Love this neighbourhood gem. So blessed to live so close by to this restaurant. Didn't order anything new. Just stuck with some tried and true favourites, but came with some friends who hadn't tried it before. The huge slab of piping hot bread definitely raised their eyebrows just as it had done for us when we came in previously. I suggested we all share a small order of the Mixed Plate appetizer, so we did that and there was still plenty left over for me to bring home. My favourite dip in the Mixed Plate is the Babaghannush. I love it so much that I decided to have a separate order of Babaghannush as my main entree! My daughter ordered her beloved Cheese Lovers Pide again, while our friends ordered their own Cheese Lovers Pide as well as a Greek Salad and an order of the Lamb Chops. This is a great place to introduce people to Turkish food. read more

Absolutely delightful, delicious Mediterranean cuisine. This place is not run of the mill - their oven baked lavash bread is fluffy, warm and scrumptious. The friendly staff are very helpful. This venue transports you into a different world - one removed from American stresses and at a pace which is more Mediterranean. One of my most favourite hidden gems run by a family like a clock, You will not be disappointed. read more

Really tasty food, nice atmosphere and service. The lavash is amazing. I really enjoyed the lentil soup! I will say, I wouldn't order the shepards guvech again, it was cold and oily. I tried a few bites of my husbands chicken and it was so tender and beautifully spiced! read more

Friend of mine invited me to try this restaurant and I'm glad she did. To start their free lavash bread with garlic sauce appetizer was freshly baked and absolutely delicious. I've ordered beef Iskender Kabob which came with rice and mixed salads. The portion was big and everything on my plate was very flavourful. There are only a handful of Turkish restaurants in the Lower Mainland so it is great Anatolia's introduces us to the cuisine. We ordered the lamb guvech - roasted big chunks of tender lamb with mushrooms. It was tasty but just a bit too oily. It comes with the flat bread lavash and dipping yogurt. We also ordered the Turkish tea. It was disappointing as it just tasted like regular tea but it was a small cup and no refills and expensive for the small size and nothing special. read more

My friend took me to a lovely homey Turkish restaurant in Burnaby this weekend. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Didn't make a reservation but walked in around 5:30pm and no problem getting a table for two. In reviewing their menu: lots of nice appetizers, complete dishes (some include the lavash bread and others do not so read carefully), pizza and a small selection of no-alcoholic drinks. We ordered the Chicken Iskender and Incik (Lamb Shank) and both meats were cooked well but I enjoyed the lamb the most - flavourful and so tender that the meat just fell off the bone effortlessly. The Lamb Shank included the lavash bread and both dishes served with salad and rice. I found the flavours not as intense as Lebanese or Persian grilled meats but equally enjoyed. The portions were huge and absolutely loved the freshly baked lavash bread with yogurt dip - just heavenly and the best I've eaten around town. We were stuff and couldn't finish everything on our table and we came hungry. To finish off our wonderful meal, we ordered 2 Turkish teas. Upon leaving my friend bought 2 pieces of the baklavas for take-away. OMG, perfect in sweetness and so flakey compared to the Greek style. Totally coming back for this on my next visit. Price, portion size, service and the lavash bread won me over so, yes, I'll be back as soon as possible. I have been here a couple of times. This is the first time having thr Iskebder beef kabob. The beef was a little dry for me so a sauce on top would have been alleviating. The side Salads like the pickled beads and carrot Salads were nice and refreshing. The lavash bread, because of the size was nice and entertaining. It was by far my favorite item. It was hot, freshly made and the texture was chewy with a little crunch in the edges and served with a creamy garlic sauce. I could have eaten this huge serving to myself and been satisfied as my meal. I like to end with dessert so I had ordered the kunafah in hopes with would bring back my nostalgia from when I had it in Israel. Unfortately fell short for me, as I feel it should have been crisper and more syrup. But I could be wrong since I've only had it once before. Service could be improved as we called over the waiter a few times to have him only loom at us but not help us. But I would go back for the bread itself again. read more

Came here to break fast last night. They close at 9 but we called ahead of time and they advised they could accommodate as long as we come in a certain time, so that was an awesome option. We received exceptional service by the staff and it was great appreciated. We were hungry but started with the Lavash bread with some hummus and babaghanoush and everything was delicious!!! I ordered the lamb kofta and my colleague had the lamb chops. Everything was delicious. Finished with Turkish coffee and knafe! Delicious and highly recommended! read more

Best Lam chops ever for an even better price. I've been coming to this restaurant for the last 10 years and although it changed owners, it has kept true to its recipes. They have a great lentil soup, cheese pizza, cheesy mushroom dish, and pita style wraps, but I come for their Lamb Chops dish which hits the culinary spot!. One of the most wonderful dish is their Lavash bread. It's a hand made pita-type bread that is baked in their stone oven and brought to your table warm. They pair that with a great Tzatziki garlic sauce that elevates the taste. I dare you to come in to try that and not want to come back again. Just that alone is enough to keep my friends coming back. It's also what they use for their Pizza and pita wraps which is why they taste so good. As for my favorite Lamb Dish. It's usually cooked well, with a slight crisp on the fattier sides which gives it a great crunch to the bite and still juicy. This is also cooked in their stone oven as all their food is. They flavour it perfectly with their own mixture of salts and herbs. The Lamb Chops is served with Rice, salad, pickled cabbage which helps cut the fatty tastes and a creamy carrot salad. All great components of the meal. I'll add that they have an in-house made hot sauce that is very tasty with a good amount spice. Not too hot that I can't taste my food, just right. Everyone of my friends who I have brought here, keeps coming back for more. If you love lamb, you should definitely try it. I've been coming here for years and will keep coming back. read more

Came across Anatolia's while browsing lunch options on SkipTheDishes and glad that I ordered food from here. While many restaurants (apart from fast food joints) are closed during lunch time due to the times we are living in, Anatolia's was open and doing delivery! I ordered the Chicken Iskender and Meat Lovers Pide. To my surprise, it came with complimentary Lavash bread. The chicken was tender, not at all dry and cooked to perfection. It paired well with the side salads. I have not tried the Pide before and this was so tasty! Overall, I was absolutely satisfied with the quality and portion of the food. Anatolia's is definitely going in my favorites and will order again (and hopefully eat at the restaurant someday) P.S: I put the lavash and pide in the oven on broil for about 5mins and that helped in elevating the taste. read more

Amazing food at reasonable price. Nice tea and they have desserts too. Nice staff but only two so a slower paced. Chill restaurant with a few seats so no need to make a reservation but you could if you want to. Clean and simple decor but homey. Pretty quiet place and the volume doesn't go to loud. The customers are a mix of different ethnic groups so it's not just their own people. Street parkings around the area (paid and non-paid). Had an amazing dinner there and would definitely go back soon! Highly recommend if you haven't tried it yet! read more

A good bang for your buck! Not sure if this is the case with every order, but the two times I've been here we have ordered two iskender plates which came with a freshly baked lavash bread. The bread is amazing, it's very difficult to stop yourself from eating it all in one sitting, but remember to save some space for your mains! We ended up with plenty leftover to take home for another meal. The restaurant ambience could be better (it's a bit dingy inside and no music, place is quiet), but this place has been open forever so they must be doing something right. Location is convenient by bus, but parking is a bit sparse on the street. PS: If you're torn between beef and chicken, get the beef. While the chicken is decent, the beef has more flavour. read more

I'm usually very happy to find Turkish restaurants that serve more than street food, but this one was rather underwhelming and a disappointment in general. The baked lavash bread was great, but the chicken kabob left a lot to be desired. It tasted very off like the meat was spoiled and not properly marinated and cooked either. The steamed white rice with it was very boring, as were the side salads. They seemed to use canned pitted green olives to top a dip appetizer. That's a huge miss compared to typical delicious Turkish olives. Service was ok, but they didn't refill the tea I ordered even once. The ambiance was simple but fine, but without great food, the entire experience was lackluster and not worth coming back to. Besides the bread, other food was just barely edible and I left feeling like having a meal here was a mistake. read more

I adore this restaurant. It is important to know your crowd if bringing guests. I have seen people leave when finding out there is no alcohol served. The Wood oven is beautiful and the Turkish lavash bread is so delicious and fun to share. I prefer the dishes that are cooked in the oven. The sides are colourful and delicious. Appetizers depend on individual tastes but if you enjoy garlic, vinegary and lemony mediterranean tastes you will enjoy most choices. Experiment! The staff is friendly, hard working and kind. The ambience is simple and not on the luxurious side. The food is the standout here. The portions are huge. read more

Food was good, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it. My husband and I were walking by and decided to try Anatolia's Gate. We ordered the lentil soup, Meat Lover's pide and the lamb. Oh, I wish I saw Marc D.'s review before going because I wouldn't have ordered the lamb. I too, thought it was pieces of lamb, but it was grilled liver chunks. Not a fan. The Meat Lover's pide was tasty, but I don't think it was $11 tasty. To be honest, I expected a bit more meat. This may be how pieds are made, but when I hear meat lovers, I expected Meat Galore! Maybe call it Meat Pied instead? =P As for the lentil soup, my husband didn't like it, but I thought it wasn't bad. I've only ever gotten pizzas from here as my partner has particular dietary restrictions, but it's very good and not too badly priced. Hands down and consistently equivalent to travelling to Turkey without leaving home, this restaurant really never disappoints. Starting with just walking in, one is immediately welcomed by the staff, which along with appearing very professional, appear to be authentic. One is also graced with seeing the wood fire oven in use, with which all of the delicious food is made. The service is prompt, the food tastes fresh and is made directly in front of the guests. May I recommend for a starter, to try the fresh baked Lavash (in your choice of white or whole wheat) with fresh hummus or Tzatziki as you will be sold on this Eastern European cuisine. While there, one must also try their Turkish coffee, preferably with dessert as the bitterness of the coffee pairs well with the sweetness of the desserts. The coffee is strong but authentic and won't burn a hole through your stomach as it is quality coffee. One caution I will give is not to go for that last sip as you will be greeted with the finely ground coffee grounds. Just a pro tip from having done it a few times :) The prices appears high but the dishes are meant to be shared so when though of it that way, it makes sense and is not excessive. The restaurant is clean and COVID friendly. The ambiance, music and decor lets one imagine they are actually in Turkey. Really I have no complaints and will return every chance I get. read more

The Lavash - is phenomenal. Turkish tea serving is so pretty! Adana kebab: the serving is generous with 2 skewers of kebabs. But..it was a bit dry and not super flavorful. The accompaniments were just odd. Iskender kebab: felt like sliced up shawarma meat. Again, not too special. Kofte Guvech: was bubbling and looked delectable...but again not flavorful. read more

I've been obsessed with Turkish food ever since my trip to Berlin, so imagine my happiness when I found this gem of a restaurant in Burnaby! From the outside, it looks almost suspicious but don't judge a book by its cover, right? There were 5 of us and we ordered meat pide, chicken iskander, doner kebab pizza to share, chicken and mixed kebab plates, and kanafeh for dessert. The meat pide was ok, but the chicken iskander and kebab plates were good! Portion was big, we were stuffed and I felt like throwing up from being too greedy but couldn't resist the kanafeh (which was yum, so you should get!!) read more

* The Turkish breads are still the highlight * I love the various fresh Turkish breads they bake after you order here. They are really the highlight of the menu for me. On my latest meal I ordered the chicken shish platter. The meal started off with a freshly baked Turkish lavash, which came straight from the oven all puffed up to the table (Photo: http://www.yelp.ca/biz_photos/IZazp-g5qBGEUaPkOB-F3w?select=Xn3_3A1GT5ELSfTvMUVczQ). It had nice charring, a few sesame seeds, and came with a soothing yogurt dip. The chicken shish plate itself (which used to be served on pide, but now seems to come with the lavash in advance instead), had nicely seared chicken (which was still juicy on the inside), oven grilled tomatoes, marinated onions, cabbage salad, mixed greens, a spicy pepper, and a generous portion of rice. Overall a very nice meal (although it was plated a bit sloppily). Photo: http://www.yelp.ca/biz_photos/IZazp-g5qBGEUaPkOB-F3w?select=VHzphN7MawkK-c5CZzXzLw I continue to believe this is the best Turkish food in the Vancouver area, and definitely the best Turkish breads. read more

ANTS! I set them ablaze as a kid with a magnifying glass but liked them in A Bug's Life. But they sure don't belong in a restaurant. We waited for a table for a bit and were seated at one by the window near the front. Minutes later I look closely at the window sill and I see ANTS hard at work. Umm.. How does an owner not notice this!! So we moved across the room to a new table. ANTS issue aside (hint: I won't be returning), I will give the following positive feedback: 1st star - fresh lavash bread. Turkish version of naan kind-of. Works well with the provided yogurt dip. 2nd star - baklava. Just the way I like it. Moist and covered with pistachios. They were given to us free as we paid, but that's a small token to pay for having ANTS join us.. The baked meat dishes we ordered weren't cooked enough nor had much flavour. I don't mind dives one bit. But if I want to eat with ANTS I'll go camping.. read more

Turkish food is pretty rare in this city and this place is a real gem. Found Anatolia's Gate randomly a few years ago and have been back several times with friends, family and coworkers. The service is very good and the food is consistently flavourful. This is a great place for groups of at least 4, as you can share the lavish bread and a appie or two (Meat Pied is delicious). My favourite dish is the chicken iskender. It's the most tender and flavourful chicken. The spices are very unique. The portions are quite large and you will definitely not go home hungry. Really anything you order is made fresh, right in the kitchen in front of you. It's an affordable, filling meal. If I lived closer, I would come here more often. The place is family run and the servers and cooks are really nice young guys. Always very polite and professional. read more

Five stars for the lavash alone. No, seriously. If you like bread (and who doesn't? I mean, really.) then you need to come here. We got the ajuka dip with lavash, a mixed kabab and a chicken shish. We went to eat Lahmacun today Wednesday July 5th and the lahmacun was burnt and barely had any meat and tasted like cardboard. When I spoke to the guy he said nothing no apology and did not offer to adjust the bill we paid $40 for 3 bites of it. It was so bad we could not eat it. We will not be going back save your money as they did not care about the quality of their food. We would go there often before but it has gone downhill in 2023? The food got thrown out in the restaurant and we are Turkish so this is a real shame. We also ordered Ayran and it was ok we had to add salt to make it taste better. read more

Take out review. I'll start with the good. The bread. Even though it wasn't hot out of the oven given it was take out, it was still fresh and enjoyable. The rest wasn't great. Had the beef curry, lamb shank, and sausage appetizer. Sausage appetizer: thin slices of cured sausage baked on slices of tomato and lemon, not terrible. Beef curry: dry, small pieces of beef with a bland curry sauce thrown over it. Plain rice, plain greens, and pickled cabbage with not much more then vinegar and salt. There was another bland grated carrot side salad as well, that couldn't distinguish itself from being a proper side salad, or an Indian style carrot halwa, which doesn't do it any justice. Lots of components made the meal as a whole okay, but individually all done without much effort. Lamb shank: same side components so nothing to add there. Lamb shank in itself... I have never seen or tasted a more bland looking and tasting shank. It was tender, that was about it. It was honestly sad to see the negligence put into such a nice piece of meat. Again, the different components combined together save the meal, barely. Also came with a side of yogurt sauce, okay in flavour, but as runny as half and half. Considering I had been there a year before with a much different (positive) opinion of the food, this was disappointing. read more

Anatolia's Gate is probably the only Turkish restaurant in the lower mainland. I've lived in Turkey for a couple of years so I was really excited to try their food. The ambience of Anatolia's is okay but can definitely use improvements. The food is impressive. The fresh bread tasted really good. The price for what we got wasn't really what I was expecting. Back to Anatolia's Gate -- because there was a Meetup there tonight and my friend was interested in Turkish food, so I went with her. If you are in a group, the lavash bread that comes with your meal will also be communal! Meat Lovers Pide ($11.95) Anatolia's Ground Meat, Turkish Pastrami, tomatoes, cheese, egg -Quite small. Rather thin film of mixed meat. Either some spicing to the meat or it was the influence of the Turkish Pastrami. -Not that tasty to me, maybe because there was too little meat. -Meat portion is basically around $8 since the bread portion is probably about the same as a medium lavash bread. Overpriced. -If you don't need the cheese, consider getting the lahmajun instead -- more meat spread over a thin crust, $11.45 Chicken Curry ($14.95) chicken breast chunks with curry sauce, rice, and salads; served with a freshly baked lavash bread and yogurt sauce -The curry here is strong and has some heat, but not too much. Very much not like an Indian curry, if that is what you are hoping for. -The salad of chopped tomatoes and chilies (possibly ezme -- fresh tomatoes, parsley, onion, hot peppers, olive oil) is bitter and very spicy-hot, so watch out! Use the yogurt sauce to clear your palate if necessary -- don't blow it all on the lavash bread even though that tends to come very early. -Not quite as much chicken as pictured in the menu. -Big meal, so-so in taste. Felt maybe slightly overpriced for $14.95 but very filling because of the bowl of rice in the middle. Kofte Guvech ($14.95) Anatolia's Ground Meat balls with oven-roasted veggies, tomato sauce, and cheese baked in oven; served with lavash -Rather firm but still moist meatballs that merged together during baking. -Some sour stuff (pickles?) in the stew. -Looked like a smallish order for price. Service felt polite and attentive. When I sat down, almost right away someone came with water. When there were more of us, they brought over a carafe. read more

Their sides are impeccable - the rice, the salads, the dips, the lavash and even the simplest yogurt dip is the best I have had in town. However their meat is a different story- either they are cooking it till it dies twice ( because it's that dry) or they have cooked it, froze it and microwaved it to order. The marinades are old too because you can taste it when you eat it. The weekends are slighter better I would say but still they are just literally killing those meats, which btw should be star on the plate. It's a shame because with that wood burning oven they can pretty much do anything they want other than just heating sauces and precooked food. read more
