Haven't been here in a few years, but this used to be my favorite local Philly chicken cheese steak sub, but unfortunate no more! Everything was off! The bun wasn't even close and more like a bagged bun you can buy in any grocery store. The meat was overcooked to the point I couldn't tell if it was chicken, beef, or any other animal? I love hot pepper relish, but really? The cook must love it also because he put so much on it was gross! I couldn't taste anything but the relish! (May have been deliberate to cover up the fact that everything else was substandard and overcooked, the onions, meet, and the mushrooms. I miss my old Delaware sub shop! What happens? New owner? Cheese steak was extremely soggy because of the excessive oil. The bun is straight out the wrap not even toasted or even have butter in it. I asked for extra meat and cheese and they bullshitted me. Soon as I saw it when I went to go pick it up I knew it it was too small, but let's see how it taste. I get home, opened it and already knew what it was gonna be. Barely any cheese long thick pieces of meat. The meat is not seasoned. I paid 16 dollars for this bogus sub, I had to add cheese and toast it myself. My wife and I called ahead since they were about 15 minutes until closing and we were told they would not close early. Got there 5 minutes later and ordered. Ordered the food and even though I had to get up and get my food on my own, I was expected to tip, so I left about 25%, got my food and sat down to eat quickly as a courtesy to the people getting ready to close. The food was not as good as I remembered and had less turkey than I expected. We sat at a table and used the paper that the sandwich was wrapped in to avoid making a mess and after walking out the door, the cashier that I tipped runs to the door and yells at me " get your Mother to teach you how to clean up after yourself". I guess I was supposed to bus the table myself AFTER TIPPING. It would have just involved grabbing the paper and finding a nearby trash can. The guy that opened this place many years ago was a nice and hard working guy who would often wipe off tables and visit with his happy customers since they were so busy back then, but I cant imagine he would have wanted to see his employees act this lazy and entitled. Not going to support a place where employees wait until they get a generous tip then yell at customers for not doing the job they are paid to do ( and tipped ). I usually get a large, eat half, then reheat the next half in the oven the next day. The locations where they have two for one days, I get TWO LARGES! I ordered a grilled vegetable sandwich but requested no green peppers in it because I can only handle so much before breaking out(since I have an allergy to them) but instead I got one packed with all kinds of peppers, including green. Best Philly Cheesesteak in Austin. Better, in fact, than one I had in Philidelphia at Reading Market last year. Every ingredient in this sandwich is devine. From the toasty bread down to the hot and mild peppers, with onions and catsup laid down magnificently over the beef and cheese... On Thursday's you can get these on a 2 for one special. Doesn't need a huge review! It's that good. I've had their Italian Sub as well and they're great, but nothing in town can touch Delaware Subs in terms of the Philly! Except your mouth, of course... I'm only giving a 2 based on previous experiences at this location only. The subs are great. They are on the expensive side, and service is super slow at lunch. I looked up their hours on Google, their own website, and their Facebook page. Facebook said 8, but the other listings said 7:30. No problem for getting there at 6:40, right? Nope. Closed. I had this same problem repeatedly at the Anderson Mill location before they closed and the owner left that petty note on the door. I also went one day last year to the Oak Hill location to find the them totally boarded up and closed while the website still listed the location. So, in summary, call before you go. I had lunch here on Friday. Ordered the italian, cold sandwhich. it was ok. I wished it came with mustard instead of oil and vinegar - not b/c its not good but bc I ended up breaking out from the oil and vinegar in the sandwhich. I had to go back to work and wasn't in the position to stop somewhere to buy face soap. lesson learned. always carry something with you. with chips and an iced tea it was $11. and that was a small sub. eh. In the day, this -was- the Go To place for East Coast subs in Austin. Really great subs & cheesesteaks at a fair price. On a recent visit, however, it seems the quality of the bread has dropped off. It's a smaller roll, not as good a crust, and more cakey than bready inside. So that changes the whole sandwich & what you're getting. Now, it's just comparable to a ThunderCloud sub but a couple bucks more. And it's easier to find a nearby ThunderCloud than drive to Deleware. I stopped by here last night for take-out for the family and we all got cheesesteaks. There was one guy staffing the counter and cooking as well and he was nice enough, but had a hard time dealing with special requests. They have marinara sauce on several of their sandwiches. I asked if I could get marinara on my sandwich. Response: "I don't know how to ring that up." Another sandwich was ordered with cherry peppers and sweet peppers. Their response was to give us a couple of containers with the peppers in them because "We have people complain the sandwiches are too wet when we put them on." When you combine the odd service with the relatively bland meat and the skimpy portions of mushrooms, there's better options. Bluntly, my cheesesteak required copious amounts of ketchup and a generous shake of Italian seasoning to have any flavor whatsoever. Tried this location for the first time. It was a horrid experience. The menu is limited, they don't have guacamole spread, they don't have wheat bread, no black olives, and the staff wasn't paying attention to my order. I've lived most of my life in Delaware, and I have to say that their turkey sub is the real deal. I felt like I was back home for a minute! They also offer sweet peppers which is TERRIFIC (no banana peppers, though. Tut-tut!) The daily deals are reasonable as well. Despite that, it only gets three stars from me. While the store being run-down isn't something that particularly bothered me (a majority of the sub shops in my hometown look about the same), I could see how it would be off-putting. Also echoing other reviews, service is slow so expect to sit for a bit if you're ordering a hot item or more than one sandwich. And good luck finding parking if you arrive at lunch time. The biggest issue for me was the regular Philly cheesesteak being just plain weak. Dry, bland and not finely chopped. If you're from the greater Philadelphia area or Delmarva and are hunting for a cheesesteak, you'd be better off going to Jersey Mike's or even Pluckers for one. Also, no option for wheat bread on online orders. I haven't had an honest-to-god real sub in about seven years before visiting Delaware Subs. But between the slow service, lack of parking, and the disappointing cheesesteak, I really don't see myself visiting unless I'm already in that part of town. read more

(In the tune of 'toga' from Animal House) I am ashamed to say I have never stepped foot in this joint BUT I have been able to enjoy their Philly Cheesesteak not once, not twice but three glorious times. It has always been brought to me when I visit Austin and it has fast become one of my favorite aspects of visiting Austin. I would give it five stars but I haven't dined in the restaurant, which I feel is a big component when it comes to reviewing. The bread is lined with amazing white American cheese, packed with delicious sweet & spicy peppers, sauteed mushrooms and sliced rib-eye steak. I am drooling just thinking about how the perfectly melted cheese envelopes the perfect ratio of ingredients that constitute the inside of the sandwich. For the sake of being adventurous, next time I will branch out and try their Italian. And I think you should too! read more

OK, so awhile ago I figured out why their bread is hit-or-miss, but I've been forgetting to update this. If you ever have a Philly cheesesteak in Philadelphia, you'll find that the ONE thing they agree on is that "real" cheesesteaks always come on rolls from the Amoroso Baking Company. ALWAYS. I've often wondered why Delaware's rolls are sometimes AMAZING, and sometimes a bit hard/dry (dare I say stale?); the reason, I've found out, is because they do, in fact, use Amoroso rolls. When they are fresh, they are amazing, but since they only get them in twice a week (as opposed to every day like you would if you were in Philly) then they are sometimes a bit dry. I always forget about this place. I was in need of a quick lunch to bring back to my desk and I remembered this place all of the sudden. I headed out and got a Chicken Philly and it was quite good. There is nothing really to complain about with the food. The bread is warm and crispy, the meat was tender, and the grilled onions were excellent. I have had cold subs here too and they have been good as well, but the warm subs are definitely where it's at. The other kick-ass thing is that the specials are a hell of a deal. I've been to Philadelphia and had their Philly Cheesesteaks, and I can honestly say that the (steak) Philly Cheesesteaks at Delaware Subs can hold its own. It's certainly the best one I've had in Austin. I like that Delaware toasts their buns and also adds grilled mushrooms and onions free of charge. My favorite way to devour their Philly is to add sweet peppers -- available for a small extra charge, and totally worth it. I debated between a 3-star and 4-star review for the following reasons: The food consistency is really hit or miss here. On a number of occasions, I've been wow'ed by the Philly. It was prepared perfectly. However, on a number of other occasions, the buns come out slightly over-toasted/charred and as other reviewers have mentioned, the onion/mushroom mix comes out black/charred, which really takes away from the taste of the Philly. I'm not sure if this has to do with a (lack of) cleaning or not adding new oil between rounds of grilling mushrooms and onions. The guys who work here are friendly. Pro Tip: Avoid the chicken philly cheesesteak unless you like mostly grilled mushrooms and onions and very little chicken. I've had it twice now, and each time, it barely has any chicken. I had a terrible experience here just now. It took 20 minutes (ok, actually 18 minutes) to get my sandwich. When I arrived home minutes later, I opened my sandwich to find that the cheese on my Philly Cheesesteak was still cold. They were apparently understaffed (two people is probably sufficient to churn out a sandwich in 2-3 minutes but only if those people aren't incompetent) and one of the two was apparently a rookie, as the other kept throwing him under the bus to the numerous complaining patrons. All business have new employees who take time to get up to speed. It's your job as a business owner/manager to have sufficient staff in place to allow new employees to learn the job without your product going to hell. Delaware Subs is famous for their hot Philly Cheese Steak sandwich, but my favorite sandwich is the cold turkey and provolone with all the fixings (mustard, mayo, lettuce, tomato, pickles, hot peppers, Italian oil and spice). They use high quality meats and ingredients, and slice all their meats fresh in-house. I have always experienced great service and delicious food at Delaware Subs. Today, the owner/manager went out of his way to help me with a large special order that I picked up and delivered to an office for a holiday "thank you" gift.
