I always try to be fair, I'd probably have lower expectations if this place wasn't on the Michelin guide; being incredibly familiar with Persian food didn't necessarily help either. I'm not entirely sure what the restaurant concept is, whether it's Persian fusion, Persian inspired or just Persian. And my rating is based on comparing this restaurant to another Michelin guide restaurant, Delbar, in Atlanta, GA. I liked the wine list, and I enjoyed the duck fesenjoon. The fusion of French technique duck in a reduced Persian sauce, fesenjoon, worked really well in my opinion, I'd highly recommend this dish. The service fell short, our server couldn't articulate what the dishes were, and literally responded to our question by reading the menu back to us. I was left without a drink for close to 20 minutes, meaning nobody checked on us. It may have been between shifts, but it doesn't change the fact that we weren't checked on for that long. We also got the salad, it was fresh, light and creative; I'd recommend it. The beef skewer was probably an interpretation of "kabab torsh" but it fell short in my opinion, it didn't have authenticity or flavor. I noticed the restaurant was very popular, so their target audience of Kitsilano locals has worked really well. Everything about this place was amazing, except the service was a bit hard to come by at the beginning. We waited quite a few minutes to order, but the guy we eventually got was pretty nice. The food was amazing, unique, and tasted great when paired together. The meats were tender and moist, except the duck was a liiiittle dry. The sauces on the side helped supplement it there and all other sauces added great layers to the food provided. The chicken had perfectly cooked and flavored veggies that accented it, and the lamb shank was so juicy and flavorful, nearly falling off the bone. Modern Persian cuisine in the Vancouver Kitsilano Beach area. It has been in the Michelin guide for a while so I have high expectations going in, and yet I had a good experience overall. We ordered the following dishes: - Grilled sourdough flatbread and seasonal dips - which is a fennel dip and a carrot hummus dip. They're a bit on the saltier side standalone but great pairing with the flatbread. The flatbread is hard to cut but easy to tear apart - Koofteh - 3 meatballs with plums inside for the additional sweetness. I enjoyed the sauce and the different take of ground beef dish that is usually served in the Mediterranean restaurants. Note the meatballs are on the softer side - Mushrooms, saffron, and cashews - hearty saffron stew with generous amounts of mushrooms. It is served with crispy rice which has its own aroma. The rice is more hard than crispy though - Lamb shank - a bit gamey but my favorite dish here. It was so tender and the sauce goes well with the herbed rice. The flavor profile didn't exactly match up to the rice due to the clash of herbs but I still enjoyed the composition - Tumeric and orange cake - not too sweet which is nice, and I love the decoration. The cake itself was a little bit on the drier side - Saffron Negroni - decent cocktail; didn't really taste much saffron - Gole Yakh "Ice Flower" - cocktail with ice cider which I was intrigued with. Sweet and herbal - I'd recommend this Service is decent and on par with the nicer places - courses came in good cadence and they wiped the table before dessert. Overall, nice flavors and modern take, though the food could be a bit improved given the accolades. read more

Wow, this was fantastic!! Everything was absolutely delicious. Not even a quibble to be made. We started with the sourdough flatbread of my dreams with two kinds of dip: today's offerings were a lovely green lentil dip with pistachios, and a beautiful carrot and tahini dip with walnuts. Both were superb. The bread was top notch. Next, we shared the beef short rib special. WOW. SO. GOOD. Every element on the plate sang - the green sauce on the bottom of the plate tied all the components together. We the shared the braised lamb shanks. Another stellar dish, very unctuous and rich, served with a generous side of rice that seemed like it was at least half fresh herbs. Quite fantastic, and the sauce is delectable. Finally, we had the incomparable baklava made by the owner's mom - unlike most, this does not come soaked in a sugar or honey syrup. Instead, the sweet stickiness is provided by a mixture of dates and walnuts, which is rolled into little phyllo cigars. Served with a lovely unsweetened cream and some fruit. It was so good I ordered a second one to take home!! The service was warm, friendly and helpful. The owner and his mom stopped by the table to say hello. What a phenomenal place. I had this place on my list for a long time so I was excited to finally check it off. Honestly, it lived up to the hype! We came here for their dine-out menu where you got 3 courses for $55/pp for dinner ($35/pp for lunch). For appies we got their sourdough with dips which were amazing! They had hazelnut in one of their dips which was so unexpected but tasted incredible! And we got their roasted cauliflower which was really good too, the cauliflower was cooked very well and came with hummus on the bottom. For mains we got their braised beef which was my favourite, it was a bit sour but had a lot of flavours!! And we also got their chicken and barberries, it was also EXCELLENT! Review: Delara (Brunch in 2023 & Family-Style Dinner in May 2025)Rating: 7.5/10 I've visited Delara twice--once for brunch in 2023 and more recently in May 2025 for their $65 family-style dinner. As a Michelin-recommended restaurant, they offer a unique take on Persian-inspired cuisine at a price point that feels fair for the quality and quantity of food served. Their menu shines in the early courses. I loved the grilled sourdough bread with seasonal dips (lentil and carrot), marinated smoked olives with chili and molasses, and roasted asparagus with za'atar--flavorful, balanced, and beautifully presented. These were easily the highlights of the meal. However, the main courses didn't quite deliver for me. The charcoal-grilled beef skewers were a bit bland and tough on their own. The rice and warm bulgur with barberries and the seasonal salad (greens with feta, turnips, nuts, and orange dressing) were decent but not particularly memorable. Desserts included plum and orange blossom ice cream and baklava with walnut, date, and honey. While the combinations were interesting, the flavors didn't quite match my personal preferences. I had always wanted to go back to Delara after the incredible Dine Out Vancouver meal I had there last year, and finally made it there again. Featured here: Pan Fried Beef, Sumac and Herbs Kotlet Grilled Sourdough Flatbread and Seasonal Dips Braised Lamb Shoulder Sandwich Kookoo Sibzamini Had to order the Kookoo Sibzamini (crispy potato pancakes) again. They were sooo incredible last time I had them, and still just as good this time as well. Only problem with this dish is that it's sooo good, I don't know if I can manage to go to this restaurant and not order it. I'd be tempted to order it everytime, but then I'd never get to try anything new! A close second to the amazing Kookoo Sibzamini though would be the Grilled Sourdough Flatbread and Seasonal Dips. Their dips are so flavorful, and definitely a nice change of pace from the standard hummus dip that we often get at restaurants. If you're looking for traditional persian food that reminds you of home this place won't fully scratch the itch. But, the food is so high quality and really delicious! Definitely get: pomegranate margarita (rim is coated with angelica, so good and it wasn't very sweet at all!). The lamb shank was phenomenal, slow cooked and so delicious! The ghalieh was probably my favorite, the flavors and herbs were perfect (11/10). The chicken with barberry was really flavorful/juicy/good, but I thought it would be barberry rice not barberry on the chicken. Could do without: The tadigh was really average not sure what method they used to make it but it was not very crispy. The doogh was soo creamy it tasted like they made it with cream instead of yogurt, and it wasn't very flavorful. The mahicheh was really good but could use some more herbs/lemon flavor. Our appetizers were great. The koofteh was super tasty but the plum in the middle wasn't tart at all. The summer salad was fun and delicious, and the dips that came with the barbari were yummy. They also brought complementary torshe shoor and yogurt with the meal which was great. Service was fast and food came out at a good speed. We went at the perfect time which was the intersection of happy hour and dinner, so we got discounted appetizers and drinks while still being able to order from the dinner menu. Delara offers modern Persian cuisine. Be ready to be elevated from the typical Persian restaurants with lots of saffron rice and grilled meats. Don't get me wrong, I love these types just as much but nice to have an alternative which highlights Persian cuisine. We shared family style and started with the Grilled Sour Dough Flatbread with 2 seasonal dips (carrot & pumpkin). The bread was warm and crispy and the dips were so flavourful and creamy. Chicken and Barley Soup: I could eat a gallon by myself. A harmonious blend of rich and creamy while also nutty and a little tart. For the Entrees, we had Kookoo Sibzamini (3 crispy savory potato pancakes with a poached egg) and Smoked Rice and Lentil Bowl (rice with spouts, lentils, egg, veggies, nuts, and feta). It was a cool dish which would be great for a warm summer afternoon but not so on a cool winter afternoon. Of the two, I enjoyed the Potato Pancakes the most. Desserts were Saffron Ice Cream and Cardamom Cookie & Turmeric and Orange Cake. I loved both with the strong spice and fruit notes. We didn't order a drink but they have a very interesting cocktail and non-alcohol list. We had coffee from Elysian. Décor is simple and clean. My relatives wanted to check out Delara Restaurant, a high end spot that's trying to elevate Persian cuisine. They're located close to Au Comptoir, Hi-Nippon Japanese and Simit Bakery Cafe. We dropped in on a Wednesday (with 6:30pm reservations). Service was friendly. The menu is short with 5 starters, 6 entrees ($27.00 to $42.00) and three desserts. Easily the priciest Persian spot I've been to. There's a daily happy hour from 3:00pm to 5:00pm. - Plum cherry sharbat ($6.00) - not too sweet but the cinnamon had a nice underlying note. - Smoked eggplant and braised beef shortrib ($34.00) - tasty combination. The fennel added a light, refreshing contrast. - Fesenjoon ($30.00) - sauce had a hint of sweetness but found it one dimensional. Would be better offered as a half portion. - Chicken and barberries ($29.00) - Rosewater saffron marzepan with pistachio - small, one bite dessert to end our meal. Fantastic wine, service, and food--what other holy trinity could you want at a restaurant? It was only after I got to Delara that I realized it used to be the old Burgoo. Wow, I almost didn't even recognize it with how much they transformed the space! The whites and blues make it feel so much more spacious than the dark wood that covered all the surfaces before. We started off by ordering the roasted cauliflower and flatbread and dips as appetizers. The lentil walnut dip was so good; I could've just eaten that for the meal and been happy. I liked how much lemon they used in the cauliflower to really keep it bright. For mains, we ordered the chicken and barberry, lamb shank, and braised short rib. Chicken dishes usually don't blow me away, but this chicken was so tender and flavorful--turns out it gets marinated for 48 hours and then cooked sous vide. The pomegranate molasses in the lamb shank was also excellent, providing a sweet balance to the meatiness. I loved the smoked eggplant in the short rib but found the texture to be a little off-putting; it almost felt too tender to be meat. I wished it had a little more chew to it. The service was excellent, although a tad slow at the beginning! I think the person who served us might have been part of the management team... in any case, she was incredibly friendly and gave us some great background info on our wine selection. The prices reflected their classiness, but it also wasn't break-the-bank type numbers either. I came in for Happy Hour (3pm) and was pleasantly surprised that I could still order off the brunch menu I was drawn to the simple and inviting decor here, with the light-colored walls, plants, and blue cloth napkins. The warm lighting just makes the experience and meal level up a notch The Happy Hour menu offers items $10 and under and they offer an abundant selection of drinks The grilled homemade seedy sourdough flatbread was pretty soft and perfectly dippable with their spread. Today, it was Lentil & Walnut and Carrot. The colors of the carrot dip was so vibrant and both were delicious! The Koofteh ($10) came with 3 large meatballs made with beef, rice and split peas. Its a bit salty for those who don't mind but had good flavor. The Braised Lamb Shoulder sandwich ($19) was my favorite and the mint labneh and pickles in the sandwich created a balance of flavors. There was a small hiccup with our dish and the staff tried to make everything right. They made a brand new dish and Chef Bardia Ilbeiggi even came to apologize and offered some baklava to take home. Dinner review: Really delicious meal, but it hurt my wallet a little. To be fair we ordered quite a bit, so maybe we should've been prepared. We got the sourdough flatbread starter which was delicious. My friend is allergic to walnuts though (mild, he was going to suck it up), so they also brought a hummus for us, which was really nice of them. All the dips were really good, to the point where we were just eating them straight after we finished our bread. We got a lamb shank and the beef rib ghalieh, both which had such tender and flavourful meat I used my spoon for my entire meal. I was definitely full after the mains, but we saw the reviews for the desserts so we had to try them. Not pictured, but we got the saffron ice cream and the turmeric & orange cake. The ice cream was creamy but not too sweet, which I prefer. The cake was my favourite though, it was a little on the sweeter side but the flavours are so light and the cake is so moist that it's easy to eat. Overall really nice restaurant, the service was great, the place is clean and a background to the night, if that makes sense. If you're looking for your next dinner spot, check this one out. Got to try this Michelin guide restaurant during Dine Out. I haven't had much experience with Persian food so all of the dishes were new to me. The appy flat bread with their hummus was very nice and a great start to the meal. Then I chose their chicken main, which was fine but the meat portion compared to the giant mound of rice was a bit off, and my personal taste wasn't a huge fan of the super saffron-y rice. Then the dessert was a saffron Gelato that was light in the saffron taste and was a nice palate cleanser for the end. My friends and I were looking for a good Persian restaurant and I suggested this. The location is the old Burgoo on W. 4th. I can't remember how long ago that was but Delara took over. The food was really good. I got the Grilled Beef Short Rib Gheymeh as you can see from the photos. It is slow cooked short ribs beef with stew of lentils and topped with potato sticks. On the side is saffron rice. The crust is crispy and the rice was a little dry but it goes with the stew so it all works together. The prices are on the higher end but it is worth it. I've been to many Persian restaurants. Many. The one thing most of them have in common is their disbelief in customer service. Many Persian restaurants that I've been to all over the world...it seems to be a pattern that as long as they seat you, they bring you what you ordered and when done take your payment....then they've done their job. It's really interesting, it's almost as if the staff just walk around like the've been up for 12 hours straight trying to feed a newborn that just won't eat or sleep, and they just want it to end. This is pretty much the theme with most Persian restaurants. With this place the pattern that I've seen so many times repeat itself was broken. I'll tell you how. Typical Persian restaurants: 1. No service 2. Depressing Persian music 3. Dated and Dusty decor 4. Bad lighting (if any) Now as for our experience at DELARA. When we first walked in right away the atmosphere was bright, modern, clean and shiny with a great smell....at the same time we were greeted by a warm welcome...like someone would into their home as if expecting a personal guest, and which is so characteristic of the Persian culture. I was so surprised, expecting the opposite, that I thought for a second that we were in the wrong place. The seating area, menu and table arrangements were contemporary, beautifully decorated with a fresh and tasty food selection. A new and fresh spin on Persian food. I was excited! Our waitress was so bubbly, friendly and attentive that it made the experience wonderful. She smiled. Yes, smiled! ....trust me that's not something you see very much in Persian restaurants. Absolutely loved this place. Came here with a friend and it was my first experience here. The layout and decor of the restaurant is absolutely gorgeous and bright. The service was wonderful - the staff were quite friendly and hard working. I don't have a lot of experience with Persian food but I do enjoy it hence I do get to try it out - I do have to say that I was very surprised at how much I loved the food at Delara. The menu didn't have any traditional Persian dishes. I applaud the creativity but it appeared as if they are trying to be different just to be different, mixing in some traditional dishes would have been nice. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The atmosphere left a lot to be desired, the seats were too close to one another not allowing for any privacy between tables and the vibe wasn't good.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Their staff couldn't answer questions about the menu and weren't very professional. Yum! What a delightful spot in Kitsilano for modern Persian food! Decided to come try it out for dinner. The vibe was very nice and aesthetic, airy and bright (as compared to Burgoo before). Seated promptly after being checked vaccine passports. Ordered their saffron negroni ($15) to start and it was nice and strong. Got two appetizers to share with a friend. The first was the Grilled Sourdough Flatbread and Seasonal Dips ($13). One was beet and the other one was squash - both excellent with the fresh bread. The second appy was the Grilled Octopus and Navy Beans ($17). Yummy but a bit pricey for charcoal grilled octopus, roasted carrots, navy beans and herbs. Must say the octopus was very tender and flavourful though! For the main, we shared the Grilled Beef Short Rib Gheymeh ($34). Super umami filled - slow cooked and grilled beef short rib served in a tangy stew of lentils and dried lime, topped with crispy potato sticks. On the side were rice, yogurt and pickles. Lastly, dessert! Saffron Ice Cream ($10) was sandwiched between two pistachio and cardamom cookies - not too sweet, which was great. The Turmeric and Orange Cake ($10) was topped with orange blossom buttercream, almonds, pistachios, rose and candied orange. It tasted more like a loaf and was very moist! read more

Came here for my friends baby shower. The place is cozy and cute. Most of us ordered their popular potato pancakes. I must say I would like some sauce on my pancakes. I used the egg yolk and salad for the first layer of the pancake then it got a bit blend for me after. My friends really enjoyed it though. There are 5 options on the menu for brunch. It's good for indecisive people like me. I tried a bite of the baklava and it's a bit too sweet for me. The restaurant is not loud so it's good for conversation, meeting or dates. I would say reservation is recommended though as I do see a steady flow of guests coming in on a Saturday morning since they open. read more

Came here for dinner with another couple. The food was good but the portions were lacking. We ordered the appetizer Roasted Cauliflower and it was quite good. We ordered the Saffron Mushroom Stew, which was nice but lacking in mushrooms. The Beef Ghalieh stew was very good but there were only a few pieces of beef which was disappointing. The flavours were delicious and tangy but it was mostly sauce. The duck was delicious and there was actually a duck breast so had no issues with this dish. It was more of a sweet and tangy taste. I think the duck was my favourite dish out of all the mains. You need a lot of rice to eat here because almost the entire meal was sauces. Very different and refreshing flavours. The crispy rice on top was really yummy. This is not a low carb meal. Corkage fee was $30. Overall the meal was tasty but sadly overpriced for mainly sauce and rice. Flavours were really good and I would have given 4 stars but it was expensive for mainly sauce and rice. read more
