Delicious Food, Slow Service I met up with a good friend to catch up over breakfast and decided to check out Dell Rooster at 1825 W. Chicago Ave. First, let me say that this place is beautiful. The restaurant has a warm Mexican-inspired interior, cozy booth seating, and large bay windows that bring in plenty of natural light. I even remember noticing how clean the bathrooms were, which is always a good sign. Overall, the atmosphere was welcoming and comfortable. The hardest part of the experience was deciding what to order because so much of the menu looked good. Lately, I've been making more of an effort to try sweet breakfast items, so I ordered the pancakes while my friend got the French toast. Both were excellent, though I have to admit the French toast may have had a slight edge. I also ordered breakfast tacos, which I hadn't had in quite some time, and they were absolutely delicious. The food was easily the highlight of the visit. The only downside was the service. Our waitress seemed very kind, but there were a few communication issues. For example, I asked whether they had decaf coffee and was told no. I then asked if they had any caffeine-free teas and was told no again, only for her to later mention chamomile tea. When I explained that chamomile is naturally caffeine-free, she seemed genuinely surprised. It was an odd interaction, but not a major issue. The service was also a bit slow throughout the meal, which was really the only thing that kept this experience from being even better. Overall, I enjoyed my visit and would definitely come back. The food was excellent, the atmosphere was great, and with a little improvement in service, this could easily be a standout brunch spot. 4 out of 5 stars.

So so so good is all I can say! The service was wonderful and the food has me absolutely wanting to go back. Also please don't miss out on the cocktails, I had one of the best old fashioned cocktails here along with a mango cocktail! I can't wait to go back and I absolutely will be checking out their amazing daily specials!

Stopped in for a quick breakfast. Breakfast tacos, enchiladas, and Mexican coffee. Service was fast and friendly! Vibe was giving brunch spot for margs. Would stop in for a casual bite again.

Came here for an impromptu lunch/brunch on a snowy Sunday around 1pm. They were able to accommodate our group of 5. Service was friendly but not overbearing. Food was flavorful and delicious! I got the crispy rooster sandwich which was reasonably priced and good portion size. The rest of my group also enjoyed their meal. Next time I need to try the short rib skillet because that looked amazing!!

Rabos encendidos - so good!

Drawn to their unique menu, my friend and I ventured here for Sunday brunch. We had made a reservation, but it was surprisingly unnecessary - plenty of open tables. They have indoor and outdoor seating, which is nice but it's basically a bar so ambiance was lacking. Food was great - we started with the rabos encendidos and don't sleep on this - the perfect combination, packed with flavor! I also got the papas con chorizo, which was very tasty. For drinks, they have a full bar but not espresso offerings so we just hopped over to a nearby coffeeshop after our meal. Service was ok, a little slow but we weren't in a hurry so no big deal. For half a starter, OJ, and a main, I think my bill was ~$30. If you're interested in brunch fare with a Latin American twist, Dell' Rooster is worth checking out.

Valencia Style Paella

Stopped by Dell' Rooster for restaurant week, what a nice and a friendly place. Nothing over the top, had the Valencia style Paella which was amazing and right up my alley. Tomatoey and oniony, soupy finish with all the great saffron paella smells and flavors. The shirt rib was a little overcooked (but seems to be a fan favorite) and the drink menu and drinks were nothing special so it's not a full dinner experience but I would come here and stuff my face on a Tuesday night with no remorse.

Service was amazing! Vibes were great. Food was subpar & just ok.. lots of reviews say it's delicious but for Valentine's Day, we came here for dinner & the food wasn't mind blowing. It was pretty average in my opinion. The only good food was the coconut shrimp! and the el Rico suave drink was good. I probably won't be back.

Came to this spot for Saturday brunch (around 11am) with no reservation and was able to be sat within 10min. From the name to interior design, the spot was very Latin. The spot was spacious and the restaurant was filled with customers but not hectic. Not pictured but we shared an oxtail plantain appetizer that was savory with a hint of sweetness and definitely worth trying. I would have it as a main dish tbh. Our main entrees were the torta and chilaquiles. They had similar color make up as the oxtail dish since they were all red sauce base. Both rich in flavor and heavy in meal. I am new to chilaquiles but the tortilla chips were not soggy and had a nice crisp for me to enjoy the entire plate. Both my boyfriend and I stayed full the rest of the day with how hearty this meal was. Definitely a spot worth a try, for the flavors, decent price, & hearty meal.

Went to Dell Rooster for an early dinner. Service was great... friendly and fast. The bar area is rather small and not conducive to sitting there, so if you're a bar person plan to sit at a table. Food and cocktails were excellent. Note that at the time the cocktail menu on their web site didn't match the menu in the restaurant. The drink I wanted was not on the menu but she made it for me anyway. Thanks!! My paella was really tasty and super moist. And so filling. My wife loved her short rib. We will definitely come back again.

The food was absolutely delicious. Everything was seasoned very well and the cafe de olla was amazing. The service was top notch he was warm welcome and left us needing nothing. It definitely added to the cozy atmosphere and ambiance.

Stopped in for brunch on a recent Sunday as a good friend suggested we check it out as we like to try spots we havent checked out. Small mom and pop joint which is usually preferred and I believe its classified as latin fusion cuisine. Decor looks very much like you're in a latin food spot. They make a good mezcal old fashioned here, but I very much enjoyed the mango rico which is mango infused rum, lime juice, and mango puree. Sounds sweet as hell but not too sweet. All the apps/first bites looked great but we had to start with the Rabo Encendido which is cuban style braised oxtail, pickled onions, chipotle aioli and queso fresco on top of plaintains...outstanding!!! Melts in ya damn mouth! I almost didnt wanna order anything else after eating that...woooo! I decided to go with the Rooster & Sons Enchiladas...was pretty good. My friend got the Papas Con Chorizo and it was very good! I would definitely come back here for brunch and would love to see what dinner is like.

This place is a hidden gem! Delicious food for starters. The short rib fell apart beautifully. The dates were so yummy. The staff were super friendly and efficient. We made a reservation for dinner before a concert at United Center. This place is only 7 minutes away. So we had a really good dinner, great drinks and were able to easily hop out over to the concert. They have tables and booths available. We found street parking right outside the door. Can't recommend enough!

Like, if you're interested in Cariño, I think the Michelin guide is slightly more reputable than me (though I am a long time Elite Yelper). Or all the rave reviews it's been getting everywhere. But what I will say is all the fanfare is well deserved. We did the chef's counter reservation at 6pm, and while I was apprehensive to chat with the chefs while they were working, I loved being able to see all the magic behind putting together probably the best meal I've had in the past year or more. We skipped the wine pairing and didn't miss it at all as the cocktails in themselves felt like mini-courses with how inventive they were. Almost every dish surprised us in some small way, either in the amount of ingredients incorporated, or with just how artistic it looked (and usually both). We were so impressed that we're excited to try and find a way to muster up the energy to check out their 10pm taco omakase. If you're looking for a fun and refreshing fine dining experience, Cariño absolutely fits the bill.

Intimate setting with just 7 seats at the chef's counter and 12 in the dining area. 9/13 dishes were great. There's no "smoke and mirrors" at the chef's counter. For an additional $20, we received two extra courses and an intimate look at a high-functioning, high-pressure kitchen. Chef Norman Fenton's exacting expectations are on full display. It's a masterclass in attention to detail, though the transparency comes with a side of tension. I loved the honesty of the experience, but if your goal is a serene conversation over dinner, the main dining room is the play. 5/5 Would be sad to never have again (1) * Chamoyada: Palate cleansers are always refreshing, but this was next level. Fruity and fresh heaven. 4.5/5 Great (8) * Chips and Salsa: Impressive to finish like a true salsa and chip. My wife loved * Chicharron: Rich corn and cheese dip. * Aguachile: Stunning visually. Lovely chile broth. * Quesadilla: Truffle uses well to round the dish. Super rich with black garlic. * Lamb: Super rich glaze. Great accompaniments from the beets and sauces. * Pineapple dessert * Horchata chai: Banana pieces were incredible. Good sweetness level. * Finishing bites: Nice 33% and 66% chocolate. Fun little bites. 3/5: OK (3) * Ravioli: Ravioli inside was rich, but overly so. Nice corn sauce but there was a corn component on the outside of the dish that had an unpleasant chewy flavor. * Tacos Dorados/Bluefin Tuna/Toasta: Love the idea of taco flight, and a great mix of textures. But none of the taco flavors hit for me. * Black Cod: Great components, but a sum that added up to less not more. Ultracrispy kale, but it tasted far better on its on. Nice green sauce and cod. Chayote texture felt out of place for me. 2/5 Not good (1) * Michelada: The Modelo beer foam dominated what I'm sure was lovely oyster.

We ordered the following: chicken pasta and we added shrimp to the dish, the salmon dish, chicken, steak and shrimp fajitas, steak tacos, empanadas and several drinks. The food was fresh but I would say that the food overall lacked seasoning and they didn't give us enough tortillas for the fajitas so we had to keep asking the staff to bring us more tortillas. The restaurant was NOT crowded so I was a little irritated by the fact that our wait staff was not giving us the attention that we needed. We had to keep asking them to come to our table to provide us with different things such as jalapeño peppers, more seasonings, napkins and water. What was odd is the tacos and the fajitas did not come with taco sauce or salsa. We literally had to ask them to provide us with some salsa/taco sauce and they did, but it was just odd that it wasn't provided initially. This place has the potential to be great, but unfortunately, they need to focus on seasoning the food and paying attention to the customers needs. We had booked this reservation 7 days in advance and they knew we were celebrating a 21st birthday, so there was no excuse for the lackluster attention to our table. They are more focused on selling pictures, and the theatrical production in the restaurant than the food and customer service. I was NOT impressed with the service. The food has the potential for greatness if it had more flavor/seasonings.

We tried the provoleta with peppers because we like that a lot in Argentina, but this was nothing like it and I guess that was to be expected. There they have a bunch of drier version of provolone and they grill it directly on the grill grates and it doesn't really melt too much. This tasted like standard provolone cheese and it was melted in a bowl. It was tasty, and unfortunately they probably can't get the Argentinian version of the cheese they would need to do it correctly. Our friends got the beef brochette with asparagus and the outside skirt steak and both were fabulous. Well seasoned and grilled and tender. My husband and I got the 2 pound stuffed fillet! It supposedly had ham in the filling but I couldn't taste it or see it anywhere. Unfortunately it had a really strongly flavored sauce along with the portobello mushrooms. We expected something with fewer herbs, which kind of overpowered the beef. It's a shame because the way they described it on the menu is not what came out. It wasn't bad. It just wasn't what we were expecting and unfortunately, the beef flavor was hard to discern because of all of the herbs in the dark brown sauce. We brought our own wine and they didn't even have a corkage fee, which was amazing! We saw other plates go by with copious amounts of tomatoes and onions on salads and the filet mignon platter, it seemed like it was three or four pieces of fillet it had to be nearly a pound for one serving. The prices are pretty steep for the beef and they do charge $10 for sharing, however it might be worth just getting one of the larger plates and spending the 10 bucks to share as opposed to getting an entrée each and taking home lots of food which we did.

We focused first on our entrees of interest, then our server walked us through which starters to go with, since our entrees were on the large side. Note the dishes are in Spanish, so one may require assistance with descriptions. Here's what we ordered: 1) Heirloom tomatoes. Refreshing and beautifully plated, with huitlacoche (a fungus that infects corn yet is considered a delicacy--"Mexican truffle") fondue, pickled peaches and basil oil. Delish. 2) Esquites. A pretty classic but well-done execution. Corn, epazote, chili powder, cheese and lime. 3) Couscous chile relleno. This is an entree, but we split it as a starter. A poblano pepper stuffed with cauliflower, guajillo and Gruyere cheese with a couscous salad alongside. Unique and delish. 4) Pink risotto. This was on the special October menu celebrating Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a journey through Jalisco, Mexico. The risotto had goat cheese and short rib, tinged pink with pickled onion, radish and beets. Nice. 5) Costillas de res. A HUGE whole short rib braised and served on the bone, topped with tomato, onion, charred avocado, Brussels sprouts and chiles. Served with flour tortillas, Could really serve two. The mussels themselves were fine, but the dried chorizo and pickled jalapeños really elevated the dish. The habanero salsa wasn't really my thing and felt unnecessary since everything was already so flavorful. Cacao 7.5/10: Satisfying, but not as good as Maiz. There wasn't a hard chocolate shell. Instead, it was a chocolate-almond mousse with coffee cake underneath that tasted almost like a brownie. The chocolate flakes added a nice crunch, and I appreciated that it wasn't overly sweet. Service 6/10: Service was more hands-off this time around. We didn't get our second appetizer until about 45 minutes into the reservation, so the food came out pretty slowly.
