Deerfields Bakery baked the best wedding cake for us. Initially, we were working with a different bakery in the area that became unresponsive and difficult. Our venue recommended Deerfield. As we walked in for our tasting, they told us to order whatever coffee we wanted off of the menu. We then sat down with Sheila, who went over the basics and then left us to the tasting. She gave us advice when requested, but she didn't pressure us into anything. She was very responsive from our tasting to the wedding. Our cake came out beautifully and exactly as we requested. A couple of the guests came up to us and said that it was the best wedding cake that they had ever had. We are so glad that we chose to order our wedding cake from Deerfields! read more

I frequent the Deerfield's Bakery in Schaumburg and am happy to report that this original location is just as amazing! My friend got some donuts & assorted breakfast pastries for us yesterday and they were just delicious! I swear Deerfield's has some of the best frosting on their donuts around. THEY make one of the best cakes in this area, my family has been ordering from this store for 20+ years, and never been disappointed, plus we really did try each cake on their menu. They do a phenomenal job decorating the cake, and they really care about their customers and make sure to make them happy. The prices are very reasonable as well, for the expertise of their staff. The one thing I'll recommend to the staff is to seem approachable when customers walk into the store, rather than going about their own work, it comes off very rude and not appealing to customers. I've ordered several cakes for various occasions and they have never failed me. They are quick, efficient, and priced well. I ordered a three tier cake for my birthday and paid $180 where as other bakeries wanted double for price for the same design. They also create seasonal cakes that are made and ready for pick on. In case you want to order a cake for your friend and have it be delivered on her birthday, DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE!!! Run, far far far away. I called yesterday to ask if it was possible to do a last-minute same day delivery as my mind slipped and forgot to order something ahead of time for my friend. Luckily, my friend happens to live in the same town as the bakery and the customer service person, Linda, was happy to accommodate. After speaking with her, Linda was Happy to accommodate after speaking with the owner to send out a cake that was in the shop ready to go (a previous canceled order) anytime yesterday. The fact that I wasn't even picky about flavor,color, etc helped, you would think? No. She called me back after speaking with the owner again confirmed a time for delivery. She called me back a couple of hours later apologizing that the owner was running behind, but he is decorating the cake now and it will go out 100% today. I thought everything was fine until it was strange that I didn't hear from my friend all day. Waking up today, still no thank you message from my friend... A little weird. I called Deerfields and guess what? Apparently they decided that they didn't wanna let me know that the owner didn't feel like delivering/doing his job/was busy with other things/I don't really care . The girl on the flip phone claim she called me twice but considering I've been up earlier than the bakery was open and I'm in a different time zone, my phone has been on I've gotten other calls and she certainly did not call me nor do I have any proof or indication. Regardless even if she did try to call me what's the purpose of calling me today if you were supposed to get it delivered yesterday? She has no idea what happened and the only reason she was calling me was to let me know that they were planning on delivering it today. She didn't apologize, give a shit etc. It didn't even phase her considering she was also taking another order in person as I heard through the phone and was quick to rush me off the phone and say that someone will call me back on Monday. TLDR: ordered a cake for same-day delivery, got charged about $70 ($20 in fees alone), was reassured by owner and customer service MULTIPLE TIMES that cake would be delivered by end of day, cake wasn't delivered, nobody called to tell me they fucked up or to apologize, and I'm out $70 and a friend that didn't get a 30th birthday cake from me. read more

Someone brought our office doughnuts from here today. The donuts all looked really good. I tried 3 kinds, and all of them were good. Red velvet: amazing, and I'm not a fan of red velvet. My first time walking into Deerfield Bakery felt as if I stepped into a game of Bakery Story (iPhone Game, google it). You are overwhelmed by the stunning and tasty-looking pastries, cakes, cookies, and doughnuts gleaming over the counter. I have to admit that I forgot that I came here to meet up a friend for lunch because I was lost in admiration at each pastry. Also I even debated skipping lunch and diving into dessert, but I am glad I didn't. Deerfield Bakery offers a great breakfast and lunch menu. The breakfast is nothing out of the ordinary, consisting of breakfast sandwiches, breakfast burritos, omelettes, french toast, and pancakes. The lunch menu offers salads, sandwiches, and soup. All the ingredients that is provided seems fresh, and the portions are great. I would say this is probably the best place to eat when you want to go for something "fresh" and "healthy," which is very difficult to find when eating out. However, I guess when you make room for a dessert pastry afterwards; this defeats the whole purpose of eating out "healthy." The lunch always leaves my stomach feeling pretty full, but I never fail to buy a pastry or two to take home. I agree that the doughnuts are a bit pricey, but the price from breakfast/lunch menus are great, and you pay less than $10 for lunch. I will note that I took one star away for the confusing set up for newcomers. I guess you get used to it but I don't understand why you make your lunch order at one stations and you have to walk 9 feet to a different counter to pay for your meal. Also I wish the staff was a bit more helpful in assisting their customers. They never fail to appear unavailable or unapproachable even when they are merely walking pass their customers. At least ask "are you doing okay?" if you see a customer standing in front of the pastry counter for awhile. Overall, I like Deerfield Bakery. It has become my favorite place to eat during my lunch break. I find myself daydreaming at work in the morning about what new item will I try at my next visit. read more

Have been in here 3 separate times including this morning, walked out empty handed this time when staff did not ask me if they could help me for behind the counter selections this was the 3rd time. This time they did not have the specific coffee cake l came in for to start with like the last two times when I did self serve selections and did not get the behind the counter selections due to staff being inattentive. I hadn't come in since the Covid-19 pandemic began, but I did the other day and was horrified to see that all the pastries were still in the open air, buffet-style, uncovered, exposed to the air. Every time someone stays by us, Deerfield bakery is the default breakfast.And every time I get sent there, I'm told to only get a handful. And I always end up with two boxes of donuts and pastries for 3-5 people. I feel like a kid every time I walk into the store. A fat, annoying, eyes bulging little kid. Think Agustus Gloop. Aside from the counter of cupcakes and chocolates, the refrigerated cases of cakes, and the drawers of bagels, Deerfield has two buffet-style lines of counters with donuts & pastries, with box-bottoms below encouraging you to fill more than one. They also have a made-to-order breakfast sandwich/burrito area, a coffee station, and specialty cakes. We ordered a buttercream frosting santa cake for Christmas this year, and it tasted every bit as rich as it looked. My 3 year old nephew wouldn't stop talking about Santa's butt. No qualms giving Deerfield 5 stars, particularly because they held the cake for me for same day pickup on Dec. 23rd. read more

Ordered a cake online for my mother's 85th birthday. I could have gone to Mariano's but decided that for this special event I would order from a dedicated bakery. What a mistake. The cake was encased in a one inch thick layer of buttercream making it way too sweet for human consumption. The cake (sponge) was dry and flavorless. And I was charged $45, twice what I could have ordered from Mariano's (which would have been better quality). I served the cake and watched my family members scoop the sponge off the barrier of buttercream. Every plate came back with a huge gob of buttercream on it. Not only did I not receive any compliments on the cake, nobody wanted to take any home. I went to the bakery in Buffalo Grove to lodge a complaint. The assistant manager (don't know where the manager was) said I had to bring the cake in. Eyeballing the remainder of the cake would not tell her how poorly it tasted. She was trying to obfuscate the issue as I was requesting restitution for their over-priced bakery block. The cake was cut up and frozen and I refused to jump through this unnecessary hoop. I tried to call Deerfield's main number only to get bounced around their voicemail system without the ability to talk to a human being. I also emailed customer support and did not get a response. What really gets my goat was that I wanted to make this a day to remember for my mother who does not have many birthdays left. Too bad the memory she will have will be that of a lousy, expensive cake. So don't buy anything at Deerfields unless you want over-priced, low quality baking goods with poor customer service. read more

Let me begin by saying I'm not a big sweets person, so I have nothing to add in terms of the actual bakery other than being extremely aesthetically pleasing. When you first walk in, you can't help but be immersed in the decadent smell. It's amazing. And if you're into baked goods, you're in heaven. I came here for lunch and ordered the chicken Caesar salad with a cup of chili. I should have taken the hint when the cashier asked if I wanted extra dressing. Yes. Yes you do. Which is a testament to both the size of the salad and the size of the dressing cup. The salad is big and as a nice twist, comes with a large amount of shredded chicken. It was delicious, though I wish I would've went back for the extra dressing. The salad also came with a small roll from their bakery which looked delicious but did not eat. The cup of chili was good, but if you don't like kidney beans, pass on this. I love beans and it was borderline too many, even for me. Lastly, I ordered a 16 oz organic energy smoothie. It was ok. Tasted like I didn't need any more sugar for the next couple weeks. My gripe here is that you eat with plastic cutlery. Which wouldn't have been an issue if I didn't have such huge chunks of shredded chicken on my salad. My total for this lunch was $16ish. As luck would have it a couple days ago I checked out Deerfield's website interested to try their doughnuts as I have never had their doughnuts before and saw today is National Doughnut Day! 50 cent doughnuts, limit 12, and quantities limited. This was the perfect time to try out their doughnuts and I arrived as soon as they opened. I picked a whole bunch of varieties chocolate sprinkles, Apple, powdered, double chocolate, and glazed. On my way to check out I was drooling over the pineapple upside down cake and the cake I grew up ALWAYS getting here their chocolate chip coffee cake.....YUM! I had to stay focused on what I was there for which was the doughnuts, but gosh darn it I was distracted again by seeing a smoothie board while standing in line to check out. Red velvet and tiramisu smoothies?! They use real cake pieces in these!!! Get out of here! Seriously?! Back to the doughnuts....I arrived back at home and had one.....these doughnuts ROCK!!! Top quality, great tasting chocolate frosting and so fresh! I have a usual go to 5 star doughnut joint and I hate to say it but Deerfield's surpassed them! Who would've thought?! I can totally see myself coming back here again this summer and enjoying their outdoor patio area. I would love to bring the dog with and will call to find out if this is an option. So, you know that first big scene in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory? The one where the little group is introduced to the landscape of sweets - chocolate waterfalls, whipped cream mushrooms, edible flowers? If Willy Wonka were a pastry man? His Wonkaland would be Deerfields. As you walk into this huge bakery, you're instantly greeted with trays of beautifully iced seasonal cookies (this weekend they were Superbowl and Valentine's Day themed). Glass cases gleam at every turn, filled with cupcakes, petit fors, amazing cakes of every kind (from cannoli cakes and strawberry shortcakes, to traditional birthday cakes, to fun over-the-top fondant and buttercream masterpieces), bagels, danishes, croissants, italian cookies, rice krispie treats, dipped pretzels...the list goes on and on. Two big islands in the middle showcase the amazing donuts and other coffee cakes and muffins, each more tantalizing than the last. We circled the place for at least 10 minutes before deciding on what we wanted for breakfast. They even have a case of gluten free items, and some frozen things you can take and bake. They serve a more standard breakfast as well, skillets and omelettes and french toast, etc., and also have hot lunch options during that time of day. The staff is quick, efficient, and attentive. The place is clean and welcoming and huge, and there are a good amount tables situated behind the cash registers to sit and enjoy your meal or snack. If my stomach (and wallet) had endless capacity, I would have tried every single thing there. Prices are incredibly reasonable (and they often have day-old coffee cakes and muffins on the shelves beneath the islands for even cheaper), but there is just SO MUCH it's hard to know where to start. We ended up with a King Cake (which is what we travelled there for), and some donuts (my husband's strawberry donut was STUNNING, I had the red velvet, and it was good, but the cream cheese frosting was too much for me personally). I'm sure we'll be making this a regular stop before big events, and on special weekends! My sister stopped in to pick up some pastry for work and was surprised at the state of the bakery. Cases where product should have been were only half full. Very few varieties of bagels. Very little staff was available. The cafe area seemed to be closed. This bakery was always crowded and busy. Things were fully stocked most of the time. While the staff was not very friendly and sometimes cranky in the past they at least had product to sell and the services the building offered, i.e..cafe and sandwich area, were open and able to serve. I've read other reviews here and the good ones are mostly 2 years old. It's sad that a bakery that is such a wonderful facility and in an area where people would patronize it if they got good product and service has fallen to such mediocrity. I used to enjoy going there. It was one of the very few bakeries in the area. With the reviews I read and my sister's experience today I don't see going back any time soon. Management/ownership has to make some big changes to bring this place back to the place it once was. I'm sorry to hear it has fallen to what it is now. read more

Thought I would give this bakery another try after staying away for almost two years. I can't believe this, but it is now dirtier than the last time I was there. I'm surprised I didn't see bugs crawling around. The tables were absolutely filthy as well as the floor with old food littered all over. The area where the milk, cream and sugar is located was disgusting. The cafe where the hot food is made was closed due to so called "reconstruction." Yea, right. I think ICE made some major deportations and the lack of help is apparent. Additionally, the cashiers need to liven up their personalities. This is Mom's go to for donuts. It's close to Mom's house My hubby who was in as well wanted to go for donuts for breakfast . I Had the classic glaze donut &cheese danish. Hubby had the coconut & his chocolate cake donuts( his 2 favorites ) Mom had the apple turnover & chocolate danish with nuts. Donuts are fresh. The cafe is closed in April as they are remodeling. So no eggs or toast. Coffee is so so. here. Everything looked great and was very reasonably priced. They even called me to confirm that they had everything correct on the order of the time before making the cakes. First thing's first: This is the most overpriced bakery you're ever going to find. You'd think they mill their own special flour with the ridiculous, home-grown beef sort of pricing. The service for the bakery section is terrible. If you're stopping in for a bite to eat, you'll get better service in the dining area. But this is a bakery and the employees should be bending over backwards to sell their expensive goods. Instead, the ladies behind the counter shrink away to the back of the building when a customer dares to approach. It's total self-service out there until you get to the cashier. The baked goods themselves are not worth the price at all. I just spent $33 on two boxes of butter cookies that had no date on them. Half the cookies are stale and a couple of the broken ones look like they were bitten. I should have learned my lesson the last time I came here, when I bought a loaf of pumpkin bread that ended up actually being cranberry. Overrated and overpriced with worse customer service than the DMV. Steer clear. read more
