I stopped by here on my way to Yosemite. This is your standard Denny's. It is located in Oakdale, the gateway to Yosemite. I have been to Denny's that were worse than this place. I had the Zesty Nachos. The nachos were good. The chips were crunchy and fresh. The salsa and meat were good. It was topped with melted cheese and a big scoop of sour cream. It was filling. It tastes pretty good with the green pepper sauce. Service was fast and efficient. It looks like it is well run. read more

This place is the best because all of food is like you're a heaven and if you go there like 100 times then you get to try all the foods and it's so good. I hate to put a bad review but learn from your mistakes. Basically I had ordered a variety of things and they missed one. It was kind of upsetting because it was a long drive to get there and no one wants to drive all the way back. I would have rather waited longer and have my order correct. I love the people here. I often would swing in late at night but unfortunately for me, this place makes me sick to my stomach every single time. I'm not sure what is in there oil, but if you don't have a strong stomach, avoid it. My friends go there all the time. They don't have the issues that I do. While most Denny's provide very consistent service across the board since this is a chain, I wanted to recognize this Denny's in particular. With servers who are absolutely sweethearts they go out of their way to make you feel important even if you're just spending enough to order off the $2/$4/$6/$8 menu. The ONE time I did have an issue here I expressed a concern to the manager (tall guy with dark hair) and he took care of it immediately and with such grace and was so kind and understanding. We went to Denny's after Church, my husband's breakfast was fine, But my Nacho's were Awful!!! They Changed the recipe, now their made with 'Gluten Free Chips' Really??? And the meat was like Red Slop! No Beef at All... It looked, and it was just Dripped on top, there Wasn't any cheese on the bottom layers either! Myself and wife went to our favorite Denny's near a place we frequent regularly. We were seated at a table with no utensils and helped by a waitress we've had before. She took our order/s and asked what we'd like to drink. Upon returning with our drink selections and leaving to do other things we noticed the table we were seated at had no utensils to eat with and had to ask another employee to get us some. The meal delivery was broken up because the waitress said I had to wait for the Seasoned Fries to be done that were included with my burger. My wife got her "sizzling platter" and began eating her meal while I just sat there and looked on, stomach grumbling and all. Finally my meal arrived and the waitress dashed off in a hurry after setting it in front of me. First item I tried were the Fries that I expected to be hot out of the fryer. Nope! The Fries were 'luke warm'/tepid and I like mine scalding hot. I didn't even take a bite from the Burger yet but was disappointed in what I tried, so far. So, at this point I asked another waitress to see the manager to make my complaint known that we were getting sub-par service and food that sat under a warmer, it appeared to me. A guy comes out to our table and asked what I wanted to discuss. While he stood there he had his hands on his hips - which made it look like he was a boss standing over an employee annoyed at being bothered. But I told him in a kind fashion the problems we encountered and I added that my having owned a restaurant in the past - it appeared to me that the entire staff was having issues with communications. As a side note: while waiting for our food a waitress complained to one of the cooks about an order she was about to serve to customers - and the cook looked unhappy to get that complaint. That's why I assumed that there were ongoing issues with cooks and servers today. Long story short the manager kept apologizing but kept standing there with hands on his hips, snickering/laughing and looking like a General who was annoyed with whatever. I got upset at that attitude and I mentioned that I didn't appreciate his standing there like he was, and he suggested that the only other thing he could do was put hands in his pockets. I said that would be better than looking like he did with them on his hips. At which point I told him I had said all I needed to and wanted him to just FIX our issues. He responded with "you are no longer welcome in this Denny's from this day forward and to just leave our food and go!". So, we did. But not before double checking if we owned them anything at the cashier. I didn't want to be accused of theft or any other criminal action. What a way to treat a customer who's upset at the service. Wow!!!!! So, if anyone goes through Oakdale, Ca. and stops at Denny's, beware. They have bad days and defend themselves over it instaed of making it right and giving good customer satisfaction. Worst experience I've ever had at a Dennys almost empty lots of empty clean tables. sat and waited to be seated for 10 min had to leave

It has gotten better since they cleaned up and updated. However service was horrible on a Friday night at 10:30 at night. There was a large group waiting to be seated. The waitress did put the 2 of us at a table that she had to clean. She brought us our drinks. Apologized for how busy it was - still had many empty tables. She said the buses coming in makes it so busy - there had not been a bus in the parking lot. I thin k she was the manager when she came up to us 20 minutes later and said that she could put our order in but would take awhile to get our order. There was at least 10 tickets in front of us so could take an additional 40 minutes. We said we would leave. She said we did not have to pay for our drinks but was so quick to grab them away from us. Did see several groups walk out before we did. They just have poor management and do not plan for a busy night read more

My mom and I have been loyal customers of Dennys the past 5 years. We eat there sometimes ad often as 3xs a week. Friends with the waitress even bring them Christmas goodies and gifts. On Saturday 5/26/18 about 1:30 pm my mom& I went in for some lunch. I ordered the grilled chicken with broccoli. When I was served there were 5 small pieces of broccoli on my plate. I asked about it and the waitress said that wad the "New pre packaged portioned sized" She tried to talk to the chef and he said nothingb he could do. New pre portioned size. I told het no worries I was posting a picture of my plate. About that time the manager FLEW OVER to our table and said he would be paying for our meals and we were to NEVER COME INTO DENNYS EVER AGAIN!! I said because I posted a picture and he said Yes!! Unbelievable!! I thought we lived in a free country and were allowed to take pictures and post whatever we wanted!! Obviously not so in Dennys!!
