First of all...it is Denny's. You can't expect the best of the best. In addition, they just opened. So...here we go. Service was friendly. Everyone there had smiles on their faces and treated you like you were a friend. Our waiter, Greg (?) was awesome! He was honest with questions and was very attentive. Super nice. The manager visited table and seemed very concerned with the happiness of her patrons. The hugest drawback was the serving of meals. There is not one table where the guests got their meals at the same time. Fortunately, it was our has browns that were delayed so we both had other things to eat. Sadly, the table next to us had a delay in one of the kids meals. This is tough when you are 8 and everyone else is eating. A comp of something should have been offered to the lil guy. Our total dining time was over an hour and this was with no lallygagging. Service was just slow. Period. The restaurant was clean and in perfect condition...then again they have been open less than a month. Food was as you would expect at Denny's. Pretty good. I would stick with the breakfast. Overall, good food...reasonable price...service needs improvement. Hopefully they will have the kinks worked out soon! We will be back to check it out! read more

Came here on a Sunday afternoon around 12PM. A hostess was nice enough to open the door for me since I was pushing my Son in the stroller. The hostess left to seat another party and I was standing there hoping that someone would notice me. A lady did notice me and asked for my name and how many people were in my party. It was fairly busy. So much servers running around and very loud atmosphere. Quick tip: if you or your little ones get cold easily, bring a jacket! This Denny's is FREEZING. I believe the AC was on full blast. It took about 5 minutes for our server to come by and ask for drinks. No problem there. But the wait for the food seemed like forever. I understand that it's busy but I saw 2 other parties that came in 10 minutes after us get served their food before us! All we ordered were the appetizer fries and my husband ordered a burger with fries. The wait time for that was about 25-30 minutes. Almost half an hour for burgers and fries? I understand if we ordered steak, fish, omelette, or another dish; but I didn't expect burgers and fries to take that long! When we got our food, we quickly ate and asked a bus boy for the check. My Son was getting fussy and my husband just wanted to eat and leave. The cold air conditioning and the loud mix of people was not a good mix. Overall I think our experience was okay. I definitely believe it could have been better. Food is good but not so good to compensate for the long wait. Oh yeah, lower the air conditioning please. The first time we went was a few days after it opened. Very busy but they still managed to get us a table very fast. Our waitress didn't know how to set up the highchair to become a carseat holder so I had to show her, no biggie. Our food came to us fast but she did my check up on us much. The second time my family and I visited makes us never want to go back again (2/14/2011)! The restaurant was not busy so we were seated. Our waitress took forever to serve us drinks. I saw her writing down our order and repeating it to us. Our drinks came out fast, cool. My daughter (toddler) spilled her applejuice and even though there were 5 servers walking around no one offered to help us clean up the mess. When our waitress came by to refill our drinks she did not seem to notice the huge mess on the table. Keep in mind it was not busy. After a while our food came and we finally asked the waitress if we could get some napkins to clean the spill up, she came back and wiped it off. We were missing a couple of items on our orders. I did not get my fries seasoned and my husband did not get his vegetable soup. Luckily we were not charged for those items. The people next to us were seated and they were also waiting awhile for their drinks and food. I think management needs to re-train their workers. Real talk: Inam was a super cool waitress, always checking on her section and very courteous to her customers. Unfortunately, we were NOT in her section. We were in Annette's. My friends and I got here and were promptly seated at 11:30. Unfortunately, we seem to have been seated at a table which exists in a black hole outside of time and space. It has been two and a half hours. We have seen Annette maaaaaybe three times. The first time was when she came to take our order. Forty five minutes after our order was taken, Annette came back a second time to notify us that they did not have any of the three things my friend ordered, including the iced cappuccino. She did, however, reassure us the food "would be out shortly." The first two of the three plates arrived at 12:30. The third did not arrive until after we flagged down the friendly bus boy taking away our empty plates to find literally any server willing to check on our table. The bus boy managed to find Inam, who found Annette, who finally came to our table the third time to bring my friends...food. The steak skillet was badly burned, over easy eggs cooked to plastic perfection, indistinguishable veggies glued to the skillet in a sea of black tar. Twenty minutes after the decision that this was quite frankly some serious bull and horse whiz, bus boy and THANK GAHD INAM finally took pity on the poor souls still sitting at 1pm in the Pit of Despair and called in The Manager, our next nameless hero of this tale. Not even ten minutes later we had water, tea, a brand new perfect skillet, soda, and the skillet removed from our bill with profuse apology. 6 minutes after that, Annette came to ahem "check on the table" (saveherass) and blame the chef for the food (whichshedidntcheck). We did not see her again. Our service improved dramatically once it was The Manager and THANK GAHD INAM came to continually check on us and save the day. The time is now 1:35pm. We have finally made it out alive from the Grunge Den. We left a tip for Inam (THANKS INAM!) Now my friend is full, and I am hungry for lunch. read more

2 stars for friendly service and pretty decent food. Went for a late lunch on a Sunday, arrived around 2pm. Busy but there were several open tables and booths in sight. My husband and daughter waited for seats while I took my other 2 children to the bathroom. When we came out, my husband still hadn't been seated. There was apparently some confusion as the people who came in after were seated first because they thought they were with us. No biggie, we can wait. Within 5 more minutes we were seated. We were not approached for at least 10 minutes or so by anyone. Finally when someone approached she offered us something to drink while we waited for our server. Our drinks arrived while we were ordering. Ordering went smoothly, server was knowledgeable and helped us where needed. We finally got our food a little after 3pm. She brought us everything and then gave us our bill before we had even really begun eating. Our bill Was the fastest thing we got our whole visit. Our server came and checked on us several times, always smiling and asking if we needed anything. With 3 younger kids I'd not likely come here again. Denny's is Denny's you kind of expect that it is more of a diner style place of convenience to grab a quick bite that isn't fast food. With that said, what you should be able to expect at a diner is fast, decent service and hot food which is 9 times out of 10 not the case with this location. I have lived in Kapolei since this Denny's opened so we have been here quite a few times and you never really know how the experience is going to go. So for a review I would say to expect slow service regardless of how slow they may be. With regard to the food, if your server is slow it is also very likely that the food will Sit back there and by the time you get it it will be lukewarm to cold. My most recent experience was (Saturday) 4/15 at 3:30 in the afternoon. It was not busy, in fact only the right side of the restaurant was open for seating because it was so slow. There was a total of 5 tables occupied including ours. First wait was to have our order taken, this took 20 minutes. She was very nice and took drink and food order and then left. Assumption was she would be back with the drinks. Waited for about 17 minutes this time then she comes with the drinks, our drink order was easy, water, coffee, soda. So now I ask is everything ok? Everything seems super slow today. She said yeah, everyone called in today. I completely understand being short staffed but when you have 5 tables and 2 servers that is adequate staffing to provide decent service to those 5 tables. After my comment everything seemed to go better and the food did come fairly quickly and the food was hot. We did spend longer than we probably needed to just to have a late lunch but it ended ok. Kunia location does have better, faster service. What surprised me this day or any day is that the manager isn't out checking on things, perhaps jumping in to assist to ensure customers are being served in a timely manner. All in all I feel that this location has the potential to be decent with more management involvement and awareness. read more

Rude service. I came with my family for a quick breakfast before we started our fun filled day and I regret it. We came sat down and waited over 30 mins for JUST water. I even ask the manager on duty if we could have some water after about 20 mins of waiting and she very rudely told me they'll get to it when they have time. I had to tell her that the waitress took our water order 20 mins ago! she then went to the back and starting yelling at the waitress like it was the waitresses fault they all had to many tables to wait on. Smh. The food took even longer. It got to the point where I told my boyfriend if the food doesn't come in 20 mins we were leaving. Mind you we already been seated for almost 2 hours. There are 4 Denny's in Oahu (where this Kapolei one is one of the 4). I've tried all of them. And my most favorite to give perfect 5/5 is this Kapolei one & the one in Waipahu. Reasons: 1) Lots of parking space available. 2) Service at an acceptable pace (though encourage to do faster service). Meanwhile foods, to me all 4 Denny's of Oahu is good. I'm from the Mainland & I had the Denny's over there. The Denny's in the Mainland is not that good compared to the ones in Oahu; that I know for sure. At least you guys really know how to make your burgers. Good soups too. And the steaks are exceptional. what I really like most is receiving them discount coupons thru the mail. Really helps poor students like me to afford to enjoy some dining at a restaurant (instead of lower quality fast food). All in all I like all 4 Denny's of Oahu. But my most favorite is the Kapolei one b/c of the excess parking space available. Keep up the good work & keep it up with them discount coupons!!! Good job! read more

No joke, this is the ONLY Denny's that I go to for diner fare. I've tried the one in Kunia and the one in Waikiki, but this has been the best of them so far. Granted, it's still DENNY'S so you can't be expecting a 5 star restaurant, and they've had their bad moments, but I still remain loyal. I've found that MOST (and I stress that it's MOST) of the employees are insanely nice and helpful. It's still a cheap little food stop, so you're inevitably bound to run into one of those grouchy old ladies that should no longer be in food service and hates her life and therefore makes your presence seem like the biggest inconvenience. If you're lucky enough to get one of the younger servers, they are usually the super sweet and ever so helpful staff that you'd want. The food is nothing to sneeze at, but it's also pretty effing cheap for the amount of food you get for a state that charges so much more for food because of shipping costs. Luckily, it's cheaper than IHOP, but I digress, since their selection, to me, is less vast than that of IHOP. Anyway, the wait can get a little long from time to time, but it's still usually miniscule compared to the wait at IHOP. Wow - this Denny's really needs a better cover photo. Ew! That said, this is a solid option for after-hours dining and breakfast. We really enjoy the selection on the menu, which includes a few borderline healthy options which remind me of IHOP. But hey, I've been popping in and out of Denny's for a few decades now and I really appreciate the expansion beyond the ol' Grand Slam. Haven't had any issues with the food or service, but one let down here is definitely the coffee. It simply isn't good and that is a rarity on the island. It tastes like it was brewed with a double filter, because it tastes a lot like paper. I've tried a few different strategies with sweeteners, creams, etc., and nothing washes away the taste. It's too bad, because the coffee spends the most time with you during your visit. It's a bummer when you're still trying to get the taste out even after you walk out the door. Came in for lunch/brunch in a good mood, and left irritated and in a bad mood. Our server was Karen, if you get her ask for a new server. Having worked as a server I know how it goes, but this lady was terrible. First it took 10+ minutes to get waters. Second, my water sat empty for pretty much the entire time I was there, and only upon asking for the check did she ask if I wanted a refill. C'mon, Karen, that's waiting tables 101, refill your patrons drinks. Third, after dropping off our food, never once did she check with us to make sure we were okay. Hey, Karen, I'm still waiting for my goddamn pancakes. I ordered pancakes, never got them, but you still charged me for them, maybe if you checked in with us you would have known. I still left you 15%, even though I should have stiffed you. Hopefully you'll read this and get your shit together, or find a new profession, because after our encounter today, it doesn't seem like this job suits your skills very well. Also, don't try to rush people through their orders when you can't keep up. My family and I decided to eat breakfast here before heading somewhere else that we had to be. Right off the bat I noticed that it seemed pretty busy but I was still optimistic. While we were waiting to be seated I noticed that water was dripping from the ceiling at the counter where you pay for your meal into two bus boy containers that were sitting on two chairs. The containers had paper towels in them to absorb the water I'm assuming, however it wasn't doing a very good job since there was water all over the floor. Once we were seated, it took what seemed like 10 minutes before our waitress came to take our order. We ordered our food and received our drinks pretty quickly however our waitress either fill mine and my sons glasses with too much milk or she spilled some on her serving tray because when she sat our glasses down on the table their was milk on the table. While we were waiting for our food I couldn't help but notice how dirty the restaurant was. I'll start off by saying that the carpet smelled like it hadn't been cleaned in a long time, the light fixture above our table had a dried liquid stain on the inside of the fixture, the ceiling was caked with dust around the vents, their was crayon drawings on the wall beside us, and their were ants crawling around on our table. It took about 20 minutes to get our food which I didn't think was too bad, except my eggs were over cooked and the hash browns were under cooked. Got served by Lisa...she was pretty prompt & food was tasty. With the volume & considering its New Year's Day it was really good service..I'd rate this 4.9 stars if I could. Only issue was I ordered a side that was almost as expensive as a full plate with what I wanted & more. Dennys, what is not to love. I came in on a Tuesday night and OMG.. ..so many kids. Kids eat free Tuesday was what we were walking into. Hesitant about entering I was craving their red velvet puppies, also for their 2,4,6,8 menu. You can't beat and the warm aloha you get when entering the store. I feel like walking into my family's home when I come here. I came here when they first opened up and my my my.. ....what a turn around. So much improvement and they have a lot of new faces. It must mean, the management means business. I even see the manager back their cooking and carrying trays. I had the red velvet puppies, a country fried steak skillet and a grand slam slugger that came with two drinks, on the value menu. Even though there was a bit of a wait, the communication is what I really liked from our host and our server Ashley. She still smiled even when she had dirty plates in her hand, and acknowledge her tables on her way back. The food arrived hot and even though it was a bit noisy. I liked watching the manager cooking and managing her crew from the kitchen. She even greeted people she knew from the kitchen. Hats off to that manager and crew. With the bad reviews I see on here, I just thought I'd share my great experience. I will be returning with high expectations. read more

Before, this one restaurant laughably caused a little bit of strife in our marriage. We really don't go out to breakfast that often, but my husband has made this place his go-to when the opportunity arises because there are a lot of options, but primarily because the price was right. Notice I wrote WAS. Dude, they totally jacked their prices!!! Everything is $10+ 》A couple other reasons that make me sad-mad: As soon as we sat down my whole family commented on the temperature (it felt about 50°). Our waitress had no concern whatsoever, she responded with "its kinda nice for those of us who are working here because we run around so much." Kinda not nice for the customer to hear. We all ate with chicken skin the entie time... definitely hampers the experience. It's tough to come here for breakfast when you don't eat eggs... everything has eggs. I ALWAYS sub out eggs for hasbrowns. Sometimes, I've even had my own special meal created just for me (above and beyond waitressing, which I totally appreciate). When I asked today, I received cold "no." Eggs are more expensive than hasbrowns... My son asked to have the channel changed because they had fox news running and lots of coverage that was very inappropriate for kids. The waitress didn't do anything, so we asked again, then an assistant manager came out to talk to us, and although she was sweet, she told us the channel couldn't be changed. Another (even sweeter) manager-type lady came out and told us the same thing. I really have a hard time with rules that have zero logic. If a family is in your restaurant (as well as many other children) and the child is near tears because the news is so graphic & you tell me it cant be turned off... that's an issue that cannot be over looked. About 20 minutes later, the t.v. was finally turned off. Scrambled eggs are not real eggs Coffee totally empty before she came around with a refill. We have eaten here a few times when we are in the area -- it's always busy during the times we've been there - on weekends around 10-noon. Sometimes you have to wait for a table. The service is great, the restaurant is very clean. The food here seems to be very well-prepared -- it's presented nicely and tastes great. Although a very small Denny's, we were seated promptly. The place was busy, but within 5 minutes or so the waiter asked for our drink order. The drinks came pretty fast as one was a shake. The order however did take a long time. I excepted it would come fast because I ordered an egg breakfast and my partner ordered a salad and nachos. The nachos came out first. Then after about 30 minutes of waiting our food came. Waiter was nice although never asked if we wanted refills on our drinks. Over-all the experience was ok for a "fast food" like restaurant. The last comment I would add is for the waitresses and waiters to keep a little quieter while yelling at one another in the kitchen, as some of the seats are close and you can hear everything as we did. read more

The service was not very good and the pancakes were a little sour. The waitress we had was pretty impatient and did not collect plates that were done even when we had no room, so we just stacked the new plates on the old. The wait time was long but it only became an issue when we got the wrong order and had to wait further. Overall was not that great of an experience but perhaps it was just bad timing, it was busy. We came here for a late dinner. There was lots of parking. We know Denny's is a great place to have breakfast, but since it was late, we did not order breakfast food. We ordered salmon and it was very dry. 2stars just for the salmon, otherwise for breakfast food, I'd give more stars. Service was pretty good and the toast and hash brown was excellent. I really come here at odd times... 1 and 5 in the morning. It's great that they're open 24. Why is anyone ever up this late? I'll let your creative minds answer that. It's never that crowded when I come here even in the normal day time hours. Everyone here is local, from the hostess to the cook. I swear once the hostess was our waiter and our cook. Great guy, can't remember his name. The staff is friendly, if you let them be. I don't usually come here for dinner, just really early breakfast or lunch. So i've never gotten anything that wasn't pancakes, eggs sausage and hash browns or sandwiches. All which I do favor over. I sometimes add milkshakes because milkshakes are awesome! I do believe this is the best Denny's I have been to in a while. I have been to quite a few in my day. I came at about 8pm Tuesday and the staff are so lovely. My food came out right away and it was pretty busy. I had the salmon dinner and it was delectable. Very nice and moist. My server was Donovan and he remembered everything without writing anything down. He made me feel like family. Thank you to the manager Kapu for helping me walk to my car. I guess the staff working at the time you go to this location matters a great deal. Been there 3 times in the past 2 months and have been served efectively and graciously. Once time at lunch and twice at Breakfast. Service was speedy and the food we ordered was perfect. No matter what I would much rather eat @ Denny's than IHOP. Once I ordered a short stack from there and the pancakes were so small that I called the Manager over to complain. did not phase this guy at all that I was complaining. Besides the flapjacks cost $7.00. I's rather eat the $4.00 All You Can Eat deal @ Denny's. read more
