Unfortunately, I was very disappointed with my experience. Ordered take out for a pick up on my way home from work. When I arrived the food was ready, however, not a single staff member was helpful and actually quite rude as I tried to get my order. Ended up speaking to a host and 4 staff just to figure out the pick up. When I got home the food did not match what was was described, salmon skewers were only baked salmon filet, the $9.99 salad was less than a cup of diced tomato and cucumber and the beef skewer was dry and under seasoned. Surprising considering how many great reviews there are. With so many choices for great Persian food on the North Shore I will go some place else next time. read more

If you are looking for a place to feel like you're in a movie set or impress someone then do not pass by Akbarjoojeh! This place looks so pretty on the outside with the different coloured flowers and stained glass windows but when you walk in, your jaw will drop to the floor! It is stunning beyond words with all types of Persian decor scattered throughout the restaurant in every nook and cranny. My eyes couldn't stop scanning the place and seeing something new each and every time. Beautiful colours of red, gold and various others popping out all over the place. The enormous golden samovars just screamed luxe. Even the menus have a carpet like material on the outside...I just couldn't believe how much attention to detail there was in this stunning restaurant. It is an experience that transforms you to the Middle East that makes you feel like royalty! The service is quick and friendly even though they are so so so sooooo busy! Now let's get to the food...believe it or not but it's just as amazing as the decor. The koobideh beef is juicy and very thick too. The joojeh chicken is super tender and melts in your mouth. The shishlik was the star, even in a well done form it was somehow still tender and juicy! The yogurt drink is refreshing, the Akbar mashti ice cream is fragrant and sweet and you can't go wrong with ordering anything on this fantastic menu. My deepest compliments to the chef!!! I'd say the Akbar joojeh dish could do with a touch less oil and their tea could've been more dark and fragrant as it was quite bland after the symphony my senses had gone through and the baklava would've been nice in Persian style instead of Arabic to tie in with the atmosphere more but these are very nit picky types of comments as this place is the best one in the lower mainland to go to especially when you're craving middle eastern eats. We came here for Christmas dinner and were blown away by the food and ambience. We ordered the fried eggplant dip, spinach yogurt dip, and shirazi salad to start. All were delicious. For the mains we had the Vaziri (koobideh and joojeh) and the Akbar Loghmeh. It was the best koobideh I have ever had. The rice was also cooked perfectly. We enjoyed the music and beautiful decor. Akbar Joojeh is a gem! Recommended to us by locals, it's unassuming from the outside, but the seating area is cozy and vibrant. The vibe is casual but warm, and service is friendly and fast and they're wearing cute ethnic clothes that match the vibe. Portions are huge for the price, and everything tastes homemade in the best way! You should be able to split one meal with two people easily! Unfortunately we had no idea this place is known for their joojeh (grilled chicken), so we didn't get it. Also didn't know you should order some dips with the free bread. We got beef and chicken kabobs - very juicy and tender with a nice flavor. Also got the Chicken with Plum Stew that has a nice flavor and the chicken was fall off the bones without being dry - even found a few plum seeds, so it's definitely real plums. Everything came out really quick since some are ready-made, but you wouldn't be able to tell. It's a great spot whether you're dining in or grabbing takeout. The berry salad is also great, sweet and tangy, and it goes really well with the meal. The restaurant has a cozy vibe and the staff are very friendly and welcoming. The menu is quite extensive, but the Akbar joojeh is what they're known for. Roasted Cornish game hen with a salty, crisp skin and flavorful meat. The hen was a little drier than expected, even though we asked for it to be juicy and moist, but the flavor was spot on, especially with the pomegranate molasses. Koobideh and joojeh were also cooked perfectly and I could've eaten a whole bowl of the mast o moosir. They have wide range authentic Persian foods, great ambiance and service , I suggest booking in advance, the prices are higher than other persian restaurants however their quality is if not the highest is one of the best. Don't come here if: Atmosphere and Environment are important to you, as it is quite cramped and requires some cleaning. Also, the service even though friendly they can be overwhelmed, and you as a table may feel the lack. Do come here if: You want to try exotic and creative Persian dishes with a twist. I actually thought all the dishes were quite good (see pic.) Yeah....I enjoyed all seven dishes...with the exception of one little yogurt, which I'm sure felt out of place as no one really went for seconds from it. The service was friendly and they tried to keep all tables happy as they were packed and had a line up out the door on a Saturday evening. Oh....and one thing...they don't serve tea and deserts on the weekends. Not serving tea in a Persian restaurant is like....not serving wine in an Italian restaurant....so, some room for improvement. Akbarjoojeh 19th in Vancouver a solid 10/10. The Joojeh Kebab was incredibly juicy and full of flavor, and the Koobideh Kebab was just as delicious. The Tahdig was perfectly crispy, and the rice and bread were both excellent. If I had to pick something to skip, it would be the half hen, while it was good, the kebabs definitely stole the show. I ordered the chicken and plum stew, and my partner ordered the dill rice and osso bucco. We also ordered an eggplant dip and the famous Persian yogurt drink called dough. The food was fantastic, delicious, juicy, big portions. The ambiance was nice, service was fast. The only issue we had was the lack of dinnerware. We've been longtime visitors to Akbar Joojeh in Vancouver, especially on weekends when our family comes up from Seattle. We have three young children with special needs, so dining out requires a bit of planning and care. We usually look for a quieter table where the kids can feel comfortable and not be disruptive to others. Today, I called ahead and kindly explained our situation, asking if it would be possible to reserve a table. Unfortunately, I was told they don't take reservations -- no exceptions. I was disappointed by the lack of consideration, especially after explaining that our children can be a bit loud and that we simply needed a suitable space to make the experience smoother for everyone. Because of this, we had to change our plans last-minute and went to Cholo Chicken instead, where they not only accepted our reservation but were extremely warm and welcoming. We've always gone to Akbar Joojeh for the food -- which is excellent -- but good food should come with good service. As restaurants grow in popularity, I hope they don't lose sight of the hospitality and human touch that build lasting relationships with customers. Sometimes, just a little flexibility can make a big difference for families like ours. read more
