Good food and good people. We really enjoy the ribs and I will occasionally sneak over there and grab brisket sandwich for lunch. Huge portions at a fair price. Their sauce, although vinegar based, is actually pretty dang good. My office is across the interstate and whenever people visit this is where I send them to eat. read more

Yesterday, I stopped into Dempsey's BBQ looking for a lunch food donation for my team of 19 cyclists riding our bikes across the country this summer to raise funds for the Ulman Cancer Fund helping young adults with cancer. Tim, the owner, and the entire staff were beyond generous and fed our whole team amazing pulled pork and beef brisket sandwiches for free. My family and I have been meeting at Dempsey's - and the restaurant under the previous owner - for years. It is a perfect place to meet when half live in KC and the others in COMO. Management is very gracious in allowing us to camp out and chat for a couple hours. Everyone in the group is always pleased with the food. This place gets 3 stars, because the food was 4 1/2 stars, and the service was 1/2 star at most. Stopped in for Father's day dinner on the way back from visiting family in St. Louis. Walked in about 6:45, there were a few empty tables and were told to sit anywhere. Grabbed a table ...and waited. Waited probably 15 minutes without acknowledgement from a server, and no menus - group that walked in behind us also was ignored. Finally went up to the counter and asked, they said someone would be with us shortly ... barely an apology. Finally, after about 3 or 4 more menus, the waitress comes out, apologizes a little, gives us menus, takes our drink orders, and disappears. 5 minutes or so more pass, and she reappears to take our order, and tells us they're out of ice, and drinks will be a couple more minutes. We order, and finally, after another 5 minutes, we get drinks, and about 10 minutes after that, food! Glorious food! The good news is, the BBQ was delicious. Brisket was meaty and tender, ribs were flavorful and falling off the bone. Mac and cheese was tasty. Beans were average - Bush's with some other stuff tossed in. Texas toast was yummy. Definitely would eat again. Unfortunately, had to wait roughly another 15 minutes from when we finished eating before finally giving up and going and asking for the check at the counter (by this time the place was clearing out) so that we could leave. Hoping it was just a fluke, so we have a good place to stop on the drive, but it may be a while before we try it again. read more

We weren't impressed, but this review isn't about the quality of the food or table service. It's about attitude. As usual, post - meal, we gave our opinion to the person in charge. We didn't catch his name but, from the start, the owner/manager was very defensive, saying that our opinions were wrong and going so far as to throw our review card on the floor. In 70K miles of traveling, through 48 states & 9 provinces, we've eaten a lot of grub, but have NEVER been treated so shabbily. Iffey food/service may get a 2nd chance, but unprofessionalism & rudeness doesn't. TravelingbyCarr GandR calls it, for Dempsey's owner/manager, a much - deserved zero stars. read more

When you're driving through the state on HWY 70 an all you can see or find on your phone are fast food places, this was the perfect solution. Like others have said, they found it based on reviews, so I'm adding one more. Brisket sandwich wasn't too fatty. Chicken breast was thin and juicy with a nice seasoning on it.. Mild BBQ sauce had a fruity, sweet taste to it that was perfect and not odd in the least. Fries were thin and had a lot of flavor. Even the smell of this place wasn't your typical overwhelming wood smoke scent, but was even better. We called ahead and got our orders for the road and they were very accommodating. Very good BBQ!! Very clean restaurant and the waitress and owner were really nice. My husband and I both had the brisket sandwich with Cole slaw and fries. The coleslaw is amazing! Our family of 5 decided to stop in and try the BBQ since we won a gift card. After waiting 15 minutes a waitress took our drink order and disappeared. She returned with our drinks after another 20 minute wait. We went ahead and ordered our food, which was another 30 minutes until it arrived. Out of a half slab of ribs and double cheese burger and 2 brisket sandwiches the food was okay. The brisket was salty and the ribs like shoe leather. My son said the cheese burger was great. I won't go out of my way to eat here, but if I am in the area I may try again to see if it was just a bad night. read more
