I had a pulled pork sandwich, the pork was smokey and juicy, but it was served on a plain cold bun. So I just ate the meat, their sauces are good. The sandwich was served with fries that were not freshly made, they were lukewarm and tasted like the oil they were fried in was stale. So this hole in the wall place with nothing fancy going for it has such delicious BBQ but just about everybody and all their friends including ten cousins showed up at once flooding the poor server who took it in stride. Seat yourselves and soon enough she came with menus and drink requests. Of course we waited about twenty minutes before getting our food but that was understandable as the entire place was filled with customers at once. Good time to check emails and have convos. We both got the Pork and brisket sandwiches, mine with green beans vs. his with the best fries known to me. They were definitely double fried and then lightly salted. Perfect fries. Get the fries, don't try to be healthy, look you're at a BBQ joint. He offered A fry so I snatched three of them. Then I looked up after gobbling them down and he had eaten all of them. This is a story of the good the okay and the not so good. Let's start with the good. The smell is everything you love about bbq and smoky foods. Mouth watering smell. The place looks like a bbq place should look wood, metal pretty solid. One server (not ours) was all over the place she was attentive and good at her job. The sandwiches are good sized and they don't skimp on the meat. The okay: the flavor of the meat is smoky and soft I ordered the combo (brisket and pulled pork) my wife ordered the three little piggies (pulled pork, bacon and ham). Fries and baked beans. Their hot sauce is not hot for me, but good flavor. The price is reasonable. The not so good: our server disappeared after she brought our drinks and took out order (the good server got our refills). Our server was nice just not very attentive to us. The baked beans were led by the liquid smoke in the beans too a fault. I ate some of them hoping it would maybe come around but it never did get there for me. I probably shouldn't say this but I expected better and have had better from chain restaurants I am unsure as the status of this place but it was t remarkable. I wanted it to be. Well we just made our semi annual stop at Dempsey's BBQ in Concordia, MO Wednesday evening. The ribs were amazing. So tender and so big. I don't remember any other restaurant having ribs this size. They are maybe the best ribs I have ever eaten in a restaurant. If you are traveling through Missouri, you need to stop at Dempsey's. I always get the half slab. Price was also very reasonable. We got the rib and brisket special and the meat was tasty but a smidge dry. We came to lunch, though, about 2:30 pm and were really the only folks here and cooking for small numbers at off times is tough, so no complaints. Mild BBQ sauce was good. My sister and I wanted bbq and we found this little place and seen the reviews and wanted to try it out. As soon as we walked in our waiter (Katia, i think that's her name) was right away asking us how we doing and if we need anything, and took our drinks and menu ASAP. Our waiter is amazing, she made sure we felt safe and welcomed and everything. She told us about the Onion Pettles and by far they were amazing, Im really am happy about them. If you come you have to try these they are fire We both got ribs, tri tip ans basically all the meats they have; the meats were amazing, fresh and delicious. They are awesome honestly. I'm looking at all of these 5 star reviews and I'm wondering how? I'm guessing locals who overvalue a local establishment. This place was not very good. It reeked of smoke. It was so powerful our clothing stunk and needed to be washed. That's not a good sign, even for a BBQ joint, unless you're the one working the pit. The brisket sandwich was cut the wrong way. It was cut with the grain not against it. Folks, this is BBQ 101 first year. When you see this, smile, be polite, acknowledge if they don't know how to cut meat it's hard to say what else they don't know about BBQ. The beans tasted like Kerosene. This is common if they use an accelerate in their pit while cooking. I'm not saying they do, but it happens often leaving off tastes. I had to go back and give a review. I was here at the beginning of June. I found myself thinking about the pulled pork sandwich I had here when I found myself stopping for the night in Concordia on a brutal 3 day drive from Los Angeles to Maine. I've had a lot of bbq in my time and this spot is not one to skip. Everything about my stop was absolutely brilliant, no notes. I could tell that this place probably gets pretty rowdy on the right night too. We went at like 5 pm and as we were leaving we saw what were clearly plenty of regulars making their way in and grateful we missed what was likely to be a crowd. I hope the people of Concordia know how much of a gem they have in this restaurant. It's "quaint" and snooty people might turn their nose up at it, but we all know that truly good bbq is not for the snooty. The service was wonderful without being overbearing or disingenuous. The food is a perfect example of midwestern bbq absolutely worth traveling for and the prices are fair. If I ever find myself in your lovely state again I'll be making a point to stop by and check out what else this spot has to offer. I remember my main problem when I stopped there was looking at the menu and thinking that everything looked too good and I had such a hard time choosing. No regrets! Stopped in for lunch at Dempsey's BBQ in Concordia Missouri. Ordered a brisket sandwich a pork spare rib and an iced tea. The pork spare rib wasn't too bad, the iced tea was okay as well. Unfortunately the brisket meat was spoiled. When I brought this to the manager or I guess as I was informed the owner's attention, his exact words were "well the guy just before you said it was the best brisket he ever had".... apparently if you cure a brisket it does not go bad at least that is what the owner of Dempsey's maintains. If the meat was not rotten I'm sure it would have tasted just fine but unfortunately the snide demeanor of the owner will prevent me from ever going back to that place. So I do not recommend this restaurant unless you really have no other options and hopefully your food will not be rotten when you get it. read more
