Cheap! That defines this place. I had paid for a pick up order on DoorDash and one of the helpers gave me my order after seeing my receipt. Then I went to my car and as I was about to drive away, a cheap old man who I think is the owner came running out asking if I paid. Best vegetarian restaurant in the area, I love their weekend buffets specially Rajsthani on third weekend.

Apparently "deedee" in Hindi means "little sister". Not sure how that's relevant to the food perhaps the food's prepared by someone's little sister? Perks about this restaurant is that it's pretty much as authentic as it gets in these necks of the woods. Also, cuisines from different parts of India are featured each weekend depending on the weekend of the month. This weekend's feature was west India. Foods included a potato with eggplant dish, a chickpeas dish please excuse the French. And several other variations of vegetarian foods. The food was excellent and not too pricey. It helped that my date, who's Indian, was able to explain and introduce all the different foods to me. Would love to be back. read more

I feel bad writing this review as their food is decent for vegetarian audience. But the lady serving the thali and also the cashier is extremely rude and unwelcoming. She was trying to give me palak paneer which had no paneer and only palak. I questioned it and she very arrogantly lied to me. Finally I had to tell her I won't accept the meal if the vegetable has only palak gravy left. I'm surprised at the low rating of this place. This genuinely is a great home style Indian food my family and I have been enjoying for years. Not a Michelin star experience, but an authentic and a great value. Love their parathas, shrikand, and all the veggie curries. Concur with recent reviews from a lot of folks - That this place is a shadow of what it used to be! Pre-pandemic, the buffets were amazing value for money with 2 chats included (And decent tasting ones too); Shrikhand, Puran Poli, Sabudana vada etc. were great. But the current buffet seems overpriced for what is on offer, and the taste is not up to the mark either. And I miss some of those familiar smiling faces (bespectabled lady with short hair, the efficient manager with the flat ivy cap, etc.). Not a fan of the current management. read more

My friends and I visited Deedee's on a weekend when they were serving the Rajsthani thali. Being a marvadi myself, I was expecting authentic Rajasthani food which wasn't the case. But having said that, the food in general was pretty good. Definitely reminded me of a simple, home cooked meal without being super oily or heavy on masalas. The buffet spread was nice on the whole - with a lot of hits and a few misses. The Bhel, Alu Matar and Mixed Vegetable were really good and I took second helpings for all of them. The Dal lacked a little salt and the Gatta Kadhi was a little sour. But the piping hot Chapatis and the delicious Shrikhand were the best part of the meal for me. The service was fine and the ambiance was very basic with just the bare necessities in place. Overall, complete value for money! read more

Very homely and heavy/greasy food that will remind you of your home made food. Try to make it as early as possible as they close by 9. That way you can eat more ;) for 12$ per person for weekend buffet, you get many dishes to try. Although many dishes are repeated over the weekend, you may miss variety if you are a regular here. You'd want to bring a lot Of appetite or plan your attack properly if you want to make the most. The weekend spread has appetizers - mostly bhel and pani puri and then the main dishes are dependent on which weekend you are there for, which is basically a dry veggie roast, a paneer gravy based dish, a dal, kadi, etc Roti and a speciality roti variant are served to your table hot and fresh from the pan. There's rice, pulav or khichdi based on the weekend again. Dessert is usually shrikhand. No, there are no beds or dorms to take a nap after you're done eating. Normally, I'm a guy that does not believe in conditional reviews. I believe in giving a fair, unbiased review of a restaurant and then for a customer to quickly check out how many stars (and affordable) the restaurant has in order to decide whether or not to go there, and only reading the actual reviews if they have time. However, both unfortunately and fortunately, DeeDee's is a restaurant where a) if you are not the right type of person or b) you don't know what to expect, you can potentially have a very bad experience. I will elaborate further with the two points mentioned: a) you are not the right type of person: This restaurant serves EXTREMELY authentic food from the regions of Maharashtra, Rajastan, and Gujurat; I hate to make this statement but if you are not from South Asia, or even India for that matter, and are not familiar with these regions, please note that the food from these regions has a very unique taste and flavor. DO NOT come here expecting the normal Punjabi dishes served at most Indian restaurants such as butter chicken, dal, tandoori chicken and just because it's vegetarian, do not come here expecting udipi food such as dosa, idlis, and sambar either. If you have never tasted food from the regions listed above, I would come here with a VERY open mind or at least some pre-research as people either love it or hate it and very rarely feel in between the two extremes. b) you don't know what to expect: In addition, don't come here expecting a five star dining experience. The atmosphere is very homely but nothing elaborate or over-the-top. The serving trays and utensils are very simple. The decor is also simple with pictures of restaurant customers lining the back wall. The cooks and servers will be dressed in very casual clothes running around refilling the food trays and handing out fresh rotis every 5 minutes. You truly feel like a guest in someone's house. To some people, this aspect may naturally seem like a 5 star experience and they can ignore this point, but to some people, a five star dining experience means fancy decor, good presentation of the plates and cutlery, and the waiters to be dressed proper, which is not the case at Dee Dee's. By following the two points above, you are most likely to have a very good experience at Dee Dee's. The actual food (which, again, you NEED to be familiar with before coming!), is absolutely delicious. It is probably the best Gujurati. Marathi, and Rajastani food that I have had outside of India, and as anyone knows, that is a bold statement. Definitely a go-to place if you are in the mood for this type of food! read more

Ok, I've finally given up on Deedee's. Done. Finito. Several more take out orders after my original review varied in both size and pricing; it seems that it just depends on what the person working feesl like doing. But the coup de grace was when I recently placed a large phone order to share with friends. The woman with glasses and a moustache gave me a total when I arrived for pick up. I paid it, and she put the money in the drawer and closed it. I asked for a receipt. This is where it all went wrong. She said "no receipt". I said, "right, and I need a receipt" (I was splitting this with friends, although it's besides the point). She proceeded to look at the tag and ring things up, one by one, and then gave me a total that was over $3 more. She put her hand out for me to give her more money. I asked her "you are charging me for a receipt? Seriously?" Without blinking she answered yes. She said the price was lower with no receipt, but now that I made her add it all up it was higher. I gave her the $3 and walked out, knowing that this would be the last visit here, ever. BTW, when we unpacked our food later we had the same problem with the random portion sizes, which is just ridiculous. Sorry Deedee's, I give up. read more

I have been going to Deedee's at least for 15+years. This is the only place to get as authentic a home cooked food as you can get in the Bay Area. The restaurant has changed couple owners, but seems like the people cooking have stayed on or the recipes have been documented and/or inherited well. Try their Srikhand or Bajra Roti or Kadhi. On my way to Deedee's I got lost as google maps indicated another location in Middlefield and it is an awkward triangular junction and I kept circling there trying to find Deedee's and wasted nearly half an hour of my time. When I got here, I was greeted by the lady managing the restaurant and she was very polite and friendly and quite apologetic about the location being mapped inaccurately. Deedee's serves 4 kinds of thalis every weekend, the weekend we were here was Father's day and they were serving Rajasthani Food. I didn't know the names of most of the food I ate, but for $12, I expected more. The food tastes like home cooked food but is nothing special. For $15, I would get a better buffet in a nicer restaurant like Sakoon with a lot more dishes. I loved the Shrikhand here and also the rotis that had a good amount of ghee, everything else was tasty but not exceptional. We were a bigger group and we sat outside with our friend's dog. The dog got quite some attention and it was kinda cumbersome to get to the buffet everytime we wanted a refill as the inner restaurant was packed with not enough room to maneuver between tables. I liked that the food was served in steel utensils like they do in India. I have to try their Gujarati buffet before I write them off but I will go here if its friends i have to meet or i am perfectly happy in my hood eating local. read more

Great vegetarian food. My wife and I went and even though we had no idea what we were eating we really enjoyed it. There was a spicy masala type dish that was really good. And it's all you can eat. So we are stuffed. Good stuff!! Only improvement I would suggest is a sign so those of us trying the food out know what's what. read more

I used to visit this place couple of times every month as I loved their home made food.I visited again after a couple of months and I was disappointed with the food. Nothing in the Buffet was actually worth eating. Everything was bland and tasteless. their Pani Puri used to be one of my favorites but this time it was so bad that I could not finish one puri. Parking is very tight but that is normal here. You might have to wait 15mins - 30 mins to get seated. With the exception of the two desserts, all but two choices on the buffet were vegan - and were absolutely delicious! I'd say this place's food was really good. The shrikhand was a1. The potato curry, undhiyu, and dal was similar to what we make at home. I know alot of gujus are used to paper thin rotis, but my clan makes them thick so these were what I expected as a roti. This is the best vegetarian Indian food I have ever had. I really enjoy the variations they do in their menu based on the seasons. Every single dish that I have had is always so well cooked and with its distinct flavor. Their pani puri is delicious, I miss this the most now that they don't have indoor dining.
