Stopped in today for a late lunch early dinner. They have specials, homemade pies and cheesecake that looked delicious. Had the chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes. The steak was crisp and done perfectly. The mashed potatoes were real not instant and were very good. All was covered in an ample amount of white gravy that was also delicious. My wife had the stir fry and said it was very good with large shrimp in it. Portions were good and delicious. This place was a definite will try again. The special by the way was prime rib. Has some of the best burgers I've ever tasted but the service was kinda slow and the areA in the store is clean.

The food is delicious and the staff are excellent! I went there with a friend from school to catch up. We had not seen each other since 1991. I ordered the fried catfish dinner. and he ordered an omelet. The servings were large so we took some food with us. We had a good visit until it was their closing time at 8pm but the staff were very sweet and did not hurry us to leave. read more

I came here with my son for his last meal with me before leaving him at college. I wanted some homestyle cooking, and this place delivered. Being a Texas girl, I got the chicken fried steak & it was one of the best I've had; tender and the breading was perfect as well as the white gravy! The mashed potatoes and corn were fresh, and tasted great. My son got the Philly cheesesteak and said it was pretty good. Our waitress was very kind and friendly. All in all, a great place to get a home cooked meal when your away from home. Family atomospehre, friendly and fast service. And, the homemade pies are delicious! Stopped off to try their Breakfast based off of the fairly positive reviews on Zamato. First off, I had to seat myself while the waitress finished up a tweet. She was friendly though and promptly brought my menu and coffee. Then it was on to talking about rambunctious children with the other waitress. Simple order for me. Bacon and eggs. The food came out super fast. Within 5 minutes. The food was hot and amazingly delicious. Two thick slices of perfectly toasted thick rye bread along side a mound of golden hashbrowns, two over easy eggs, and three slices of bacon. I believe the bacon had been pre made and kept warm but not for long and wasn't bad at all. I wasn't expecting much based off of outer appearance but walked away extremely satisfied. Good food and friendly fast service. I'll be at Bloomfield's Family Restaurant for breakfast tomorrow. Part 2. (Next Morning) Again, Friendly service. Extremely friendly this morning. Prompt attention to coffee. In fact, I rarely got to a half cup before getting a warm up. Usually the warm up consisted of a splash she was so good. Country Fried Steak and Eggs this time. Paired again with 2 slices of that perfectly toasted rye and the same delicious hashbrowns. The chicken fried steak was a bit small and I doubt homemade but it was decent. I'm not sorry I ordered it. Beware of add-ons to your bill. I used to dine here occasionally with my family, but on more than one occasion extra charges were added to our credit card after we'd reviewed the bill. The "mistake" was eventually corrected, but this is apparently a pattern with unsuspecting senior citizen diners in particular. Very good food served quickly and with a good attitude. Clientele are not the most diverse group of people you'd ever want to interact with and observe but are a good sampling of rural Missouri and what has made the Show Me state a red state. Trying to find a non chain restaurant in Marshall MO was a little more difficult than I thought. But happened to stumble on Bloomfields Family Restaurant right off Highway 65. Looked harmless enough, so we went in. the first thing I noticed is that there must not be a no smoking ordinance in Marshall, the reek of smoke enveloped us right away, but did not see anyone who was blazed up while we were there.. Being about 130 pm, the lunch menu had several choices, most of them salads or sandwiches..I immediately became excited when I saw they had a Monte Christo sandwich...not since the Harvey House closed in Union station have I experienced one of these. Unfortunately mine arrived, without being coated with batter and deep fried, and without the raspberry dipping sauce. Probably better for my waist line but not for the taste buds.....and which one do you think will win out, the taste buds of course. The turkey and ham inside were of generous portion, and thick cut---not shaved deli meat. The bread had been grilled and the cheese melted nicely into the meat, but I was still expecting the deepfried version, so I was mildly disappointed. The open faced roast beef was plentyful and tender with generic gravy drizzled overtop. Good, but nothing really to brag about. Still beats a McDonalds burger, for about the same price. Side salads and fries accompanied both. Overall, for a small one of a kind diner in a small town, this would still be the place to stop. I've never changed my mind about a restaurant so many times. First impression... not good. French Onion Soup came - looked like it came from a can with a few croutons and shredded mozzarella cheese thrown in - and it was lukewarm. At least they did warm it up for me. But when the fried chicken came - they gained three stars. Excellent. The green beans - back down a star. But then they asked if we wanted FREE dessert! A choice of pudding or ice cream. After the culinary roller coaster I land on a three star. But if you need a restaurant in Marshall for a large group - this is your place. read more

We had high hopes when we arrived as it was fairly busy and the cakes on display looked wonderful. Two in the party got omelets which neither ate more than half... They looked good, but were dry, probably overcooked. Hash browns and pancake were good tho. We got the Philly. It was ok, but not much flavor. The fries (which we ordered extra crispy) were cold and limp. We rarely return anything but asked them to replace the fries, again stressing extra crispy. They came back hot but still barely done. The waitress was friendly and efficient but overall a very disappointing experience! This is my second time eating here. We ate there yesterday .We usually go in as a big group. We order two fried catfish with two sides (fries and mash potatoes with brown gravy) and French toast to go. We only got the first and 2 French toast yet they still charged us for full price. This is ridiculous. And the desert I had was chocolate, which had a really bad after taste . I told our waiter we did not like this and sent it back. He still charged us for it. read more

I travel to Marshall for work on a semi-regular basis. As such I like to find the local places and that is all there is here other than a Pizza Hut and an Appleby's (I won't eat at Appleby's even if it is free). I have eaten here at Bloomfield's several times for breakfast and it is very reliable. Service is good and they cook good breakfast foods. I have had eggs several ways, omelets, steak and eggs, etc. Hash browns are good. Coffee is hot and good. I ate here the other night for dinner and it wasn't so good. I got the rib-eye and it was cooked as I ordered it which was a plus. However, it was a not too good piece of meat. Lots of fat and gristle. Hadn't been seasoned too well. Just a very weak piece of meat - I wasn't expecting Ruth's Chris or anything I knew where I was. My fellow diner from Texas got the chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, and gravy. As soon as it came out with a dark brown gravy he knew he had ordered the wrong thing. It didn't taste bad but chicken fried steak comes with white cream gravy! Not brown beef gravy. I will go back but will most likely stick to breakfast and burgers. From another review on here I will probably take a chance on the fried chicken. read more

We visited this restaurant for the first time on Friday, May 23rd. We had dinner and my husband and I were completely satisfied with the meal for a restaurant in a small town. He had sirloin with shrimp and I had the prime rib. My prime rib had more fat than expected but the flavor was wonderful. They served the best horseradish sauce I have had except for my own. The prices were very reasonable. The bonus was the price of their cocktails. As for the smoke, none was detected. Appears they have improved on the complaint expressed in 2012. We went back the next morning for breakfast. Again, no complaints. The staff was very friendly and courteous. Before you shy away, remember you are in a small town. Would we go back? Most certainly! Once, we got past the fact that we got lost in the shuffle of getting served. It was actually pretty good and the servers were friendly. I had the turkey melt with fries, delicious and my mate had a BLT. Both good. I really felt bad about getting upset we weren't attended to quickly. read more

Not sure where the cooks get their training. I didn't realize that getting 2 eggs over easy, crispy hash browns and crispy bacon were that difficult. We go from one extreme to the other....over medium eggs and RAW bacon. Glad this isn't my hometown restaurant! The hostess didn't even ask us how everything was. The only positive experience from this restaurant was our waitress, she was great. The owners need to take a little more pride in what could be a fantastic restaurant! read more

The service is terrible! They do not come to the table often enough to make sure we have everything we need, I have to get up and ask. We didn't have butter at the table or silverware I had to take from another table. And left dirty dishes on table until after our main course was brought to the table! I've eaten here about 100 times. Not by choice, but because until recently there were few other options in Marshall. Staff is friendly, service is quick and efficient, but the food isn't very good, to my taste, except for breakfast stuff. Biggest menu in Marshall, but that counts for little if you don't care for the taste. And you have to run the gauntlet upon entering, past the smoking room. The whole place smells like smoke, at least if you are a non-smoker. I'd give it another star if they just got rid of the smoke. Well, maybe. read more
