I usually don't mind a wait for a restaurant. It means a lot of people are eating there and if other people are waiting, it's probably well worth it. That was the case yesterday when we arrived at DeJa Vu. There was a 30 minute wait for brunch, which was a good sign for me. Call for reservations if you're not patient. We waited in the café, which was clean and cute and warm. Their pastries look fresh and amazing, but we were saving our appetites for mains. We were sat fairly quickly and ordered our meals. (Two brick house omelettes, a kids plate of pancakes, corned beef hash and a French dip). When I asked about the potato salad, the waitress didn't know because she didn't like onions but said if I didn't like it, I could switch for free. Our entrées were all exceptional. Best French Dip I've ever had. I remember liking them when I was a kid; in fact the only thing I used to order for DeJa Vu when I went as a child was the French Dip. It was better than I remembered. We are visitors from Utah. Our waitress did not check in as we waited for our food for 45 minutes and watched five tables around us receive their food even when we put in our order first. My favorite place for breakfast or lunch in Redding never disappoints! We went again on Saturday and I must say if you have never experienced Deja Vu you really need to go, from the decadent blended mocha we order every week to the best breakfast hands down you will love it! The atmosphere, the service and the food make this a place we are willing to stand in line for if needed plus it is all housed in the historic Lorenz Hotel downtown. when i'm hungry, my stomach becomes this monster machine and i think i can eat the whole world. apparently not. woke my bf up to grab something here before we head out hiking, and some surprises. my crazy stuffed (bacon, sausage, potatoes, peppers, mushrooms) omelette and smothered with sausage gravy..even as i type this i wonder how i could have ordered this beast...it needed some seasoning. the home fries on the side with sauteed onions were delectable. and i ordered a biscuit. i thought it might have been frozen or something, but as soon as this housemade and perfectly baked creation came out, it was incredible. spread on a little butter, heaven. the bf got the roast beef au jus dip with a mixed salad w/ a vinaigrette. this sandwich salad combo was totally enjoyable, slighty salty. read more

While you're waiting to be seated you can wait in the Deja Brew, Deja Vu's coffee shop. The food is delicious and high quality. This is the restaurant I go to every week with my family. read more

The place is always so busy and the staff try as they might just can't keep up. AND there's never any place to park, unless you want to park blocks away. There's a point where it just isn't worth the wait no matter how good the food is. I want to eat, not walk 10 minutes, being hassled by homeless and creepy bums, then stand outside for 45 minutes. Full review: Truth be told, we were in that neck of the woods looking for the new Savory Spoon location (they were closed) when my trusty YELP app lead us around the corner to Deja Vu and boy oh boy, are we glad it did! To be fair we were there on Monday at 10:00 AM so I imagine the traditional breakfast crowd had already eaten and gone, but the restaurant was still abuzz with patrons. This is a good sign. Giant plates of sumptuous looking food passed our table as we eyed the extensive (and well rounded) menu. We settled on breakfast fare and were quickly served a ginormous plate of hashbrowns, eggs, ham with a side of pancakes just to round out the meal. The waitress quipped "Can I get you anything else? A second stomach, maybe?" Now I am not one to choose quantity over quality, but when you find a place that offers both, you have found a real gem! They have a cozy and comfortable atmosphere, great food and prices, and their specialty coffees are amazing! Every time I go, I always have the best service, the staff really take care of you. Great place for breakfast--extensive menu, it's sometimes difficult to choose. Hearty portions, great omlettes and potatoes. The jalapeno bacon is where it's at. I like the atmosphere; the high backs on the booths give your party more privacy if you're lucky enough to be seated in one. The only bummer: there is usually ALWAYS a wait. My wife and I have driven by this place many times and decided to give it a try this last Sunday morning. We arrive about 9:50 to find several people on the list ahead of us. We waited about twenty minutes before being seated and noticed quite a number of people walking in to join others already there. (Tip: Drop someone off to get your name on the list, then park on the street, if a spot is available, or in the public lot across the street.) We were finally seated in a large booth in the back and our jaws dropped when we noticed there was a large group of 14 just across from us looking at menus while they gabbed. Our waitress was kind enough to take our order first. I ordered chicken fried steak and my wife had a California omelet. The were both perfect and their cooks know how to do hash browns just right. The chicken fried steak was tender enough to cut with a fork. GREAT MEAL. This is now our favorite breakfast place in town. I absolutely love this place. The waitresses are awesome and the service is equally as great. While waiting for a table there is a waiting area where you can become aquatinted with some of the most lovely people in all of Redding. And in the back there is an old style Victorian coffee shop that has the best most heart warming coffee and cappuccino's :) The family that owns it takes part in running it as well which gives it the most family friendly environment. Great service, great ambiance, and the biscuits are awesome! We were just driving through, but we would definitely go back if we were in the area. You have to be in the mood for a bit of a greasey spoon, but there is a wide variety of food and novelty coffee drinks. Anytime we are out of town, we try and find a cool local restaurant and try their biscuits and gravy. Some are just okay, and most are pretty good.. But this place, hands down, is the best biscuits and gravy we have ever had. Biscuits are HUGE and wonderful. Perfect combination of fluffy and doughy. Gravy is awesome too. The chicken fried steak is also pretty dang awesome. One of the best I've ever had. The only part of our meal that wasn't great was the omelet. It was more like a scrambled egg taco with some meat inside. No problem though.. Well worth the half-hour wait. The hash browns are stupendous. The "sea food benny" was just outstanding. We live in the Bay Area, and we will never again pass through Redding without stopping here. Was in Redding with my husband for the weekend and decided to try this place out. They have a coffee shop attached to the restaurant, so you can order any of the drinks from there to enjoy with your food. The staff is really friendly and our server Heather was amazing. My husband has dietary restrictions and so going out to eat at new places can be daunting. Heather made sure she wrote his order down exactly right and it came out perfect. We both thoroughly enjoyed our breakfasts. I recommend the Belgian waffle with apricot syrup. The scrambled eggs were fluffy and delicious too. My family had indoor brunch today. The food and service was good. Please take note that some staff were not wearing mask. While I understand California is soon to be lifting mandated mask rule on June 15th, I was a bit uneasy not seeing all staff wearing mask whereas other restaurants still have staff doing it. Easily among the better breakfast places in town. The food is consistently on point. The service is great, some days it can be a tad slow (likely due to the popularity of this spot). Omelets are great, recently ordered a chicken fried steak sandwich which was also great. Whenever we have guests in town we make it a point to take them here.
