We needed a quick lunch place to eat lunch while road tripping across Missouri. The ambiance is definitely cozy diner (it was a bit chilly, bring a sweater). The service was prompt and friendly. The food was delicious and exactly what we were looking for. My husband said the Rueben was good and my grandson loved his burger and fries. My burger was also delicious! The food was out standing. I haven't been to real Dinner in over 50 years. Everything you could possible want, made by mom. My son had the omelet and most of the breakfast offerings. Loved it all. I had liver and onions. That were so so good. We got brain sandwiches to go. Along with burgers and french fries and fried mushrooms . Looking forward to Monday for the fried Chicken. Ate here because a local said it is a great local eatery and served breakfast all day. Restaurant was large. We were sat next to the unusable door with a rolling cart that is placed in front of it and observed the cart was in great need of dusting (gross). We chose a hamburger with bacon/cheese, and the Ruben. The hamburger was dry and overcooked and I observed my hubby choke on his bite of hamburger. I then suggested we eat my Ruben instead, so we applied the dressing, which was delivered to us on the side, to the sandwich and tried to ignore the very soggy bottom piece of bread. We did not enjoy the fries or onion rings. They were not flavorful and no salt was going to help. We went on to try to enjoy the soup of the day, baked potato soup, but the texture and the outright flavorless soup was in great need of crackers and pepper. We were disappointed and felt we just wasted a lot of money as we left a good portion of our lunch for the trash. Maybe we should have gone with eating breakfast instead as they serve it all day. Service was great at first. Then we didn't get water refilled and no check up if we needed anything. Waited. Waited. And when the server finally reappeared we were told to go directly to the register to pay. read more

I'm not one who eats out often because I find there aren't many places that have really good food when I can cook at home, in a clean environment and it taste better. (Hence the time frames) With that said, I've ate here a few times. Here's what I experienced: 2021- I ate here for the 1st time with co-workers for Boss's day. The food was really good, the staff was nice, waitresses were attentive, and bathroom was clean. 2023 - Remembering my experience with my coworkers, I ordered breakfast for pickup. The House Skillet literally had no seasoning and not much taste. It ended up in the garbage. The pancakes were mediocre. 2025 - I decided to give this diner another try, thinking the last time may have been a fluke. Nope. The House Skillet literally did not have a speck of seasoning on it. (I looked for it!) My food tasted greasy. I ordered my eggs over medium - the yolk was hard cooked. The bacon was 80% fat. The sausage was very greasy. I smashed it up, squeezed out the grease and added it to my biscuit and gravy, which was the better tasting item of my order. Once again the rest of my order ended up in the garbage. My two biscuits and gravy (what they call a half order) was the same price as a whole order. Oh - and the girl who rang up my order and took my payment, stared up at the TV on the wall behind the register the entire time. I had asked her what flavors of pies did they have today as I looked at the pie case. (her opportunity to up-sale) She never said one word to me. Extremely poor customer service. read more

Stopped in on our way from KC to St. Louis for lunch - saw that the parking lot had quite a few people even as we drove up the ramp. That is always a good sign. Seeing the homemade pies under the glass at the counter made my wife smile but she ended up too full to have one without a guilty conscience. She had the grilled catfish and was pleasantly surprised by the mild flavor and good preparation. Baked potato and salad with blue cheese also great. According to my uncle "the corned beef hash tasted as expected and had a generous amount of fixins. My meal was the Cinnamon French Toast combo. The bacon had a nice smoked flavor and was crispy. First off this is my first review of the new 87 diner. I ate once several months ago and recently. I will say was not impressed the first time. Looking for a throw back and old school diner? This is it! Remember: this is diner food, so expect just that. It did loose a star rating because of the steak fries. The diners I was with said the fries were very bland and tasteless. However, the party melt on rye was a major knock out, fried okra for the win, and I recommend the 1/2 serving of the roast beef (piled and tender on a bed of mash potatoes and a slice of bread and drowned in gravy---yum yum). Bacon double cheeseburger was juicy and thick. The fish was also a favorite at my table. Tender and delicious. The chicken strips seem like the kinda you can snag at a ball game, though. However, I don't think a lot of it was homemade. Regardless, not a bad place. And, doesn't seem like a big deal to some----they do have a smoking section (I'm a smoker but, I have children----I try my best to avoid them exposure). The staff were nice and friendly. 87 Diner is a solid diner located just off Highway 70 outside of Boonville. I recently stopped in for lunch on my way to Kansas City and was actually quite surprised with the food. The 87 Diner is located just off Highway 70 & 87 in a basic no frills building. Once inside I quickly discovered that there was a Smoking and Non-Smoking section, only divided by a small wall. However I have to admit that I really didn't notice any smoke smell while seated in the non-smoking section. Service here was fast and friendly, after placing our order the food arrived no more than 10 minutes later. I went with the Open Face Roast Beef Sandwich, which was served with mashed potatoes, roast beef and smothered in gravy. It was quite delicious and the gravy wasn't overly salty, it seemed just right. Another entrée ordered was the Chicken Fried Steak which I heard was equally as tasty, I might have to give that a try next time I am in the area. The menu itself was large, and you could even order breakfast all day. Prices were very reasonable too. Overall this was a solid choice and I can say that I will return on my next visit through Boonville. read more

Talk about an old school diner with some great food. We went here on a Saturday for some breakfast. The diner was packed but we were able to find a seat in the non-smoking section. The diner is very colorful and has several unique wreaths and decorations hanging all over. Their menu is extremely colorful and offers some very unique dishes as well as the down home food that you would expect. When we went we all got "the mess". Which is biscuits, eggs, and sausage all covered in gravy. This is quite a breakfast. The flavor is extremely good and for the price it is an unbelievable deal. They have extremely courteous wait staff that are checking on you at the right times during your dining experience. The prices are extremely fair for what you get as well. Also for such a small diner they do have some very good coffee. The only thing for me that is holding this back from a 5 star review is that they still have a smoking section. I am sure with the crowd and politics that are present in the area they have to maintain a smoking section but it isn't as necessary anymore. Once the smoking section goes away it will be 5 stars across the board for me. read more

Husband ordered "The Mess" - eggs, hasbrowns, your choice of ham / bacon / sausage, served over biscuits and smothered in gravy. He inhaled it with gusto. I had eggs scrambled with cheese, a breaded pork tenderloin, and substituted a biscuit with gravy in place of toast (99 cent up charge). Everything was fresh and homemade, even the tenderloin was hand breaded. It was delicious! The prices were very fair. The staff were friendly and attentive. As noted, the diner is in an industrial style metal building, but inside it's clean with lots of cheery decorations. We will be back, for certain. read more

This place is a diner, pure and simple. But, oh, the food is awesome diner food. My husband and I both had the Open Faced Roast Beef. I had the half portion and it was plenty of food. Roast beef was nicely shredded and the gravy was rich but not salty. I managed to stop and leave room for dessert. The dessert board is full of choices and the menu says they will have whatever the cook feels like making. I had the peach cobbler with ice cream and it was wonderful! My husband had the lemon meringue pie which I did not get a bite of to my disappointment. The ambiance was diner, industrial diner if you want. The clientele were mostly locals.
