The beet dip and cauliflower are always my favorite. They are both so flavorful and tasty. The beet dip has a bit of an acidic bite to it. The cauliflower is slightly sweet and acidic due to the molasses. The pita was also really good, especially with the dip. I thought it would be too dry for my liking, but it wasn't. read more

This little joint has such good food. Service is great but the tables are so small and so close to each other we felt hurried to finish our dips and appies as more food arrived. While we really enjoyed the food, every bite was wonderful, we wished the table for 2 could accommodate more food or perhaps the dishes could be smaller. I have been to JamJar at UBC multiple times and thought that their commercial drive location would be the same but I was surprised. Unlike the UBC location, this one is a proper dine-in restaurant with drinks and table service. The space is not that big so if it is a group more than 4 people, it can be a squeeze. For drinks I tried their special dou-dou (might be spelling it wrong) but it was essentially a shot which did not taste like alcohol! Also got some other cocktails from there which were all pretty good. Would recommend trying them. For food, we got their vegan platter which came with a lot of bread a good spread of Lebanese dips. All were very good! I would say that their portions are pretty good for the price. We also got their batata hara which was amazing!! This location is barely a 5min walk from commercial broadway station so good location. Would recommend trying this place! read more

Went out for dinner last night with 2 friends and this place was mentioned. Agreed to meet up there and since I haven't been out on the Drive for 2 years, it was good to go out there for dinner. Cute place, rustic decor and inside was clean and bright. We sat outside and pretty much had the patio to ourselves and somehow got forgotten. We ordered the Lebanese feast that they said would feed 2 people and order extra mezzes but no need to. It's $89 for combo of cold mezzes ( hummus, eggplant dip, salad, red pepper dip and little breads) then there was a choice of 5 hot mezzes. We had the starters served first but when we asked about the pita bread we were told it was extra which was weird since the others had their meals with pita bread before but I asked for pita but the sag bread showed up. We had to wait for a long time before the hot dishes showed up and there seemed to be confusion with the dishes since the roast chicken was a chicken leg with veggies and hummus - not quite how it was described. we had to ask for the rice that was part of the feast and an extra knife and fork to cut up and serve the chicken and eggplant steak (1/2 grilled eggplant ) . The potatoes, eggplant and chicken were tasty and well spiced . I think I could eat more potatoes but it was such a small dish! Fried cauliflower was really good. All of the food was beautifully spiced and texture of smooth and crunchy with the dips were great! My real complaint was the slow service as it busy inside and like I said we were forgotten sitting outside. The wait between the hot & cold dishes was too long and I was actually full and took effort to enjoy the rest of the meal. The food is lovely but the wait in between the courses was off putting . I would give it. 4 but the service that night was too spotty for my liking. I will have to come back for lunch next time to try other things. Jamjar makes delicious food, there's no doubt about it. I would definitely eat there again, however their takeout is problematic. We ordered a Jamjar feast a week ago, 7 dishes in all. The food was delicious but it arrived contained in single use fossil fuel-based plastic. How is that even OK these days? It's remarkably tone-deaf considering all we know about the horrors of plastic pollution. It's a shame, but we will never again order takeout from Jamjar restaurant, unless they start serving it in more sustainable packaging. read more

There was no lineup at noon on Sunday. The flavours are good and a twist on your traditional brunch fare. Shakshuka is delicious and the flatbread/toast with it was well-seasoned. Recommend it with touma (whipped garlic sauce). Eggs were done perfectly, not too runny or overcooked. Halloumi benny was also delicious. It makes me wish that it's more of a regular brunch option offered elsewhere. The letdown was that the potatoes and flatbread/toast arrived lukewarm at best. The service is also on the slow side considering what's being served. I would try their dinner/delivery options in the future as the flavours are good but food served lukewarm on both dishes is a letdown. Limited street parking available. read more

It was such a gem place. Hippy style food and service. Its very conveniently located right on the corner . When you enter , Pleasant and casual atmosphere coupled with rejoicing music welcomes you. Delicious and healthier versions of comfort food is available. From the menu, Platter is a must try as you can pick and choose your three starters/appetizers. Plenty of options for vegetarians and meat items like the lamb and kebab is super healthy and delicious at the same time. Hibiscus Lemonade: my favourite drink, it is a popular one that is refreshing and light Lebanese Coke (Tamarind, Soda, Lime) Feature Cocktail: ask your server for their daily rotations Halloumi Fries: deep fried halloumi (semi-hard, unripened cheese made from a mixture of goat's and sheep's milk) topped with pomegranate molasses. Lebanese Poutine: spiced potatoes with halloumi cheese with toum dressing (Toum: whipped garlic sauce). Hummus Trio (Pesto, Original, Za'atar): They have their flavoured hummus on rotation, while the regular is always on the menu. My personal was the pesto hummus, it was rich and creamy and super flavourful. Za'atar hummus was slightly tangy and subtly sweet, which was surprisingly really addictive as well. Makali Mezze: Deep fried cauliflower tossed in pomegranate molasses. It's dark-coloured, but it is not burnt at all. Very nice charred/deep-fried flavour, and the pomegranate molasses adds a layer of subtly sweet flavour. I'd suggest eating it while its hot, as it gets soggy and too saucy over time as the cauliflower absorbs all the sauce. Shish Mezze: Yogurt marinated chicken thighs (garlic, lemon, oregano, spices). Pretty simple chicken dish, but the toum dip on the side is what makes it very delicious. Tabbouli Salad: parsley, onions, tomatoes and bourghul. Generous portion, and is a staple dish. Loved the simple dressing of olive oil and lemon juice. My server Jenny was absolutely delightful, and answered all my questions as I was unfamiliar with Lebanese cuisine! read more

Thankfully, they were super dog friendly and allowed my dog to dine with us in their outdoor seating area. We ordered the chicken shish tawouk, makanik, and halloumi fries. The lamb sausages were interesting to me; not a huge fan but it is not gamy at all. The chicken thighs were delicious with the meat feeling dry or over/under seasoned. Beautiful place for an afternoon hangout. This place has a big bar with variety of drinks. They have seats both inside and outside so you have more options for social distancing these days. They do take reservations but only 5 tables are available for reservations, the rest is for walk-in (first come first serve). So even you called and they cant take your reservations, STILL come and check them out. You are likely to get a seat anyway. Their food looks elegant and taste delicious. The place mostly focuses on vegan food so it means that I can still get one or two meat dish if I want. My friends all love their falafel and voted it to be the best falafel in town. Since this is more tapas style, you will need a lot of dishes to share and get full. We order 5 dishes and a dessert and felt full and happy afterwards. My favourite is their trio-hummus! Some dishes they have are similar to Nuba (grilled cauliflower and halloumi cheese) which I prefer the version at Nuba more. If you are in this area, definitely check this place out! Got some take out from JamJar today to have a picnic with my friend and was very full from the delicious lunch sets that they are offering! For a reasonable price, the falafel set had 3 falafels, a mountain of brown rice, 2 cold mezzes (hummus and eggplant dip), cabbage salad and pita bread! I love middle eastern food and the falafels here did not disappoint! They weren't too oily, were very crispy and tasty yet not salty. The hummus was delicious with the pita bread and the cabbage salad was a good accompaniment as well. One thing I didn't love was the tiny bowl (but that's more of a take out thing) since all of the food got mixed together and you couldn't really tell what you were eating! I also tried my friends cauliflower and although tasty, it was quite oily as well. Overall, delicious food for a reasonable price (not the largest portions but will fill you up!) but be prepared for a meal that is quite oily and heavy. read more

SERVICE - * Our waiter was rude, surly & argued with us over several menu items. YES, the menu specifically said "w/ toasted walnuts" along with the Greek yogurt. However, when it came with neither the waiter vociferously argued that it "never does" . * We were charged $2 for 2 teaspoons of watery, flavorless, bland "harissa" when requesting some hot sauce for my hard, very over "poached" eggs FOOD - * Descriptions of the food on the menu were wonderful. However, portions were miniscule - not even sufficient for an appetizer portion. * The "stuffed apple French toast" was a mini pita "stuffed" with 2 tablespoons canned apple pie filling... We have been coming to Jamjar on Commercial Drive almost since they first opened. We spend our summers in Vancouver , for about 9 years, and also come to Vancouver during the winter. JamJar has always been on a list we have to refer to friends who come to Canada and ourselves when we are here. Sad to say, after all these years, no longer. It seems like they have changed their recipes. Food not as good, drinks weren't as good. Vibe not as good. We really had a disappointing meal and will miss the food we use to have. Continuing my hunt for solid vegetarian eats I finally made my way to Jamjar and I think it's a restaurant that I'd like to continue going to until I've tried every single item on their menu. I love Lebanese flavours. My girlfriend and I arrived on a Saturday with absolutely no knowledge of their menu. If I heard our server correctly, they only offer their Brunch menu on weekends, which was fine for this day. We got the Hot Mezze Sampler and a Benny... can't remember the exact name but the eggs were on a crisp Falafel instead of an English muffin. Hot Mezze Sampler - comes with cauliflower, lentels and beans, potatoes, and falafel. The cauliflower was the best out of all of them and I would love to order a plate of them if it's an option. The "Tripoli to Tyre" for two came in two courses--the first were the cold mezzes, which included olives, makdous (cured baby eggplants stuffed with peppers and walnuts), hummus, muttabel (roasted eggplant dip), mohammara (tomato and red pepper dip), and spinach dip (spinach pureed with tahini). My favorite of these was the creamy, smooth hummus, and everything went nicely with the thin pita bread that came on the side. The second course featured lots of deep-fried components: mujadra, a lentil stew topped with crispy onions; fattoush, a salad of romaine, cucumber, tomato, radish, and pita chips; four falafels; and makali, or deep-fried cauliflower dressed with pomegranate molasses. They have a lot of vegan options, so we decided to order some lunch take-out during the week. We each ordered the vegan sampler lunch bowl ($16 plus tax), which were ready in 15 mins. The sampler is very generous, giving you a taste of many different items, while its centerpiece is the tasty mujadra (a lentil & bean stew with crispy onions on top). Other than that, the colourful plate includes three different dips -- all of which we were a fan of -- a tasty cabbage salad, a piece of falafel, and a few pieces of makali (deep fried cauliflower with pomegranate molasses). They give you a side of quite thin pita bread that was only average. 4.5/5 All in all, we were impressed with the food -- yet another high-quality Middle Eastern restaurant in town. I came for brunch last year and loved it. When looking for a place to go with a couple friends I was quick to suggest we try the dinner. We were SO disappointed, I almost sent my friends an apology text after we left, I felt embarrassed recommending this place. We had looked at the menu online beforehand and had been planning on sharing one of the platters. When we got there the only similar option was the special dineout menu, which did not appeal to us and was more expensive than the regular platter. We asked if they could make us the platter from the regular menu and they said no, it was only available through takeout. Note to restaurant, it would be helpful to update the menu on your website. Instead we ordered a number of dishes to share. The halloumi fries were probably the best of what we ordered, the pomegranate syrup on it was quite nice since the halloumi seemed extra salty. The hummus beyrouti (with beef) was ok, one friend who had something similar before was super excited for this dish but found it bland and disappointing. We also had the beef kibbeh (also very bland and dry with a very hard exterior) which was served in this thin soup type sauce that made sharing less than ideal. The shish tawouk was very garlicky, our table was split on whether we liked this dish. I thought it was ok, far more flavorful than anything else but I wouldn't order it again. We ordered baklava for dessert since I had it last time and was looking forward to it again. It tasted good. Service was some of the worst I've received in Vancouver. Very slow, did not make much of an effort to serve us. The server didn't clear any finished dishes from our table. When our baklava arrived after a long time she asked if we'd like her to clear the empty dishes. We said yes and she was very sloppy almost dumping leftover sauce on my friend's jacket. We were never provided plates or anything to share the dessert with and eventually my one friend got up and helped herself to cutlery. For the price, quality of food and poor service I'd recommend looking elsewhere for Lebanese food. Vancouver has other great options. read more

Jamjar has been at the top of my list for ages and I finally made my way over here last Saturday with two of my girlfriends. They have both indoor and outdoor dining, with a spacious patio as well as an extended patio on the street. Since it was a beautiful afternoon, we opted for one of the picnic tables outside. We were given menus upon sitting, but our server told us that we needed to order at the counter and then they'd bring our food out to us. They have a different menu for lunch and dinner. Their lunch menu consists of a variety of wraps, bowls, and tapas style dishes. My two girlfriends and I opted for a bowl each. For them, the falafel bowl and makanik bowl, for me, the vegan sampler platter. The vegan sampler platter came with falafel, cauliflower, lentil and bean stew, three dip hummus, and pita. Everything was absolutely delicious. All three of us licked our plates clean and were so sad when it was over. I contemplated ordering the same platter to go so I could have it for dinner, ha! Service was really friendly. Decor was bright and welcoming. The food was delicious. I'll definitely be back again soon to try their cocktails and dinner menu. I've been to both locations and find the Commercial Drive location superior. We always get the Shish Tawouk platter as it's super juicy, flavourful and cooked perfectly... at the Granville location, my friends' skewers had multiple burnt pieces that were inedible. The value on this menu item is incredible and it's always a struggle to finish our plates. The hummus is delicious and I love that you can choose your mezze option. Their chickpea salad is also very delish! Finally, that garlic dip with their pita is just mm mm good... I'd eat that every day if I wasn't concerned about serious garlic breath :D read more

I tried to give the benefit of the doubt but ordered several times since summer of 2020 and the food isn't the same. Food: Excellent Service: Good Host: Terrible I love Jamjar's food. I often get them for takeout as I work part time in the neighbourhood. When some girlfriends wanted Lebanese the other night I mentioned trying this place. While the food was incredibly excellent, and our waiter Liam was nice, the host that sat us almost ruined it all. First I walked in @ 17:30 alone asking for a table of 4 and he said 20 minutes. No big deal - I am patient for delicious food. 30 mins later and they sit the table of 3 in front of us but while looking for them he asked our group and when I told him my name and he made a face and said "oh - no." I was sort of put-off by that comment and how it was sort of rude. It was Friday night, it's busy that's cool, I understand so we chatted outside. While the host kept coming out to chat with a friend or other guests he made no effort to update us. When I came inside to check what was going on he kept avoiding me. It was weird. Finally when they sat us down it was at a tiny table made for 2 that he claimed sat 4 ("in Jamjar, we Tetris"). 2 tables (sized for 4) opened up 5-10 mins later - by that time we had only just got our drinks. He made no effort to reseat us and sat a part of 6 and 3 respectively at those tables. The host who sat us needs training on customer service - reasonably timed updates, profuse apologies and acknowledgement would have gone a long way. I'll come back for food and drinks but would only recommend it with a party of 2 - groups are not welcome as they have no technique of how to accommodate them. Several groups of 4-5 bailed cause of the wait! Ironic as mezze plates are meant to be shared. read more

I love this restaurant. We've been coming here for a few years now. They moved in May two doors down onto the corner, a bit bigger and very bright. First time for lunch, I've only been for dinner. We did the "Mezze" tapas style to share. The custom made lamb sausage with seven spice is one of my favorites. And we always order the deep fried cauliflower tossed in pomegranate molasses. The pomegrante is balance perfectly that you get a hint of it so that you are craving more. The best part is the hummus. Love getting the trio with a seasonal one that always changes. I and a friend ordered the the plate of four different hummus portions given with flat bread. My favorite was the spinach as well as the smoky eggplant. I think a bit more bread could be provided with the plate. We also had a sampling of a vegetable plate of which my favorite was the fried cauliflower. Have been ordering almost weekly delivery from Jamjar since discovering it a few weeks ago! Love the many vegetarian options and delicious flavours that come together in many of their dishes. Have found some inconsistency between dishes, for example the halloumi fries have generally been absolutely delicious, but have been dry and with minimal pomegrenate syrup on a few occasions. Despite that, love their fried cauliflower, falafels, halloumi fries and fatoush salad! So so flavourful and delicious! I think while the food is good, most items aren't too filling, and the portion sizes are not big.
