Super special sandwich
Jose A.

I went to this small Persian sandwich shop in North Vancouver before heading up to Whistler and Squamish for the weekend. We stopped by quite hungry and wanted something different, so we entered into this small mom-and-pop joint and as a result, I was quite surprised by what we ordered. I personally got the super special sandwich. It includes hotdog, beef and chicken slices with the bread being so thin but still manageable in your hand - I felt like a majority of the sandwich was all of the stuffing like the grilled vegetables, the sauces, and the meat that made the sandwich so tasty. By the end of it, I didn't feel like I was eating a ton of carbs, and every once in a while, a sandwich like this one here will definitely leave a good, lasting effect on you. The overall restaurant was quite clean inside; it was quite sanitary. They had some bathrooms that you could use. Another thing that I also tried was some Persian fruit soda. It was again quite good. I ordered a fruit medley one, and it paired up well with a sandwich, although greasy, it paired up well. Would I return to this place? Yes, I would. I would definitely go here if I am heading up to Whistler for the weekend and wanted to stop for a quick sit-down lunch. Although you could take this for takeout, I wouldn't because of the mess and grease that ensues.

I loved this place for their variety and combinations. Their sandwiches are served with an old style Persian bread that tastes great and delicious. Highly recommend this place especially if you are sandwich lover!

Ambiance and Decor I visited this café and sandwich shop on…read morea Friday afternoon during the lunch rush. It's a small, homey place with simple décor. The lighting isn't the best, as the staff mostly rely on the large entrance window for natural light. Service Quality The staff was kind and friendly. They are more than happy to help you choose a sandwich if it's your first time. You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Menu Variety Their sandwich selection is excellent, and the bread is particularly noteworthy. They also offer a couple of iced tea options, which is a nice alternative to water. Food Presentation If you're dining in, your sandwich will be served in a plastic basket lined with wax paper. For takeout, it's wrapped in the same wax paper. Food Taste and Quality I ordered the Spicy Italian, which had just the right amount of heat. It was generously loaded with greens, and the multigrain bread was fresh, likely baked that morning. Portion Sizes The portions are substantial. I was only able to finish half of my sandwich for lunch. Price and Value The sandwich cost about $15, which is on the pricier side. It would have been nice to see it priced around $12. Overall Experience and Recommendation If you're in the area or heading to Horseshoe Bay to catch a ferry, definitely stop by S'wich for a sandwich. I will definitely be returning to try other options on the menu.

Make sure you try the lobster bisque as it's one of the meatiest I've had to date; full of that shellfish flavour. The French onion soup is an eye catcher but the broth could use a bit more richness and flavour. Beef bourignon was suggested and I'm glad I took the friendly waitress' recommendation as it was a warm hug on a deep plate. I'd opt to swap for roasted potatoes instead of the mash but the mash does soak up all that delicious stew. The jambalaya is full of different proteins and if you're a fan of that, then I'd make sure to eat this perfectly cooked rice dish. I finished off with a banana bread pudding which was exactly that, banana bread in that bread pudding form; Personally I was hoping for bread pudding that was banana flavoured but it was still ooey gooey goodness. Burgoo should be packed to the brim with this menu for these prices and the friendliness of the staff!

We have been frequenting this place since long before Covid, but have never reviewed for some…read morereason. We must like it, we even bought their cookbook to try some of the recipes, especially the Fondumental, which dragged us back there again and again. It wasn't nearly as plentiful or as yummy as we remembered it, but it's still good. The sandwiches and soups have always been rib sticking and tasty. The ambiance has remained the same over the years, a little dark, but the fireplace and the vintage posters are cool. Our server Gary was excellent, Johnny on the spot with all that we were looking for. Their wine and beer is all local, which is a thing these days. My lobster bisque with the FAB salad hit the spot, and the bread piece was exceptional. The lovely K had the onion soup which she liked although said it could use a little more salt. If you want to enjoy a hearty meal on the North Shore down by the water, but not on the water, give it a try, you will not be disappointed!
