Cute little bakery with Filipino inspired flavors!! I loved this place so much we went TWICE in a 4 day trip! The lines are long but it moves quick. The first time we showed up at opening (~30 min) and the next time we got there 20 min before opening for a slightly shorter wait. There's no indoor seating but they'll pack it up really nicely in a box for you. They're under construction right now (assuming maybe reopening will have seats?) Bibingka ($6.50)-- MY FAVORITE!! It looks so unassuming but it is the perfect mochi+cake texture. There's a guava filling inside. It's just soooo good. Not too sweet where you can easily eat multiple!! Comes with a little banana (?) leaf but just peel it off. Longanisa Croissant ($10)-- SOOOO GOOD! First off, this longanisa doesn't have that bright red dye that you may be used to. They said it's homemade so it's truly pure goodness. Salty, savory umami + super flaky buttery croissant yes yessss. The texture of longanisa is perfect, texture of everything is perfect actually. Plus, having a salty pastry kind of helps cut the sweetness of everything else. Turon Danish ($8)-- CARAMELIZED BANANA + CUSTARD + FLAKY CROISSANT GOODNESS!! Need I say more?? It was perfect. It does lean on the sweeter side but .. that's to be expected of turon. For a truly "less sweet" sweet, go for the bibingka. Ube Oatmeal Cream Pie ($7)-- This one was just ehhhh personally. The ube wasn't strong enough for us. But if you like an oatmeal cream pie this is a great homemade version of that. Better than store bought by a WHOLE lot!! I just wish there was more ube flavor in the cream. Toasted Rice Croissant ($5.75)-- I really thought this was just a fancy name for a regular croissant but NOOO you really smell the toasted rice!! It's like how genmaicha has that toasted rice smell. It's soooo nice. No added taste (like yes it's still plain), but the smell just adds soooo much to the experience. Calamansi Chamomile Bun ($8.50)-- FYI calamansi is a VERYYY sour citrus!! Unlike the other sweet things, this one leans sour!! There's almost like a lemon curd custard inside. You either love it or hate it. I thought it was fine with the other sweets, but definitely wouldn't get it by itself. Pandan Basque Cake ($7)-- This was the only no-go for us. The cake was dry and the cream on top was weak in flavor. The pandan you could smell but couldn't taste. So as a whole it was just like a dry cupcake kind of vibe. Cream puff-- Forgot the price for this one but it was a good cream puff! Was it as "wow" as say turon or bibingka or longanisa? No. But it wasn't bad! Coffee was good! $6 for iced latte and $4 for hot macchiato. Reasonable price, good coffee, no complaints! Waited in line for about 20 mins on a Friday morning, which wasn't too bad. The bakery is sleek, modern, and located in a nice community driven area. I appreciate the gaining traction and exposure for Filipino food and the flavors behind these pastries. Texture wise every pastry was amazing! The longanisa croissant and turon danish were flakey and buttery. The adobo brownie was nice and dense. However, some of the flavor profiles were a bit of a miss for me. The banana flavoring for the turon danish was leaning more towards artificial and the spices in the brownie were interesting/not bad, but definitely an acquired taste for me. My favorite of the baked goods would be the pandan basque cake and ube oatmeal cream pie- good amount of sweetness, overall richness, and balanced in flavor. If you haven't heard already - this place has been all the rage since opening in Ravenswood. I love when the flavors of my culture are put under the spotlight. Be prepared to wait in line! The bakery itself is pretty small. Turon danish: One of my favs! Turon is already one of my fav filipino desserts so I knew this would be a hit. Highly recommend. Adobo brownie: This one is very unique. I was very curious how they were going to incorporate adobo into a dessert. According to the website, they infuse the brownie batter with bay leaves to obtain the unique flavor. The richness of the brownie pairs well with the saltiness. Longanisa croissant: So good! Inside had a longanisa meatball. It was surprising to find the meatball a normal meat color opposed to the vibrant red that longanisa usually comes in. No red 40 here!!! Calamansi chamomile bun: If you like sour/tart desserts, this pastry is for you. Good but not my fav. Ube oatmeal cream pie: Yum! The cream is super light. Del Sur is a cute, trendy bakery in Uptown. No seating, counter service only. We got there at 930am on a Saturday morning and the line was about 50 people deep. That said, the line moved relatively quickly. We waited about 30 minutes. I got a salted Pandan iced latte. Perfectly good cup of coffee. Very smooth. We ended getting pretty much two of everything for the four of us to try. Most were good to very good. The calamansi bun and longinsa croissant were the standouts. INCREDIBLE! We came in close to closing and were worried that they would be out of parties esp since as we arrived we saw a line out the door. When we walked in, it was moving quickly! We loved seeing so many different cook books featuring Filipino recipes as we waited. When we got to the front, we ordered one of basically everything. The seasonal bread, get it. Don't ask questions you're going to love it no matter what. This particular one was leeks and whatever not and I'm still thinking about it. Some of the best pastries I have ever had!! The inside is beautiful as well. We got the turon danish, longanisa croissant, seasonal hand pie, coconut rhubarb milk bread, and the pandan basque cake. The turon danish was my favorite and the banana flavor was perfect. The rhubarb milk bread was also super soft, filled with cream and jam, and such a pretty color! It was a bit tart and the coconut flavor wasn't strong. I also got an iced latte with caramelized honey syrup, yum. We came here on a Saturday around 10am. There was a line outside the door that took about 30 minutes. They open at 8am but they do not sell out. They are continuously baking and restocking the case with their offerings for that day. This is a very small counter bakery. There's no seating and there's usually a line. Luckily they will be expanding soon! I recommend you go on a week day to avoid long lines. While I was standing in line they came out with mini version of their pastries with paper and palate and utensils which is so thoughtful. Inside host was super helpful in making selection. When we finally got there we joined the line and it took about 30-40 minutes to get inside, so I'd recommend grabbing a snack beforehand. The inside is cute and was decorated for Valentine's Day. Del Sur hype is real! I grabbed a box of pastries for my friend and got to try the longganisa croissant, which was a total party for my taste buds! The croissant flakey texture and layers were perfect and the longganisa sausage was delicious and not overly sweet. For me personally, I would like the salt dialed down as I'm sensitive to it, but for general population, it's balanced. I arrived at 10:50am and there were about 11 people ahead of me (outside the front door) and about 8-10 (inside). I was out the door under 30 min later at 11:18am with my box of pastries. If you want a hand crafted drink, then you might wait longer. I recommend arriving earlier because one pastry type was already sold out by 11am and the line was super long wrapped around the block after I arrived. Staff are super friendly and happy to explain anything. I want to suggest to them to allow for prepaid online ordering like Kasama does so customers and pre-order and pay online so they can just walk in and pick up their baked goods. Instead of asking staff to explain to every customer on every baked item that is labeled with ask staff what the flavor special is, have that info ready at the face of the door with pictures so customers are ready to order when at the register. Both these items can speed up the queue. The location is great for public transport users: right in front of #50 Damen bus stop and right next to the Damen Brown Line entrance. Parking is a total PITA and difficult to find, so I recommend parking a few blocks farther away and walk. read more

Been wanting to try this place for months! The lines are usually very long. But the wait paid off! Had to wait for about 5 minutes. Got the caramelized honey matcha and some sort of croissant with lemon cream filling. I'm not a big fan of matcha usually but this one was amazing. The lemony croissant was a small cloud of heaven. Definitely worth the 30 minute wait on a freezing (for me) early morning. Del Sur Bakery is a Filipino inspired bakery that produces some delicious baked goods. The calamansi chamomile bun is muffin like croissant with buttery layers and sugary top. Inside is a calamansi (Southeast Asian lemon/orange) custard. Honestly, I didn't taste any chamomile but I'm assuming it was somewhere in the mix to lessen the tang of the calamansi. Topped with a slice of lime. Yes, lime. I'm assuming the calamansi fruit is hard to get in the Midwest. I like most things pandan. So, I had to get the Pandan Basque cake. Basque cake is more like a soft buttery cookie with consistency of a thick oatmeal cookie but without the oats. It's hard to describe. Kasama, another bakery, not too far away has something similar but with ube. On top is a pandan cream with a dallop of raspberry jam. This one I'll remember for some time since it's unique ito my eating experience. Since the day was early, I wish I could try other items but I had a full day's worth of eating. The other notable pastries: turon Danish, longanisa croissant, coconut croissant, toasted rice croissant, bibingka where on my eye. Really quaint, beautifully decorated, tasteful bakery and cafe. They sell hats, cook books, and pins inside the shop. It's definitely a bit pricey but everything from the baked goods to the coffee/tea drinks are all masterfully made. My husband got an ube iced coffee which he says is his favorite way to drink coffee now. I tried the ube matcha which wasn't too sweet and the ube flavor was subtle and blent well with the matcha. We came in the morning around 10:30 am and there was a small line inside the shop. This is more of a takeout place, and if you don't get drinks you'll be in and out within 15 min. For the baked goods, the basque cake really stood out to me. The fluffy creamy top was a little salty which paired well with the pandan flavor and cake. We followed that with the savory croissant longonisa. The croissant is a layered, buttery smooth croissant. Not bread-like, as most grocery or bakery croissants. I do suggest you eat it fresh from the oven (otherwise heat it at home) bite into the sausage and the experience is sublime - enjoy that moment - wait - then bite again as your tongue begins to fully process the complex flavors. This one pastry is imparting to your brain receptors just how good it is and bang! Your mind just told you - quite possibly the best sausage croissant pairing ever! We did also have the adobo galette and the seasonal meringue tart. Both good, especially the tart, they just didn't blow my mind. The pandan latte is a must try, for the uninitiated. It's slightly sweet - trust me it's good, it's green - do it. The staff is super chill and judging by the looks, local. I do have one gripe. After they take your order on the counter they flip it for the tip. It starts at 15% and tops at 25%. 20 to 25% is what I tip at full service restaurants- not bake shops where they hand you what you point at or make your coffee. You're telling me their labor is as extensive as a server say at Wilde (Lakeview) on Broadway or Calo (Andersonville) on Clark or any other full service restaurant? If you've seen Del Sur on social media and wondered if it's just hype like me, I can confidently say it's worth the travel to Ravenswood to give it a try. Each 3 pastries I ordered were fantastic. Similar to other trendy bakeries there is no indoor seating which admittedly sucks especially if you're paying ~7$ per pastry, but the quality of them makes up for it. Texture, level of sweetness, were both perfect. While small, the space is cute and the staff are friendly. Good grab-and-go set up. I hear comparisons vs Kasama frequently but I think that'll come down to personal preference. read more

GO EXPERIENCE DEL SUR!! Everything I've had from here is delicious and lining up is part of the experience (worth the wait). My sister has it down to a science as far as lining up and we bring a folding chair for my niece so she experiences the line (especially since my niece originates the requests for the bakery items here). The "science" my sister figured out lets us be the first ones in the door - we usually have a game-plan in place as far as the regular staples, but sometimes we have to make some quick decisions after seeing a seasonal/weekend special. The staff are so friendly, I'm sure it's been crazy having to deal with lines and all the Instagram popularity, but since we usually have a game-plan in place, we know exactly what we want and we move through the line pretty fast (especially since we are usually the first in the door ;)). The reception area is small- so that's why the line goes out the door, but it is pretty orderly. No place to sit down so take away and plan accordingly. The brown line Ravenswood stop is very convenient if you are a train taker, but (hot tip) if you go early enough in the morning, street parking is easy. I've only been inside the bakery once, but have enjoyed the treats from here more than once (I just didn't' get up early enough - my sister does not wait... it's part of the science of getting to be the first in line). I had heard good things about Del Sur from friends and decided to try it out on a Sunday afternoon since we were in the area. The line was out the door and my small child bent over and tucked her whole body into her jacket to stay warm but she said it was worth it. I had the Chinese matcha (matcha sourced from China). They also offer ube, salted pandan, dark mocha, and caramelized honey syrups for their drinks. The matcha was pretty good but wasn't my favorite matcha latte in Chicago. Del Sur was an Instagram discovery for me and it lived up to the hype! I love Filipino food and we don't have very many options where I live, so I was excited to learn about this Filipino bakery that's only open Thursday through Sunday, 8 am-3 pm. Nate and I were in Chicago for a work trip so I knew we had to try to get in line before they opened on Thursday. When we arrived at 7:55 am there were about ten people in line, and the doors opened right around 8 am. They were great about managing the line and giving suggestions, as well as being patient and letting us ask questions. I'd done my research, so I knew I wanted to the longanisa croissant and the turon pastry. We also ordered the ube oatmeal cream pie and the tahini zucchini muffin, as well as a couple coffees. The team was efficient and super polite, and we had our order quickly and went outside to sit on the bench and dig in. Note that there is no seating inside and seating options nearby are quite limited. I think we were technically at a bus stop, but we ate quickly! The longanisa croissant was incredible and my favorite. The flakiness was perfection, it was slightly sweet (but not too sweet!) and the sausage was delicious. I also really liked the turon pastry - also super flaky and not too sweet. The ube oatmeal cream pie looked very tasty but I felt that the cookies overwhelmed the ube flavor. For the locals and those visiting from out of town, this is a MUST even if you have to go out of your way just for this. The Longanisa pastry was everyone's favorite by far - the perfectly seasoned meat wrapped in the FLAKIEST puff pastry was so enjoyable. If you want something sweeter the Calamansi was the next favorite with the perfect balance of tart and sweetness. You can't go wrong with any of their desserts. Everything was amazing and mind blowing. The Ube Crème pie was two oatmeal cookies that sandwiched the lightest Ube crème and no flavors were too overbearing. All the flavors complement each other so well Get there EARLY - line already starts forming before 8. Del Sur lived up to the hype! Such unique, fresh, delicious pastries. We pretty much got one of everything and enjoyed every bite! Daily specials that will run out fast, so get there early! Very small storefront. No where to sit, grab and go. Waited in line for about 20 minutes at 11:00 on a Saturday. read more

Went there on a Saturday morning and lined up for about 30 mins. The place is fairly small but packed with yummy goodies. No seating area but you see people leaving with boxes of the delicious treats. We ordered the turon, longganisa, calamansi pastries plus adobo brownie, food of the gods and the oatmeal Ube cookie. I would highly recommend any of the pastries (the first three items). They know how to bake them - flaky, with the right combination of flavors. The last three I would say are one and done - glad we tried them but not a big fan of. There were also different coffee drinks but we are not coffee drinkers sos didn't try any. Can be a bit pricey but fairly comparable to other niche type bakeries. Lots of street parking and close to the brown line. Friendly staff and good service. Will definitely go back! read more

Finally got to check out this Filipino bakery and it did not disappoint! I was able to get in easily with no lines on a cold Sunday before noon. The interior is quaint and stunning at the same time. I ordered the red jade hot tea, Turon danish, longanisa croissant, calamansi chamomile bun, and a seasonal passionfruit pastry. The food was prepared quickly in a large box. I absolutely loved the calamansi chamomile bun and the longanisa croissant the most because it had the most authentic Filipino flavors. Del Sur has quickly become one of my favorite Filipino Bakeries! I stopped by last Sunday and highly recommend the Longanisa Croissant, Pandan Basque Cake, and Seasonal Hand Pie. The Sweet Garleek Pain Suisse was incredible -- I wish it were a regular menu item instead of just collab! Lines aren't nearly as hectic as they used to be, but I still suggest going early since they're only open thur-sun. Just note there's no seating --it's more of an order-and-go bakery. read more

Del Sur is such a treat! I'm so happy because I finally got to visit Del Sur Bakery & took home a bunch of baked goodies back to Denver. My favorite from my pastry haul would probably be the Turon Danish- very decadent and just the right amount of filling! The adobo brownie was an interesting treat.. I imagined that the adobo would overpower the dessert as if I'm eating chicken or pork adobo but it's very subtle! It's a small bakery so prepare to wait in line! I got there 30 mins prior to opening. But even then, I had to wait a good 10-20 mins in line to get inside. I was able to park right outside the bakery but what's good about it too .. it's accessible by the L Train (Brown Line), just hop off at Damen! The decors and interiors were so pretty. Stopped by Del Sur recently and left with mixed feelings. The place is beautifully designed and has a trendy vibe, but the experience didn't quite justify the price point. Some of the pastries were really well done -- flaky, fresh, and flavorful -- while others were not up to my liking, especially given how expensive everything was. I was especially disappointed with the Pandan latte. It sounded interesting on the menu but ended up not having a strong present in the latte. Definitely wouldn't order that again. Overall, Del Sur is worth a visit if you're curious or looking for an aesthetic spot, but manage your expectations and be selective with what you order.
