We live in Kansas City and have traveled past there many times. Because it is about halfway between our destinations, we decided to give it a try. After our first visit, we were hooked. Everytime we travel that way, it is on our stop in list and we have never been disappointed. The service is excellent, the food is great, and the atmosphere is very comfortable. Several times we were running late and they always stayed open until we got there. We have ate here twice traveling from KC to Jefferson City. Decided to give it a try based on reviews. We weren't disappointed! The hamburgers are very good with homemade paddies fresh off the grill! What a perfect spot for breakfast! We were working our way (slowly) back home to KC from St. Charles after bicycling the Katy trail and needed a spot for breakfast. We happened across this divey-looking local eatery and decided to stop. The food and service were both excellent and we met the owner who quickly identified us as non-locals. What a hoot! Finally stopped here for lunch after years of driving by and always seeing a full parking lot!! It is a nice family restaurant with friendly employees. I tried the Sunday buffet with fried chicken and ham and it reminded me of mom's dinners. Hubby had a bacon cheeseburger that was good size and very fresh. We would definitely return. First of all ignore the bad review of this place. Maybe the lady was having a bad day or even a bad decade. A buddy and I stopped in on our way back from the Lake of the Ozarks. It was definitely a wise choice. We had the luncheon special of BBQ ham steak, scalloped potatoes and corn. The ham steak was the best I ever had. You didn't need a knife to cut the meat; you could easily slice through it with your fork. However the ham wasn't the best part of the meal. The freakin scalloped potatoes were, by far, the best I ever had (my friend totally agree)! And, unbelievably, this plate of food was only $5.99 ( without a drink). I didn't try the pie. However I'll be going to the LOZ within the next month and looking forward to trying a slice of homemade pie. This is a cafe in a small town. Don't expect to be greeted be friendly maitre d' and/or have the waitresses fawn all over you. Small town cafes don't operate like that. But if you like good down to earth comfort food at reasonable prices make this a priority stop. read more

I'm pretty sure we had the worst waitress in the whole world. The food was okay, although the sides are pretty small for the al a carte pricing. They are well-known for their homemade pies, but I was disappointed that my chocolate meringue pie was runny from being refrigerated for probably a day or two. We regularly pass this place on our way to the Lake of Ozarks and decided to try it out for Sunday breakfast on our way home. It was around 10am and the restaurant was about half full. They have a breakfast buffet option, which appeared to be the choice of most of the people when we arrived. We ordered off the menu, a couple omelets, French toast and hash browns. We noted that at least a dozen tables were turned while we waiting all eating the buffet. After 45min of waiting for our order the server said ours was next up. We ended up waiting just short of an hour for our food and they forgot part of the order. The food was ok and the server was nice, but the long wait was not worth it. We won't be stopping here again. The kitchen clearly didn't balance filling orders and keeping the buffet full very well. read more

Fantastic, tasty food, with a wide variety of menu items for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. They have several specials during the week. The staff and management are very friendly and attentive. Hours very from week days to weekends. Check out the hours for a buffet (one is on Sunday morning for breakfast, and lunch), and ask about the Huge Cinnamon Rolls!
